So I'm not first. Oh well. My Cavs lost. This sucks. It really really does. Fricken Warriors. Well, it's Cavs in five or six. Trust me. They'll win it. My Indians won though. That was great. Two homers by Jose Ramirez and Franky Lindor also hit one. They were blowing the Twins away, but then it got close 9 to 8. This new pitcher, Shane Beber was pitching well until the fifth. My Orioles got rained out. My Diamondbacks didn't play. Indians and Diamondbacks are going to the World Series.

(not Cheryl)

ahhhh too slow!

June 1, 2018 @ 8:05 AM

Congratulations Cheryl for finding the open Mike! Mike's had a change of face lately and has not been hiding it from you with the same frequency. He's still a bit of a curmudgeon, but he's been slightly more likable.

Fingers crossed all 14 of your sports teams win with vigor this weekend!

I was rooting for the Cavs.

@ Beatts....By Monday the fav 14 might turn into 16 with 3 changes and if her building Super is voting NDP guess whot?

June 1, 2018 @ 8:43 AM

Yay for Friday and yay for June (the Friday of Summer).

If anyone (who is Canadian) supports Trumps tariffs because they hate Trudeau more then you really need to get your priorities straight. It’s not good for anyone and our Government has tried to deal with Trump but it’s hard to deal with someone who just wants to win a battle where both parties need to be happy. It’s ridiculous. It’s like when Quebec wanted to separate and still collect all the financial support from Canada but not pay taxes. There is no negotiating that. It’s not how it works.

I have already voted for the Provincial election. I have no clue how it will all turn out (except the Liberals will not win). I just know I don’t want to see Doug Ford as our Premier. His lack of a plan is disingenuous. His promises are false and his fear mongering is pathetic. I’m sad to see so many people fall for his “the sky is falling” tactics. He claims jobs are bleeding out of Ontario and yet we have very low unemployment. It’s really easy to fact check.

Anyway…happy Friday and as the new saying goes, be kind. It’s chaos out there.

Dr. Seymour Light

Question for the hivemind......If Christine Elliott was the Leader of the Ontario PC Party, would this have been a slam dunk election for the PC's?

June 1, 2018 @ 9:20 AM

Al The Royal Pain

We're playing in Toronto tomorrow night in Parkdale. Here are the details:

If anyone here is inclined to come out, please introduce yourself. I'd love to meet in person.

June 1, 2018 @ 9:30 AM

For Mike, Retrontario, and anyone else that was a fan of "Hilarious House of Frightenstein":

June 1, 2018 @ 9:47 AM

The Spoons will be opening up for Men Without Hats at the CNE Bandshell on August 20th.
I saw them open up for Alan Frew (Glass Tiger there) two years ago in a torrential downpour and they
blew him off the stage. Once again, I truly believe that the band order should be reversed!!

June 1, 2018 @ 9:51 AM

Also just discovered that Kansas will be performing at the same venue on September 1, even if the
original vocalist (Steve Walsh) has long since left the band. Saw them open for Styx on that band's
last tour with Dennis DeYoung and they also blew the headliner off the stage that night!! It goes
to figure that after a couple of years of so-so programming better acts are being booked and my
cherished ODSP status no longer grants me free entry. For some reason some of the more upwardly
mobile handicapped folks out there made a big stink that they didn't need the handout and so the
rest of us suffer as a result! It's just like that old Spirit of the West Song "D For Democracy", 'cept it
really isn't!!

June 1, 2018 @ 9:57 AM

@Dr Seymour, I believe so 100%

I can't fathom voting for Doug Ford

June 1, 2018 @ 9:59 AM

@ Dr Seymour

I agree with Beatts. While not a guarantee, I would have considered a vote to the PCs if they had a reasonable platform.

June 1, 2018 @ 10:02 AM

Or ANY platform lol

June 1, 2018 @ 10:11 AM

June 1, 2018 @ 10:11 AM

Rick C in Oakville

Christine Elliot definitely would have been a slam dunk, even Patrick Brown.
Still hoping for a PC minority (NDP with balance of power) to keep things calm

June 1, 2018 @ 10:44 AM

Mike Layton (and supposedly some others in his ward) apparently like to complain about an allegedly disturbing level noise that somehow reaches them all the way up at Bloor Street, now from Ontario Place (Echo Beach shows) and (at least in 2016) the Indy race at Exhibition Place, despite a distinct lack of complaints from much closer neighbourhoods like Liberty Village.

Is this a real thing, or is he just (as Daffy Duck would say) Mr. ComplainyPants?
How bad could it really be that far away? And do the shows end by about 11pm anyway? I assume they don't go on all night long. Certainly any on-track activity for the Indy race I can recall usually ends by about 6pm on a Friday or Saturday night, or I suppose possibly another hour or two at most if things get delayed and behind schedule. I've never been able to hear the engines on my way there until I get south of King Street.

June 1, 2018 @ 10:54 AM

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

I fully agree that Christine Elliott as leader of the PC party would have been a slam dunk. For a large segment of the Ontario population (me included), Doug is awfully distasteful. Yes, Wynne is very unpopular, but there is a third option that many have moved to. Personally, I'd love to see the NDP win a minority government. But, I only have one vote, and I realize the odds are the PCs will still win.

But here's hoping.

June 1, 2018 @ 11:27 AM

Raptors Devotee (Brian Gerstein)

Christine Elliott does not have the baggage, other than past election losses, and is not polarizing like Ford is. She would have had a real platform with budget $'s not just as line items and fully accounted for. Unreal how the Conservatives keep finding ways to take a relatively straight path to victory and muck it up. Elliott had more votes in 64 out of the 125 ridings, but the PC party's weighted voting system gave the victory to Ford. The only poll that counts is on election day, and the results are certainly still up in the air, and the only safe thing I can predict is that the Liberal reign has come to an end.

June 1, 2018 @ 11:40 AM

Happy to report that the Burger King at the corner of King and Dufferin has maintained their
switch to a seventies station on their satellite radio service and eliminated that dreaded eighties country mix of the past year or so. Neither format can compare to that brief window in which hard rock and heavy metal were the music of choice at that particular outlet, but nothing truly great ever
lasts very long, does it?!? During today's brief visit I enjoyed the unabridged version of the Moody
Blues' "Nights In White Satin", Elvin Bishop's "Fooled Around and Fell In Love", and the Average
White Band's "Pick Up the Pieces." That perfect music mix really helped make my 10 pack of chicken
nuggets go down that much smoother!! The soda machine situation is still f'ed up though: One is only
able to dispatch ice while the other one dispatches the pop. Guess they can't afford to call a repairman or replace those broke-down diabetes' enablers?!?

June 1, 2018 @ 11:56 AM

@Mike I too hope for a NDP Minority government. I think it will happen

June 1, 2018 @ 11:57 AM

The best case scenario is an NDP minority (based upon the poll numbers).

I'll take Andrea as our Premier over Doug any day of the week. I would take Kathleen over Doug.
Heck, I'd take Jerry Agar over Doug.

June 1, 2018 @ 12:23 PM

James Edgar

Christine Elliott would have gotten my vote. Can't vote for Ford.

June 1, 2018 @ 1:18 PM

I was thinking NDP minority, but then we would probably be back voting the minute they could call another election.

June 1, 2018 @ 1:19 PM

I noticed that briefly a couple of weeks ago when I went in there, but I quickly stuck in earbuds to drown out the elderly homeless guy sitting nearby. I think he was grumbling about me and/or others sitting in his apparently invisibly staked out part of that Burger King.

Kansas -- there's a band I hadn't thought of in decades. That will be just a few days past 40 years since they (well, two of them anyway, not unlike what's left of most classic rock acts) were one of the bands playing at Canada Jam at Mosport to a crowd estimated by some to be well over 100,000 with other bands like Doobie Brothers, Triumph, Prism, (from that show)

and inexplicably The Village People, who had garbage thrown at them.

After seeing the CNE lineup yesterday and looking at wikipedia to see why Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart now tour separately, I'm still trying to get that article out of my head.

You can be multi-millionaire classic rock stars, and yet someone in the family can still marry some guy the rest of them can't stand, who tries to start a fight when he gets annoyed about his trailer door being left open for few seconds (okay, maybe it was a bus, not a trailer). The cranky-old-guy looks like he should be sitting on that ventriloquist's lap with his arms crossed.

June 1, 2018 @ 1:20 PM

I wonder if Nancy Wilson will be bringing along her Roadcase Royale ensemble? That
name certainly wouldn't have the cachet of her former/future(?) group!! I know you
had previously written about the so-called Blood, Sweat Tears date (thanks to Pollstar),
but I don't think any original members are even in the line-up. They should be playing one
of the midway stages! About 7 or so dates are still open at the Bandshell but think that it is
pretty safe to assume that country acts will fill many of those spots. Ugh!!!

June 1, 2018 @ 1:27 PM

I'm actually inclined to vote for the NDP myself. I never imagined I'd actually say that. The Liberals need a time out. As for the PC's, I abhor Ford & I do NOT like the socially conservative aspect of the party. Sex is happening, kids need to know about it. Ontario is a province in decline & it needs a forward visionary versus the same old thing.

And..when I think about all the turmoil in the PC party it makes me wonder what's really going on. This isn't one off shit. Guys even going so far as to admit they don't like their own leader. I used to think the Alberta PC party was rot. It's got nothing on Ontario. And if you think the NDP can't win, well they won a landslide in..Alberta INCLUDING places like Lethbridge.

I hope for a NDP minority.

June 1, 2018 @ 1:33 PM

Also need to ask a medical question. I have to go for colon cancer screening in a few days. It runs in my family and I have a polyp (so I may well have cancer). It's being done in a hospital.

What's the process like? I have to drink this Peglyte stuff the night before to cleanse myself. What's that like? Any experiences shared would be great. I'm less worried about something being shoved up my ass (everyone says my heads been there for years) and more about the cleanse & post scan.

June 1, 2018 @ 1:35 PM

Well, it's not fun. You will have to spend the whole evening sitting on the throne. I've forgotten how much of the stuff I had to drink, but it felt like gallons.
When I went to the clinic the next morning, I didn't know until it was about to happen that it involved being put under general anesthetic, so at least I had no sensation of that part. After I woke up, they told me they removed five polyps. But luckily later they said I would not have to go back for several years.

June 1, 2018 @ 1:46 PM

re: McNulty: "Heck, I'd take Jerry Agar over Doug."

ROTFL .... That's one of the best throwing shade i've seen in quite some time .... Bravo!

June 1, 2018 @ 2:05 PM

I've read that repeatedly that the "cleanse" part is just brutal. I drink 2 liters of this solution and eat nothing the day before but clear liquids and soup. I keep reading how bad it is. #Ugh. I have one polyp that showed up in a scan when I was in Toronto General. The procedure isn't so much the big deal to me as the preparation. You apparently drink 240 ml of solution ever 10 minutes till it's done. Then I'll put my laptop in the bathroom and work in there.

I had a biopsy of my lymph nodes a few months ago while I was in the hospital. I was put under and don't remember much other than initially trying not to gag.

June 1, 2018 @ 2:15 PM

I'm your guy. I'm tested Bi-yearly (I have IBS but our family have a history of crohn's).

Worst part about the whole procedure is taking the medicine. The great news, it is WAY better than it was even 5 years ago. The stuff I used to have to take I told the Doctor I would legit rather drink my own urine then do that again. My Colonoscopy from last year the medicine was the best it's been yet (still not great though). They discovered between 5-10 polyps on me during my last one but it's not a concern for the Doctor so if he finds some in you it may not be anything of concern either.

If you are ok with IV's (I assume you had a ton during you last visit) then it's easy peasy. You'll go out and have a decent sleep. I typically wake up and feel like I've had the best drunk ever. You're head clears within the hour, you'll need someone to give you a lift home and you'll most likely be ravenous hungry.

Then it's back to normal. Unless you don't deal well with anesthesia.

June 1, 2018 @ 3:30 PM

@Irv what you wrote about being inclined to vote NDP is me verbatim. Will be my first time voting for them actually.

June 1, 2018 @ 3:32 PM

Wrong your* on my colonoscopy post. Damn it.

Cheryl's trainer is voting NDP so Beatts is voting NDP.

June 1, 2018 @ 4:20 PM

@Urooj that and Cheryl said she'd show up at Mike's fan appreciation BBQ if we voted NDP so I want to make that happen!

June 1, 2018 @ 4:35 PM

Thanks. I'm taking something called "Peglyte" which I apparently drink the night before as my scope is in the morning in Toronto (a pain getting there). During my last biopsy I came out of it OK though I was a bit tired for the day. Colon cancer is in my family (Mom is a survivor). I have one polyp but she only had one too.

I guess I'm torn between voting for the NDP, a fringe party or just not voting at all. The NDP values don't really align with mine, but I also am *very* sick of politicians who lack integrity and are salesman, cheats and liars. Ultimately I want a minority government. I really wish we'd get proportional representation. This "anti voting" shit pisses me off.

June 1, 2018 @ 4:39 PM

I feel exactly the same during this election. To me this is the worst one on record in terms of choice.

Peglyte is the best you'll get. The nice thing about it is you'll be finished doing your business typically within an hour. You won't be up all night worried about having an accident. That's been my experience with it thus far.

June 1, 2018 @ 4:59 PM

Rick C in Oakville

This election could use some Peglyte, never been more disappointed in the parties and all the BS associated with it.
The first couple of courses of Peglyte are the most surprising, then you are basically prepared.
Truly believe we are ready for a middle of the road party, as our choices just don't reflect this.

June 1, 2018 @ 8:35 PM

Ontario Peglyte Party. We promise to flush out the assholes.

June 1, 2018 @ 10:41 PM

Rick C in Oakville

HA HA Irv, I think your on to something, let us know how the scoping goes.

June 1, 2018 @ 10:56 PM

@Rick C

Hey, I bet if I started the Peglyte Party I'd win. BTW, did you see the new Kathleen Wynne ads on Youtube. It's just a voice and her face looking at you. Then she smiles. It's the facepalm of facepalms of terrible advertising.

In other news I have acquired an air conditioner for my bedroom. This condo has air in the main room (it's like 1500 sq feet) but it doesn't chill the room. I'd forgot how humid it gets here. Let me tell you, once I get me a house I'm having central air. I don't give a fuck how much it costs. 33 C here is WAY hotter than 33C in Vancouver (and it's like 7C in Banff now lol).

June 2, 2018 @ 12:08 AM

Oh yes, I had colonoscopies before. They're not fun to say the least. That stuff is brutal that you have to drink and liquid diet the day before brutal. Being on the thrown a lot is brutal. I never had a general anaesthetic with it though. I did have some sedation. Anyway, it's no fun. Well, my Indians lost last night. That game sucked except Edwin Encarnacion hit another homer. That's great. My Orioles also lost again. That's not good. My Diamondbacks won though big. Lots of homers by Dan Descalso, David Peralta, Jake Lam, and Kevin Marte. Awesome. Well, it will be Cavs in five or six, maybe seven. Trust me. My trainer is not voting NDP. He's voting Liberal. I'm voting Liberal. Well, Indians and Diamondbacks to the World Series.

June 2, 2018 @ 8:08 AM

I think Cheryl is almost certainly more correct than me in using the term "sedation". I just know I was not conscious during the procedure. Now that I think about it, the printed instructions they gave me the week before probably mentioned sedatives being administered, and I dumbly didn't completely understand what it meant. In defense of my mistaken memory, I also had to get a kidney stone removed just a few weeks before then, and I think that did involve anesthetic. BTW, also not fun, but I will avoid going into details.

On a totally different subject, one of Mike's guests from a month ago, Bif Naked, is listed as one of the performers at some thing today just north of the city in Richmond Hill, along with April Wine and others.

Oakville apparently has a musicfest on Aug. 10-11, although I can't find any list of performers yet, apart from the website of 54-40 saying they will be there.

June 2, 2018 @ 10:57 AM

Was supposed to attend that Cosmo Music Fest but my ride apparently had an apartment flooding
situation which obviously takes precedence. Was looking forward to seeing the hard rocking (and
funking) guitarist Richie Kotzen, but oh well!! And as for that Oakville Music Fest in August, when was
the last time 54-40 had a gig that people actually paid to attend? They seem to do a lot of street
festivals and the like! Although they did play the CNE Bandshell in the recent past so I guess that

June 2, 2018 @ 11:04 AM

FWIW, they mention a York Region Transit bus Route 90 that leaves from Don Mills TTC subway station and passes within a short walking distance of the site, if you feel like enduring a public transit trip that would involve multiple subway and bus route changes.
And yeah, April Wine and 54-40 are acts that seem to do a lot of these free festival kind of things over the last 15 years or so. I even remember seeing them both on the same day at least once, I think at the Burlington Waterfront fest.

June 2, 2018 @ 11:31 AM

Yeah, I was aware of that transportation option to the Cosmo Music Event, but ultimately I
didn't feel like taking that trip today. Supposedly 17,000 folks attended last years' event.

June 2, 2018 @ 12:52 PM

That flushing sound we all collectively just heard over the past hour or so was the sound of Kathleen Wynne tearfully conceding that she won't be the Premier of Ontario after June 7th. No surprise there, so i guess it's time to hold my nose and vote NDP. I'm sure Dougie's 1977 camp buddy Diane (ya know, from that ridiculously staged TV campaign ad) is utterly ecstatic over this not entirely unforeseen event! BTW, am I the only one who has repeatedly heard this Diane person claim that it is 42 years since she first met Doug, which she claims it happened in 1977?!? Don't think I'll take voting advice from a gal who can't keep track of time. But didn't Dougie look so nice with his feathery blonde hair in that birthday party photo from back in the day? So dreamy!!!

And with Wynne's concession speech earlier today, many Liberal loyalists will say "My enemy's enemy is my friend" and vote orange. Here's hoping!

June 2, 2018 @ 1:35 PM

Never missed any election since the age of 18 and the only time I didn't vote liberal it was for
David Miller during his mayoral elections. And we all know how that ultimately turned out (and
who and what it all lead to!!) Hopefully saner heads will prevail and we won't get round two of that

You mocking someone else for class is hysterical, as is calling Wynne a liar and then voting for Ford. Twit.

June 2, 2018 @ 6:30 PM

Jody Thornton

I noticed today during Wynne's concession speech one thing that hasn't seemed to cross anyone's radar today. When she citing her concerns with Doug Ford, she identified him by name. When it came mentioning Andrea Horvath, she never mentioned her by name; she only referred to the NDP.

Now if it had just been once, I would have overlooked it, but she consistently referred to the two parties and leaders in this different manner.

Just thought it was interesting

June 2, 2018 @ 8:58 PM

I noticed it immediately after her speech, Doug Ford & the NDP.
Politically incorrect. Only 2 of the 3 stooges left a 1 quit.
This is gonna be a $h!t show Thursday.

I've got to say, making DoFo leader has made this exciting!

Had they chosen Christine Elliott this would have been a foregone conclusion and a rather boring election.

June 2, 2018 @ 9:21 PM

Wynne is simply doing what a politician would do. She effectively just resigned as a hope to give her party a future. Like it or not, that's what a leader *should* do though I'd argue she should have quit years ago.

This election is more a leadership game versus voting for a party. The focus is entirely on the leaders now. The NDP have the advantage because she's the only woman that hasn't had a "bozo moment" though the Toronto Sun tries real hard.

The fucking Ontario PC party could get an H1 Military grade hummer stuck on a dry fucking road. They're breathtaking at fucking things up.

June 2, 2018 @ 9:30 PM

My Indians lost. They really sucked last night. That's no good. My Orioles lost as well. My Diamondbacks won though. Home runs by Paul Goldschmidt and David Peralta. Well, my Diamondbacks and Indians will be in the World Series. Well, my Cavs will win tonight. I said it will be Cavs in five or six, maybe seven. If the refs want to drag it on and on, then it will go seven.

June 3, 2018 @ 8:17 AM

“Didn’t Doug look so nice with his feathery blonde hair. So dreamy”.

HARARARAR. this struck my funny bone. Thanks for that.

Welp I voted in the advanced poll up on the defunct future shop on the queensway. Totally unorganized and rude as hell. I’m pretty sure we are going to see feathery blonde get the position and I will be ashamed of my province.

TLIC shirts are like the old Toronto T's. If you're spotted wearing one at a concert Pete Fowler buys you a beer!

LOTL are always great. Did they close with Rosy and Grey as I always do?

June 3, 2018 @ 12:23 PM

Yes! They packed a lot of music into a one hour set: four from the new album, Concave from Sordid Fiction and six from Shakespeare. And Bankrobber by The Clash for good measure.

June 3, 2018 @ 1:22 PM

Glad you were amused!! There was a clearer picture of a high school-era Doug in a Globe and
Mail article some years back when they alleged that he was a notorious hash dealer in the
early 1980s. He could have been a teen idol, or at least the low-rent, down market Canadian

June 3, 2018 @ 1:38 PM

I saw your tweet about that Big Daddy Kane track and it reminded me that the search for his
whereabouts (basically down to milk cartons at this point!) can finally be called off: He was on S19,
episode #21 ("Guardian") of Law and Order:SVU about a month ago, in which he played a "most
respectable" member of society (NOT!!). Now if only Slick Rick and Biz Markie would surface for
more than a minute, everything would be a-ight!!!

June 3, 2018 @ 2:03 PM

My Cavs lost again. Well, it will go seven games. It really will be Cavs in seven. They'll win tomorrow. My Indians lost. This was a real bummer because Edwin Encarnacion hit two home runs. Fricken Eddie Rosario hit a homer to walk it off. It's awful. I want to cry. At least my Diamondbacks won. My Orioles got rained out. Well, the NBA finals will end on Father's Day. That's when the last game is.

June 4, 2018 @ 7:12 AM

I don't know why they waited until less than a month before it happens, but it has finally been acknowledged that there will be the usual Canada Day tribute band thing at Woodbine Park.

June 4, 2018 @ 8:14 AM

The Cavs-GSW matchup is how it must have felt when Jordan and Kobe dominated - no chance in hell your team would make it to the Finals.

So even though the Raptors mentally could not get over the hurdle of Lebron, even though many other teams did - I am vindicated after the Game 1 mishap by JR Smith, and the missed or reversed call at the end of Game 1. Now LeBron knows how it feels to lose to Cleveland too :)

June 4, 2018 @ 9:15 AM

After I saw a TV ad for a Niagara Falls NY air show, I looked at their website which tells people to park at a nearby mall. Thinking about how busy most GTA malls are on a weekend and wondering how or why they would let it be used for air show spectator parking -- it appears the western NY state economy may not be thriving, since the mall's only two remaining open stores have both said they will closing down in August.,_New_York)

Cosmo Fest is at a Huge Musical Instrument store called Cosmo Music oddly enough. I'd like to go but as mentioned thousands of people show up not just for the Music but for the sales. Apparently people line up a few days before. I was thinking of going to look at a telecaster a few years ago that was on for a really low price but a coworker who also plays guitar clued me in to the crazy crowds and the line ups. I already have problems getting up my nerve to play in a mostly empty store . No way i'll try to check out a guitar in that environment. One of my Facebook friends did go and saw Bif naked and Big wreck , he says their sets were great.

While the widow of Rob Ford might allegedly be under the throes of addiction, this is a separate issue
from the estate of her late husband. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if any of this turns out to be
true. Sadly, the public know all about this family and their various issues/problems, and yet too many
people are willing to overlook Doug's vast shortcomings and less than stellar humanity/lack of
humility. If (and when) the Conservative party win on Thursday, this will be yet another proverbial
example of a misguided mob cutting their collective nose to spite all of our unfortunate faces!!!

Won't matter to probably all who vote for him. Can guarantee that he will make Mike Harris look

To All:
DId you see the artice in the Star today about Rob Fords wife suing DoFo. I totally agree with her as I worked in the printing industry for MANY years & dealt with Deco Labels (a Ford Co.). A few years ago there was situations whereby extra $ was asked for after the contract was signed because of overtime to complete the job. Randy (1 of the brothers) would show up 1-2 weeks later asking for total payment. Deco was losing employees & customers $ & work environment there was terrible.
Rob had a strong part of Deco & if he get's the votes for premier it may be as bad or worse than DJ Trump.

Doug Ford is a miserable human being. Ultimately a minority comes out of this for the cons and then in 18 months we are back to the polls. They have no costed platform it's ridiculous. If the liberals did that the national post would go ballistic.

The other issue with this election is the Facebook group Ontario proud. The amount of outright lies and disinformation being spewed through that group is outrageous. Facebook should be shutting that $&+* down.

At the end of the day, do you want your taxes going up or down? The choice between the PCs and the NDP is stark in that regard.

Make no mistake: the PCs will lower your taxes and the NDP will raise them. If you subscribe to the doctrine that you know how to spend your money far better than the government does, then the PCs are the clear choice. If you also believe that government should be smaller and not ever-expanding, the PCs are also the clear choice. To me, everything else in this campaign is noise.

The PCs and Doug Ford aren't perfect. I'd prefer a fully-costed platform, with proof of how all the promises will be kept. I'm dubious that Ford will be able to fully implement the tax cuts and electricity and gas price cuts he's promising. I'm also highly dubious of his claim that he'll be able to find billions in efficiencies. But I know he'll be able to implement at least *some* of his promises and find *some* efficiencies.

That's good enough for me.

Oh my. So a bunch of "promises" on tax cuts but no costing provided & no explanation of what services\facilities\programs are being affected. Dubious on claims of finding $billions of efficiencies.

Sorry Justin but you see you're being conned & you're still buying it. *sigh*

We saw Doug\Rob at work at the Toronto municipal level. It's not pretty, it's not honest, it's not smart, it's not forward .... it's embarrassing.

My Diamondbacks lost again. They got clobbered by the Giants. It sucks. Why did they have to lose? Well, hopefully my Indians, Orioles, and Diamondbacks win tonight. I told you these finals will end on Father's Day. That's when the last game is. It will go seven games. The refs let the Warriors win the first two. That happened the last series, the Celtics won the first two. These finals won't end until Father's Day. Trust me.

June 5, 2018 @ 7:22 AM

I trust you Cheryl. You've been bang on correct every time so far like cuckoo clock work.

Justin - uhhh, I doubt that Doug will be able to implement anything that will help but a
select few of his friends and family. he is just like Rob, and Rob didn't do much for Toronto on a whole. But it's thanks to your derailed train of thought that we're faced with this crisis.

June 5, 2018 @ 8:17 AM

#Buying the Con

We can at least look back on what Doug did AT the city level. His record is questionable at best just the claims his brother saved the city billions. Show me some tangible proof Doug; you know, the kind I submit to court.

As for the lawsuit from Renata, I suppose one could ask about the timing, but my answer is this. This is Doug's family. How angry do you have to be to sue a member of your family? You have to be angry. So the whole "well she's using it against him"...well so what. That's her choice. Civil lawsuits are messy and expensive. You don't enter them lightly. It's not like you wake up and say "I think I'll sue that guy". Fuck the retainer was likely in the 10's of thousands of dollars.

At the end of the day this woman sounds like she got the short end of the stick. She raised Rob's kids. There are allegations of assault and abuse. She was publicly humiliated. Now she may have been cheated out what should have been hers. She's got every right to sue and if the allegations are correct I hope she buries the fat fuck in a lake of fire.

BTW, how lawsuits work

1. Guilty. You were guilty
2. Settled out of court - You were guilty
3. Not Guilty. You were not guilty.

Pay attention to 2.

Justin is a defender of all things on the right whether it be conservatives or south of the border and republicans. His responses are pretty much canned copies of anything you would hear on a right wing radio propaganda radio show. HIs support for Rob Ford bordered on sycophant and his love of trump appeared eerily too real

June 5, 2018 @ 1:26 PM

@Ben V

There are left wing extremists too though Ben. I have one on my Facebook who is forever posting pro union misinformation. I've chided the guy a few times about it by sending him the facts. Both sides employ "misinformation specialists" which are designed to get out there and fabricate "evidence". The whole Facebook scandal showed us that.

Anyone the espouses or parrots "extremism" is an extremist. It's plain and simple. They are simply the followers versus being the leaders. There isn't much difference just we seem to give a pass in society to the followers (when we shouldn't).

The other thing is that debating such creatures is pointless. There are no Vulcans around. No one in those groups runs on logic. It's fueled entirely by emotion usually combined with anger and an agenda. Evangelicals are extremists on the same level of ISIS, just we seem to give the former a pass because they believe in "our God"

They all need a ride in a police truck if you ask me .

Disgusted with politics and the choices we have been given.
The Conservatives need a reboot, and not the one just handed to us. They had a moderate in Christine Elliot that would have been the best choice going forward.

To shift gears, what does it take for a Union or Civil service to fire one of their members. Police caught stealing, high, drunk, and corrupt, and indefinitely on suspension with pay for 11 years
Wettlaufer, the nurse responsible for the killing of seniors in old age homes she worked in was defended by her Union, even negotiating a $2000.00 payment to send her on her way and a glowing recommendation.

June 5, 2018 @ 11:18 PM

Rob Ford did some great things for the city before he went off the rails, and Trump has *exceeded* expectations to the point where he's been the best President since Reagan. That may seem crazy to other readers, but if you care about what I care about politically (namely small government, low taxes, a thriving economy, a realist foreign policy, strong immigration policies, and anti-political correctness), it's not hard to see why I believe this. I say these things not to troll but because I believe them to be true.

I listened to the Ledrew podcast yesterday (which was fantastic), and one of the things he said that really struck a chord with me was his advocacy of friendly discourse and disagreement. Say your opinion, have away at it, and work through disagreement in a friendly way. Too often nowadays (and the right is just as much to blame for this as the left), someone's personal character is demonized because of their political beliefs. We'd be a better society if that happens less.

June 5, 2018 @ 11:52 PM

friendly discourse

re: Justin: ".. his advocacy of friendly discourse and disagreement. Say your opinion, have away at it, and work through disagreement in a friendly way .."

I agree with the "friendly discourse and disagreement" wholeheartedly Justin.

On the other hand, everything you said about Ford & Trump "greatness", I can't articulate how completely I disagree.

Ford & Trump certainly don't buy into the "friendly discourse and disagreement" concept.

Well, baseball was great last night. My Indians won. Jose Ramirez hit a home run. Corey Kluber pitched a gem. Edwin Encarnacion is player of the week. My Orioles and Diamondbacks won as well. Tonight it's Cavs. Cavs will win. Trust me. It isn't over yet. Remember what happened to the Celtics. They were 2 and 0 in the last series. Nobody can beat the Cleveland Cavaliers in a seven-game series, so on Father's Day, a week from Sunday, it will be all over. It won't end any sooner. Cavs will find a way to win.

June 6, 2018 @ 7:21 AM

It would appear that another great Canadian rock band has decided to sell its collective soul
(sadly, no musical punnery intended!) and try to cash in on some of that outdated (and largely
extinct!!) Nickelback mojo. I'm talking about the almighty Monster Truck from Hamilton. For
the uninitiated, they are a hard rocking combo who combine Chris Cornell-esque vocals with
heavy guitar and sweet B3 organ action. But no more !! Their new track ,"Evoluition" (more like De-evolution: Hi, Devo!!) is a totally derivative and over-polished akin to latter day Nickelback, Theory of
a Dead Man, and Three Days Grace (amongst other guilty offenders!). Their new album due in
September is called "True Rockers," but here's to hoping that title is more than a drunken misplaced
boast! P.S., the Youtube comments regarding this track are quite hilarious!

no way was I suggesting that either Doug or those who vote for him are woefully misunderstood!!!)

June 6, 2018 @ 11:51 AM

bsmntdwllr73 - yes his supporters are understood by those who like and dislike them, alas.

and fyi, I am an immigrant, whose family was able to come in and settle here because there were open immigration policies in place. I cannot fathom why all of a sudden we want to turn our backs on those who need us? we can solve so many things if people really cared about other humans in general.

there really is no way I am genuinely entertaining anyone who votes for DF or votes conservative this time around.

June 6, 2018 @ 11:55 AM

One of the ironies involving the cult of Doug Ford is how many people who aren't from here
originally will be voting for him tomorrow, and that they outright believe his lies, half-truths and totally full of b.s. rhetoric (not sure that he knows what it is or can even spell it!!) It really is unfortunate how he is so able to take advantage of that.

June 6, 2018 @ 12:00 PM

My Cavs lost. Bummer. They blew it. They were winning for a while and then they lose it. My Indians and Orioles won. That's great. My Diamondbacks were winning, but they blew it and lost it in extra innings. Well, I'm going away for a few days leaving later this morning. I have a friend in Ottawa and I'm going to visit him. I'll be back Sunday afternoon some time. I will have internet, but I don't know when I'll be on tomorrow, so I may not be first. I will be around though.

A real opportunity was lost on today's TMI with the lack of the musical inclusion of Spirit of
the West's "D For Democracy!" Although Curtis Mayfield was a very acceptable substitute. Gee,
I sure wish there were some substitute candidates!!! Too soon?!?

And now a few more unsolicited opinions on today's election: Unlike some of the astute folks on here, I lack a personal trainer, financial adviser, racetrack tout, or Colonics technician to tell me which side to vote for, so I had to go with my gut feeling on that. Gut feeling/Colonics, did anyone catch what I did there?!? Anyhoo, I spent all of last night diligently searching for answers in the lyrics of those wizened U.S, musical prophets, Bob Seger and Johnny Cougar, and after much deliberation and humble knee-taking I came to the only logical conclusion. No spoilers here, but I doubt I backed the eventual winner!!!

And finally, how soon into Dougie's inevitable victory (but only for him!!) speech do you think that
he'll become all wistful, look to the sky, point and tearfully proclaim to his, of course, all-seeing
baby bro and proclaim that 'they finally did it?' I'll be sure to stop by the nearest Dollarama
location and stock up on indestructible barf bags for that undoubtedly Kodak-worthy moment!!

June 7, 2018 @ 9:51 AM

Just letting everyone know that I have no plans to leave the city anytime soon and even if I did, I
wouldn't have any Internet to connect to regardless. Although it's not like my absence would be
noticed or even missed!! In any event, I doubt that I will be first in tomorrow's Open Mike section

Parking lot was full & so was the street. Probably going to be the most % of people voting provincially in a long time. I used my head, not my heart. SORRY SYLVIA JONES (PC). Maybe a wasted ballot, but at least I used my democratic right.
Christine Elliot if was leader of PC party would win in a landslide IMO. If the prognosticators are correct Ont. could be in trouble with DOFO. I relate him as a Trump brother.

June 7, 2018 @ 2:15 PM

Re: Conservatives & Ford

I don't think the PC party is that big of a turn off. I think it's their leader that is. The obvious problem with Ford is his persona. Beyond that he espouses the values of fiscal conservatism but his platform is contrary. And beyond that is the support for social conservative values (the sex ed school stuff, etc).

BTW, I was disappointed to see Ontario uses voting machines. I had a short chat about the security risks with the guy taking my voting card (interestingly he was a Muslim guy). Electronic voting is a bad idea.

Any hope of Howard Berger resurrecting his journalistic career died on his "Auston Matthews is easily replaceable" post ...
