I feel blessed.

Thank you Mike for sending me a direct link to this Open Mike. Makes it much easier to find it. You should start emailing everyone links to make it easier on them also.

Happy Friday!!

February 8, 2019 @ 7:51 AM

Rick

You got the link sent to you as well???!!! And here I thought I was the only special one. Phooey!

February 8, 2019 @ 8:02 AM

Cheryl

I didn't get the link sent to me. I don't know why it hides. Well, my Habs won another one. I think it will be Habs winning the cup. My Coyotes lost another one and that sucks. Oh well, it's a basketball night tonight. I have my Cavs, Nets, and Suns. Remember the Nets are the champions this year because my Cavs and Suns are so bad. Oh well, baseball spring training games start on February 23. Oh well, this year we will have a Chief Wahoo cake. Look for it.

February 8, 2019 @ 8:10 AM

LieveFamke

Finally back to work on Monday! (although it's modified hours for two weeks)

Looking forward to the Chief Wahoo cake party! (it's pants-less, right Beatts?)

February 8, 2019 @ 8:39 AM

Beatts

I say if Arizona doesn't make the playoffs, Cheryl has to give us the name of her personal baker. We can then have a custom Toronto Mike'd cake made up and give it to Ann Rohmer when she comes back to kick out the jams for her 7th retirement party.

February 8, 2019 @ 8:41 AM

LieveFamke glad you're feeling better!

Off topic, what's this we're hearing TorontoMike? You're not sending out email links to everyone with this weeks open mike?

Are you only sending it to VIPS like Rick and I? Seems elitist.

So we've learnt that Anthony Weiner, Tony Clement now Jeff Bezos are into sending pics of their junk to women. Having talked to a few girlfriends about this I can say that women do not appreciate receiving these pics!! We find this GROSS!

Mike, quick question regarding Hebsy's podcast. Didn't he start one with Liz West initially? What happened to that? I checked her Twitter and it seems she has her hands in many different fires, but they seemed to have a very respectable relationship and great dynamic.

Did Matt Gurney leave Global altogether? Or did he get booted off the radio? Anyone.....?

Just finished episode 75 of Hebsy on Sports. It just dropped.

Hebsy did a podcast with Liz West for a couple of years. It was based on a show they had at CHCH. Liz got busy with other projects, and Hebsy wanted to focus on sports, so they had an amicable split and Hebsy on Sports was born.

bsmntdwllr73, a.ka., IMPOTENTRAGE73!!

@Mike (Re:AM640, or whatever the hell their current name is!)

Hopefully there will be a new thread posted 'bout this soon so that the Russain Trumpbots
and the like can make with the spamming and random Google-searches filled with IMPOTENTRAGE!
and threats of ceasing all future listening intent. (Oh, and the part about the spamming is a joke, btw.
Nobody needs to deal with that kind of horseshit.) So a guy searches a few heavy metal music sites and now he's constantly bombarded with Heavy Metal Dating pop-up ads. At least the photos feature
hot ladies and not those way-out-o'my league vintage Rob Halford London Leatherboys (great Accept

James Edgar

Happy Friday all.

My Friend has gone to Calgary for the weekend to visit here daughter and I'm dog sitting. Both Dogs (Australian Shepherd Bradley Cooper and Collie , Kenzie) are a bit high maintenance so I'm a little nervous. Especially walking them as i've usually gone with my friend who has much better control. Not that they are aggressive or anything but Kenzie is super excitable and Brad is a herder and considers himself the top dog no matter what. Still I'm excited I love dogs and have wanted one or more for years but have not had a lifestyle that's been compatible so this i skind of the next best thing.

I hadn't heard that Matt Gurney was gone. I thought i heard him the other day but maybe not. Not a fan but didn't hate him either so my reaction is pretty much Meh.

Speaking of missing morning show people I do miss Elliot Price on the fan even though I'm probably the only Brady fan in existence considering the comments I'm reading . I have been listening to Brady and Ashley Docking . And I've been enjoying it even if Ashleys age makes me completely lost when they are bantering. When she takes the mike for questions of a guest or gives her opinion on Sports though she comes across as very prepared, Intelligent and very knowledgeable. And more professional than Brady does sometimes. She also busts Brdays ass quit a bit. I doubt she will be permanent after all a women on the Morning drive sports show seems unlikly from the middle aged white guys at the top at the fan but I've enjoyed her time there. I haven't listened to her edition of Toronto Mike'd

I also occasionally drop by 640 and have to say that Mike and Supriya work for me . I don't listen for long stretches so it's a small sample size but As only listen to radio from about 0700 -0800 I'm glad i can Hear Mike Stafford at all and hope he stays there.

OK That's enough of my BS for now have a great day.

There's nothing like Leafs and Canadiens at the Bell Centre when both teams are good. The only thing missing is Bob Cole.

Even James Edgar might watch the game as he dog-sits the worst named dog ever, Bradley Cooper.

Have a good and safe weekend, everybody.

@Urooj Islam Neither I nor my Friend are responsible for that silly name! He's a rescue ( Both are) and for reasons i can't explain My Friend decided not to rename him.

Bob Cole IS doing play by play tomorrow night at the Bell Centre. I think it's his last game.

Here's Bob Cole's remaining games:

Saturday, Mar. 9: Senators vs. Bruins
Saturday, Mar. 16: Blackhawks vs. Canadiens
Saturday, Mar. 30: Canadiens vs. Jets
Saturday, Apr. 6: Maple Leafs vs. Canadiens

I wonder if Bob Cole's schedule extension past this December was related to Moore's departure. I'd like to think it would have happened anyway.

Cole is the best announcer to ever call the game of hockey in this country. He'd still be doing the finals if it were up to me. Turning on the TV to find out he was calling the game Wednesday night was a great surprise.

I'm far from being an expert on dogs, but I assume it's a little easier if there's a fenced backyard for those hyperactive ones to race around in. It would be difficult for them to be confined to a small apartment most of the time.
I like them, but I'm too lazy, cheap, and irresponsible to own a dog (or even a cat). The hyperactive ones would exhaust me. I always like the big docile and friendly older Labs and Golden Retrievers.

February 8, 2019 @ 5:15 PM

James Edgar - good luck with the dogs!!! We might cat sit our cousin's cat during March Break - her name is Mercury after an outboard motor LOL.

I'll take a cat over a dog any day! I don't have to take my cats outside when its -40 to do their business, I simply clean the litter box. If I need to go out of town for 2 or 3 days I make sure the cats have enough food and water and clean the litter before I go and if its more than 3 days I get someone to come check on them and my house. My mother has a german shepherd and as much as he loves her dog she hates it cause she can't take off for any significant amount of time or do anything without having to find a sitter. Also...big dogs tend to drop big bombs and I ain't got the stomach for that! I'll pass.

February 8, 2019 @ 11:42 PM

I brought up Ian Hunter and Mott the Google to a coworker today. Oh, baby did he ever give me a blank look back! (Bob Cole reference, which should be required for all posts this week.) Bottom line - not everyone is an old codger, even if they mostly act more mature than me. :(

February 9, 2019 @ 1:32 AM

Yes, Leafs at Habs tonight. Habs will win. Of course they will. Coyotes before that though. Coyotes need to win. They have to start winning again. Basketball sucked last night. My Cavs lost again. Why do they always lose? Also a loss by my Nets. Losing to the Bulls is unacceptable. They can't afford to lose games like this, so Nets will get back on track. My Suns lost again. They keep losing, that's for sure. I don't have a cat or a dog. You still have to do things to a cat like take it to the vet and also clean up the vomit if the cat vomits a hair ball or something. Dogs have to be taken out. I know a guide dog can be of benefit, but it's too much responsibility.

I am going to put in a plug for The Longest Road Show, a fabulous concert event put together by the even more fabulous Terra Lightfoot (familiar to H&F listeners). Terra pulled together some other great performers (including Lindi Ortega, Toronto punk queen turned Nashville country badass), along with a kick-ass backing band. The Road Show wraps up at the Phoenix tonight. I hesitate to mention that the entire crew -performers, sound techs, road manager - is female; this is an outstanding concert, and certainly doesn't need the "all-girl" hype. But what Terra has put together is pretty cool.

Check it out if you are so inclined - you will not be disappointed. (Ben Rayner did a nice feature on the show this week in the Star.)

Dog lover here. I’m obese and lazy and if it wasn’t for my beloved pal I likely wouldn’t go outside at all. He must be walked so I have no choice but to take him. He’s an Australian shepherd and I love him so much. Very calm for an AS. My last dog was a border collie. Omg he was so hyper but honestly the best dog I ever had (please don’t tell my current doggo). Dogs are the best.

My absolute favourite Ian Hunter track is the slightly more than underrated 1989
gem "American Music" from his awesome collaborative reunion album "YUI Orta"
with longtime compatriot Mick Ronson. Fun fact: Pretty confident in stating that the
number one celebrity fan of Mr. Hunter is probably Joe Elliott from Def Leppard,
whose band not only recorded a great version of Mott's "The Golden Age of Rock
and Roll" on their "Yeah!" album back in 2006, but he is also the leader of a Mott
tribute band called the Down 'N' Outz.

So far so good with the dogs! Last nights walk was pretty cold but i dressed for it so it wasn't too bad. We also by mutual agreement kept it short ! This morning was much nicer and i do recommend a nice 2 km walk to start your day. As good as a couple of cups of coffee for waking up!

Cats Vs Dogs is a long running argument and I've had a cat or cats since 1992 , as i often used to go for weekend plus motorcycle rides i do appreciate the convenience of a cat litter boxes! having been living with a couple or kind of high strung dogs for a bit i do appreciate the independence that cats are famous for. the collie is pretty needy to be honest and while I'm not bothered by it too much it is occasionally disruptive. Especially if she gets a little lonely in the middle of the night and decides to let us know with a couple of barks!

@H.o.E. As far as big backyards for dogs my friend says that's not actually a good thing in most cases. dogs like shepherds ,collies and other "working" dog actually need some structure to there play/exercise time . without it hey can get bored and destructive . we have a small backyard here and they go out there for the odd pee

If i get a dog it will probably some sort of lab mix. i like laid back dogs and they are better with cats as well I'm told and i'll almost certainly have one or two of those.

Probably the only ones that would remember this guy is mostly all you musicians, but Jim Dunlop passed away this week. He was the guy that improved the guitar pick & other musical accessories. He was a giant in the industry.

He once lived in Ottawa at a time but was lured to sunny California cuz Ottawa was too cold. (dont blame him).

A lot of muscians credit him with improving their talents with those modifications on the guitar pick.

So the Grammys are airing again tonight (well, not in my oft-mentioned
one channel universe!), but do they still really even matter or make a difference
at this extreme late date?!? Really not much difference between the Grammys'
current clueless tone def(!) incarnation and its equally-inept competitors, The
American Music Award and Billboard's feeble annual tribute to the largely tuneless
dreck sadly ruling its various charts. And to think that back in my foolish younger
days I used to get all pissed off about that nearly 45 minute 'ghetto' segment into
which all the Classical and Jazz awards were obviously shoehorned into. Oh, if we
could only somehow now magically return to those once oh-so-heady musical days!!

I mean, Saint Johnny Ramone was Yngwie J. Malmsteen with regards to musical
dexterity/proficiency compared to the immensely-derivative nonsense passing for
pop/rock music today. Greta Van Fleet? PUH-LEEZE!!Truly, in what more sensible
world would the tired likes of Post Malone and that teeny, unworthy Mariah-aping
snowflake Ariana Grande be up for so many awards in the leading categories? And
please don't get me started about Cardi B, who will at least always have her illustrious
proud past as an azz-shaking stripper to eventually return to when it all goes south.
And it WILL. Just ask three time Grammy winner M.C. Hammer about dat!! if you
can currently find him, that is. (Regardless, with any luck the very deserving Brandi
Carlile will hopefully somehow manage to eke out a handful of wins for herself.)

February 10, 2019 @ 2:56 PM

Jason from Sudbury

@Basement:
Hey now! I really dig Greta Van Fleet. I know some people don't but hey to each their own. I think what they're doing is cool.
To be honest I have absolutely no clue who Post Malone, Ariana Grande and Cardi B are and could not even name one of their songs. I'm assuming those artists cannot be found on Sirius's Lithium, Octane, or Turbo playliststs, which probably explains it all.

February 10, 2019 @ 4:05 PM

Cheryl

My Suns lost again. That's no good. Well, today hopefully my Nets and Cavs will win. Nets better win or they could fall out of the race. Hope they do. They really have to find a way to win because remember there will be a Nets cake at my NBA party. Oh well, lots of snow and junk on the way again. I'm tired of this for sure. This winter is so brutal. It's bad.

February 11, 2019 @ 7:07 AM

jj

I watched the Grammys. I will reiterate - JLo was not the one to do a Motown tribute. Drake's speech was wicked. Cardi B did something amazing, that many other female rappers have unfortunately not been able to do. Good for her for making it out of a life that many don't escape.

bsmntdwllr73 - Cardi is a proud ass shaking stripper! She made it out the projects, and saw everything she dreamt of for herself, come to life. What befalls others, may not necessarily befall her!

The Motown tribute was embarrassing. Truly cringe-worthy.

@Jason From Sudbury
My main issue with GV Fleet is the overkill, OTT dog whistle volume vocals,
a la L.Z.'s "Immigrant Song". Yeah, sure, Robert Plant fully endorses this band
and he also supposedly mistook from his own immortal act upon first listen (WTF?).
Still, far too much of roadblock for this mere peon to get past. For what it's worth,
the great Gary Moore released a scorching duet with Ozzy Osbourne called "Led
Clones" in 1989, in which he eviscerated (but not by name!) the likes of David
Coverversion(!) from Whitenake and Lenny Wolf (Kingdom Come) for their unabashed
R. Plant mimicry. During that same period, Jack Russell (Great White) and Dave King
(Fastway/Katmandu/Flogging Molly) were also quite apparent in their' fondness' for
"Percy's" (Plant's nickname, btw!) style of vocalizing. At the same time, both of those
two latter gents had a far greater control of their tone/delivery than GV Fleet's bleating
goat of a frontman. However, I see that said band won a Grammy last night, so I
guess that this means that their legion of critics, including myself, of course, might
be more than a little bit out of touch in this regard.

February 11, 2019 @ 10:10 AM

So this morning it was announced that the Rolling Bones will be performing at
Burl's Creek on Saturday June 29th. Not sure about the sponsors for this
tour. but gotta hope that the likes of Depends, Ensure, Polident and Revera
are all a part of that sure to be profitable mix! Pretty sure that "Midnight Rambler"
will now be performed under the title of "Daytime Rambler" in order to accommodate
Charlie's earlier bedtime! And who knows, perhaps Mick will meet his next potential
baby mama at this gig. Oh, and how could I have omitted Zoomer/CARP from that
above list of surefire sponsors?!? Fer shame!

February 11, 2019 @ 10:10 AM

bsmntdwllr73

@jj
Not a gambler by any stretch of the imagination, but willing to bet that Cardi B ends up in
the has been pile just as quickly as the likes of Lil' Kim. Foxy Brown, and the increasingly
irrelevant Nicki Minaj Hopefully she will manage to have stashed more than a little bit
of her cheddar away for when that day inevitably occurs! P.S.,I saw a clip on the news
this morning of her slipping the tongue to that Offset fella on the Grammy Red Carpet,
Really classy. And as for that whole "raising herself up from the ghetto" angle, perhaps
I would have more respect for that if I actually enjoyed her music. Still, I've seen some
online clips from her stripping days, and that I can definitely get behind! (P.S., it is up
to the reader to decide whether or not I was making a less than subtle pun above!!)

February 11, 2019 @ 10:19 AM

jj

bsmntdwllr73 - Lil Kim, Foxy, Nicki are not easily forgotten if you're truly into hip hop. I do enjoy Cardi's music, but even for people who don't - her story and trajectory is admirable. Many people don't make their careers into successful ones the way she has done. I am not sure what's not to love about a rags to riches story tbh! She is skilled in her dance moves, and her rap ability. Her thing with Offset is whack, but that's hollywood.

TM - I enjoyed Diana Ross' tribute to herself, and Dolly's was amazing. Miley Cyrus has an amazing voice, and it's great that Dolly and Diana obviously had their tributes done to their expectations. Motown, I guess Mr Gordy was busy?!

That being said, so you probably also admire how Jay-Z admittedly went from being a drug dealer
(who both dealt to kids and also employed them as runners under his watch?!?). At least someone

Holy crap, I just looked it up, Fergie actually has 8 Grammys!

Too bad Iggy Azalea was robbed a few years ago, one of the greatest rappers of our generation. A key inspiration to Cardi B, I'm sure.

February 11, 2019 @ 12:40 PM

jj

bsmntdwllr73 - I don't like Jay Z, but I can admire anyone who got from that to where he is now. And he is giving back tenfold. Cardi B wasn't stripping for kids, just for herself so she could support herself and her family. So yes, I admire them both for turning their lives around in positive ways.

Urooj Islam - neither of those women were robbed, haha. Fergie had a great album though, and I bopped her first solo release.

February 11, 2019 @ 12:41 PM

bsmntdwllr73

@Urooj Islam
Being an Aspie, means I'm not always so good with discerning sarcasm (Not! Hi Sheldon Cooper!!),
but I sure do hope that you were joking with regards to your praise for Iggy Azalea?!?

@jj
I guess you're made of better stuff than I am, 'cause when I see Jay-Z I can't (Read: WON'T) separate
his current life from his less than illustrious past. In the real world, such allowances/second, third fourth chances aren't always available, even for circumstances that were perhaps out of the so-called guilty (metaphorically speaking) person's control. But I guess where immense commerce and notoriety are concerned, everything is pretty much permissible in showbiz until it's not (no further explanations are required!)

February 11, 2019 @ 12:49 PM

jj

bsmntdwllr73 - I'm not made of better stuff, but kudos to JayZ. He isn't someone I care for either way. And the same can be said for Cardi B, but what she's done, I find pretty cool.

February 11, 2019 @ 1:35 PM

bsmntdwllr73

@jj
You might be on to something there. While I might not agree with their tactics and perhaps
a certain exploitation of a particular kind of ghetto/projects narrative, at the same time I
I also take great issue with folks who ride to success on the backs of great wealth and
perhaps easy nepotism breaks (please see the Reitman and Levy siblings, for two current
semi-Canuck examples of this...!). Come to think of it, I probably won't be happy until
everybody's a miserable bottom feeder and were all 'equal'. Such 'humanist' philosophy has
really worked wonders in the quite fractured Soviet Union to date!!

February 11, 2019 @ 2:50 PM

bsmntdwllr73

I mean, Jason Reitman hasn't had a commercial film hit since 2009's "Up In The Air" and now
his daddy (who also has been hitless since around the time of "Space Jam") has handed him
the keys to that tired old "Ghostbusters" franchise. I'd like to see Leslie Jones go a couple
of rounds with that dude over what she deemed to be a major slight of that less than great
distaff version she took part in back in the summer of 2016. My money would be on L.J.!!

February 11, 2019 @ 3:02 PM

bsmntdwllr73

Quick correction: Papa Reitman had an overall financially-successful hit with "No Strings
Attached" in 2011. One of the few successful flicks in the otherwise patchy cinematic oeuvre of Ashton Kutcher. Mea culpa.

Who was the best mayor Toronto has ever had, Cheryl?

February 11, 2019 @ 9:57 PM

Cheryl

Mel Lastman was the best Mayor we ever had. Too bad he can't run again as Mayor. He was the best. Well, disappointed in my Nets. They lost by two fricken points. They were winning. Why couldn't they fricken win. Now they are slumping at a bad time. My Cavs won though for a change. Nice to get a win, but my Cavs aren't going anywhere. Stupid fricken winter. I hate it. Well, my personal trainer says he is still planning on making it. I don't know though. It's bad out there and we do need the army. I just hate this weather so much. Mel Lastman has to be voted in again.

There's nothing actually stopping Mel Lastman from running again.

And that Nets game last night was great!

bsmntdwllr73 - I liked the 2016 Ghostbuster. Most people assume that the original ones were some cinematic masterpiece, they weren't. Many people just complained because it was all women to be honest. Same with the all female Ocean's remake - Ocean's 11-13 are not cinematic excellence. And the cast for Ocean just didn't do it for me, whereas the Ghostbusters cast was great and funny to me.

February 12, 2019 @ 10:28 AM

bsmntdwllr73

But is Mel Lastman too old at this point to enlist in the army himself (LATRINE
DUTY, I SAY!)? Probably. #Ageism (However, he still has ample time to shore-up
his membership in the much more worthy KISS Army.) P.S., I hear that all new grunts
have the opportunity to enter a draw for a chance to wash Paul and Gene's girdles when
their so-called "End Of The Road" (nice inadvertent Boyz II Men nod!!) lip sync fest
hits town. Chance of a lifetime!

February 12, 2019 @ 10:28 AM

bsmntdwllr73

@jj
My issues with the last Ghostbusters flick had nothing to do with gender and everything to do with a largely unfunny script. Also, 35 years on the original movie is pretty threadbare, and I don't just mean the cutting edge for their time special effects. The character of Peter Venkman would never pass go or collect $200 in this current overly-p..c climate!!

February 12, 2019 @ 10:46 AM

bsmntdwllr73

Gee, I wonder if any of those fortunate students are chossing to spend their day off
watching Chevy Chase's awesome 2000 flick "Snow Day"? Definitely in the
top three of his vastly underrated cinematic oeuvre, alongside "Deal of the
Century" (1983) and the greatly misunderstood "Spies Like Us" (1985), which
also features perhaps the finest Macca solo song since his days in that
little-known garage rock combo Wings.

The schools and daycare were closed, and tonight's hockey games at George Bell Arena have been cancelled.

On the brightside, it's not very cold out, and I just shovelled without a jacket on. Couldn't ride though because I've been watching the 4 and 2 year olds.

Well, my trainer made it, but I was his last client. He was going to go home early. Anyway, Mel Lastman should be voted in again. He was the best mayor we ever had. My Coyotes won last night. That's great. No, the Nets game wasn't great last night. They are slumping, but tonight I have my Nets at my Cavs. I think Nets need it more than my Cavs do because my Cavs are just not going anywhere. My Nets should have won the other day. My Habs play tomorrow so that's good. Beat those Predators.

bsmntdwllr73 - a lot of people hated on it because it was an all female cast. the movie to me was enjoyable. i don't find the original any kinda masterpiece, like i said. original definitely had its haters too! and i don't always think today we're more pc, just people aren't down for obviously tacky and insensitive jokes (in my opinion)

I've always believed that the audience will decide what is acceptable with regards to standards
in various forms of comedy. I also think that it also depends on other various intangibles such
as demeanor, delivery, tone and the overall scope of a performers act or a movie/TV show's comedic arc. After all, Jerry Seinfeld is pretty vanilla in his language and range of subject material (but still great!!) and even he refuses to tour college/university campuses at this point due to the overly-p.c. nature of their student unions/charters and the like. Far too much apologizing going on
from comedians at this juncture, especially over ancient tweets and the like. I can't even imagine
how Eddie Murphy would be able to break through in a mainstream way in 2019 based on his
hilarious (personal opinion, but shared by many others as well) original act from the 1980s. When
it comes to comedy, the only thing that really offends me is unfunny hack comedians (and there are currently plenty of them). One person's Russell Peters is another person's Pauly Shore (ME!!!)

It would appear that we are in the midst of the annual "Roll Up The Rim To Win" Campaign.
True story: I've rolled up the rim and lost (many times, in fact, far too countless to mention!!
Hey, that would also certainly make for a fantastic title for that long-gestating autobiography
I've been threatening to write for the past several decades, (Unsolicited tip for any book
editors reading this: my story can be bought for the price of an upsized combo at McDonalds,
and yes, I'm that easy!!). Another title I've been running through my head lately is The Frayed Ends
of Sanity, which not only fits my general mood over the past 6 months or so, but it is also the
title of an underrated Metallica track from '88, despite its (on purpose) discernible lack of
bass guitar!

February 13, 2019 @ 10:30 AM

Beatts

The best part of the roll up the rim campaign is it means McDonald's has $1 coffee (which is better coffee IMHO than Timmy Ho's)

February 13, 2019 @ 10:33 AM

@Beatts
And I'm not even manly enough to drink straight-up coffee. French vanilla and hot chocolate
are the only hot beverages permitted by my overly-sensitive palette (culinary tastes of a toddler,
minus the grilled cheese!!).

Time to rescue notable eighties Keytarist Paul Hardcastle from whatever smooth jazz Gulag
he's been imprisoned in for over 25 years, and force him at Midi(!)-point to come up with an
updated version of that classic "19" jam in loving tribute to my new favourite pin-up model, Marcella

February 13, 2019 @ 1:38 PM

bsmntdwllr73

"Nineteen" by Phil Lynott or its 1992 cover version by Steve Vai's protegees/puppets Bad4Good
would also serve as nice musical accompaniment for any future stories about the somewhat
alluring Miss Zoia. And let's not forget "Hey Nineteen" by the legendarily sardonic Steely Dan,
either.

Well, my Nets beat my Cavs in tons of overtime. Oh well, my Nets needed it more. My Suns lost again. My Habs play tonight. Well, I broke a tooth last night. I don't know how I did it, but it broke. I thought maybe something just got stuck in it, but it broke. This tooth doesn't even have a filling in it or crown or anything. It's awful. Anyway, it doesn't hurt, but it's cracked. I need to go to the dentist, make an appointment. These things never happen when the office is open. My dentist is close, but the sidewalks are going to be icy as hell. That's why we need the army to clean things up.

February 14, 2019 @ 7:22 AM

So imagine my horror when I picked up (well,it actually floated since it is now so light!) the
latest issue of Now with the print-bait headline "Crisis? What Crisis?" all about how this city
tragically continues to mishandle the issues surrounding homeless people. Not for me to debate that,
but I certainly take issue with their use of a Supertramp album title (1975). Released after
"Crime of the Century" and before "Even In the Quietest Moments", said album doesn't always
get its due, but it does feature a trio of real gems in "Sister Moonshine", "Lady" and "Soap Box
Opera". In the future I really hope that Now would wisely stick to 'borrowing' its titles more from
the kinds of obscure acts most likely to be reviewed in their probably soon to be extinct (print) pages!!

Also, I would be remiss if I didn't add one more track to that brief list I provided yesterday as
soundtrack suggestions for any future stories about my new number one fantasy girl. Marcella
Zoia: Joe Jackson's lost 1989 track "Nineteen Forever" from his possibly career best "Blaze Of
Glory" album. On a related note, it saddens me that Hugh Hefner is no longer alive to make the
once inevitable offer of a tasteful spread in Playboy Magazine (now published quarterly at the cost
of $30, too much for my broke ass to afford, regrettably!! In a parallel universe she would join
the likes of my most-cherished Danielle House. the very brief Miss Canada Intntl. pageant winner, who
parlayed her expulsion into brief Playboy infamy and a legendary" Lunch With Jan Wong" article
in the Globe, where she went into quite graphic detail about her, ahem, grooming regiment,
ahead of that shoot (December 1997 issue, for those keeping track at home). Such simpler
and hairier times were those....

It's official. Mike Wilner and Ben Wager share the radio play-by-play call across the Sportsnet Radio Network. Wilner is the first Blue Jays radio play-by-play broadcaster who was born and raised in Toronto.

Sources say Wilner's appearances on Toronto Mike'd humanized him and made him more likeable, leading to the decision to give him his dream job.

Sad news about the cancellation of MusiquePlus. I used to love watching that
channel back in the day, especially due to their excessive (NEVER!!) airing of
key Mitsou videos like that wet 'n'wild visual ode to tent pitching," Dis-Moi, dis Moi"!!!
Plus, it was the only place for more discerning T.O. teens to see the absolutely
stunning Natalie Richard before she was wisely beamed aboard the mothership
broadcast. With a few unnamed exceptions ('cause I'm a gentleman, natch),
MuchMusic was certainly a Smoke Show of female sex appeal throughout its
first ten to twelve years on the air. And, of course, there was also a lot of
beefcake appeal for the ladies and interested fellas to appreciate as well!!

H.o.E.

I also thought of the Phil Lynott song. I'm not entirely sure of how or why I even remember it. Being almost as cheap then as now, I did buy, from a used record store, the last Thin Lizzy album and the Gary Moore "Run For Cover" album, and one of them might have had a promo 45rpm single of it thrown in (and according to Wikipedia, it was actually a non-album single).
Speaking of Wikipedia, I had been unaware that Ritchie Blackmore initially intended to leave Deep Purple in 1972 to form a new band with Lynott, before Phil (probably wisely in hindsight, given Blackmore's dickishness and tendency to fire band members with almost every new album) declined the offer.
I recently saw a listing for a show featuring Deep Purple and Thin Lizzy tribute acts, so they do exist.
