Happy Friday All :)

New job is going great. Lots of driving (2000km this past week!) Picking my youngest up today, she's been in France this past week on a school trip. Had fun but is completely sick of her classmates at this point :)

March 15, 2019 @ 7:49 AM

Well, what a night. My Cavs lost. Why couldn't they play like they did on Monday. My Habs lost as well. At least my Coyotes won. Anyway, I don't know why my Habs had to lose. My Orioles lost. My Indians and Diamondbacks both won though so that was good. Hopefully my Suns will win tonight, but who knows. I'm first, so goody. It's about time I was first.

Terrestrial radio?
Satellite radio?

And speaking of daughters.... a very happy birthday to my youngest who turns three today!

Although I'll probably post an entry about that in a bit...

March 15, 2019 @ 8:04 AM

Mike, right now I switch between Terrestrial radio, Your podcast, Jeff Wood's audio book and my MP3's

Happy birthday to your youngest ! I miss mine at that age (sometimes)

March 15, 2019 @ 8:07 AM

Driving back from Ottawa I played a couple of your podcasts for Mrs. Beatts and she enjoyed them. (She married me so her taste is questionable at best)

March 15, 2019 @ 8:10 AM

I am still in shock over Lori Loughlin. We really enjoy watching the cheesy Garage Sale Mysteries. I wonder if she will play herself in the made-for-TV that will no doubt come out.

My Penguins won last night. Impressive 5-0 win too!

I don't buy the Rag it story. NHL still has a lot of work to do in this area.

March 15, 2019 @ 8:15 AM

Beatts - glad everything is going well!! I can imagine a week in France to be exactly as you described it if I had gone around that age/time also, haha

Happy birthday to Mike's youngest!!

Rick - I am kinda shocked, but honestly I really don't feel badly for her? Or any of them tbh. Maybe just the kids. And now she's thrown her whole career away for kids who did not even want to go to college ... LOL. Could've just sent them anywhere and I am sure her daughter would still have been able to party etc. SMH.

March 15, 2019 @ 8:46 AM

L. Loughlin's daughters are certainly quite attractive, although at this point perhaps it would have been much more prudent if they had initially studied a lot more and social influenced a whole lot less.
Just sayin'. P.S., has Stamos weighed in on this yet, 'cause Fuller House is goin' into its final
season. Heaven forbid good ol' Aunt Becky takes a premature televised dirt nap. HOW RUDE!!!

March 15, 2019 @ 9:16 AM

So here's a somewhat straight-forward suggestion regarding those several comments posted yesterday about that highly controversial crosswalk/intersection clock issue: Perhaps, then, it is time to initiate a musical reminder of sorts in order to keep pedestrians on the proverbial straight and narrow: For example, such utilize such catchy ditties as Prince's "Walk Don't Walk", Pantera's "Walk",
Aerosmith's "Walk This Way" and most obviously, Malcolm Burn's lost nugget from 1988 "Walk Don't
Run". Oh, and one more: Dire Strait's "Walk Of Life. Stay alive, people!!

Happy friday all , Happy Birthday Morgan!

Confession time.
Since i've been living on my own i got back into videos games a bit. I played all my old games (Half-Life, Half life 2 , return to castle wolfenstein etc) and went looking for a newer game on Steam ( Need to have it to play half life ).
Steam hasa game called World of tanks Blitz for PC. WOT Blitz was originally a phone game and in fact i had it on my phone for a bit a few years ago. I like the idea of a tank game due to being trained as an Armoured Crewman in the army reserves in the 1980's but on the phone it was not fun. I couldn't control the tanks . But on PC of course i can use the keyboard. So I downloaded it and started playing.
It was fun .
Then i realized that there was a World of Tanks game
Same thing only far more complicated and as a result more interesting and more difficult. Kind of the difference between an arcade game and a simulation.
Both are online games where you compete against other live players. there are rumours of bots but i don't think there are any.
So my confession is that i'm addicted. So much so that i forgot my laundry in the washing machine for two days this week.
It's a "freemium" play model so it's free to play but there are opportunities to buy Premium Tanks and accessories.
So far I haven't bought anything but i will at some point. Only because I'm old and think that i should pay for things.
I never thought I'd play an online game like this and love it like i do. There are Assholes galore just as I expected but so far they haven't pushed me over the edge.
One thing the graphics are far more complicated on WOT, i can play blitz at the highest settings but WOT is on low on my PC ( All in one Intel Graphics ;( ) . So far i've resisted the urge to buy an upgraded system hopefully I can stick to that.
so if you are wondering where I am I'm probably in a dark room trying to blow up tanks.

P.S. If games are your thing at all there are of course a million youtube videos about them, my favourite videos are by a guy named Claus a fellow canuck who does what i find to be very funny commentary .

March 15, 2019 @ 9:32 AM

James Edgar

I forgot to weigh in on the pay to play college scandal. First i'm totally not surprised. Not One bit. Anyone who is really needs to wake up.

Second it certainly devalues those universities degrees. Hopefully at some point all schools involved in this scam will be named and we can all re-evaluate the value of those degrees.
Not that i think a degree is a bad thing. I don't ,not going to university is a huge missing in my life. And if i had gone it would have been a huge fail.
But many are locked out of jobs because they don't have that piece of paper as it's the first and often the most critical criteria.
Also the perception that you HAVE to have a degree certainly exists. So parents do anything to get there kids into school whether it's bribery/Fraud or getting second mortgages to pay for it.

Of course in this case it's the wealthy making sure that they stay on the top. And that's certainly no surprise.

March 15, 2019 @ 9:44 AM

James I totally understand your gaming addiction. I was addicted hardcore to Call of Duty for YEARS... When I wasn't playing it, I watched tips and tricks videos to improve. I still enjoy playing it, but can go periods of time where I don't miss it.

Starting April 1, there's an opportunity for an organization to sponsor Toronto Mike'd. It's actually been a while since there was an opening, so I'd love to talk to anyone with a product and/or service to promote.

March 15, 2019 @ 10:43 AM

Apparently L. Loughlin has now also been released from all "Fuller House" obligations as well. And while I don't agree at all with what she and her cohorts allegedly did, in the grand, overall scheme of things, it ultimately pales in relation to the sad fact that Drumpf is still president after his (ALLEGED!!!) far greater crimes. #Perspective!!!

March 15, 2019 @ 11:55 AM

I have a self-imposed cap.

March 15, 2019 @ 1:32 PM

So I recently finished a less-than-nutritious, coupon-friendly lunch at a library-
adjacent A&W location. Saw a dude order a couple of those fairly new "BEYOND
BEEF" burgers (great name for a new Sapphic-related sub-category on Pornhub or
SpankBang, no?), and it kinda got me to thinking about the following: I wonder if anyone
ever decides to add some bacon to that supposedly healthy 'n' tasty treat? (But none for
me, thanks!!) I'm sure that it has probably happened at some point, but we have certainly
come a long way from those halcyon days of good old Clara starring in Wendy's infamous
" Where's The Beef?" commercials. Fun fact: Clara Peller was actually Jewish, so I wonder
if she observed Jewish dietary restrictions and abstained from actually tasting the product?!?

On a related-matter, I've previously posted a handful of times about my 'slight' obsession
with the music played in fast food joints. Pains me to type this, but I gotta give an epic
fail to that A&W location at the corner of Dufferin and Bloor, as its satellite radio playlist
during my lunch absolutely stunk: "Youngblood" by 5 Seconds Of Summer (had to Google
that one, natch!), a non-descript R&B mid-tempo number by an unknown-to-me female
singer, and most perversely of all, "Everyday" by Bon Jovi!! In the future I should probably
try to stick to the handful of cheap burger joints notorious (at least to me!) known for having
more agreeable tuneage on offer.

By that account, I guess the Burger King location situated slightly above Yonge and
Shuter (Eaton Centre area) would handily fit that heady bill, what with its awesome '80s vibe:
usually the '80s satellite channel hosted by various original MTV VJs. Sadly, my 'home'
BK location near King and Dufferin is still loudly blastin' out the kind of (current) tuneless
crap that instantly makes me remember why I was never actually a teenager in the
first place! Gee, I sure do miss that all-too-brief period in which (for inexplicable reasons) they
were thoughtfully featuring a hard rock/heavy metal station. Prime RJ Dio and a down-
payment on a cataclysmic cardiac event simply could not be beat!!!

March 15, 2019 @ 1:34 PM

Hi Mike,

Long time listener, but rarely do I comment.

If you have an open spot for a sponsor on April 1 you could sponsor yourself. Toronto Mike'd brought to you by TMDS.

Just an idea. Keep up the #realtalk.

March 15, 2019 @ 1:48 PM

Any scoop on what happened to Darrin and Colleen on Fresh FM in Hamilton?

March 15, 2019 @ 2:13 PM

@bsmntdwllr73 -- I've noticed a disturbing trend at many of those fast food chains over the last few months that's definitely cut back on my desire to be a customer (and, yes, I realize that may not necessarily be a bad thing healthwise). They're actively discouraging people like me who would always buy one cheaper item and nothing else. At the very least, the TV screens that used to be the menu boards now display nothing but the "combos" (or "meal deals", platters, or whatever term they use) that almost invariably total about $10 or very close to it once the HST is added. Some may still allow you to buy the undisplayed individual item if you ask them, but they will make you wait longer or otherwise make it as inconvenient as possible (and expensive as in recently almost doubling the prices for these), while some outlets (even of the same chain) will just outright tell you 'no' when you ask if it's possible to buy the item by itself.

Poor Colleen Rusholme... I really like her. Her show on Fresh FM in Hamilton with Darrin was axed yesterday. The replacement show debuts Monday, I believe. I suspect it will be syndicated programming, but we'll see... Feels like a pure cost cutting move.

That's actually a pretty smart idea. Thanks!

March 15, 2019 @ 2:52 PM

Glad to see that I'm not the only 'healthy-eater'(!) who notices this quite disturbing trend!
The food court locations of KFC are infamous for either not offering or not explicitly (not
used to using that word when it doesn't apply to adult content, LOL!) letting it be known
that those misleadingly-titled $5 Fill up meals are available. Moreover, the crappy cookie
always literally crumbles before you get the chance to eat it (at one point they were supplied
by Mrs. Fields, but now it is some no-name piece of crap, presumably to cut costs). Ah, the
glory days of the early Aughts, when Mickey D's had their splendid waistband-stretching
sandwich du jour offers, 'cept for the infernal Filet-O-Fish monstrosity. Ye olde 'dwllr73
doesn't have much use for seafood, barring my beloved deep fried shrimp. Cankles and
B-cup sproutin' man-boobs be damned!!

Recently, Newstalk 1010 has been doing a fair bit of promotion for listening to the station with Alexa. "Listen to Newstalk 1010 on your Amazon Echo device. Simply say 'Alexa, play Newstalk 1010' ". That was s the basic wording of the promo.

For about the last week, they've dropped the reference to Amazin Echo, and are only saying smart speaker. They've dropped the "Alexa, play....." altogether.

Any ideas about why this has changed? Has Google ponied up some cash to get them to change the wording to a more generic smart speaker so that they are not getting out-promoted?

Or would it be something more simple about the change? Maybe the station has been fielding angry calls because the command "Alexa, play...." is basically trolling & activating any Echo devices that might be within earshot of a radio tuner to Newstalk 1010?

Kinda weird question, I know, just makes me wonder sometimes when small details like this suddenly change. Thanks in advance in anyone has any insight.

March 15, 2019 @ 11:41 PM

Okay. How do comments get on here, but when I got on to comment, they weren't here, so it looked like I was first. My Suns blew it last night. That's no good. My Habs and Coyotes as well as my Cavs, Nets, and Suns better win tonight. Baseball sucked yesterday. My Indians, Orioles, and Diamondbacks all lost. Anyway, I got up this morning and my internet was down. That's no good. I called Rogers and they were going to send someone to come, but then my neighbour came and fixed it. He rebooted my modem so that's what he did. Anyway, I don't know what happened. I could have just stuck with Primus, but Rogers is a few dollars cheaper because my building has a contract with them. I know I said lots of good things about Primus in the past though and bad things about Rogers. Rogers has been down a few times. Primus was hardly ever down though, but I'm saving a few dollars.

March 16, 2019 @ 8:29 AM

I don't know what happened for certain with the "Alexa, play NewsTalk 1010" thing, but I would guess it was something they were being paid to do by Amazon, and if they stopped or replaced it with a generic mention of smart-speakers, it would be because that sponsorship has now expired, rather than someone else paying them to stop doing it.

Thankfully our family lives on the South Hill of Bolton (part of Caledon) with no water damage from the flooding so far. MANY homes & businesses are affected & people having to evacuate.
Was out this morning & grocery stores & others are donating food, lodging & other needs.

I have 4 computers running Win7 Professional, and over the past 2 or 3 weeks there have been a number of updates Microsoft has made to this OS, and now they all run like slugs! if the computers have been not used for a couple of hours, they can take several minutes to open a page that I use to have instantly, or opening a spread sheet.
I almost think it is a conspiracy to get you to purchase a new PC with WIN 10, which I just loathe, with it's WIN8 type tabletty interface.
I just wish the applications we used could run under an Apple OS. My kids never complain about their Mac's.
@Twins , was it flooding down in the valley by King street, of the old town of Bolton?

In 4 games this week the Leafs have played all teams much lower than them in standings & in each game have given up more than 5 games in each game & only won 1.
Problem IMO is coaching & can see Dubus canning Babs for lackluster efforts of late.
Got to maintain consistency throughout the season & not dry up with crap teams losing 4 of 5 by MANY goals. 10 games left to get their act in order but I don't see any kind of change.
No direction from coaches to players & players see it.

March 16, 2019 @ 11:03 PM

Well, my Habs lost again. That's no good at all that they lost, but they did. They got shut out. My Coyotes lost as well. Hockey sucked last night for me as well. My Cavs and Nets both lost. That's no good at all. My Suns won though by a couple points. My Nets need to clinch a playoff spot, but they haven't yet. Come on Nets. In baseball my Orioles and Indians won, but my Diamondbacks really got clobbered. That's no good. Oh well, they'll all win today I hope.

March 17, 2019 @ 7:33 AM

@H.o.E. Thanks, you're probably right. The simplest explanations are most often the correct ones.

@Rick C in Oakville Windows 10 is alright. I find the main visual difference from 7 is that the design of the start menu has changed.

I've heard plenty of people tout Windows 10 as spyware with all of the metrics that report back to MS, but truth be told, MS has backported all of these metric features to Windows 7, so even that OS is reporting in.

Any chance Linux would be an option for you? WINE is getting better and better, and is able to run more programs than before, if there's specific applications tying you to a MS environment.

If anyone doesn't have anything to do Monday, March 18, there is an event called the OHL Cup. Its the best players from AAA Midget.

The finals is DonMills Flyers vs Toronto Red Wings. This Don Mills team is unlike any team you will ever see. They are stacked with future OHL/NHL players, including this 15 yr old named Shane Wright who was granted Exceptional Status for the 2019 OHL draft. Only 4 other players were granted this, they were Tavares & McDavid.

There's also a D named Schmidt. He is 6'5 210. ???? This team is unbelievable. This team will be talked about for a long time.

Game time Mar. 18 7pm Mattamy Centre, old Maple Leaf Gardens. Admission FREE.

Brian Gerstein (Raptors Devotee)

January 22nd, 2019 will very likely be the turning point in my life from a health standpoint, when I had my first meeting with a dietician. We are coming up on 2 months this Friday since then and the changes I have made and seen have been life changing. I estimate that I have lost 16.6 pounds since then, now down to 172 pounds, and on my own home scale it measures 168 pounds, which I found out is about 4 pounds off reality. I have had that scale since I moved here over 20 years ago into my home, and I can say with absolute certainty that I have never been below 170 pounds in that time period. I weigh less now than in my early to mid 30's, can also say with complete certainty that I am in better shape from a cardio and for sure a muscle tone aspect as well.

I have made in summary the following changes at 54 years old, and I implore anybody reading this that it is not only possible to do, but fun and easy to once you see the results start to take place.

1. Cut out my 3 or 4 bags of salty snacks
2. No fruit initially, now only blackberries, strawberries, and blueberries
3. Lots and lots of vegetables
4. No snacking between meals except for vegetables
5. Only eat when hungry
6. Drink lots of water
7. Eat more fibre, as much as you can
8. Joined a gym, go daily, do cardio and use the weight and toning machines
9. Joined two weekly Vaughan classes, one for toning, one for abs
10. Make sure I get enough sleep, strive for 8 hours, but no less than 7 hours.

At this point shedding more pounds will be very difficult, and I can see how I have settled in at my current weight, which is fine. I am looking to work my core and upper body more, may get a personal trainer for some additional advice, and make sure I have enough muscle mass.

My real age will be 55 in September, but feel like I am in my early 30's, and my hip issues are a minor impediment now when they were a major concern a mere 2 months ago.

I am so looking forward to the nicer weather to do walks in the trails near me and go biking. My softball where I was literally having trouble pivoting and turning to go after fly balls, sometimes even falling down due to my core being so weak, is a thing of the past. I can't wait to go after fly balls and run the bases. Even my ability to put socks on and tie my shoelaces with my hips is better, though will always be a limitation I will accept somewhat.

I am going tomorrow for a consult for orthotics so I can properly cushion better the impact I make walking and running. I can't wait, as I keep adding pieces one at a time to reach my ultimate goal, which is being the best I can be at my age and in the years ahead.

Congrats to both Splash 'N Boots and Voivod on their much-deserved Juno wins! At the same time,
kinda surprised to read in Sid _ V's comment above that his uncle had an early Voivod album on
the blessed 8-Track format back in the day. Most impressive!! Never realized that much-maligned
format made that late into the eighties! Very underrated band, and I especially appreciate their
three albums on Mechanic/MCA Records in the late '80s, early '90s. A couple of great Pink Floyd
cover versions on those platters, and the late Piggy (Denis D'Amour)was a highly eccentric/versatile
guitarist. Well-worth checking out for by curious, open-minded fans of progressively heavy music.

@Brian Gerstein (Raptors Devotee)
Congratulations on achieving and maintaining your health/weight goals to date! Sadly, I lack
both the will power and the drive to follow along a similar path. While I've never drank, smoked or taken any recreational drugs, a rather questionable diet has always been my one major vice, if you can even call it that. More likely a very poor lifestyle choice on my part...

March 17, 2019 @ 2:31 PM

My Nets blew it. They couldn't close the game out. That sucked. My Nets couldn't win. They better pick things up or they'll be out of the race. Baseball was good. My Indians and Diamondbacks both won. My Orioles lost. At least my Indians and Diamondbacks won. Tonight I have my Cavs, Suns and Coyotes. Hopefully they will all win. I need wins.

March 18, 2019 @ 6:57 AM

Later this week Netflix will finally start streaming the long-gestating Motley Crue biopic "The
Dirt". The group got back together with Bob Rock to record a handful of new tracks for the
inevitable accompanying soundtrack album. One such trainwreck of a track is their beyond
pointless cover of "Like A Virgin"(!). Previous covers and parodies of said track by the likes of "Weird Al", Lords of the New Church and Teenage Fanclub are essentially the musical equivalent of the
Rosetta Stone by comparison! Moreover, the horrific state of Vince Neil's vocal cords at this point
(which even B. Rock's skilled production acumen is ultimately unable to fix) are perhaps even
more dreadful than the current scorched-earth 'vocalizing' of such frauds like Paul Stanley and
DL Roth!!

March 18, 2019 @ 12:03 PM

Also, a couple of days ago, more discerning M. Crue fans were probably secretly celebrating the
25th anniversary of their self-titled, one and only album with John Corabi. Fantastic, mature
piece of work and the initial single from it, "Hooligan's Holiday", is still one hell of an under-the-radar,
kick-ass track!

Just wondering how many people commenting to TO Mike gets scam calls.
I just received 2 in last hr., 1 from CRA & other from Microsoft. As soon as I saw the phone #'s I knew they were not legit but answered anyway. The CRA guy could hardly speak English & said his name was Peter Miller & I told him I'm Mario Lemieux working for the RCMP. He sure hung up quick.
Next was a Microsoft IT? caller saying my computer is hacked. I told him I don't have a home computer only a work one. He said its hacked. I called him a scammer & then called me back 2 minutes later. He told me to FOff & again said computer is hacked & hung up.
WHY WHY WHY people getting scammed out of many $ believing this BS. It has to stop somehow.

My Cavs won. At least they're getting ready for next year. They will be better next year. My Suns lost though. That's no good about my Suns. My Coyotes lost as well. In baseball, my Orioles had a great game as they won, but my Indians lost. My Diamondbacks didn't play. My Habs are at the cryer Flyers tonight. Habs will win. My Nets better win tonight as well. I don't know why they keep losing. Keep that up and they're out of the race, but I hope not get out of the playoff race.

day. Amateur tip: Don't go lookin' for financial 'validation/valuation' from/through your teams.
'cause it usually only ends up in heartbreak, tears, and worst case scenario, broken knee
caps, when you can't pay the proverbial devil (i.e. your bookie, etc.), their devilish due!!

On a completely unrelated note, what the hell is the deal with Jann Arden's new CTV
sitcom "Jann"? Sure, she is quite funny during talk show and award ceremony appearances, but does she have incriminating photos/videos of Bell Media executives with (alleged!) goats or something? Long time since her last even small-sized hit, just sayin'. I Would much prefer a Sarah McLachlan "Red Shoes Diaries" type reboot at this point. She sure was lookin' tight 'n; toned at the Junos the other night..

Just stumbled across a new tune, anyone caught the Headstones cover of the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald? Love the original and I've gotta say Hugh and the boys did it justice.

@Dale, I get the Chinese CRA calls, as verified by my Mandarin speaking boss. This is probably where they will make some gains.
I get the Linked in Hacked emails of about 10 years ago, extorting me for video they say I have viewed (and they have recorded from a PC without any video), using a password I haven't used in 6 or 7 years. Good luck if they have me watching construction equipment fail videos.
On another note, looks like the Federal Government is adding to the heap of debt my great grand children are going to have to pay back. Worried when all the governments of the world run out of borrowed cash to extend this financial charade.

My Habs won. Great game for my Habs. Well, that's wonderful. The Price is right. My Nets also won as well so that's a great thing. My Cavs will win tonight. My Indians won, but my Diamondbacks lost. My Orioles got rained out so they didn't play. A week from tomorrow and regular baseball season starts. There will be a World Series party. Either my Indians, Orioles, or Diamondbacks will win it. That will be great, but there is my hockey party and basketball party coming up. They may be close together though. Hockey will be Habs or Coyotes and basketball will be my Nets. They will be in the playoffs and surprise everyone I know it.

The city alleges the purpose of the pedestrian countdown clocks is "to assist pedestrians in crossing the street... provides a numeric countdown display that indicates the number of seconds remaining for a pedestrian to complete his/her crossing of a street."
Let me get this straight. Someone who has seen a "walk" signal, then started walking and is now already in the middle of the street, is allegedly somehow helped by this? How? Is it really a common occurrence that people get halfway across the street and then inexplicably slow down or stop for no reason, until they see a countdown clock to remind them "Hurry up, you dolt".

And how useful are these countdown clocks if instructions have to be posted that people have to read (not to mention the instructional video on the website) to do something as simple as cross the street? Isn't the whole idea of signs to be as simple and instinctively understood?
Just change it to make sense and be what it always should have been. Start the countdown for how much time is left in the "walk" signal (instead of nonsensically for the "don't walk"), as can be seen in Oshawa.

I think REAL sports Baseball fans would know that the regular season started TODAY.Oakland vs Seattle.I guess when you only focus on 3 teams It really does not matter.

Still no announcement about any shows at the new Niagara Falls 5000-seat theatre that is supposed to be open at the start of July when Mohegan Gaming takes over as operator of Fallsview.
There's shows scheduled at the existing 1500-seat venue through June, though apparently they've indicated it will continue to be used beyond then.

March 20, 2019 @ 10:49 AM

H.o.E. - people will still cross with 10 seconds to go, regardless of how the sign is actually set up.

Instructions are placed there, but people will be ignorant if it suits them. Everyone needs to pay more attention in general - but especially drivers.

March 20, 2019 @ 11:48 AM

In my experience crossing Don Mills Rd. everyday ( 6 lanes) the clocks are nothing more than excuse for drivers to increase their acceleration and test their ability to make the yellow light. It is unbelievable how many people bomb through red lights now, just ignoring the 3-2-1 countdown on the clock. Ive almost been hit twice here at Don Mills and Barber Greene and people have been killed here. Just once id like to see a police unit here.

More accurately describing what I've seen in Oshawa a couple of times, the countdown starts when the Walk signal appears, then the Walk is replaced by the flashing hand (Don't Walk) as the countdown gets to 5, and then stay solid (not flashing) after zero when the countdown disappears. This seems about right and I think works as intended. Those who can only move slowly (elderly people using walkers, etc.) would likely also know not to start when there isn't enough time left (if they know it takes them much longer than 5 seconds).
Sure, there's always some pedestrians who are going to ignore the lights, but this seems much better than the inexplicable set-up here now that invites us to instinctively run across the street when we're not supposed to.

March 20, 2019 @ 1:33 PM

The problem is not the flashing signal at intersections, It's the problem with most people too concentrated on their Tech Shit when crossing the street & not watching where they are going.
Cell phones & I pods are the reason.

March 20, 2019 @ 3:55 PM

To me, I do my best to cross only when the white guy is on. Once it starts counting down, I try not to get into the intersection. But the ones in Oshawa aren't a bad idea - I just don't know if it'll change people's habits.

wade - omg that is horrible. honestly, if people are still crossing no driver should be rushing them, insane. and drivers DO need to pay more attention. But I have seen some pedestrians cross when they really should not. I had a woman cross the road as I was turning with right of way, when the countdown had started - pushing a stroller. And I had someone cross just to catch a bus, when the signal was not in their favor smh.
andrew - I am so guilty of this - you are spot on too.

Seems to be some dissention between Babs & Leaf Mgt. Babcock made a comment earlier that kind of threw Mgt. under the bus. He is not a fan of the Muzzin trade so far.

Someone wrote or said quote "If I have to make the dinner at least I should have a choice of which groceries to buy".
1st round out in 3 games (mercy rule with the 4th) & Babs will be gone.

I could see Babcock getting canned if the Leafs go out in the first round, but I'm not waving the white flag just yet...

At least we're not Sabres fans.

#1 pick, 2 #2 picks, 3 #8 picks and not even a playoff berth to show for it.

Appreciate the Leafs for getting the rebuild right, it could be so much worse.

March 20, 2019 @ 11:48 PM

Well, my Cavs did win. Too bad they won't make the playoffs. They're playing well now. In baseball, my Indians played split squad games and won one and lost the other. My Orioles lost, but my Diamondbacks won. I mean the rest of the baseball season has to start. I don't know why a couple teams started early. My Habs or Coyotes won't be gone in the first round. They will be in the finals. Well, my Habs and Coyotes will win tonight as well as my Suns. Remember the Price is right.

March 21, 2019 @ 6:54 AM

The reason 2 MLB teams started early is simple .MLB found out that many of the players and training staff on those 2 teams have a lot of appointments the last week of the season like doctor, dentist, eye exam, cable guy, mechanic appointments. So, again very simple they started the season a week early for those 2 teams so they would not have to cancel any appointments. But to do that MLB sent them to Japan and made them play games at 5 AM.

March 21, 2019 @ 8:00 AM

i haven't lost hope in Babcock yet - even if we are out in the first round. It's a long term plan, which is hard to endure, but he needs another year (or more).
Of course I always wear my rose coloured glasses when viewing the leafs situation! Go Team!

is Nick Nurse getting canned unless we make it to the final round????

Are lower case "jj" and upper case "JJ" different people?

March 21, 2019 @ 5:19 PM

I love Basketball especially March Madness.
Question is what courses in college or a University do these players take?
Learning to spell, do arithmetic, basket weaving?
There is a player in NFL that graduated with a medical degree from McGill starting as 1 of only the 1 starter players.

So confusing.

I'm as confused as I was when I found out Brian Gerstein is in his mid-50s. I honestly thought he was in his late 30s or early 40s. No idea what kind of black magic is involved in looking that good in your 50s.

I was confused the first time I saw a comment from JJ too, because jj is a long-time regular.

At least the cases are different! This could be so much more confusing...
