Cheryl may not make the top 5 today

September 28, 2018 @ 7:50 AM

I cannot stand Doug Ford. He is a lousy person, Premier and politician. But I will not disagree with the decision on end the Drive Clean. So good job on that.

I would comment on the Supreme Court issues in the US but it seems rational debate on these topics doesn’t exist anymore. I really hope the GOP goes down in flames and Trump style politics comes to an end. Hearing elected officials say things like, “I will listen to her but she’s lying and it won’t change my vote” is the most aggravating part of this process. All of these assholes would have hung Bill Clinton with the same level of accusations. Sexual assault shouldn’t be a partisan issue. Democrats, Republicans, Conservatives, Liberals and NDP have all been guilty of the same things. And these jerks wonder why women don’t come forward.

I was at a concert recently and it was in a stadium type setting. When the headliner came on stage I stood up to enjoy the show. The guy behind me was not happy with me. He wanted to sit. To be fair I am about 6’2 but seriously, it’s a damn music concert! You shouldn’t be sitting unless it’s Mozart. Well, if it was Mozart then I would be standing because it’s a ghost on the piano. You can’t sit for that.

September 28, 2018 @ 7:59 AM

I'm not first, but guess what. I don't fricken care. Anyway, my Indians lost. My Jose isn't hitting home runs anymore. That's no good. Well, football sunday. Hopefully my Browns, Ravens, and Cardinals all win. The water is going off today at 9:00 again. It's also going off again on Tuesday morning. It sucks. It's no good, and they will probably shut it off more times. It's awful. More and more water shutdowns is no good.

September 28, 2018 @ 8:00 AM

And please don't forget Cheryl your Habs power play needs some work.

September 28, 2018 @ 8:07 AM

Still going on from the retrontario segment, I really loved the - what's the first news story you actually remember from growing up. So interesting to hear what others say. Makes me feel old when I hear someone say - The first Iraqi war (1991). Interesting more with people from my era - Watergate, Iran Hostage crisis and of course numerous John Lennon deaths.

September 28, 2018 @ 8:12 AM

Joey Wasaga

Whoopee, still first even tho I just finished a long hot shower.

September 28, 2018 @ 8:44 AM

The first news story I remember is the Reagan shooting. The thing I remember the most is my mother yelling at the TV, "But what about Brady? How is Brady?"

The next one would be the Falklands war. I would listen to the radio and report back to my parents. Of course I am not sure they needed or appreciated my reporting.

If Cheryl's ever stalked/harassed (God forbid) in real life, I'm definitely claiming the Crimestoppers reward.

Happy Friday all!

I havent had time to listen to the retontarion podcast yet but going to soon.

My first Big news story's that came into my consciousness are either the war in Vietnam or the Moon landings and of course the Leafs winning in 67!, I also vaguely remember Trudeau mania of all things. We watched the news every day at dinner time though so i saw a lot of news.

September 28, 2018 @ 9:45 AM

Is Crimestoppers even still a going concern at this point? Remember, nobody likes a snitch, least
of all the perpetrator of a nasty crime!! At least based on certain tracks from rappers such as Scarface,
Lil Wayne, and Master P!!!

On an unrelated matter, thank you to mdoucette77 for his kind words yesterday in last week's
Open Mikes thread. I couldn't write back yesterday as I was having those dreaded technical
snafus on TPL's wonky computers again. Plus, I try to limit the # of times I ask TM to post for

Sadly, TPL's computers system are so messed up, there probably aren't enough coins in your couch or car cup holder to get the proverbial job half done!! However, you might consider starting up a GoFudgeMe(!) page on TPL's behalf in order to install some Glade Plug-Ins in all their downtown branches, for very obvious reasons!! Sportsnet replaced Joe Bowen, who I loved, with Paul Romanuk - who I liked but a lot less than Bowen. Now they've replaced Romanuk John Barlett, who I like even less than Romanuk. What are they doing? Bowen never should have been taken off weekday Leafs games in the first place.

Now, they've announced Bob Cole will be announcing a limited schedule of 10 games this year as he gets pushed out into retirement. From all indications in interviews Cole's given recently, this seems like it wasn't his choice.

Leafs fans had a great thing going a few years ago with Bowen and Cole doing the Leafs games. I miss those days. Mismanagement and not listening to the fans has gotten us to where we are now.

September 28, 2018 @ 10:18 AM

With the Municipal election soon to be upon us, I am curious to know how people will be choosing which candidate they will vote for. Don't care who you vote for ... more interested in the how you choose part. Particularly for Council and School Board Trustee. Most lawn signs? Connection to candidate? Reco from a media source? Name (brand) recognition? Eeny, meeny at the ballot box?

I ask as I am struggling to figure this out myself.

September 28, 2018 @ 10:26 AM

The Bob Cole retirement is definitely forced. Rogers wants him out, and he doesn't want to go yet, so they're making it happen.

I'm just sorry it's 10 regular season games in the first half of the season. I'd like to see him go out after calling a Maple Leafs playoff series. In my opinion, he's the best hockey announcer alive today.

September 28, 2018 @ 10:36 AM

Rob J

The musical chairs in the local hockey booth is small potatoes compared to the fiasco in LA. For the fifth consecutive year, the channel that airs Dodger games is only available on one cable/satellite outlet in the LA market due to a dispute over fees. A majority of fans have missed all those seasons with no end to the dispute in sight. Imagine Bell satellite not providing the Sportsnet family of channels or Rogers cable with out the TSN group.

Potential book recommendation for anyone looking for some interesting fiction to read: "The Saturday Night Ghost Club" by Craig Davidson is a great book set in the late 1980s in the Niagara
Falls area and it is almost like some kind of dream combo of the best of Judy Blume and Stephen
King (More Stand By Me than The Shining, LOL!!). A few years ago I read this author's previous
non-fiction book called "Precious Cargo" about his year driving a school bus for special needs
kids and really enjoyed it, so placing a hold at TPL for his latest tome was an absolute no-brainer.
I can totally see this being turned into a movie of some sort.

I apologize to Al the Royal Pain because I had in my notes for Colin James to give The Royal Pains a shoutout and somehow I missed this and I feel terrible.

Would a shoutout with Andy Kim be okay?

September 28, 2018 @ 10:56 AM

Rob J

Thankfully it doesn't affect me living in Ontario! I subscribe to MLB.TV where the games are readily available. I was showing empathy for my fellow fans caught up in the ridiculousness.

September 28, 2018 @ 11:20 AM

@bsmntdwllr73, thanks for the recommendation! Placed a hold on the hard cover and OverDrive.. Never read "Precious Cargo" but did hear interviews with the author about it!

September 28, 2018 @ 11:35 AM

Al The Royal Pain

@Toronto Mike now that I know your plan was to get Mr. James to shoutout the Pains, I'm upset, and you should feel terrible...;)

Honestly though, his interview was great. I still own those first couple of albums on CD as well as the Little Big Band album. I don't listen to them much anymore, because I rarely listen to CDs anymore, but the songs brought back a lot of great memories when you played them during the show. Why'd You Lie is probably my favourite. It was definitely my favourite of his videos.

And yes...any shoutout from anyone on your show would be awesome...

Glad drive clean is going, as we have a 1999 honda crv with close to 400K kms and it has never failed.
One of the realises I read mentioned clamping down on heavy equipment etc. My neighbor drove one the land scrapers in the new subdivisions and he used 100's of litres of fuel a day a mentioned the smoke from his equipment somedays made him ill.
Fellow car guys new how to change the tunes in their car to get it to pass, then they would just reload the performance tune after. Almost like advertising where the speed traps are so you don't get caught.

I'd personally be lost without my various boomboxes, Discmans &tape recorders, As much
as I love Youtube for allowing me to access a myriad of musical worlds with the click of the
mouse, I doubt that I will ever be able to break my hardcore addiction to the physical medium.
I've invested far too much time, money and listening hours over the past four decades in that
regard to ever change. Besides, I no longer have the coin required to continue buying new CDs
and the options for doing show are pretty meagre anyways. Still waiting for Malcolm Gladwell
to personally send me a certificate for passing my 10,000 hours of musical listening (well beyond
that, frankly) at this point!!!

What a great (now highly-ironic) lyric line, from out of the once almighty ink-stained quill of Mr. Taupin! I needed a laugh today, so thanks for that most timely reminder!!

September 28, 2018 @ 3:50 PM

H.o.E's great comment has inspired me to start going down an Elton john rabbit hole on Youtube.
First song I queued up was "Breaking Down The Barriers" from the long-forgotten 1981 album
"The Fox." Back in the day even EJ's commercial duds always had it musically going on. Fantastic
track from a widely-slept on period of his career. "Fascist Faces" from the same platter is another
great hidden track. Please note that during this period EJ was also working with other lyricists aside
from the great Bernie Taupin. I always regret that I never managed to see him in his prime, or during
those sporadic periods where his set lists were loaded with more than his top 20 commercially
successful songs, but that's pretty well the way of the world for all the heritage acts these days, isn't

Very surprised at the lack of professionalism from 640AM in the way they handled letting go guest commentaries Sue Ann Levy and Lou Schizas. Letting them go is their prerogative but PLEASE have some class dealing with people. Did they let Cam go as well. In 2018 and would have expected more from a major corporation like Corus. Obviously some manager with not an ounce of decency ordered this. Revenge is best served cold.

The "White Rabbit" Marty Balin passed away today, co founder of Jefferson Airplane also writing Somebody To Love with Grace Slick.

RIP Marty your predominance was Woodstock.

Somebody to Love

"Somebody to Love"
"Somebody to Love" (originally titled "Someone to Love") is a rock song that was written by Darby Slick. It was originally recorded by The Great Society, and later by Jefferson Airplane."
Somebody to Love
Composed by Darby Slick
Originally titled "Someone To Love" when the former Grace Wing's brother-in-law and bandmate, Darby Slick of The Great Society, penned it for that band, it became the break-through hit for the Jefferson Airplane when re-titled "Somebody To Love" going Top 5 in May of 1967.

September 29, 2018 @ 12:06 AM

Yes, RIP Marty. I remember that song Somebody to Love. My Indians won again last night. It was a slugfest. Homers by Jason Kipnis and Josh Donaldson. My Orioles and Diamondbacks lost again though. Well, my Habs are only playing preseason games. Just wait until the season actually starts. Habs all the way as well as my Coyotes will do great. They didn't turn the water off after all yesterday. They canceled it. I filled a big jug full of water along with my sink just in case it would be off longer than expected. It was 9:00 and the water didn't go off. Finally, a letter came from the property manager that said the shutdown was canceled. Now they're going to shut it down longer on Tuesday. They were only going to shut it down on Tuesday morning, but now it's going to be all day long. The manager says that he hopes next week will be calmer, but who knows.

September 29, 2018 @ 7:22 AM

Javed Jafri

The two signature songs by Jefferson Airplane were originally performed by the Great Society and Grace Slick. She was not on the first JA album called the Jefferson Airplane Takes Off, they had another female singer at the time named Signe Anderson. Marty Balin however had perhaps the most memorable song off that first album called "It's No Secret."

September 29, 2018 @ 9:56 AM

Javed Jafri

I should also add that the signature song by the Jefferson Starship, ( as they made the Fleetwood Mac like transition to pop-rock), Miracles was a Marty Balin tune.

That's before the group de-evolved into just the Starship with songs like We Built This City, a far cry from the beauty and experimentation of the early Jefferson Airplane.

September 29, 2018 @ 10:15 AM

@Javed Jafri
I still really enjoy the 1970's incarnation of Jefferson Starship, especially Craig Chaquico's exemplary
guitar work. Quite commercial compared to some of their earlier Airplane work, but a great sound

September 29, 2018 @ 10:20 AM

So it’s 2pm on Saturday and the Sportsnet website still doesn’t have one word about the Argos game in Calgary Friday night. If you search the scoreboard you’ll find the result.
I realize that TSN is all things CFL but gee, you would think that Sportsnet would have had something.
Just another very sad addition to the list of ‘who cares’ about the CFL in Toronto.

September 29, 2018 @ 2:13 PM

Javed Jafri

You may be aware that the first Jefferson Starship album was actually a duo side project by Grace Click and the JA's Paul Kantner. The album "Blows Against the Empire" may be dismissed as hippy dippy utopian counter-culture. I heard it played quite a bit by WPHD FM ( and somewhat less by CHUM FM) and liked it then as a teenager and like it now and it's my fave J Starship album even though it was not a band project as such...and those hippy dippy ideas and the need for a reckoning still ring true today as was made abundantly clear if you watched any of the coverage of the Brett Kavanaugh judicial hearings this past week especially on Thursday.

September 29, 2018 @ 3:47 PM

@Javed Jafri
I'm aware of this album but I haven't actually heard it. I guess I have some homework to do!!

September 29, 2018 @ 4:11 PM

Javed Jafri

I just looked up the official credits on Blows Against The Empire and it was released as being by Paul Kantner and The Jefferson Starship. Grace slick as well as other members of the Airplane were on it as were other friends such as David Crosby and Jerry Garcia. Was a concept album and had a theme similar to CSN's Wooden Ships.

September 29, 2018 @ 4:26 PM

My Indians lost. That's no good, but finally and I mean finally my Jose hit a home run after such a long home run doubt. Anyway, that was no good. My Indians blew it. My Orioles lost as well, but my Diamondbacks won. I hope football is good today. I need my Browns, Cardinals, and Ravens to win today. Tuesday will be awful. They're shutting off all the fricken water. That's no good. They canceled Friday and they have to have a longer shutdown on Tuesday, and who knows how many more shutdowns there will be.

I know the Simpsons had jumped the shark a very long time ago but that said it was still very strange that when I checked out the season premiere tonight it was on City as opposed to Global. Feels a bit wrong even though both City and Global are nothing what they used to be so the switch shouldn't matter in the end.

September 30, 2018 @ 8:59 PM

CFTO made an uncharacteristically appropriate late schedule change to show that Flintstones episode immediately before the 1986 Indy 500, which I remember was on a Saturday after being rained out the previous weekend.

- The Raiders got their first win of the season today, needing overtime to beat another mediocre team. BTW, not that there's any realistic chance of it happening, but if that turd-hued team from Cleveland was to win the Super Bowl, I do not want any of that cake. Would the victory party be at this place ?

My Browns should have won yesterday. This makes me mad. They lost it. That's no good. The stupid refs lost that game. My Browns should have won. The refs were so stupid. My Cardinals also blew it and lost. That was no good. My Ravens did win though. That was great. My Ravens play my Browns next Sunday. My Indians won. That's great. They play again on Friday, but the idiots who make up the schedule said nothing about the time. They'll probably wait until late Thursday night to announce the time of the game. Why can't they announce it now? Anyway, tomorrow they're shutting off the water. 9:00 tomorrow morning until who knows when there will be no water. It sucks. They don't know what they're doing. The whole fricken building will be without water.

Feel like I need to announce that I have no investments, emotional, financial, sporty or otherwise,
in any sports team or individual athletic achievements. Hate to think what would happen if I
were ever unable to pay up when any hypothetical sports gambling debts came due and the
coffers/wallet were totally bare?!? I just wouldn't be able to live with the guilt, shame or broken
limbs!!! Starting to think that Mondays might be a little financially tight for some folks on here!

Glad you were able to sign-up for the EJ pre-sale! Also happy that I was able to ease your mind
vis-a-vis my unfortunate 'joke misfire' of several weeks past and the subsequent Henry Kissinger-
endorsed peace treaty process!! Now if only I could somehow accomplish such miracles in real life!!

October 1, 2018 @ 9:32 AM

bsmntdwllr73 - I found you each had genuine points, and I could see why both of you reacted the way you did. and some time away from the situation and you both aired your grievances maturely :) my kinda wrap up. I would love to see him again, my financial picture for 2019 is looking dry, so we will see!

I love the Raptors, but my only money spent on them is maybe game tickers, OR merchandise purchase lol. I am no Pro Line gal. In fact, I often wonder at the people I see cashing out their LottoMax tickets and other stuff; if they put that $ in savings it would grow much quicker! :p

October 1, 2018 @ 9:43 AM

It would seem to me that a lot of the people who are hard core Pro Line fanatics are those who
might be the ones who can afford it the least, same goes with the lottery die-hards. The custodial
staff of most shopping mall food courts are some of the biggest scratch ticket enthusiasts I have
ever seen. Kind of makes sense given how they are largely ignored for their service and the
gross manner in which many people don't dispose of their garbage or return their trays. I
bought a couple of $2 lottery tickets as a teenager, received two free ones in return for my
efforts and then retired a winner. I find life to be too much of an unlucky lottery already to
invest my unearned government cheese in unlikely pipe dreams. Good luck to those who think
otherwise!! P.S., I haven't been to a paid concert in almost two and a half years (Hall and Oates
in the summer of 2016 and it was a birthday gift, so it probably doesn't count!!). Too pricey and
too populated for my personal liking!!!

October 1, 2018 @ 9:56 AM

bsmntdwllr73 - i love the casino but there is a reason i am not there every weekend. i know i would go broke trying to win some unattainable prize. i don't make enough to live that dream. i think the hope of winning big keeps so many people going back, and addictive tendencies don't help either. i feel you on the food court workers, people are so gross to them, it isn't hard to tidy up before you leave the tray!

I did Hall and Oates in 2016 too with my mom!! What a great show. I am surprised they aren't letting people pay a small fee to livestream from the comfort of their homes. I hope Elton does a BlueRay or digital download of his favourite tour stop in the next couple of years!!

October 1, 2018 @ 11:17 AM

Sad news: Blues legend Otis Rush passed away on Saturday at the age of 83, Very influential to
generations of musicians, and best-known for songs such as "I Can't Quit You Baby", "Groaning
the Blues" and "All Your Love (I Miss Loving)." R.I.P.

October 1, 2018 @ 4:32 PM

Of course, the first two songs listed above were actually written by the late, great Willie Dixon!!

October 1, 2018 @ 4:35 PM

Before the EJ show the screens were advertising something called Peex for downloading audio of concerts, though it appears they cost $20 each.
And it seems this alleged "farewell" tour keeps going into 2021, so who knows, maybe there could be even more here after the two next year?

October 1, 2018 @ 5:27 PM

EJ - saw him 3 times in his prime & was the best but!!!! Final Tour?
Just like The Who final tour in early 2000's & then again, again & again. Tours are for the $ as they get older & older.

@Dale, The Who's first farewell tour was in 1982. I went to the show at Exhibition Stadium (my first concert!), and was ticked when they added two more shows at Maple Leaf Gardens that December, because it meant I didn't get to see the last Toronto show.

Pretty sure that the meanings of both "farewell" and "goodbye" no longer have any real meaning
or relevance with regards to the music industry. KISS are supposedly undertaking their "End of
the Road" tour next year, nearly nineteen years after the start of their first FAREWELL tour!!
Hard rockers The Scorpions have also been on an indefinite farewell tour for years and even
Motley Crue, who swore they were done, have recently recorded some new music for the
soundtrack to their upcoming bio flick. Won't be long before they announce that they will
also be doing one more for their fan(!!). P.S., Frank Zappa was so right all those years ago:
"They are all only in it for the money!!!"

I'm definitely the one and only bsmntdwllr73. Ain't nobody crazy or desperate enough to ever
want to take the place of this downtrodden Mother Nature's Stunned!! No verified blue checkmark
needed to support this most unnecessary verification process!!!

Yeesh. Because of habit and interest, I've been a daily purchaser of the Toronto Sun for at least 25 years, lining up at convenience stores behind seniors buying cigarettes and lottery tickets with my hard-earned coinage. However today the weekday price went from $1.60 to $2.10! (I live outside the GTA). This may be the end of a personal era, or I may just buy it on the weekends. Does anyone else buy a daily paper?

October 2, 2018 @ 12:27 PM

@Rob J
I sued to score a free Toronto Star at the Reference library, but unless you are there when the
doors open, the chances of getting one are rather slim! It's a real riot to see all the Saturday New In Homes and Wheels sections scattered amongst the library's downstairs quad, as I guess its core demographic doesn't have much need or ability to pay for such comforts (housing and automotive). Come to think of it, I don't really either!! What a complete waste of paper, though!! Supposedly these sections still provide a lot of advertising dollars, so it is no surprise that these features haven't been shifted totally online. Mickey D's used to be a convenient location to pickup some key T.O. Star
sections, but those days appear to be largely over. As for the Toronto Sun, in the GTA it is sometimes
available at Pizza Pizza and Pizzaville, but usually not the Sunday edition. Darn! Deprived of a printed
version of Steve Simmons sports literary gold (no joke, the man is a local Larry King!!). Not that
any of this typed rambling helps you much. Sorry!!!

October 2, 2018 @ 12:45 PM

Just realized that Elton John is not performing "Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word" on his current
and probably indefinite latest retirement tour. Might be a good thing, as most of those high notes
would be beyond inaccessible to him at this point. Probably the same reason that "Harmony" has
long been retired to the rafters as well. Both tracks are definitely in my all-time EJ Top 12, especially
the former. Can't beat that magical musical combination of accordion and vibes!!

October 2, 2018 @ 12:55 PM

Quick correction in my second last comment's first line: "used", not "sued"!! Don't think that anyone has ever sued for a free copy of a newspaper!!! Especially not during this very confusing digital
era (for me, at least!!).

October 2, 2018 @ 1:02 PM

Mike, I know you've mentioned that it's been difficult to get folks from Indie88 to come on your podcast. Have you similar issues with the Evanov group of stations?

Z1035 (my favourite station growing up) has had many of the same broadcasters for years or even decades (Tony Monaco, Scot Fox, Matt Wreggit, DJ Danny D, Mike Devine etc.).

I'd love to hear a deep-dive with some of the folks who really made dance/EDM a staple on radio in the Toronto area throughout the 90s and 2000s.

I actually haven't asked any Evanov Group people, so I don't know. I'd be happy to have someone from Z103 on, but I simply don't know the people. Someone would have to broker this deal. :)

October 2, 2018 @ 6:50 PM

Well, I accidentally typed a k after my name and everyone gives me a hard time about it. Well, the water went off yesterday. There was no water from after 9:00 until some time close to 4:00. I hate water shutdowns. The property manager emailed me and said there will be a lot more in the near future. That's no good. Well, my Habs open up against the Leafs. Habs will win. Habs and Coyotes to the finals. My Indians don't play until Friday. My Indians will win the World Series though. Of course they will.

October 3, 2018 @ 7:26 AM

bsmntdwllr73 - Sir Elton did almost 3 hours of music, the 24 songs he must love the most after all this time. He didn't do the two you mentioned, or Nikita, Little Jeannie OR Sacrifice (I love Sacrifice) .

I wish I could farewell tour my life away to be honest! I'd see Elton again next year no questions asked.

Rob J - I don't buy a daily, my mom and her husband get the Globe and Mail on weekend delivery. I usually was on the Toronto Star website for general news and the comics - but I don't know if I wanna pay $15-20 a month plus tax for it. It sucks cause I did read the site for general knowledge, so I may cave.

October 3, 2018 @ 9:08 AM

Google COMICS KINGDOM and you should be able to find most of the comic strips that you
enjoy online for free. As for your comment about wishing that you could musically farewell tour
your life away, regrettably, my life is a lot more like the unmusical version of that little-known sea
shanty HOTEL CALIFORNIA!! You know, I can check out but I can never leave. A real-life groundhog
dazed of the highest and weakest order!!!!!!!!! P.S., Little Jeanie is a great track but EJ hasn't performed that tune live since the year 2000 (I looked it up. Got lots of time on these hands, alas!).

October 3, 2018 @ 9:16 AM

- I forgot about Comics Kingdom, thank you. If they start charging for the comics, I am gone LOL.
I used to make a joke about Hotel California when people would ask for directions in my building (which is attached to the hospital) but I've dropped it, cause no one gets the reference and in actuality no one wants to be stuck here :/

18 years with no Little Jeanie?! Sigh. Guess it won't change in year 19 LOL

October 3, 2018 @ 9:53 AM

The best part about Comics Kingdom is the snarky comments posted under most of the long-term
narrative strips, i.e., the Amazing Spider-Man. A lot of online comics hiding under clever pseudonyms
on there (Look Ma, I've finally found my people!!). As for Hotel California, I'm sure that the version
sung about by The Eagles was a hell of a lot more fun, interesting, happening and immoral than
the real-life Bizarro version I unfortunately find myself living in. Probably good practice for my
inevitable residence in a CAMH-adjacent facility in the not-too-distant-future!! Well, it will certainly
beat living under the Gardiner Expressway (at least before it is one day partially dismantled!!!).

October 3, 2018 @ 10:00 AM

bsmntdwllr73 - always sending you positive vibes. the hospital is not all sunshine and lollipops either.

The comments are the best, especially on Mary Worth haha!

October 3, 2018 @ 2:53 PM

Not a regular reader of Mary Worth, but 'her' strip certainly gets roasted in the comment sections
of various other strips on a near-daily basis, same with another ancient strip called Mark Trail.
Thanks for your continued sending of positive vibes, every little bit helps! Wish all people on here
were as friendly and supportive!! (Most certainly are, but it only takes one self-styled Wisenheimer
to poison my particular fruit punch!!!) #Thin-SkinnedYETPleasantlyChunky!, a.k.a, Ready for the
Thanksgiving Slaughterhouse!!

October 3, 2018 @ 4:41 PM

bsmntdwllr73 - always willing to send positive vibes, i think sometimes it's hard for people to see you speak about yourself in a disparaging way, but we all come to learn that it's your style.

I read 4 comics - between friends, sally forth, retail and six chixs - mary was too dull for me ;)
will you be seeing your sweetheart for thanksgiving?

October 3, 2018 @ 4:48 PM

Legendary music engineer and producer Geoff Emerick died yesterday at the age of 72. A longtime
Beatles and later solo Paul Mcartney associate, not to mention Elvis Costello, Cheap Trick, Ultravox and numerous others. R.I.P.

October 3, 2018 @ 4:48 PM

Unfortunately (for me), My Sweetie will be spending Thanksgiving Monday with both sets of parents up in Collingwood, after working all weekend (her usual schedule). I've only met her father and step-mother a couple of times so it really isn't an issue. However, I'm sure that I will presumably be included in her clans' Christmas get-together at the home of one of her younger brothers. Being Jewish, Thanksgiving really wasn't a holiday that my immediate family celebrated. The Jewish harvest festival of Sukkott recently concluded, and that is more 'our' version of a harvest festival, Not that I've celebrated that holiday in decades either!!

As for the self-deprecation, it is a major coping mechanism and it would probably come off a lot
funnier in person (I hope!!) Without my sense of humour and frequent self-recriminations,
I would have undoubtedly checked into CAMH a long time ago. No laughing matter, that one.

October 3, 2018 @ 4:57 PM

Rob J

I had a complete and utter breakdown in 2014 which led to losing my career, community standing...basically my entire way of life. Was hospitalized 4 separate times. I'm envious of your self-deprecation and ability to be so incredibly honest! I feel a connection with you and your situation and hope you continue to be well.

October 3, 2018 @ 5:23 PM

@Rob J
Thanks for your honest disclosure and words of support. That is one of the best things of being
a regular poster on here. Trying to find a sense of community is hard enough without throwing
in difficult subjects like the Spectrum and/or mood disorder. Wasn't properly diagnosed until the
age of 36 and then was basically told good luck with that, go watch the Big Bang Theory and root
for Sheldon!! Didn't help, as I was already watching and calling B.S., and labeling the producers aws
cowards for not putting an obvious diagnosis to the character. It's called the Spectrum for a
reason!! Currently inching closer to 45 and a half and although I've made great strides in the
past dozen years or so, most days it hardly feels like enough. Still a hell of long way to go as far
as public awareness is concerned, especially with Spectrum folks over the age of 18. But the
same could be said for plenty of other conditions, both mental and physical. Good luck and
continued progress to you as well.

Thank you, sir. Ironically, it was during my initial recovery that I somehow stumbled into the TM Universe and binged on dozens of his archived podcast episodes during my sudden time-off. I'm glad to have met him, you, Elvis, and many others, at least digitally!

October 3, 2018 @ 6:00 PM

@ Rob J, I get the Star, Globe and mail, and the Sun delivered. I only purchase the Sunday Sun, but my delivery lady( who does all 3 papers) comps me the other 6 days. I find other than Lorrie Goldstein, and Donatos cartoons, there isn't much to read. But if I want to buy a car or Camper RV, thete is a ton ofadvertising

Are you excited about the "Venom" movie? I don't care if it's a pile of trash, I'm more amazed that a movie about the character actually got made. Seems like a perfect Thanksgiving long weekend movie.

Maybe it's the 1990s kid in me, but I loved Venom from the Spider-man animated series in the 1990s to the Separation Anxiety videogame on the Sega Genesis, I remember going with my parents to the Hairy Tarantula on Yonge to see if they had the Venom comics all the time.

Very few comic characters typify the 1990s like Venom!

October 3, 2018 @ 10:20 PM

I'm mad. My Habs lost. This sucks. Never mind. They have lots more games left. Next is at the Penguins. Carey Price is going to be back to his great self. Well, tonight I have my Coyotes at the Stars. Coyotes will win. Then tomorrow my Indians will play.

October 4, 2018 @ 5:06 AM

bsmntdwllr73 - aw, well i am glad you have Christmas together. It's so hard to find balance in the holidays to see everyone. My boss is Jewish, he takes time off for Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah, but nothing else. I was raised Catholic, so ummm, we gave thanks a few times a year haha! But nothing compares to Thanksgiving for me. I am glad that you have found a coping method, and only wish the best for you always!

Rob J - thanks for sharing with us.

October 4, 2018 @ 9:47 AM

Nice to make your digital acquaintance as well, Sir!!

@Urooj Islam
My hardcore fanboy friend saw an advance screening of Venom last night
and enjoyed because he had low expectations going in. I'm not entirely convinced
myself, as it seems like some bizarre mash-up of the "Lethal Protector" story arc and
some of the origin details from the Ultimate Spiderman version of the character.
Perhaps one day this saga will be presented properly, with nods to both the original
Secret Wars, the Sin Eater saga and subsequent 1st Amazing Spider-Man run, but I
doubt it. Gonna break out my Venom Underoos for the occasion (homemade!!). TMI!!!!

try to make the least sour lemonade I can with my particular batch of somewhat
bitter lemons!! Holding out hope that one day (soon?!?) I will finally find the chance
to prove my worth, if only for myself. There has to have been a point to all of this,
don't you think?!?

October 4, 2018 @ 10:00 AM

What's your idea Mike ?

October 4, 2018 @ 10:32 AM

bsmntdwllr73 - I hope there is a point too!!!

October 4, 2018 @ 11:48 AM

You and Me both!! I'd like to think that one day my proverbial ship will come in, even if it is only the
size of one of the pieces from a game of Battleship!!

October 4, 2018 @ 6:12 PM

Rick C in Oakville

@bsmntdwllr73, I have a sign that states" I hope my ship comes in before my dock rots"

October 4, 2018 @ 7:43 PM

bsmntdwllr73 - yupp, i keep hoping for my future husband to show up and let me know he is ready to roll (one of the ships i wanna sail on :p) lmao! hope you find all the battleship pieces

Rick C in Oakville - word, i kinda dig that.

October 4, 2018 @ 10:08 PM

Do you have a barbecue with a rusty hole in the bottom?
Waiting For My Ship
That looks like The Thousand Islands, and I think the Bouchard brothers are from the NY state side.
One of the comments says it sounds like a big muppet singing -- I think it was called 'Sweetums' according to wikipedia (not to be confused with the nefarious "high-fructose corn syrup" company from the sitcom Park & Recreation).

October 5, 2018 @ 9:14 AM

@Rick C in Oakville
Great sign slogan!! Sadly, I'm pretty much already rotted, at least psychologically!!!

I hope your potential husband shows up with an entire armada of classy yachts for you to enjoy!!
As for Battleship, is that game even available anymore? Kind of more of a throwback fan of the
board game Life, as playing it has always been the nearest approximation of the real thing for
me to experience (sorta kidding, sort of!!!).

Nice B.O.C.-adjacent music selection link!!!
