Hurry up and be first, Cheryl.

November 9, 2018 @ 7:56 AM

H.o.E. , Cheryl's licking her wounds from those pesky NHL teams that beat hers last night.

November 9, 2018 @ 8:01 AM

I wonder if the occasional banner ads mess up her screen reader.

November 9, 2018 @ 8:28 AM

So where's all the outcry and rage over Posh Spice not taking in part in next year's (so far U.K.
only) re-reunion tour?!? It just won't be the same without her Resting B. Face/Stink Eye/Human
Coat Rack impression and turned-off microphone a la vintage Yoko Ono!! Girl power? More like
Gran(ny) Power at this critical juncture!!! Baby's still looking swell, however.

November 9, 2018 @ 9:31 AM

It took me long to find this open Mike. I was looking. I opened and closed my browser several times. I finally found this open Mike. I don't know why it was hiding so long, but it was. I don't know what is happening. It hides sometimes on Fridays, but other times it doesn't. Yes, Barfalo beat my Habs in overtime. Carey Price is allowing goals gallore for some reason. I have no idea why he is doing that. My Coyotes should have won, but they blew it in overtime to the Cryers Flyers. I hate them. The Flyers were very popular in boarding school. Lots of people loved them, not me. My Suns also lost. They were also leading, but blew it and lost in overtime. It's awful. Well, postal workers are still on strike. This mediator is not a special mediator at all. I want my birthday money and I'm not going to get it. Well, my birthday is in a month. December 12 is coming fast. Even if they do go back a week before, there will be so much mail and my birthday money will be in that big pile of it. Come on Justin Trudeau, legislate them back to work. There's also Christmas as well. I really don't care about Christmas, but lots of people do and they want or need their presents. You should know that now, Trudeau. When you were a kid, you wanted your birthday and Christmas presents as well. I didn't even vote for you, Justin, and I never will.

November 9, 2018 @ 9:33 AM

Time to start forwarding this thread to the PMO (a.k.a, Trudeau's office!). Perhaps if he was finally
made aware of how frustrated the average Canuck was getting over this ongoing postal stoppage,
he'd lace up his boxing gloves and settle it mano a mano with the head of that particular union? Also,
maybe Patrick Brazeau can be a corner man or the official jock strap inspector? C'mon, Justin, give
us plebes something to be cheerful about again, please? One thing's for certain, definitely glad
that I cancelled my lengthy subscriptions to The Atlantic and Hustler ages ago.

November 9, 2018 @ 9:43 AM

If he is going to put on the boxing gloves one more time, it needs to involve something bigger than a slight postal disruption. Maybe a "loser must quit politics" match against our dignified premier, or maybe a certain tantrum-throwing orange clown who called him weak? I would definitely watch either one of those.

November 9, 2018 @ 10:02 AM

Very good suggestions. His nickname could be the "PM PUGILIST."Let's start a collection up on
Kickstarter to make this happen and a write-in petition to enlist the heady services of Michael
Buffer! P.S., pretty confident that Dougie is more suitable for Sumo success at this point!
He'd look dashing in a powder blue Mawashi!!

I still find Barfalo funny.

I'm 9th today. Goody! I like having the 9th post...for no reason what's so ever other than I'm bored at the moment.

November 9, 2018 @ 10:11 AM

Jason from Sudbury

Dough! Guess I'll be #10 and 11. I'm cool with 11 though as its one of my favorit numbers.
I also call it "Barfalo", heard Joe Cahil on HTZ calling it Barfalo about 15 years ago. Thought it was funny then and its still funny now.

November 9, 2018 @ 10:14 AM

Barfalo: Premiere hometown of the Goo Goo Doll's original punk rock incarnation!! Over 20 years
ago I took an endless bus ride through its most refined streets to get to a cut-rate, outskirts mall and was totally impressed with the post crime, chalk outline magic of it all. Imagine all the great songs
The Boss could have written if only he had emerged from an even more desolate locale!!!

November 9, 2018 @ 10:16 AM

Just discovered an amazing Latin rock band from Texas called Brownout. They do fantastic, album length tributes to the likes of Black Sabbath and Public Enemy. Highly recommended!

@bsmntdwllr73 -- Are petitions still a 'thing' in 2018?

And where would we send it? I dont know who the current equivalents of Don King and Bob Arum would be, but I would think it would be a money-making event.

November 9, 2018 @ 11:44 AM

Perhaps we need to bombard Justin T.'s personal secretary (whomever the hell that might be)
and he or she can pass on the news of the ones and twos of peeps who are jonesin' for some updated PM Pugilist action? As for petition, they've probably gone digital at this point, but what do
I know, as I've recently re-activated my mid-period blue Sony Walkman after absentmindedly
losing my Wal-Mart Discman on the Dufferin bus several weekends ago. Important memo:
Nobody ever turns vintage tech into the TTC's lost and found office, let alone anything truly
valuable. Plus, there are real goons working there, the type of characters who probably get
aroused from telling folks that their proverbial crap hasn't turned up yet (if it ever will, that is!!)

November 9, 2018 @ 11:55 AM

Yes,my LV Golden Showers seem to have started the season with a small tract infection.
But, alas they play some team from Quebec on Saturday which is better than seeing a cross-boarder doctor.
A free easy win will get the Golden Showers flowing at 100 % again.

November 9, 2018 @ 12:13 PM

But what is the(ir) current yeast situation like? Is there enough to bake several tasty cakes at this point?!?

November 9, 2018 @ 12:21 PM

Blind Dave

Bitchin' cold on the Prairies. The zipper on my winter coat gave in, and of course, I was in Mark's just two days before. The coat is 10-11 years old so it had a good run. I have a heavy fall coat and a hoodie for -27 wind the last couple of days. I was surprised I was warm on my torso. The point of the Mark's story is that I got two gift cards for my purchases (2 x $20) but they are not valid till December 4. Just under a month to go...

November 9, 2018 @ 8:33 PM

Mike as U maybe a jinx, just don't post about the Leafs or Raptors in near future.
Just kidding but may be true.

November 9, 2018 @ 10:32 PM

Rick C in Oakville

I like Andrew Scheers comment on Tony Clements situation, " Do we need to send out the memo about this behavior not being acceptable ", or something to this effect.
Never understood people willing to put a whole career/relation ships over this type of behavior, especially people in the public eye.

November 9, 2018 @ 11:00 PM

Urooj Islam

Why don't the Leafs miss a beat without Matthews?

Howard Berger needs to write a sequel to his infamous column.

November 9, 2018 @ 11:40 PM

Goody, my Nets won last night. It was close, but they won it. Hurrah. Well, my Habs will win tonight. Yes, they will beat those Golden Showers. My Coyotes will win as well. My Nets and Suns will win, but especially my Cavs will win. They need it. I talked to the mailman yesterday. He says this weekend is critical. If there is no agreement by the end of the weekend, then there will be a full blown strike on Black Friday. He said if they get legislated back, then they may not even go back and then there won't be any mail during my birthday and Christmas. That's not good. They better get an agreement. Just be happy you have jobs, Guys. These unions get so greedy. They really do.

November 10, 2018 @ 7:15 AM

Joey Wasaga

First there was the trainer then the security guard and joining the cast today "the mailman ". Can the janitor be waiting in the wings?

November 10, 2018 @ 8:57 AM

And then, perhaps, the entire 'casts' from those most awesome board games Clue and Monopoly?
A great pop song in the vein of "Mr. Bojangles", "American Pie" and "Mr. Bojangles" could definitely
be constructed based on the human drama surrounding this ongoing (postal) saga!!

November 10, 2018 @ 9:28 AM

Sorry, the 2nd "Mr. Bojangles" above was meant to be "Piano Man", which is somewhat derivative
of the former song!

November 10, 2018 @ 9:30 AM

Fun Factl: King Crimson "Talked To The Wind" way back in 1969. And they probably got much
better results than talking to some run-of-the-mill mail man! "Please Mr. Post Man, G.F.Y.!!" (Figure
it out, not that hard!!).

November 10, 2018 @ 9:33 AM

Loved the good old days when CBC would stream Leafs games. They had a person named Monika as their moderator & you could talk to people all over the country live commenting on the action & hockey in general.

Those were the days my friend. Mary Hopkins

November 10, 2018 @ 4:40 PM

My Habs managed to squeak in a win although that was close. Great that my Habs won, but my Coyotes lost. They got shut out. Basketball sucked last night. My Suns, Cavs, and Nets all lost. My Cavs lost by a fricken point. That's no good at all. They missed the last shot. They had the last shot, but they missed it. Football today. My Ravens are off this week, but go Browns and Cardinals. I need them both to win. The postal saga better end soon. I mean why couldn't they do this in the summer when it wasn't so close to my birthday. They were without a contract for a year, so why couldn't they have done this nonsense earlier. I think it will be full blown and go through all of December. It's the same fricken thing every day. It's awful.

November 11, 2018 @ 7:44 AM

Four things:
#1. Thanks to Mike for posting that link to that great new Lowest of the Low track "Lazy Days" in his
Twitter feed. Excellent piano and organ work from Blue Rodeo keyboardist Mike Boguski!

#2. Was talking to someone last night and the timely subject of poppies came up. Considering
how many illicit drugs are derived from this flower, a little bit surprised that in these overly-p.c. times,
there hasn't been serious discussion about perhaps finding a more suitable symbol to mark this
important day of Remembrance. (Please note: Playing Devil's Advocate with this one.)

#3. Speaking of Remembrance Day, I think that i was in grade 4 or 5 in the early 1980s when
public schools stopped scheduling it as a professional development day, due somewhat to a claimed lack of personal resonance for that era's students. All I know is that I personally looked
forward to it as a brief respite from constant verbal and occasional physical attacks. Not sure what
the situation is like now for students when it occurs on a weekday. In fact, pretty surprised that the
library is open today.

#4. And on a lighter note, can't help but to mention the frequent ads for male sexual dysfunction currently airing on both Q107 and Boom 97.3. Yes, a little bit disappointed that a couple of great
(and totally understated) tracks from AC/DC in "Let's Get It Up" and "Let Me Put My Love Into You", weren't hastily licensed for their topical relevancy!

November 11, 2018 @ 2:03 PM

The 2 minutes of silence when I was in school was at 11th day of 11th month 11th hour & 11th minute. That was 45-50 years ago.
Timing may have changed since then. I like how you posted on your blog about Rememerence Day much before 11AM & posted the time as 11AM.
On an historical note - 40 years ago today Jonestown massacre (Jim Jones) happened.

Here in the Commonwealth, we observe the moment of silence at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month.

November 11, 2018 @ 4:32 PM

Rick C in Oakville

@bsmntdwllr73 , Just as the Swastika has become a sign of terror from the Nazi's use up to the end of WW2, where it was once an innocent Hindu (and other ) religious symbol. The poppy shouldn't be earmarked for the dustbin due to it's unfortunate use to produce an illicit drug. I travel from Kirkland Lake to Timmins every year and pass through the barely big enough to be on a map town of Swastika, and personally happy they haven't given in to change the name.

I always attend Remembrance day at the Cenotaph at Kingston and Danforth roads in Scarborough, as my dad is a WW2 vet and at 92 can still take part in the Wreath laying ceremonies, and poppy tagging.
When Remembrance day falls on a week day, the kids from the local Cliffside Public school always participate, reading In Flander Fields, and singing.
Fortunately this is not an official day off for schools (or any one else) and it is utter bullshite that it is a federal holiday for Banks and other federal employees, since if it falls on a Sunday( or Saturday) it becomes a holiday Monday for them. Most veterans will tell you it shouldn't be a holiday, and that if you want to truly honour the purpose, you will find your way to recognise the 2 minutes of silence, whether at work or at a ceremony, without needing a full days holiday, cheapening this event.

November 11, 2018 @ 9:30 PM

Well, my Browns played a great game yesterday. That's wonderful. They won handily. I love my Cleveland Browns. They'lkl be in the playoffs because they'll win the rest of their games. My Cardinals didn't do so well though. That's no good. They lost again. Well, my personal baker will bake a nice Browns cake that will be chocolate. Great. There will be a Superbowl party. My Coyotes won yesterday as well. They played great. Hopefully my Nets and Suns win tonight. I heard nothing more about the postal full blown strike. Well, they should just be happy they have jobs. I mean unions are so stupid. They want more and more and more. This is why I don't like them. I would never vote NDP ever.

November 12, 2018 @ 7:28 AM

Absolutely nothing will ever beat that fabled and mo(i)st(!) solemn Chief Wahoo cake, sadly denied
to the Toronto Mike'd faithful due to a most dreadful Cleveland baseball squad! Sadly, my weak
heart and free-dessert-craving stomach can take no more of this constant prognosticating cake-teasing!!!

November 12, 2018 @ 10:06 AM

My Nets and Suns lost. This sucks. That's no good. My Cavs better win tonight. Yes, the Browns will win the Superbowl and we will have a Browns cake. It will be chocolate with bits of Oh Henry bar inside the cake. I know my Cleveland Browns will do it. That's great. Superbowl party will be the first Saturday after the Superbowl. Postal strike is still the same. They're not in Toronto again, thank goodness, but they'll all go out Black Friday, you'll see because it looks like nothing is being done about it. Justin Trudeau doesn't care. He sits on his ass all day and does nothing about the stupid unions. I hate unions. I really do.

November 13, 2018 @ 6:48 AM

Never having been interested in the comicbook/superhero stuff (unless you count Stupendous Man, Spaceman Spiff, and other alter-egos of Calvin & Hobbes, and Snoopy's Masked Marvel and WWI fighter ace), the Stan Lee post only made me think of Ed the Sock because he interviewed him. Looking at Ed's Twitter and Facebook, he is embarking on a tour of western Canada, maybe to be followed by the eastern half of the country in 2019. Since the new Sauga 960 AM station seems to have become a destination for popular local personalities otherwise now without mainstream media exposure, I wonder if Ed and Liana could eventually end up there, with maybe a once-a-week show?

November 13, 2018 @ 9:17 AM

Friendly tip: The Reese Peanut Butter Oh Henry! would make for an superlative filling for that most
excellent future Superbowl party cake. Perhaps it would be prudent to widen the field of prospective
champions so that it doesn't just fall on the Browns to deliver on this chosen cake's tasty destiny?!?

November 13, 2018 @ 9:20 AM

Speaking of Mr. Sock, what ever happened to re-booking his once scheduled KOTJ appearance?
Surely his fundraising efforts have ceased by now!

I would much prefer an Ed the Sock show stag. Might release him from some of the content restraints
seemingly placed upon him by his better half!! Kinda feel like he's been a wee bit neutered since he
became part of that sock and wife duo act, almost like a Canuck Captain and Tenille minus the
musical talent and nifty captain's hat!!

November 13, 2018 @ 9:26 AM

November 13, 2018 @ 1:48 PM

I don't know why both my first and last names showed up on my last post. I think I got it fixed now though. How about those Cavs. Great that they won. They better win tonight as well as my Nets and Suns. My Coyotes and Habs lost. That's no good. Hockey sucked last night. Postal strike is back in Toronto. I'm telling you they were out yesterday and they'll be out today as well. I hate Justin Trudeau. He won't do anything about it. He doesn't care that it's almost December and close to my birthday and Christmas. He is just letting it go. Well, I'm telling you I hate unions. I don't care what anybody says. This strike could go until July. Apparently they were without a contract for a whole year, so they should have settled this a lot earlier. Anyway, do something, Trudeau. Legislate them back to work. If you don't, it looks like they'll stay on strike forever.

So it's a real tragedy that Casey Kasem is no longer with us, 'cause otherwise I'd snail mail in a
request and passionately plead with him to play that long-lost musical gem "Part of the Union" by The
Strawbs (1973), and obviously dedicate it to a very special person (on here!).

Tom Wilson is a remarkable artist who embodies the best of his hometown (Hamilton) and heritage (Mohawk). I cannot think of anyone whosecmusic and art has evolved to cover so much ground - maybe Neil Young, but Neil's path has been somewhat circular rather than linear. I would love to hear Tom talk about what comes next for him - are any more Lee Harvey OsMOnD releases planned? And are there any up and coming musicians or artists out there who he thinks are doing great things?

One more question for Tom:

This Ain't Hollywood, or The Casbah?

Cannot believe the XMAX decor on my street. Mid Nov. & lights are glowing & Christmas trees lighting up front windows on my street. When is the proper time to do this as I would say 1st week of Dec. as earliest?

November 14, 2018 @ 9:22 PM

I wanted the Royals to win in 2015. I was in a pool and I had them. I won the money. Remember? Well, bad night. My Cavs got clobbered. That is not a good thing. My Nets also lost. My Suns won though. Good thing my Suns won. Hopefully my Habs and Coyotes win tonight. Well, postal strike still on. They are back to work in Toronto though. Anyway, I hate unions. There have been postal strikes before, but this one is the absolute worst because it will go right past my birthday. Others at least settled by then. Justin Trudeau doesn't care. Okay, Justin, think about your kids if you have any. How would they like it if their presents got caught in this stupid strike? They sure wouldn't like it. Well, think about them as well as everyone else. You have to legislate them back to work and do it now. My birthday is on December 12, Justin.

I used to think like you... wait until December!

The exception is when you have young children who are so excited about Christmas that you want to extend that fun... in which case I'm okay so long as you wait until after Remembrance Day.

November 15, 2018 @ 8:44 AM

But in real life "Mrs. Oleson" was apparently a very spiritual person. Just goes to show that you
can't judge a performer based on their most famous role!! 'Cept for Donald Trump and The

So I just finished listening to yesterday's edition of Toronto Mike Insider and I would highly
recommend that everybody listen to it. Quite fascinating to hear both the highs and the lows
behind the ongoing development of the TMDS brand. Having never been able to even successfully
manage a sea monkey colony let alone a lemonade stand, I can't help but be impressed by Mike's
tremendous passion and Herculean efforts to succeed. Such heart and Cojones on this man, I
have no doubt that things will all work out fine for him in the end.

November 15, 2018 @ 9:34 AM

twins from bolton - I have been feeling the Christmas spirit since right after Halloween, one friend has her tree up as of this past Sunday. My feeling is let people do what they want, unless we contribute to their household income in some kind of way. life is too short, i find the christmas lights so beautiful, i can't complain (and trust me I can always complain about something)

November 15, 2018 @ 10:05 AM

Cheryl - The Prime Minister has children, but probably would just use Amazon to get their gifts to them. Unions are double edged sword. You still have a lot of time to call your aunt and see if there is an alternate way for you to receive your Christmas present.

November 15, 2018 @ 10:06 AM

Urooj Islam

Toronto Mike is 100% bang on, how enthused adults get about a holiday is directly related to how many kids under 10 live in or regularly visit the house.

That goes for everything from if you carve a pumpkin to how early the Halloween decorations go up to how early the Christmas tree and decorations go up.

Very few exceptions to this from personal experience.
