I am just saving this spot for Cheryl.

April 26, 2019 @ 7:40 AM

I'm not first. Oh well. Baseball was great last night. My Indians and Diamondbacks both won. My Orioles didn't play. Oh well, Bruins won as well. Now again here is what will happen in basketball. The Sixers and Bucks will win their rounds. Then the Bucks will beat the Sixers and then beat whoever is in the west for the championship. Remember my NBA party will be the first Saturday after my Bucks win it all. There will be a deer cake. I'll see you all there, but no smoking is allowed.

For the Raptors vs. Bucks conference final, I'm going to tweet "The Bucks stop here!".

Clever, eh?

About to listen to the episode about Gino.

Do you think anyone will listen to the episode about the Gino episode without hearing the Gino episode first?

April 26, 2019 @ 8:32 AM

Lyle Lanley

Love it so far. For those unsure about listening to an episode about an episode I highly recommend they do. But listen to the Gino Vanelli episode first.

Brian Gerstein (Raptors Devotee)

Time for my health update, having seen my dietician a couple of days ago. First let me recap from January 22nd when we first met and I weighed 188.6 pounds. My latest weight is 162.8 pounds, so I have lost 25.8 pounds in 3 months. Funny enough last time I saw her on February 5th at the time she was happy with my weight and told me to keep it between 170 and 175 pounds, which it was then. I went on to lose another 10 pounds and it just happened organically, it was not top of mind. The last few weeks with 2 trips to Montreal I have gotten away from the gym, but just renewed my membership for another month, and have gone the past 2 days.

I learned a valuable lesson, as my cardio was fine, did not suffer, but doing my free weights and using the machines did not go well, as I was unable to complete some reps. Muscles need constant work i.e. every second day for me, or they atrophy, so I have to use it or lose it. My weight even not going to the gym and travelling has finally bottomed out, so this is the weight going ahead for me, and I am very pleased with it, as my BMI is really healthy now.

I do plan more outdoor activities, mainly biking, but had to make a few changes based on my visit.

One was adding a daily Vitamin D 1,000 mg supplement, and I need more calcium, so will have a cup of yogurt and berries every morning. My report card is still A+ with her, and I need to maintain that till my next appointment in a month.

Last night watching both my daughters perform at their School, one for vocals and one for ballet, I ran into one of my daughter's friends, who had not seen me since prior to my weight loss. She remarked Wow, have you lost some weight, you look great! I did not do it to get that kind of reaction, I did it for myself, but at the same time, it reinforces how I am heading in the right direction.

Again, the key for me was that first dietician visit and accountability. If anybody wants to get started like I did, get a full medical check-up before commencing, and if you join a gym, make sure even if you do not sign up for any personal fitness classes, you get a chart to guide you, and update it when needed. Cardio, weights, and lots of stretching is key for me, but everybody is different, and your path to better health will no doubt be different than mine, but as Nike says "Just Do It", as it will improve your life in so many ways.

Just what the doctor ordered. More "POP" in the line-up. There are only 3-4 players carrying this team offensively, Jr should help with the load.

ESPN fires Adnan Virk earlier this year and then hires Nabil Karim, almost feels like ESPN didn't want to be accused of firing a minority face so they replaced him with a younger version of him.

Weird optics.

Happy birthday LeiveFamke. Hope it's good or was good. Well, the Sixers lost. They actually got clobbered. This sucks. Poor Sixers. Well, my Bucks will win today. Baseball sucked last night. My Indians, Orioles, and Diamondbacks all fricken lost. It sucks. My Indians lost in extra innings. Bruins also lost in double overtime. It was a bad night for sports. It totally flat out sucked. Well, remember Bucks are the NBA champions and there will be a deer cake. Everyone should come to my party, but you can't smoke.

April 28, 2019 @ 1:51 PM

Well, not a good day for me. My Bucks fricken lost. That is no good at all. They got clobbered. Why is everyone getting fricken clobbered. It's awful. My Bucks lost. That's no good. The Sixers better win tonight or are they just going to get clobbered like they did on Saturday? What's wrong with the Sixers and the Bucks? Well, my Orioles, Diamondbacks and Indians lost again. This really is no good. This is awful, so baseball sucked again. Everyone is sucking big time.

April 29, 2019 @ 6:58 AM

Just doing the scoring here....Ah the Black Widow sports picker went O for Sunday. Anyone else not surprised ?

When people talk about fare evasion on the TTC, it's always about streetcars and subway station entrances, never buses. While the "all-door" boarding and the way the street cars work seem to make them the easiest places for fare evaders, I think the turnstiles at the subway stations actually make them the most difficult. As I said in another comment in the last couple of weeks, on every TTC bus trip I take, at least once I'll hear the "rejected" noise from the Prestocard reader of someone with no money on their card boarding, and the driver just ignoring it, as they are apparently told to do. This isn't just idiotic teenagers or homeless drug addicts. Otherwise responsible-looking grown adults see it, and think "why should I pay if others don't?", and they realize the TTC buses are the opportunity to use their empty Prestocard as a perpetual 'ride-for-free' pass.

I just saw someone do this on a 900 Airport Express bus, where there isn't much chance for it because there are so few stops. A guy in a suit who looked to be about 60 got on the bus at the last stop before it turned into Kipling station (in front of the Starbucks, across the road from the Wendy's/Tim Hortons). Obviously, instead of just walking the short distance to the subway station entrance where he knew his empty Prestocard would not open the automated entrance, he easily got away with not paying on the bus.

April 29, 2019 @ 10:28 AM

A few months ago in one one of his comments here @bsmntdwllr73 mentioned a "long-promised RDJ hologram tour". I wasn't sure if he was just joking, but apparently not. I'm not sure what to make of this. My reaction is about one third thinking it's in bad taste, one third just laughing at the concept and how cartoonish and cheesey it looks, and one third 'why not?' and maybe I'd go see it if it wasn't too expensive. It's essentially Dio Disciples (I saw them at The Rockpile a few years back) with the hologram and recorded vocals added for much of the show.
Kerrang -- The Dio hologram is awful and needs to stop

April 29, 2019 @ 2:34 PM

Sorry, I obviously meant to type RJD (Ronnie James Dio) above!!

April 29, 2019 @ 2:50 PM

Well, the Sixers won. That was great. Good that they won. It will be Sixers in five or six. I know this. My Bucks need to win tonight. Come on Bucks. Don't get clobbered again. Baseball was only one game. My Orioles lost again. That's no good. Hockey tonight. Bruins will win. Bruins are winning the cup this year. I know this.

April 30, 2019 @ 6:53 AM

It's no secret that a decade-plus of ever-escalating-penury has largely resulted
in yours truly having somewhat-regrettably largely missed out on the peak cable
TV explosion. One show that I have absolutely no qualms about having missed out
on is "Game Of Thrones". That's not to say that I haven't I haven't relied on various
pervy search engines and the like to keep abreast(!) of the various nude scenes
featured in said show over its 'epic' history to date!! (Uneducated/uninformed best
guess from my obviously askew corner of the world is that the majority of this disrobing
occurred over the first two seasons- A real classic Bait &Switch, if you ask me!)

And while that foxy Dragon Queen portrayed by the luscious Emilia Clarke will always
rank number one in the Eternal Spank Bank of My Perverted Mind, I also have to give
some belated strong props to Maisie Williams and her debut Dropping of the Trou from
last week's episode: A nice plump rump and some decent side boob were lovingly on
display. And I'm just putting it out there, but she is also undoubtedly the unabashed
possessor of a tasty Unibrow impressive enough to make those oh-so-dashin-'n'-bashin'
Gallagher Brothers eternally jealous!!!

In all honesty, I'm really not much of a fan of the Dungeons and Dragons fantasy genre,
and so I ultimately prefer to limit my exposure to classic Dio, Manowar, and Molly Hatchet
album covers, as well as the tasty art of the now-sadly-deceased Frank Frazetta. To each
their own, I suppose. Now can somebody kindly pass me some Purell?!?

April 30, 2019 @ 7:40 PM

My Bucks won, goody. That's great. Baseball was great as well. My Indians and Diamondbacks both won. My Orioles got rained out. Oh well. Bruins didn't do so well though. They lost again. That was not a good game at all.

James Edgar

@bsmntdwllr73 ewww!

I didn't watch a single episode of GOT until last year. My wife decided she wanted to watch so i said sure .
As it was so hyped to be honest my expectations were low. And i was pleasantly surprised, yes the first couple of seasons were like a german softcore porn film( i stole that description but it fits if you are old enough to remember city tvs baby blue movies) but the story and more important many of the characters are pretty compelling.

I'm not a put down everything and stop life to watch and episode type but i really have enjoyed watching so far. I haven't watched the episode from Sunday yet which i hear is spectacular and i'm having trouble avoiding spoilers so may watch tonight.

The acting, writing and production are spectacular for the most part. If you get the chance watch it all , it really is worth the time.

May 1, 2019 @ 9:02 AM

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

@James Edgar

I actually bailed on the series in season 3, but I did watch Sunday's episode to see what all the fuss was about. Because I had those 3 seasons under my belt, I knew the vast majority of the characters and only had to look up a couple of people to catch up.

I'll probably watch the last three eps and see how they close this thing out.

May 1, 2019 @ 9:18 AM

@James Edgar
Slightly too young to remember the original run of Baby Blue Movies on CityTV, but their latter-
day incarnation fifteen to twenty years ago were a lonely single man's BFF on an otherwise
dull Friday night (sorry, for the anticipated additional gross-out, LOL!!!). And while I will take
your word for G.O.T.'s sustained-excellence, that particular genre is more than a little outside my
comfortable wheelhouse. Conan/Red Sonja and perhaps The Hobbit tend to be the extent of my sustained interest in the sword and sorcery/fantasy genre(s).

Additionally, the Billboard Music Awards are airing tonight. I understand the first and third words
I just typed, but not exactly certain that I'm fully copacetic with that middle word being used in
that particular context. 21 abominations(!!) for my favourite recurring whipping girl pretty much
says all that there is to say about this subject. Guess it's a good thing that CTV2 is simulcasting
this sure-to-be-dreckfest instead of my beloved sole antenna channel lifelineCTV.

May 1, 2019 @ 9:36 AM

Oh, and the recurring whipping girl I somehow neglected to mention above is obviously Cardi B!

May 1, 2019 @ 9:38 AM

After three years of allowing non-airport passengers to use the UP Express train as if it was a GO Train between Union Station, Bloor, and Weston, the green GO presto devices at the entrances to the UP Express platforms at those stations have now been covered up. It will cost you the extra $5.30 per trip to use UP Express between Union Station and Bloor. Previously, if this was part of a GO Transit trip you continued to somewhere outside the city (to Markham, Oakville, etc.), the part of it between Union and Bloor would work out to be free, as GO counts Union Station and Bloor to be in the same fare zone. While slightly better than it was several years ago, GO service on this line is still almost entirely limited to weekday rush hour trains.

I doubt I will ever use the UP Express train again. I don't fly, and using the TTC 900 Express bus to connect to the Brampton and Mississauga bus routes at Pearson, or the subway to get downtown, is almost as quick and now always significantly cheaper.

May 1, 2019 @ 3:06 PM

Just came back from cycling the Finch Hydro corridor. Wanted to go to Food Basics to buy some Gatorade, but low & behold it wasn't there. In fact the whole mall is gone. Officially the Newtonbrook Plaza at Yonge/Cummer has been demolished, even that office tower to the south.

Cannot believe what is going on in this city. The Developers are taking over. They are ruining the landscape with these mega Condo towers. Oh yeah, this is going to be a big one. 5 massive buildings with 35 floors average, 1600+ units. There is no stopping this bullshit.

Just like the Honest Ed site, these condos destroy the neighbourhood. No more Ma & Pa, its big time conglomerates. They will build, you will come.

Lake Ontario was spoiled by the wave of the Condo Wall, now Yonge Street will be the Condo Corridor in the near future.

I have an appointment tomorrow morning at 9:15. I have to leave around 8:45 to allow enough time to get there. Probably a good idea to post the Open Mike tonight instead. Sorry for the short notice. It just came up. Well, either post it tonight. If you post it tomorrow, there could be a chance I won't be on until later. Well, my Orioles won the first game and lost the second. My Diamondbacks also won. My Indians lost though and Corey Kluber broke his arm which is not good at all. Oh well. The Bruins and the Sixers will win tonight. Yes, they will do that.

So I briefly named-checked southern One Hit Wonder rockers Molly Hatchet on here the other day.
Well, aside from the original line-ups of The Ramones (all long dead) and Lynyrd Skynyrd (one
current member dates back to their earliest days), Molly Hatchet now has absolutely no original
members left in its line-up. Just last week, their third lead singer, Phil McCormack passed away at
the age of 58, His two predecessors are also no longer with us, and perhaps barring one of their
original guitarists. every other original member is deceased, and many other key succcessive personnel have also gone on to that great southern rock graveyard in the sky. "Flirting With Disaster" (their most well-known slab of Southern Rock Boogie), indeed!!
