Oh goodie, I'm first!
-adding some extra words for you to practice!

August 10, 2018 @ 7:57 AM

I don't know what those words mean. I guess you beat me to it. My Indians won. They won in a walkoff again. Well, they're winning. My Orioles lost though and my Diamondbacks had the day off. Well, getting closer to the party. The first Saturday after the World Series. It's Indians and Diamondbacks. Chief Wahoo cake. It's going to be specially made. It's going to be so wonderful.

There's no shame in being #2.

And for the record, I am shaking my head in great disappointment that you're serving a Chief Wahoo cake. There is shame in that.

I do have some questions for TJ Connors

I had read somewhere that Scruff wasn't really around for TJ when growing up. I'm just wondering, did TJ grow up listening to his dad? Did he have any idea that his dad was a radio legend?
Did TJ pick the name Connors in honor of his dad?

What was TJ's favorit radio prank of his dad's?

It's September 12 from 6pm to 9pm at 30 Queen Elizabeth Blvd. That's very close to Royal York and Queensway, down the street from the Costco.

I brought my two little ones for the first couple of hours at the last one. So you can bring kids! No swears in my speech. :)

Premier Ford - I think most rational people would see your actions of limiting press questions and trying to drown them out with clapping as a man with no answers or no plans. Hope that is not the case. But, if I was in the press pool covering you, I would hack, cough and snort loudly while you were speaking, just to show how immature your actions are.

@bsmnteflkasdjflk;a7359569 (man your handle is way too hard to type)

What's funny is that in 100 years the space people of the future will be amazed at how we put up with sports names like the Indians or Chiefs, kind of like in 2018 we are amazed there were "colored" water fountains , and slavery in the US wasn't even that that long ago ... and of course, slavery still exists in certain parts of the planet today. And I predict a very slow growing movement towards the time we will no longer eat actual meat. I'll never give it up in my lifetime completely, but I must admit to pangs of guilt when i watch videos on reddit of humans and cows snuggling in a field. Maybe we can just lick them for a wee bit of flava instead of ingesting the whole damn thing..

Today I was amazed by a Hebsy story about a Leafs game in the mid-to-late 80s that wasn't televised anywhere.

August 10, 2018 @ 11:02 AM

@Ryan G
Sorry!! Kinda thinkin' 'bout changing it to SpectrumPilgrim3791 in honour of some other fine
folks who changed their names: Sean Combs, Ron Artest, Johnny Cougar (sort of). Nothing is
definitive as of yet. As for the rest of your comment, made perfect sense until the part regarding
the licking of animals for just a 'wee bit of flava' instead of that whole slaughtering them for
our mindless consumption (my words, not yours!) routine. Like that great Motown song's
fantastic title chorus "AIN'T NOTHING LIKE THE REAL THING, (baby!)". With partial apologies
to any vegans or vegetarians reading this!!

August 10, 2018 @ 11:04 AM

LOL I was hoping you'd forgotten to post it, thank you for the free press!

FW - I am single, but I don't know if I coming to the event. If I did go I would just be in my regular clothes however :p

August 10, 2018 @ 11:16 AM

Ryan G

@Toronto Mike - on a similar note, it freaks me out a smidge when i see NHL game footage from the 50's or whatever when goalie's didn't wear masks. I realize the game was much slower then and the puck stayed on the ice a lot more but wtf'ngf.

@bsmntdwllr73 - with online naming conventions, the struggle is real. I play a verrry addictive online game called Tanki Online, and my name there is Donkeyface8 because it was the first thing that came to my mind when I signed up. I could've been just Donkeyface because nobody else had that handle, but adding the 8 suggests there are others afflicted with my same condition. And no, I don't really have the face of a's more like a hybrid of a kangaroo with a splash of Steve Buscemi

August 10, 2018 @ 11:24 AM

@Ryan G
In my case, I came up with that handle as a joke in the basement of the Toronto Reference Library
a couple of summers ago. A combination of my meagre living conditions (crappy basement of a
rooming house in which I didn't realize it was one for about 6 years. That is, until I saw the license,
and my most glorious year of birth: 1973, Year of the Ox!!). As I am no sane person's idea of a fully or even partially-functional middle-aged human being, I think that it is a great name for all my online activities. To date, this blog is my only online activity, other than email. Sadly, virtual life is just as
much of a struggle (for me) as the dreary drudgery of my feeble reality.

August 10, 2018 @ 11:31 AM

Ryan G

@bsmntdwllr73 - is it one of those rooming houses owned by a slumlord that is full of maniacs? If so, watch your step. There are plenty of those types in my neck of the woods, and i learned recently that in one of them not too far from my house, a guy was murdered a few years back. I've walked by it a couple of times to check it out and there's a stray cat hanging around it/lives there, and it occurs to me that the cat has it's shit more together than the quasi vagabonds who live inside it. Cleaner too.

@Ryan G.
My night-time dwelling space is indeed a physical wreck but I haven't had any serious altercations
in nearly 8 years of 'residency' there. A lot of the wackos have died-off, been forced out for a variety
of reasons, or have maybe even cleaned-up their acts. I previously lived in mid-town Toronto (Yonge-
and Davisville for nearly 20 years, so a lot of 'culture' (what culture, I don't live in Liberty Village!!) shock took place at first. Still catch myself humming Blue Rodeo's "What Am I Doing Here(?)" more
often than not!! Too long a story and probably better-suited for some kinda GoFundMe/GoFriendMe

I chime in when someone suggests to someone else they have to appear somewhere because it causes someone anxiety and if I have the power to type a few words and alleviate someone's anxiety, I'll do it.

August 10, 2018 @ 2:15 PM

No, perfectly understandable. Urooj Islam had me at the suggestion of those delicious-sounding
cupcakes, regardless of whether or not the subject of their decorative icing is no longer politically
correct. My point, poorly constructed, was that such joshing is probably best-suited for elsewhere, as
it will undoubtedly spark that certain someone's anxiety. Believe me, I've got my Malcolm Gladwell-approved, 10,000 hours of practice certificate on that front (and then some!!) in spades!!!

Have I ever become soft. Growing up without air conditioning was a right of passage in our Scarborough neighbourhood, and my Scottish descended father didn't put it in until he was about 65 years old, and the kids were long gone.
I have always had air conditioning, car, office, and home. Just spent 4 days at my sisters cottage (I had to sleep in a loft to give preference to my wife and daughter) which was almost 3 stories up. Sweated all night, and headed for the lake at 7 am every morning to cool off. I am ashamed to admit at night I was wishing I was in my climate controlled environment. Daytime though, all those thoughts went away, as the water was refreshing, and I had 4 days with many members of my family.

Also wanted to comment, that Mike has definitely a diverse audience when it comes to age judging from jj's Caribana outfit.

August 10, 2018 @ 2:50 PM

There definitely were Leaf games that were not televised as recently as the early 1980s. I remember when I was in high school and went to a weeknight game in March (I think probably 1982) against Chicago when Rick Vaive scored 4 goals to get to 49 for the season, breaking the Leaf record at the time. I think there wasn't even any video highlights of it on local TV news and sports because it wasn't televised.

August 10, 2018 @ 4:09 PM

This particular Leafs game that wasn't televised anywhere was in 1987. Leafs vs. Blues in St. Louis. The story is told in today's episode of Hebsy on Sports.

Sportsline had highlights because they paid a St. Louis cameraman to shoot it just for them.

August 10, 2018 @ 8:25 PM

Thoughts for a Friday:

I predicted Taveras signing with the Leafs before July 1st & did & also Mark Hunter either goes back to London Knights or becomes GM for the Habs. He's back with London. A loss for the Habs since he played there for a few years & better than current GM.
Tulo & Josh will never ever play another game for the Jays as their importance to the team is nothing now.
3 more weeks until Labour Day & kiddies back to school. A local Dept. store already putting up XMAS stuff. Commercialism or what? It's still summer.
Where I live we need RAIN & lots of it as we got nothing during Tuesdays storm in TO.
Why does every sports channel following the PGA Golf ALWAYS, ALWAYS show TIger as the main golfer. 10-12 years ago maybe but now, he is a has been with trying to get back into the swing of things. Just like Milos, what has he done lately as Daniel Shapavelov has taken away Milos's shine.

Have a great weekend ALL

It hit 40C / 105F today, and I managed TWO walks on the trails at 40 minutes each. I take the heat very well and I stay hydrated. I will admit to being in my cool, AC'd basement office at the moment. My Lovely is not quite as welcoming to the heat. Cranky would be an understatement.

I do remember that Leafs/Blues game not being televised and there was a bit of a kerfuffle about it back then.

@TO Mike. I'm delighted you're giving Hebsy the podcast time. The show has found its rhythm and I enjoy listening to both of you go back and forth. Spot on about the Jays being a mess. Joe Biagini makes me cringe every time he goes out as it is a guaranteed run or two against, but this team in general is poor with very little heart or hustle. I don't like the "Fire the manager" credo but with all due respect to Gibbons, it is time for a change at the end of the season.

I got my Blind Dave handle from a derogatory comment made about me behind my back. A co-worker told me and I laughed and thought it would be a brilliant online handle. It suits me to a tee!

Oh, and PC I am not, but only when I need to be. Then I am, but otherwise, no.

My Indians lost last night. It was close 1 to 0. They couldn't get any runs. \That's no good. My Orioles and Diamondbacks also lost. Anyway, not a good baseball night. I'm not ordering Chief Wahoo cupcakes for your event on September 12. There will be a Chief Wahoo cake for the first Saturday after the World Series. It will be specially made. My Orioles and Diamondbacks lost again though. That's no good. Well, I'm having a Superbowl party as well. That will be great because I know the Ravens, Cardinals, or Browns will be in the Superbowl. That will be wonderful.

August 12, 2018 @ 7:56 AM

Very far in advance, I know, but what will be on the menu for your 2019 Superbowl Party,
a.k.a., The Big Game? Just in case any litigious law firms are randomly scoping out seemingly
random kick-ass blogs for NFL trademark infringement!!

August 12, 2018 @ 1:50 PM

So not to cause any unnecessary anxiety, my prior comment's referral to NFL trademark-
infringement refers to the use of the term "S-Bowl" and not the notion of the party itself.
Wasn't familiar with this issue at all prior to episode #366 of Toronto Mike'd with T>J.

In Columbus Ohio for a few days, and reading an interesting article in the local paper. The State is converting two closed malls into two different test concepts, which on the surface sounds like some forward thinking.

One is a State and County run and funded day care center for low income citizens. The rule is the parent(s) must hold a full time job to qualify for the program.

The second is a State and County run Homeless and Addiction center with social and medical services. Apparently, Ohio has quite a problem with Opioid addiction.

August 13, 2018 @ 10:20 AM

Dr. Seymour Light - Those sound really interesting and useful. But I wonder if low income families have a parent with a full time job? The opioid crisis is so scary, I am glad they're doing something about it for their residents.

August 13, 2018 @ 10:45 AM

Pakrdale is known for a lot of things, both good and bad. I have a negative attitude about it 'cause too many of my experiences in this neighbourhood haven't been very positive, but one thing is definitely
for certain: it is most deserving of a dedicated emoji or twelve!! The most obvious suggestions I can
think of are spoiled mattresses and/or discarded couches, as the local streets are teeming with such
broken 'treasures' every garbage day!! If those two suggestions aren't literal enough, then perhaps
a giant bedbug or two would be a more sufficient alternative? Perhaps I should take this matter up with my local councilor the next time I'm at the Parkdale library branch (say, tomorrow?). My other more controversial choice would be for some kind of emoji to honour the local LCBO outlet, probably
tied with Dollarama, Timmies and the 'Compassion Clinic' for most popular spots in da hood!

August 13, 2018 @ 2:43 PM

bsmntdwllr73 - i dated a dude who lived in Parkdale, I cannot recall the street though.

his building was terrible :/ he claimed he was going to not pay rent in protest, i don't know if he ever did. i did have a nice sushi dinner down there, and some good Caribbean food, and i have partied there a few times - at parts and labour which is there or on the outskirts?

i hope the city makes a sincere effort to help the area.

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

I was born in Parkdale.

August 13, 2018 @ 3:03 PM

I don't mean to always be so negative regarding Parkdale but I didn't end up there because it was my chosen location. Having what is regarded by many as one of the more invisible disabilities, ASD (Asperger's Syndrome), it has been my experience that my advanced vocabulary and total sobriety have always put me at an unfortunate disadvantage when it comes to accessing the best social assistance services. Sure, many will scoff and disagree, but they presumably haven't walked even a block in my shoes. There is a lot more I could say on this subject matter but this is far too friendly a place for me to get into all of that at this point in time!!

Parts and Labour is down the street from my hovel, but I can't say that I have partied there
or anywhere else in 'my hood.' Not what you'd call a party person in the least! Frankly, I'd
rather be in a remote corner of a library situated above Yonge and Eglinton. To dream the impossible dream!!! P.S., not a fan of sushi, either. Not that that really means anything!

August 13, 2018 @ 5:41 PM

Your comments are understanding mostly & sometimes not.
Initially I thought who is this person writing subliminal text & was p!$$ed & then realized your concept of writing overall. Read between your lines & I see it.
You should be an author.

My Indians won again. That's great. They won. My Jose hit another home run. He has to get ahead of JD Martinez. He just has to because my Jose is the best. I love him so much. He's coming to my party. It's going to be such an awesome party. It will be so good to see mmy Jose there. He will cut the cake, the Chief Wahoo cake. My Diamondbacks lost though. Come on Diamondbacks. You're going to the World Series with my Indians. Please don't slump so much.

August 14, 2018 @ 6:50 AM

bsmntdwllr73 - the area itself is not always friendly, but i think it has a lot to do with how the city treats it, along with some of its residents. i just wanted to say it isn't all bad. i love libraries too - the malvern one is really good - it's my home branch.

i love sushi, i am pretty sure we had sushi there... definitely the roti spot was good too!! better than the food we ate when we went to other places in the city - my love for parts and labour is 50/50 - the first time i went it was so good, the second time not so much :/ and i can say i really don't like any of the dudes who have taken me to Parkdale anymore LOL. But no issues with the place itself :P

August 14, 2018 @ 9:09 AM

Thanks for getting it! Sometimes I know that my musings/rantings can
appear to be more than a little bit extreme/obscure/obtuse,but there
definitely is a method to my somewhat calculated madness! As for
being an author, while it is something that I have long considered, I doubt
that I have the pre-requisite discipline or motivation required. Although, you'd
think a life spent in total obscurity on the cut-rate margins would be more than
enough inspiration, no?!?

In the radio threads with all those allegedly different people repeating the same one or two complaints over and over again, isn't it also a strange coincidence how so many of them make the same juvenile, drama queen-like move of showing up here to make the "I'm leaving" type of announcement? (The "You've just lost a listener" type of thing.)
If it really is different people, how is it possible that they all have the same strange misconception that by posting here they are somehow directly communicating with a nebulous unspecified "they" who run the radio stations, and/or somehow think it matters to any of the rest of us?
Particularly now with the nearly endless amount of entertainment options available to everyone, how could anyone be so strangely obsessed with disliking a particular one of them, when most of us don't have time for the few we like best? I'm no psychologist, but something ain't quite right there.

15 years ago today 2 significant things happened in my life.
I moved my late mother into a nursing home (B4) the power went off with anxiety on her part.
Just as I was leaving to go back to work the power went out. Got back to work & 1 hr later everyone was sent home. Being a supervisor at the time I was told to be back 6-7AM if the power is still out next day.
Got there at 5AM, power was still out & us supers & mgrs. had to call all of our workers at 7AM not to come in from 1 landline phone that was still working (through corporate in US). Got home around noon & our power at home was still out. 1 grocery store in Bolton was still open (Garden Foods) working on generators & were selling each case of water (24) for $10 & other items 2-3X usual prices as I found out the next day. I've not been there since, the bastards.

@Twins, I just heard this today. 2003 was a lousy year for Toronto, Sars, and Power outage.
I was at my sisters cottage where power outages are common, but then her husband called and said it was absolute chaos in Toronto, took him 6-7 hrs to get from Yonge and Eglinton to Kingston Road and Eglinton. Wold have been faster if he walked.
The next morning @5 am I headed into Bancroft with 2 debit cards and took out the maximum of $400 cash each from the TD Green machine under back up power , as who carries cash anymore. If anyone now tells me about the digital wallet and the cashless society, I go on my little rant of the cottage apocolypse.
Funny thing, my home in Oakville didn't lose power at all and the Esso up the street had power and pumped fuel until empty. My inlaws 3 blocks away didn't get power for 3 days. The grid works in mysterious ways.

Holy shit dude what happened to Paul Romanuk? Did he get canned or leave on his own? That's really shitty. I enjoyed his calls. Sucks to see someone lose their job too. Anyone else out at Sportsnet?

August 14, 2018 @ 9:48 PM

Holy shit. Terry Fox run. I guess I should donate to it, but it won't be very much. I don't have a lot of money. Good thing the baker for the Chief Wahoo cake won't charge very much. My Indians won last night. That's great. Corey Kluber pitched a gem. Another homer by my Jose. My Jose is really going to cut the cake at my party. It's going to be so awesome. My Orioles also won and my Diamondbacks also won.

August 15, 2018 @ 7:16 AM

I tried to donate. I can't donate. I got everything filled and this stupid capcha did it. The thing about I'm not a robot. Makes me so angry. I hate capchas. I really really hate them. Terry Fox was disabled. If he found out his web site is not accessible, he would turn in his grave. Come on, Mike. Complain to the people who made the site and get them to get rid of that last thing at the end. Do it.

August 15, 2018 @ 7:42 AM

Hmmm, that's weird, I didn't get the captcha. Isn't there an audio captcha with it though? There should be a link that says "get an audio challenge", click that, listen to the words/numbers and enter whatever you hear.

Had a pretty serious bike-on-bike collision Monday night, so I'm sort of just coming up for air. Was x-rayed for broken ribs and a broken pinky, and luckily only the pinky is broken. It still feels like I went ten rounds with Mike Tyson. I'm banged up, as they say.

But I wanted to comment on the news that Simmons leaked out yesterday about Paul Romanuk being removed from Sportsnet Hockey coverage. I know he was a polarizing game caller, and many Leafs fans loved to hate him, but I always liked the way he called a game. I thought he was great. I'm guessing his removal is tied to the rapid rise of Rick Ball, who does have a Dan Shulman-esque timbre to his voice.

Also, it seems Darren Millard quit Sportsnet for a gig with the Vegas Golden Knights.

Keith Hampshire visits this morning. Yes, I'll play OK Blue Jays and get the complete story.

August 15, 2018 @ 8:14 AM

Jason from Sudbury

@Mike: Sorry to hear that, glad you're ok though.

So Millard got a gig with VGK. I wonder what he's doing.

August 15, 2018 @ 8:22 AM

Jason from Sudbury

Mike you should try to get Keith's daughter Laura on too. She was doing mornings here in Sudbury and I used to listen to her and Terry once in a while. Shitty music for the most part but I thought her and Terry were great together.

August 15, 2018 @ 8:24 AM

Damn Mike, Glad you're ok also. May I ask how a bike on bike collision happened?

Did a bike pull out in front of another?

Please tell me, did you swear when you broke your pinky? Are you still able to pinkyswear with your other hand?

I like Paul calling games. Sad to see him go.

I have a question from Laura!

I'm pretty sure Millard will be a part of the VGK broadcast crew.

I was riding west on the Martin Goodman Trail... heading home at around 8:30pm. It was dusky, so I had my full lighting system on. Front and back.

Seemingly out of nowhere a cyclist heading east veered into my lane and struck me before I could brake. Possibly he was swerving to avoid a pedestrian that had wandered in his path. This was near the Roncesvalles bridge.

I took the brunt of the hit over my heart. I'm not sure what hit me. I went over the handlebars and ended up landing on my back. I always wear a helmet, but my head never hit the ground.

The wind was knocked out of me, so I needed a moment to make sure nothing was broken. Many people, including the cyclist who hit me, asked me if I was okay. I quickly realized I was more or less okay. Lots of scrapes and bruises, and two bloody hands, but I could walk. I got my bike out of the path and found my phone lying there too. I think my phone flew out of my pocket while I was mid-air and that might have saved it because I landed hard on my thigh and that phone would have been smashed methinks. The phone was fine!

Once I collected myself, and told the witnesses I was okay, I realized my bike might be fuct. I put the chain back on, and was totally shocked to see it was fully functional. Somehow the frame (and me) absorbed the hit.

So I slowly rode home, cleaned myself up in the shower, put on polysporin and dressed the wounds, and tried to sleep it off. The pain was so intense in my chest that I couldn't sleep, nor could I actually take a deep breath without wincing. So I went to the emergency room for x-rays. Was told time was going to heal these wounds and to just take Tylenol for the pain. The pinky is chipped, but there's not much you can do for that. The doc suggested I tape my pinky to the next finger at night to protect it.

Yesterday, I didn't do much. I was licking my wounds, and pretty zonked from spending core sleeping hours at the hospital.

All in all it could have been so much worse. I'm really just banged up.

August 15, 2018 @ 8:42 AM

Smile, hug your kids and be thankfully that is wasn't far worse.

Did you at least get an apology from the person?

Look at the positives. While you convalesce and rest up, you can wear the same T-Shirt for a weeks worth of pictures and we'll all be none the wiser because that's what usually happens anyways.

August 15, 2018 @ 9:07 AM

Maybe we can get Cheryl's cake maker to do you up a real nice one with you and your crashed bike made out of fondant.

The guy who hit me looked very sorry and concerned, and once I told him I was okay he bolted.

I'm currently wearing my Terry Fox shirt from '07 (hint, hint) which you'll see in the Keith Hampshire pic.

TM - glad you're ok!

August 15, 2018 @ 9:50 AM

Sorry to hear about your bike mishap, glad that your injuries weren't more serious.
Your reference to Mike Tyson instantly brought that kitschy Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff track
to my mind. So thanks for that!! Wishing you a speedy recovery.

August 15, 2018 @ 9:50 AM

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

So much cheesy rap from those two back in the day!

I always think of Mike Tyson's Punch Out, which I loved.

Thanks! I'll be glad when I can breath without pain again. The toughest part of all this is shutting it down... turns out I'm a rather active guy!

August 15, 2018 @ 9:53 AM

Well, Will Smith;s track for the 2018 World Cup didn't exactly get much traction, so perhaps
a comeback with DJ Jazzy Jeff might be highly advisable? It's not like the world is waiting with
bated breath for a follow-up to his copper-certified(!) single "Switch!!!" P.s., I hope we'll be
hearing a little bit or, better yet, all of "Daytime, Night-Time", in today's episode!

August 15, 2018 @ 9:59 AM

Glad U R OK Mike. Probably no biking for a time. Rest easy.

August 15, 2018 @ 10:04 AM

I used to avoid the Martin Goodman trail after dusk due to that exact reason until I bought a giant fuck-off bright LED headlight to illuminate the trail. There are completely unlit patches, and fucking numbskulls with no lighting whatsoever. I found it so unnerving to have them whiz by in the opposite direction, unseen in the dark, feeling like one could slam into me at any moment.

Glad you're okay, and hope the pinky heals good as new. I'm still rocking a forever-busted index finger courtesy of that truck door in the bike lane.

August 15, 2018 @ 10:15 AM

TM - oh yeah you are totally super active, hopefully the healing process is speedy!

markosaar - it sounded to me like the other cyclist was not as well illuminated. sorry about your index finger, but glad you're a-ok otherwise. i drove down a stretch of the 404 on sunday morning, and there was very little lighting and it reminded me of being in Trinidad driving at night, and I freaked out in my car :/ so I can only imagine biking under similar conditions.

August 15, 2018 @ 11:38 AM

Steve Perry from Journey will be releasing his first solo album in 24(!) years called "Traces" in
early October. The first single is called "No Erasin'" and it kinda left me feeling rather musically
flaccid after hearing it for the first time. Dude will be 70 next year, so obviously his voice has
changed dramatically, but not really sure where new music from such a legacy artist possibly
fits in 2018? The sad truth is that it probably doesn't. Not when that so-called Journey mothership
clone band is making major cheddar on its joint summer tour with Def Leppard!

August 15, 2018 @ 1:05 PM

bsmntdwllr73 - funny you should say that it won't fit in the landscape of 2018. I read an interview with Billy Joel, and he said he told Sir Elton to stop making music - because his music would no longer be relevant/popular/appealing. Billy hasn't released any new music since 1993 or something? So sometimes I think people should take Billy's advice (although I obviously love some of Sir Elton's newer stuff)

August 15, 2018 @ 2:19 PM

Elton's songwriting with B. Taupin is still strong but vocally he just doesn't cut it (sorry
to harp on that one!!) As for B. Joel, for a long time he was my absolute favourite artist
in any genre, but his solo catalogue consists of only 13 studio album (including his classical
release), compared to Elton's career total of nearly 40 studio albums, so it would have been
nice to have heard some more from him.) Didn't really care for three of the four albums made
by B. Joel during the C. Brinkley period. 'cept for "The Bridge" from 1986. I've seen him three times,
but the first time in 1986 was the best.

August 15, 2018 @ 2:27 PM

Just curious, whatever became of the once-tweeted about interview with David Clayton-Thomas?
Hope he didn't ghost you a la Mr. Lunatic Fringe!!

August 15, 2018 @ 3:05 PM

Speaking of cancer charity events, the poster for this one gave me a laugh.

August 15, 2018 @ 5:49 PM

I just searched and saw TorontoMike's post from 2010 when RJDio died, and it mentioned his "attachment to demonic imagery".
But before Heaven and Hell, and prior to his medieval themes in Blackmore's Rainbow, he actually did bouncy happy piano songs in his band Elf. On YouTube you can find Elf songs like L.A.59, Black Swampy Water, Carolina County Ball, Liberty Road, and a video with an animated frog singing in his voice for a Roger Glover song called Butterfly Ball.

August 15, 2018 @ 6:12 PM

bsmntdwllr73 - i feel you, i don't think i will be hearing Elton sound that great - but to see him is amazing!!!

I can see why you'd want more from Billy - 40 albums from Elton - yeesh!!! I have a lot of listening to do before September.... I love River of Dreams, cannot say I know too much about him otherwise. I have a random enjoyment of mostly random musicians' singles, not whole albums haha.

Honestly I got this thing about answering a question, but my speech software couldn't read the question, so it was a capcha. There was no audio challenge. Let me know after you talk to the people. There should at least be a phone number so I can call in my donation. Websites are frustrating at times. Well, my Indians did it again. They almost lost. Melky Cabrera hit a home run. That's great. Too bad it wasn't my Jose though. Well, my Orioles lost another one. That's no good. Well, I am glad you're okay, Mike. Just remember to talk to those Terry Fox people. Say that they should at least have a phone number to call if they don't want to get rid of the capcha.

August 16, 2018 @ 6:52 AM

Thanks for the laugh via that link to the memorial Ronnie James Dio charity bowlathon!! Most
ludicrous use of this man (even if it is for a good cause) since his cartoon likeness was used as
the music for the school dance in that ancient South Park episode ("Hooked On Monkey Fonics",
season 3). Really hoping that long-promised RDJ hologram tour makes its way up here!! Maybe they
could relaunch the Planetarium for that one?!?

Most people these days don't have time to listen to complete albums, so you probably don't have
to worry 'bout cramming in all those 'superfluous' EJ albums before his upcoming gig! 80 to 90% of
the concert will consist of songs recorded between 1969 and 1976, with a "Lion King" song or two
and a few latter day tracks just to make him see current. P.s., you're dodging a bullet in that you
won't have to hear the dreaded performance of a complete latter-day album, which is something
he was infamous for in the early Aughts. Understandable why he'd choose to do that, but a real
head-scratcher for the fans simply coming for his golden era of hits.

August 16, 2018 @ 9:31 AM

@Mike, can't find the Terry Fox link.. can you re-post it?

August 16, 2018 @ 9:32 AM

LieveFamke - he has it at the top of the page :-)!

bsmntdwllr73 - phew! i am going to just listen to his latest greatest hits album, and then hope for the best!! i am seeing miguel next week and i haven't listened to his latest album either :/

August 16, 2018 @ 10:23 AM

@jj, geez I totally missed that! Thanks! :)

August 16, 2018 @ 10:31 AM

I'm sure that Elton will deliver a musically top-notch show!! And yes, that latest GH album will
make for a most definitive primer for that night!

Aretha Franklin, R.I.P. RESPECT.

August 16, 2018 @ 10:45 AM

I was at the Elton John/ Billy Joel show in Toronto years ago (Dueling piano tour or something like that?) It was at the ACC. I bought Mrs Beatts and myself $300 tickets. Beautiful seats just outside of Bowmanville.

Great show. I would see Billy Joel again in a heartbeat. Elton was fine, but Billy blew him out of the water. Was more of a showman and actually acted like he wanted to be there. Engaged with the audience the entire show, Elton simply came out, sang and left.

August 16, 2018 @ 11:08 AM

LieveFamke - no worries! :-)

bsmntdwllr73 - i will put him on in a couple weeks, after Aretha and Miguel.

Beatts - LMFAO out in Bowmanville. It's so true, the 300s are so expensive and they don't even give you opera glasses for your viewing pleasure. I am hoping that he gives us a bit more passion at this concert, but glad at least Joel gave you your $'s worth!
