Apparently for Mike, this card worked a lot better magic on Monica, than it did on Lisa Simpson. :p
Have a great Valentine's Day.
:)

LieveFamke

Sad, I'll wish you Happy Valentines Day before I wish my husband! I forgot, he forgot.

well, now that this hallmark holiday has come and will soon be gone, the xmas decorations will start coming out at the dollar store...oh wait..i forgot about the day that everyone culturally misappropriates my native culture by dressing up as a mythical angry drunken dwarf while consuming shockingly overpriced food-coloured draught beer.

Jody - LOL!

LieveFamke - worry not, I wished Mike before my husband as well! I'm single, and I don't even know who my husband would be!

Ryan G - I can't wait until people don't culturally appropriate for fun either, I understand how upsetting it is.

I saw/heard more mentions/ads related to Chinese New Year this month than Valentine's Day.

It really is a young person's "holiday" for the most part built up now primarily by social media and other dated traditions like giving out cards in elementary school. Once you get past a certain age, it barely creates a blip on a calendar.

February 14, 2019 @ 11:51 AM

LieveFamke

@jj, ha ha, throwing it out to the world, and maybe you'll get a husband (that's if you want one..)

jj

LieveFamke - I would indeed like one, but he has not showed up on my doorstep in the way I'd hoped he would? I am hoping the energy of the universe will send him my way...! :)

February 14, 2019 @ 12:49 PM

Jody Thornton

OK jj, I'm available. I'll see to it that the universe sends me right over :p
(haaaaaa!)

@Urooj Islam

It's a really young person's holiday. My four year old was super jazzed about the whole thing. He's got cards for his classmates, he's wearing a shirt with a heart on it, even though it's too small for him now (I put it over another shirt), he'd got a card for his teacher, and I've got something for him tonight!

We'll find jj a husband at TMLX3 if she promises to take care of the name tags.

Not necessarily my current Valentine's Day philosophy, but perhaps that very loquaicious
former American Hair Metal Poet Dee Snider summed things up most succinctly with his
ultimately pointless last-ditch attempt at commercial relevancy with Twisted Sister's "Love
Is For Suckers", released way back in the dog days of the summer of 1987:

"Love is for dreamers, love is for believers
Love is for losers, love is
For suckers
Love is for suckers, love is for suckers"

Now I know that the above lyrics don't exactly ring out as comparable with Shakespeare
in his prime, say, Sonnet 18's immortal opening stanza of "Shall I compare you to a summer's
day?" An all time stone-cold classic in the bra-loosening sweepstakes, or so I've read. However,
compared to the largely-illiterate likes of Poison and Warrant, well ol' Dee was definitely a more
than veritable substitute for the reclusive likes of Thomas Pynchon!!

Glad to see that at least some folks have pleasant memories of Valentine's
Days from their long ago school days. Me, well, personally I was always
more than a little bit jealous of Charlie Brown's haul, and he usually didn't
get any, either. Hmm, there might have been one grade school year where it was a
forced issue that all students were to be included, but even then I don't think that
I received very many V-cards in the end. Never had the pleasure of 'cancelling'
any more adult "V-Cards" later in life, but that's another sob story for perhaps
a more adult thread. Open Mikes After Dark, anyone?!?

I had people coming up to me today, "So are you making your mom a Valentines Day dinner?" I live with my mom but I'm like "First of all, I make dinner for the two of us most nights. Second of all, why would I do it specifically because its Valentine's Day?"

It seems like Valentines Day is the new Christmas or Easter for children as kids expect gifts and chocolate today. But it seems like adults also feel like they have to go over and above for people other than their lovers too. It truly is a Hallmark holiday.
