For the first time in my life , I am number one. Wow, I should buy a lottery ticket

May 3, 2019 @ 12:02 AM

Well, I was the one who said that it should be posted the night before. I have to leave at 8:45 for an appointment at 9:15. That's why it got posted. Well, great sports night. Sixers won. How wonderful to have the Sixers win. Hope they win the next two games, but my Bucks will beat them in the next round though. Remember Dear Cake. Bruins won as well. The Bruins are winning the cup. Remember that. Monday we have a special birthday. Monday is Bob Seger's birthday, the guy who should be the king because he is so awesome. Let's not forget to say happy birthday to Bob Seger on Monday, May 6.

It would have been interesting to see the Raptors with Jonas Valanciunas instead of Gasol in the playoffs. I didn't like that last trade at all. Valanciunas was playing with a lot more intensity this season and certainly has more intensity and skill than Gasol, in my opinion.

May 3, 2019 @ 7:49 AM

I think I am watching the least amount of hockey since the start of round 2 of the playoffs. I just have zero interest in any of the teams remaining.

I think it might be a Mama Martino's night.

James the Jeopardy champ is quite remarkable. Felt bad for the contestant earlier this week who had the record for the largest non-winning total in a game.

Noah Syndergaard had quite the game yesterday. Hit the HR in a 1-0 win! Only happened 9 other tinmes!

Me too... my A team (Leafs) are gone, my B team (Pens) are gone, and none of the matchups draw me in.

I've decided I'd like Joe Thornton to win a cup, but most of those games are too late for me. I can't stomach watching the Bruins... here's hoping for a Carolina vs. Sharks final.... yawn.

Now that Leafs are done, Jays are going south and Raptors seem mediocre at best, i'm rootin' for the North Toronto CI Jr Girls volleyball team. No i don't have a kid on the team. It's just a random school and a random team I'll now support. Hopefully I don't get arrested when I keep showing up alone at their matches.

@Rick - as an east-sider I don't get out to enough joints west of say Spadina, but I had lunch at Mama Martinos once and it was awesome. The decor and all was a little on the nose but the eats were on point. Then again I'm not Italian so maybe I don't know real Italian food. Having said that, I did the whole backpack across Europe thing after university, and I did eat McDonald's in Rome so there's that. I also wore a fanny pack that day. Yes I said it. Don't judge - it was 1991. I bring it up because some Gypsy kids tricked me in front of the Coliseum and stole 50 bucks from my fanny pack, but it was fine because the next day I went and bough some razor blades and put THEM in my fanny pack and returned to the same spot. Boy that was a good day.

Definitely disinterested in the rest of the playoffs hockey and BB
Last night was my last Raptors straw.

At least we know it wasn't actually LeBron that the Raps (aside from Kawhi) can't it's everyone. Nothing disappoints me more than a team that doesn't show up.

So I'm back to my Normal rooting Interest MOTOGP . Sadly not televised but so far interesting , Rossi second in the standings is very good News. And the Ducati's look to be the Bike to beat so far. A ducati Manufacturers Championship with a Rossi (Yamaha) Riders championship would be great although being a Suzuki rider myself I'd be great with a Zuk being on top too.

BTW I know motorsports gets a knock because "It's the car doing all the work" and that's fair but Motorcycle riders contribute much more to the pace of the machine than drivers do. In F1 it's MAYBE 80% Car /20% Driver (now too much driver aid shit on the cars and stupid Aero that makes passing hard without gimmicks) bikes in MOTOGP (F1 Equivalent) are much closer to 50/50 and they are only that because they too have more electronic crap.

Back in 2003 Rossi having won the championship with Honda 2 years in a row went to the Honda team and not unreasonably asked for a raise. They said FU it's the bike. So he went to Yamaha (who were 5th in 2003 ) and went out and won the championship the next two years in a row. No electronics then and it really was 30% Bike and 70% rider.

Ok if you read this far ( Doubtful but I'm hoping) go look on You tube for some MOTOGP or other Motorcycle racing ( World Superbike , British Superbike, Canadian Superbike are all pretty cool too) Or look for a Video called Faster( not the shitty action film) a documentary voiced by Ewan Mcgregor that follows MOTOGP over 2001-02. It has sequels as well all pretty epic.

I can understand the lack of interest in the NHL playoffs. All Canadian-based teams are gone, and its difficult to get interested in watching small market teams such as Columbus and Carolina.

The Toronto/Philadelphia NBA playoff series could have a profound effect on the future of the Raps. This is purely a guess, but I believe the only reason Kawhi Leonard will resign with Toronto is if he believes the team is a championship contender. So if the Raptors lose to the Sixers, I think he will sign elsewhere.

May 3, 2019 @ 11:32 AM

Its been awhile..

Hockey - Still suck the Leafs couldn't find it in them to Win game 4 and 6 (I think those were the winnable games). Very curious to see what they do in the off season with salary cap and having potentially 3 $11 million players on the roaster. I'm good to see Colorado or Sharks win the cup (would suck for Partrick Marleau but that is life) and I'm good with the Hurricane's winning it too.

Raps-I think they will bounce back in game 4, but I think who ever wins game 4 wins the series. Only way he stays if they make the final and even then I think he gonzo because I don't think money motivates Kawhi and he already got the championships, the only thing that keeps him here is how feels about how he was treated and respected here by the organization, which I think would be high. also a determining factor how home sick he is.

Happy Friday all and Peace

May 3, 2019 @ 1:28 PM

Really worried about the Raptors. Sunday is a must win.

Blind Dave

It snowed on the Prairies last weekend. Bloody hell. I was in shorts a few days previously.

I've been passively following hockey, which is what I usually do anyway, but with the Leafs and Vegas out, I looked at both NYI and Carolina, who are playing against each other. I suppose the good news is that one will win and move on. So why those two teams? I've always liked Curtis McElhinney and it's great to see he is getting lots of ice time as a "backup". The other goalie, NYI's Robin Lehner, deals with anxiety, panic, and depression. Been there in my own way for forever, since I was a child, and so I cheer for him.

@Blind Dave, I am currently working in Western Newfoundland, and Labrador. Tuesday drove through the worst snow storm in my 40 years of driving, up to St. Anthony, 2 foot snow drifts and white outs for 5 kms. Luckily had an AWD rental.
In Labrador today, there are still snowmobilers and ice fishing still happening, never seen it this late in the season, in the 10 years I have been heading this way.

From the Leafs 3rd or 4th string goalie in October to becoming the oldest first time playoff starter in NHL history and winning playoff games in May.

Good for McElhinney.

Well, my Bucks won last night. Great. They will win the championship. Everyone should come to my awesome NBA party. There will be a deer cake. My personal baker will bake the cake. Well, baseball was good except my Orioles lost again and boy did they ever lose. My Indians and Diamondbacks both won though and that's wonderful. Bruins will win tonight. They're winning the cup. Next year my Habs or Coyotes will win the cup. Bob Seger's birthday in two days. Nothing like the one and only Bob Seger. Oh, Sixers will win tomorrow. Yes they will.

I was on a great bike ride, and Milon from Fast Time Watch & Jewellery Repair just texted me with the Siakam news.

Imagine firing the coach, promoting an assistant, trading the star for an even better star and playing the long game only to go out in the second round of the NBA playoffs.

Here's hoping Kyle has a monster game and this isn't the end, because this was a one-season window.

@ Coll Dave Right now she doesn't even know Tampa is in the MLB. BUT if her trainer, baker, doorman or postie tells her about Tampa being in first then it will be added to her other 71 favorite teams.

Today is Bob Seger's birthday eve. Yes, tomorrow is Bob Seger's birthday. Everyone should wish Bob a happy birthday. He has such a beautiful voice. He is wonderful. How could anyone not like the one and only Bob Seger. He's awesome and tomorrow is his birthday.

In that CBC article about the Galleria mini-mall, the photographer says very similar things to what I said in this comment almost two years ago. Sometime in the last couple of years I walked through that part of it that had the old arcade video games, and recognized the images on a racing game as cars from the CART series at some point in 1990s, so presumably at least 20 years old.
I have no problem with crappy old little malls or shopping plazas being demolished and replaced new condo/retail complexes.

Some NIMBYs seem to be reflexively against anything being torn down and replaced. I'm not against keeping the odd older building around, but this is Toronto -- there is no Roman Colosseum or Pyramids of Giza. Just because some musty dingy little old firetrap building may be 100 years old does not make it 'historic'.

There are some buildings / structures in this city I think should be preserved. But... there are others that people fight to save and I wonder why.

A great example is Bloor West Village. I am of the opinion the old Runnymede Theatre should be preserved. The Humber Odeon, however, can be razed for condos.

The Galleria Mall is an amazing old relic but there's nothing historical about the structure that needs to be preserved. Casa Loma, however....

Well, Bruins and Bucks will win tonight. Today is Bob Seger's birthday. Why isn't anyone wishing him a happy birthday? It's Bob Seger's birthday and he's a great singer. He will live for a long time yet. Happy birthday Bob Seger. Please say it. He needs birthday wishes.

The Columbine shooting was 20 years ago. I was doing some reading about one of the two kids who was a sociopath. The other was a follower, but this sociopath wanted to bomb the school so everyone died. Sociopaths exist and they're scary as shit.

May 7, 2019 @ 2:53 PM

TM - when do sociopathic tendencies begin to surface, out of curiosity, i wonder. i definitely know kids can go from good to evil, just wonder when. i adore all babies but i know eventually some babies become really bad adults.

May 7, 2019 @ 3:21 PM

I have to make this comment after 3 weeks.
My former high school York Memorial CI (graduated in 1975) is virtually gone after the fire yesterday & worse today. A few of my friends who attended there with me emailed today as this part of the best 5 years of my life. We had grade 13 in 1975.
Such a loss after 90 years & was ready to attend to 90 ann. late May/Early June.

I was at the "largest margin of victory in Raptors postseason history" game and that record stood for only a few weeks.

@dale sorry for your loss. I'm on the fence on whether i'd be sad or glad if my HS burned/ was demo'd for Condos. Not the best part of my life.

While certainly not a royal hater i'm not 100% a fan either so my interest in royal babies is extremely limited. Not sure how the Sociopath discussion came up even after reading the posts but yes they are out there. And shit tons of people are very easily manipulated and are following them. Have a look at politics and i'm pretty sure you can see both.

Ok i'm tentatively back on the bandwagon. The Raps Certainly showed up last night. I'd be on it for sure if they put 75% of that effort into every game. We shall see Sunday which team shows up and if it's the team from last night I'll jump on with both feet. Maybe even buy some Merch.

That is some Matlock level shit by you, I was also wondering where bsmntdwllr73 was and you figured it out. I would never think to check the status of the Parkdale Library.

Royal babies that grow up never to work a day in their life.
Royal babies who grow up to have as many more royal babies because they dont have to worry about the cost & time of raising them
Royal babies who are matched with other royal babies at a later date to preserve the bloodline that is all so important to royal families.

Your Bucks are looking amazing, Cheryl, They are going to be a very tough match-up for the winner of the Sixers/Raptors series and look destined for the Finals.

A week long Bucks fan such as yourself should be very proud of your team. I know you have been waiting a long time for a season like this.

May 8, 2019 @ 10:22 PM

Yes, great Bucks win. So you're all coming to my party? It's the first Saturday after my Bucks win it all. They will. I hope it's Sixers and Bucks in the next round. My baker is going to bake a deer cake. That will be great. My Indians and Diamondbacks won, but my Orioles lost. My Jose finally hit a home run again. Boy, I love my Jose, but he's sure been slumping lately. I will probably be going out tomorrow morning, but it won't be until around 10:00, so I don't think you need to post the next open Mike tonight unless you are planning to be late with it tomorrow. I only noticed the Parkdale Library was closed when I looked at the TPL website because, not owning a printer, once or twice a year I want to print something at a library and you now have to load money onto your library card to do it.

I swear it was just a coincidence that I happened to mention old buildings being "firetraps". I am not an arsonist! It wasn't me!
But that certainly is a problem with many of them. Often they're made with a lot of old, dried out wood, and have dangerously old wiring and electrical systems.
I'm with those who wouldn't care if a school I went to was torn down.

I like what was done with that Runnymede Theatre (who would have thought a Shoppers DrugMart could be interesting?), but I don't care at all if The Revue Cinema on Roncesvalles is preserved or not. It's slightly interesting that it's 100 years old, but it's really just a crappy old movie theatre. A few years ago the marquee thing literally fell off the building and luckily no one happened to be under it on the sidewalk at the time.
I definitely prefer living and working in new buildings. If you had to go into a hospital, would you want to be sent to the musty old one that was 100 years old, or the new modern one?

May 9, 2019 @ 10:42 AM

James Edgar

@ H.O.E. yes many old buildings could be fire traps. Well many are due to owner neglect. New has its place but older well really older >75 years often have some style that's lacking in newer buildings.

That school should have been up to fire code , if it wasn't the board definitely has has some serious questions to answer. Even if , as has been implied it was arson.
