Sorry, I got buried... I'll post it in a minute. :)

Sexual deviants dropping like flies daily. There must be some dudes sweating their asses off that haven't been outed yet.

December 1, 2017 @ 10:03 AM

Big politics news in the US today. Flynn is pleading guilty. Likely pled down because of what he knows. Huge.

December 1, 2017 @ 10:06 AM

Head's Up!

Cheryl told us she'd be late. I'm going to sit here and refresh until she chimes in.

December 1, 2017 @ 10:12 AM

Now you understand why women are so reticent to come forward with sexual allegations against someone. I still see guys out there who just shrug it off as nothing.

If you're having trouble understanding what limits are, here's my suggestion. I want you to pretend you are the female. And the males are these guys. Offer a woman space as you'd want these leatherboys to offer to you.

This Trump witch-hunt knows no bounds. It is a politically-driven kangaroo-court investigation. An assault on the American Republic and the voters who democratically elected Trump. For those too blind to see what's really happening, here's the playbook:

-Step 1: Drum up a bunch of media hysteria about supposed Russia ties with zero substantial evidence. (LOL @ how DT Jr sending a couple of DMs to some Russian and Sessions meeting with the Russian ambassador - like dozens of other Senators have - is seen as "evidence").
-Step 2: Launch an "investigation," where rather than investigate actual wrongdoing, they look at everything under the sun for infractions on the basis of technicalities (think Rob Ford almost being removed from office for using the wrong letterhead).
-Step 3: Indict those close to Trump so they fold and give away information on the President, hoping to nab him on some obscure legal technicality
-Step 4: Hope it's enough to remove a democratically-elected President

What's happening in the United States right now is disgusting. This type of stuff should be relegated to third world non-democracies. The deep state is trying to launch a coup against the People. THAT is the real story here.

December 1, 2017 @ 12:10 PM

I agree in theory but he seriously needs to quit twitter,

December 1, 2017 @ 12:36 PM

Oh, Justin. You are good for a laugh.

There could be video evidence of Trump speaking to Putin directly and admitting that he wants the Russians to interfere and you would still say it's a witch hunt.

Two people have pled guilty. That's not a witch hunt. That's evidence. And before you ask for my evidence, I'll defer to the FBI and that they haven't released all of the evidence yet. But I think arguing with you is probably pointless.

December 1, 2017 @ 12:43 PM

The Voice of Reason

Why are you always in the middle of your "group" selfies?

December 1, 2017 @ 12:48 PM

And I thought that was a picture of an obscure German metal band from the mid 1980s.
On second, thought, based on the first dude, probably not!!!

December 1, 2017 @ 12:51 PM

Don't just look at the headlines. Do more reading into what the indictments were for. Flynn essentially pleaded guilty to (under oath) forgetting a conversation he had *AFTER* Trump had already won the Presidency. Stupid yes, collusion no. Manafort was indicted for money laundering and foreign tax evasion schemes, NOTHING at all do with Trump. They were investigated him in the Russia probe and found this other stuff. His indictment had as much to do with collusion as the colour of my shirt does to predicting the weather.

It's not hard to be literate. Read past the sensationalist headlines, look into what's actually happening, and you'll see there's no scintilla of evidence of collusion. If THIS is all the probe can come up with, you know they actually have nothing substantial.

There's a machiavellian kangaroo court happening right before our eyes, where people are being persecuted for political crimes like it's 1930's Poland. A black mark on a proud country's history.

December 1, 2017 @ 1:39 PM

House of Strombo (late to the party) awesome series :) Charles Bradley just touched me :)

You've just gone from defending everything Rob Ford to defending everything Donald Trump. Your modus operandi is crystal clear.

December 1, 2017 @ 1:44 PM

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

I've never been invited to one, even though I'm friendly with so many of the regulars, from Macko Jr. to Tim Thompson to Strombo himself!

December 1, 2017 @ 2:04 PM

Ok, Justin.

No one has ever pled guilty to a lesser charge and then cooperated with the investigation. Both Manafort and Flynn are the type of people that would be told by the FBI they were being charged and then say, "Hey! Ya got me! I'm guilty!"

You'll defend Trump to the end of times because.....reasons. There is no one, with maybe the exception of my children, that I would defend the way you defend your political idols. It's baffling to me.

I used to admire Spacey but I don't anymore in light of who he really is. The same for Ghomesi and Bill Cosby. But I am sure, as you have already shown, disbelieve any accuser of Trump and O'Reilly but pounce on any Weinstein or Spacey accuser and point your finger at them. It's the strangest rationalization I have ever seen. I don't get it.

And yes, Franken should resign. I would expect the same if the accusations were levelled at Trudeau or whomever.
I am sure you also think Roy Moore is a good guy, too.

December 1, 2017 @ 2:06 PM

Rather than attacking my character of my modus operandi, a far better exercise would be looking at the facts and answering pertinent questions.

How does Manafort's money laundering and tax evasion which happened years ago have anything to do with Russia collusion?

How does Flynn misspeaking under oath about a conversation he had with the Russian ambassador after Trump had already won have anything to do with collusion?

What concrete evidence is there to suggest there was active collusion between Trump's campaign and Russia?

Just asking some important questions. When the media has real answers, I'll listen. Up until now, all I've seen is a total poltically-driven witch-hunt.

December 1, 2017 @ 2:16 PM

It's getting mighty (politically) crowded in here again!!

December 1, 2017 @ 2:18 PM

This is a developing story. Give it a little time to breathe and reveal.

This Washington Post article does a good job of explaining why it's very likely that President Trump's former national security adviser and close confidante is now a confidante of an investigation into whether the Trump campaign coordinated with the Russians to meddle in the election.

TBH, I think this Flynn news is pretty massive.

December 1, 2017 @ 2:27 PM

It is, but like that famous Sloan song proclaimed: "It's not the band I hate, it's their fans"(!!)

December 1, 2017 @ 2:29 PM

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

I love that line... and always thought of Hip fans. When I saw the Tragically Hip outdoors, I always put myself as far away from the beer garden as possible. The Hip always attracted this frat boy crowd that I hated.

As for the politics, I guess this is an open mike, so if it's going to spill anywhere, this is the place. As a news item, this could be very interesting. We'll just have to wait and see...

December 1, 2017 @ 2:33 PM

If Flynn turns over serious evidence, I'd be the first to admit I was wrong. But for those salivating over today's news, what they nabbed Flynn for is incredibly minor and un-incriminating. That very same Russian ambassador has spoken with hundreds of Congressmen and government officials over the last few years; Flynn was just stupid enough to either forget or lie about talking to him under oath.

I've seen this story play out before, where Ford was nearly removed from office for the awful crime of using the wrong letterhead to solicit charitable donations. I can't help but feel like they'll unearth some other obscure technicality to try an depose a democratically-elected President. No matter our political affiliation, we should be very weary of this happening.

December 1, 2017 @ 2:35 PM

Totally agree about that classic lyric line. I'm a big metal/hard rock fan but have always avoided those
types of concerts (except for the time I saw Iron Maiden at whatever that Ontario Place venue was
called at the time!!) Also nothing wrong with political discourse, especially in an open mike forum,
just don't like when it turns into an endless back and forth conspiracy type thread. Face it , this
space could be the new home of dejected Gary Bell fan(atics!). Perhaps it is time for a return visit
from Richard Syrett? If I do properly recall, the comments from that episode got a little heated in
more ways than one!!

December 1, 2017 @ 2:39 PM

Ben V

@ Justin: There is a difference between forgetting about a meeting you had 2 years ago and conversations and calls you were making to Russia to tell them to not over react to Obama sanctions in the transition. He plead down, shouldn't see any jail time, but he's cooperating with Mueller there is more to see here. As for Kangaroo court, you would be chomping at the big if Hillary was getting investigated now.

I find it funny Flynn was leading the lock her up chant at the RNC.

Its also interesting when certain people that have posted here or people I come across in my daily life are so adamant about their political cause they make it seem like they know things or read things others haven't. Often insinuating they are more intelligent or can sift through the noise us mere mortals can't.

Justin's remark about not just reading headlines is very similar to things that TVOR and Argie have uttered before. Like that time TVOR showed all of us how bad Hillary Clinton is by posting something from infowars.

I don't remember Justin squawking after Ford was sucking back crack with gangsters. However he focuses on the fact that Ford used the wrong letter head. Which is a conflict of interest when he's using letter head from his own company.

Important fact. Calling something a kangaroo court doesn't make it so.

Question for Justin, what are your thoughts on all the lies Trump spouts everyday? The latest one about the Access Hollywood tape he admitted to being real is suddenly a fake?

December 1, 2017 @ 2:57 PM

Yes, I'm late, and then I almost forgot to post. Well, my Cavs and my Habs both won last night. That was great. Anyway, doctor arrives an hour late, but this is not the only time this has happened. It happened many time. Lots of just waiting around wasting time. Anyway, at least it's over with.

December 1, 2017 @ 2:57 PM

Ben V

@ Justin: Associated press is reporting. As part of a plea deal, former national security adviser Michael Flynn has admitted that a senior member of the Trump transition team directed him to make contact with Russian officials in December 2016.

Remember that time Trump said NO ONE in his team had contact with Russians. yet nearly all of them have had conversations including his sons? Oh and that time he fired Comey for the Russia thing.

Comey's tweet today was next level trolling.

If anyone has a question for Andy Maize from the Skydiggers, let me know!

December 1, 2017 @ 3:43 PM

Skydiggers question: Did they choose to cover "Mr. Soul" on Borrowed Tunes: Into the Black or
were they assigned that particular song? Thanks!

December 1, 2017 @ 3:48 PM

Andy Maize is awesome. Had the pleasure of meeting him at Jackson Triggs a few years ago (beautiful venue, BTW) when he and Josh were playing a set out in the vineyard amphitheatre.

Skydiggers/Andy Maize questions:

- In the list of awesome things the Skydiggers did over their career, where do the Horseshoe Tavern corn roasts rank?

- The 'diggers were part of a pretty vibrant Queen Street music scene. I have fond memories of bands like the Lost Dakotas, Leslie Spit Treeo, Lost and Profound - all great acts that fell off the radar. For every band that emerged from that scene (Skydiggers, Blue Rodeo, etc.) there were several who for whatever reason never made it. can Andy talk about a band or two that were contemporaries of the Skydiggers and either really made an impression or had an influence back then, that didn't make it off Queen Street but coulda/shoulda/woulda gone huge if given the right break?

December 1, 2017 @ 4:38 PM

Mike, this Russia story will go nowhere as far as Trump's Presidency is concerned. People are chasing their tails. The economy is too hot and Congress is too Republican.

So Stephen LeDrew was suspended for 7 days from CP24 for appearing on Fox News Channel. LeDrew told the Toronto Sun that it wasn't because of what he said on FNC it was because he appeared on another network deemed to be the competition. Apparently LeDrew was suspended earlier this year as well albeit for something different. LeDrew says he's been invited back on FNC next week but is undecided whether or not he'll go back on.

The Ryan Goins era has come to an unceremonious end.

His reaction to the Batflip Bomb is one of the more underrated aspects of the moment so it always hurts to lose a key contributor from the 2015-2016 teams that we will look fondly upon for years.

December 1, 2017 @ 9:38 PM

Neil Young concert, I just I would have been there. The best ever Cdn. music talent ever, over The Hip, Shania, Rush, Guess Who, BTO, Bieber. Gordon Lightfoot a close 2nd.
His voice hasn't changed since the 70's & still loves his maiden country Cda. Has done a lot for Farm Aid which he & Willie Nelson started many, many years ago & still growing strong.
Great concert & selection of songs.

I'm totally pissed the Jays dumped Ryan Goins. He was one of my favourite Jays. I'd rather see him play instead of Tulo any day.

December 1, 2017 @ 11:27 PM

Gary M

Renrou, obviously he worked with the Russians. The problem you have is that it makes no difference. He's still the President. He's still passing major tax legislation. He's still annihilating all kinds of Obama era initiatives. And if the economy is anything like it is right now in 2020, we'll have to deal with a second term. No idea what people are hoping to achieve with this Russia blather.

December 2, 2017 @ 2:47 AM

Big sports day today. My Suns play at 1:00. My Nets play at 3:00. My Habs play at 7:00, my Cavs play at 7:30, and my Coyotes play at 8:00. That's great. Lots of sports whereas there was none last night.

December 2, 2017 @ 8:05 AM

Goins just isn't a player worth fretting over. He's a backup infielder whose highest career OPS was .672 and who has had negative WAR the past two seasons even with his defence (which was a little shaky at times in 2017, though should rebound).

But, importantly, he is out of options, and that has been limiting the Jays' roster flexibility. Both Ngoepe and Diaz still have options and can be sent down and brought up as needed. And while Diaz had injury issues last year (a bad hamstring and the lingering effects of a broken thumb from the end of 2016), he has far more upside at the plate than Goins, and is likely to be a more palatable option to fill an everyday role when Travis or Tulo inevitably goes on the DL.

When it come down to it, we're talking about backup middle infielders, so we can only improve so much, but this does strike me as an improvement, if only a marginal one. It doesn't provide us with someone who could step into an everyday role and have me feel they were an asset, but few backups can, and Ryan Goins certainly could not.

December 2, 2017 @ 8:30 AM

Sadly, last night's Neil Young concert was a one-time only streaming event, so I guess I will have to
settle for the inevitable clips that end up on Youtube. Checked out the setlist and it looked great.

Sadly, my "living room" (term used only very loosely!!) would not be big enough to accommodate that
beauty of an image!! Again, I'm probably in the minority, but I saw "Reservoir Dogs" on first day of release and still regard it ahead of "Pulp Fiction" (sorry, i know I'm treading on sacred ground with that opinion!!) Still love "True Romance" as the single-best film with any kind of Tarantino connection attached to it.

I still love that movie.

The local video store owner turned me onto this flick before Pulp Fiction came out. So I was late to the party, but not as late as most people.

This local video store owner would get busted for dealing drugs at some point. He knew his flicks, though.

Wonder if Quentin T. had a drug-dealing sideline while he toiled away in his infamous video store,

@bsmntdwllr73 - Re: the disappearance of video and music stores, and not having the piece of plastic - On a similar subject, other than maybe going to the actual venue at a time when their ticket selling window is open, is there any way to now buy event tickets from Ticketmaster with cash? I think the last time I did that, it was at the outdoor one at Yonge-Dundas Square, probably 3 or more years ago, and it already seemed strange and archaic at the time. Yesterday morning when I saw something interesting listed on Ticketmaster, I also noticed the "Retail Outlets" link near the bottom of the web page, and the thought occurred to me, since I had the cash in my wallet and was about to leave for a mall anyway.
But clicking on the link led only back to the home page, and doing a Google search led me to see a mention from last year on another forum that the remaining retail outlets had apparently been closed, with few people noticing or caring.

December 3, 2017 @ 9:20 AM

@Rick C,

Thanks! Also nice to see a cycling-neutral article in the Sun.

December 3, 2017 @ 1:23 PM

I almost never watch movies (other than documentaries once in a while when there's one of particular interest to me), yet that image looked familiar anyway, so I guess it must have been influential.
In the same way, I never saw Mad Max, but it seemed that every other hard rock music video in the early 1980s was inexplicably set in a "dystopian" or "post-apocalyptic" world where there somehow must have been no shortage of unseen hair stylists and costume designers.

December 3, 2017 @ 1:27 PM

I miss the ritual of lining up at the local Ticketmaster (usually a record store in the mall) at the designated date and time, and knowing the chance of scoring good tickets increased exponentially with the proximity to the front of the line.

December 3, 2017 @ 1:39 PM

I haven't been to a ticketed concert event in a couple of years (I mostly attend free outdoor
events), but one of the main reasons for this is that even if I did have a credit card, it seems like
it is nigh on impossible getting tickets (or at least good ones) online. Indie record stores such as
Rotate This sell tickets for cash but this only applies to club gigs. Sorry I could not be of more

December 3, 2017 @ 2:13 PM

Thanks for that great Blue Coupe video upload!! Always nice to see some Blue Oyster Cult
spin-off music!! Good point on all those post-apocalyptic metal videos of the 1980s as most of
them were totally hilarious: "Kiss-All Hell Breaking Loose" being a particular favourite!! Also,
Motley Crue's videos from "Shout At The Devil", Judas Priest's "Turbo" videos (super-butch Rob
Halford included!!), and, of course, Gwar's entire video oeuvre (with the sound turned way down,
for sure!!!). Best non-metal, "Road Warrior" '80s tribure video would definitely have to be Tom Petty
and the Heartbreakers' "You Got Lucky" from 1982. P.s., Sunrise used to double as a Ticketmaster
venue but doubt that this has continued under the new regime.

Flynn Indictment - I'm hopeful it leads somewhere but won't hold my breath.
As for 2020 the economy may be hot at the moment but if this tax bill becomes law it could send the economy over a cliff. just like the last massive handout to the rich.

Neil Young - totally missed the show :( I here it was amazing.

My rant of the day. We are upgrading our DHCP servers at work to Windows 2016 from Windows 2008 R2. Other that building the basic server images I'm not involved. At least i wasn't until the asshat they brought in to do the upgrade asked me to take a screen shot of all the settings ( Scope ID,Reservations,Options) on our existing DHCP servers to make sure we didn't lose any info. We have over 200 DHCP scopes . so that's about 600 screenshots to get that info. That is Fucking tedious and even more importantly fucking stupid. REALLY FUCKING STUPID. so i ask why are we not using powershell to get this info ? He says that Microsoft told him you can't get it from powershell. I'm not a powershell Guru by any means . I get terribly confused by variables . I can write a very simple script to get info if i need it. It took me all of 5 minutes to get all the basic scope info into a CSV . It has taken longer to get the Reservations and options ( fucking variables !!! and strings too ) but really it took another 10 minutes to get the info and a couple of hours to figure out how to get it into a readable Excel file.At the rate i was going ( I did give the screen shots a try as that were my direct orders from my boss) it would take me until Wednesday this week to get all the screen shots done. Why the fuck do they bring in these guys ?

Yeah that sounds nuts. Probably a sysinternals/technet tool for that at the very least.

@ The Voice of Reason

My guess is that the reason he is not talking about it -- and is, in fact, telling listeners he won't talk about it -- is that he knows his opinion is one that will not go over well. He's old school about many things, and it might be the case that he's got an old-school acceptance about what goes on at a sports radio or TV station.

He'll ride the edge at times, but he's generally smart enough not to go so far as to talk himself out of a job.

I don't do a lot of channel flipping, so it was just by luck that I stumbled on the Carol Burnett Show 50th Anniversary special last night.

Carol Burnett is probably my all-time favourite comedian. I grew up watching the show (mostly in reruns, because it was only on the air until I was 8). I still think it's the best sketch comedy ever to air on TV -- and the "Went with the Wind" sketch is one of the all-time funniest moments.

@bsmntdwllr73 - I've never had trouble getting tickets, online or otherwise, for anything I wanted to see. But I don't care about "good" seats and will accept sitting at the back or in the nosebleeds in whatever the cheapest priced ones are. And the acts I go see aren't exactly hot tickets at the peak of their popularity. For example, I mentioned Blue Coupe above, because of the video. Their last time here was at The Rockpile, with a crowd of maybe 70 people.

-For the people asking about the MLS Cup, well, good luck with that. First of all, it's technically a neutral site game controlled by the league, not TFC/MLSE. There's fewer seats than last year, since the temporary scaffolding ones that were set up (primarily for the Leafs outdoor game) at the south end of the stadium are gone. Apparently even some season ticket holders weren't able to get seats, and most who did had to settle for different seats that weren't as good. It seems a few at a time may become available through the week as league sponsors return ones that may go unused, and TFC ticket reps phone individual subscribers if that happens. Otherwise, if you're just John Q. Public, I doubt you'll see anything available for general sale on Ticketmaster. It shows you a link for their resale site (TicketsNow) where the cheapest seats at the top of the stadium will cost you well over $300 each once they add the service fee.
There is also an outdoor "viewing party" in a parking lot with maybe a $10 ticket charity fee.

December 4, 2017 @ 3:43 PM

Never had the pleasure of going to the Rockpile or other such clubs that book rock/metal bands
of an older vintage. Perhaps I'll try to rectify that in the coming year.

December 4, 2017 @ 4:26 PM

bsmntdwll73 & H.o.E - I just said to a friend I am sick of concerts and scrambling for tickets.

The acts I want to see are as popular now as they ever were - but I'm expected to pay $80 for Shania in nosebleeds?!

I shelled out a lot for John Legend but was close to the stage, and it was at Budwieser Stage. Could never get that close at the ACC - sigh!

December 4, 2017 @ 6:03 PM

Well, my lucky night. I got three wins by my Suns, Nets, and Cavs. This is great. Well, my Habs continue their win streak tonight. The Price is back and the Price is right. My Suns will also win tonight. Yes, they will do that.

December 5, 2017 @ 7:02 AM

One benefit of middling-poverty (and an unlife spent on the extreme fringe!), is that I don't have to worry about ticket-gouging or a lack of tickets because I can't afford to buy any!! However, I do feel
for you and your fellow paid concert-goers and all the hurdles you must overcome in the pursuit of
some reasonably-priced ducats. As for potentially paying $80 for nosebleed-section Shania tickets,
pretty sure that she is just literally dialing-it in at this point (autotune/lip-sync, etc..). Then again, this
is probably the status quo for most pop acts these days. In any case, good luck!!

I've never purchased tickets for me to see a pop act. For my daughter, yes, but never for me.

I did, however, pay $150 for a single nosebleed seat to see GNR in October. It's a band I loved as a teenager but had never seen, and a buddy wanted to go and I thought it might be my last chance to see them with the bulk of the core intact. I'm glad I did.

Normally I would never consider paying that much to see a band at the ACC (unless it's something exceptional, like the farewell tour by my favourite band of all time because their frontman has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.

December 5, 2017 @ 9:51 AM

It's been years since I've paid for an arena or stadium concert. There have been a few shows
that I've considered but the switch to an online-ticketing format is probably more of a deterrent
than any financial hardship (both real and imagined!). Also, most of my favourite music often cosists
of deep album tracks, and unless you attend a particular album tour cycle, your chances of hearing
those songs are often slim.

When album sales dried up (for the 99%), touring became more important for bands to make money from their music. The masses (the non-bsmntdwllr's) want the hits, so bands give 'em the hits.

Green Day has this figured out... long, enthusiastic show with just about everything that even resembled a hit and nothing more.

December 5, 2017 @ 10:06 AM

Totally understand this concept from an economical standpoint, but not from a music-obsessive's
one!! I've never seen Bruce Springsteen and while he usually performs for over 3 hours ( and changes
his setlist up regularly), thanks to Youtube I can pretty well see multiple versions of all of my favourites. Nowhere near as satisfying as the real thing, but at least his 40+ year catalog gets

Speaking of Green Day, I was recently walking on King near Dufferin and heard "Good Riddance
(Time of Your Life)" loudly playing out of a storefront's radio, This song has been featured in many
TV shows and movies, but now that the hits have dried up for the band, am I the only one who has
ever wondered about the following: How 'bout changing the lyrics slightly and licensing the track
for use in the promotion of feminine hygiene products?!?

December 5, 2017 @ 10:17 AM

I've found online ticket buying to be more of an encouragement, certainly when you can choose your own seat, then quickly and easily put it onto a mobile device. I do not miss having to make the trip to some mall or alleyway behind a Yonge Street record store to stand in a line for hours for tickets you may or may not get, maybe for seats they assign to you where you can't see anything except the backs of all the people in front of you standing on their chairs.

In the last 10-20 years, it's been quite common for the "classic" acts to do tours where they play all the songs from one of their biggest albums from when they were in their prime. It's a good way to keep attracting the more ardent fans who may have otherwise grown tired of hearing the same songs at every show for many years, by knowing they'll hear some album tracks they've never (or rarely) heard played live before, and also the more casual fans who know they'll hear the only two or three songs they recognize. Some have also done specifically arranged "fan convention" type of shows with set lists largely or entirely of their rarely/never performed songs.

December 5, 2017 @ 11:36 AM

I know that Dream Theater recently passed through town on a tour revolving around the 25th
anniversary of their "Images and Words" album. Sounded like it was a great show!! These types
of concerts that you described are more along the lines of what I am currently musically interested

December 5, 2017 @ 12:28 PM

H.o.E. - I do love the convenience of online ticket sales. my gripe is the fact that by the time they go on general sale, it's nosebleeds for 80$ and sometimes you can't even get any tickets because now everyone does the presale, then regular sale - the frenzy is insane!

bsmntdwllr73 - i don't know if she'll phone it all in, but i wouldn't be surprised if she uses some lip syncing as she had issues with her voice. i saw britney in Vegas, and it was all lip syncing - made me sad for her, i can't tell if she genuinely enjoys performing anymore.

most of the concerts i go to everyone does a good live show - even Hall and Oates, and they can't hit those high notes - but they still try. I paid the most for my John Legend seat - and he is as good on paper as he is in person.

December 5, 2017 @ 12:47 PM

Quite surprised by how long Britney has lasted in Vegas. I guess people love the spectacle of a
reformed trainwreck!! I saw Hall and Oates about a year and a half ago, and was greatly disappointed:
by both the feeble setlist and the noticeable decline in Daryl Hall's voice. As for John Legend, not
surprised to hear that he puts on a good show as his whole career has been based on actual musical
talent!! And Shania is simply lost without the production skills and songwriting assistance of Mutt

Funnily enough, I just biked to Rotate This to buy two tickets to see the Skydiggers at the Horseshoe this month.

The only way for me to buy these tickets was in person at the store with cash. Old school!!!!!

December 5, 2017 @ 1:30 PM

And I bet you didn't have to line-up behind a bunch of scalpers and/or their paid-off lackeys to acquire your ducats!!

December 5, 2017 @ 1:36 PM

The loss of the flagship Sam the Record Man location and nearly the entire chain at the end of June
in 2007 is something that I still haven't come to terms with!! My father worked across the street from
that location for years and it was a safe place that I would spend countless hours in as a lonely, weird
teenager and later as a sad-sack adult. For the first time in over 30 years I haven't bought a single new
CD in 2017. Not for budgetary reasons, but because I can't be bothered to make the trek to any of the
available Sunrise locations. Wal-Mart only features the most popular of new releases and Sonic Boom
is too costly on some items, most likely because they know that they are pretty much one of the only
mainstream music sellers downtown.

December 5, 2017 @ 1:42 PM

Weezer's Blue album is definitely their finest moment, from the excellent songs right
down to Ric Ocasek's great production style. "Pinkerton" is sorely over-rated and filled
with too much self-angst and self-loathing, two things that I know more than a little
something something about!! Radiohead's "Creep" and Beck's "Loser" come off as
cheerful ditties compared to most of the songs on that album. Although I still love
"The Good Life" and "Tired of Sex." Too bad that Rivers Cuomo has transformed into
just another of those former wunderkinds who are now chasing whatever is au courant
in the pop mainstream.

December 5, 2017 @ 1:50 PM

1994 also saw the release of the under-rated Neil Young and Crazy Horse album "Sleeps With
Angels" (Title track was a tribute to K. Cobain)). Nine Inch Nails issued "The Downward Spiral", and
Public Enemy put out the widely-slept on "Muse Sick-n-Hour Mess Age"!! Oh, and Tori Amos
dropped "Under the Pink".

What a night. My Suns lost. It's awful. That game really really sucked for sure. Actually they lost to the refs. It's like the other team gets all the calls and my Suns don't. Also my Habs lost as well. Not good. The refs as well don't give my Habs the calls. Anyway, my Cavs will win tonight. My birthday is coming up on Tuesday. I love birthdays, so send your happy birthday messages next week. I hate Christmas though, bah humbug. Santa Claus does not exist. Go ahead and write letters to Santa and nothing will happen. A postman may reply to it, but that's all. Santa Claus does not exist. That's all phony stuff.

December 6, 2017 @ 7:04 AM

Those pesky refs costing Montreal yet another game!

December 6, 2017 @ 9:20 AM

bsmtndwllr73 - I liked seeing Britney for the nostalgia, and I think that is why she remains a popular show. Tons of ladies and gents who loved her, also love Vegas. But it made me sad because I know she is under her conservatorship :( she seemed robotic throughout the performance.

Hall's vocals are definitely not that great - and I was disappointed too, there were a few hits they didn't cover - but probably because his voice can't do them anymore. John Legend I hope retains his voice for ages to come he's truly a great musician, and performer. And yes, Shania without Mutt's talent is quite a different show - but I am hoping she enjoys her comeback. He cheated on her with her best friend - what a pig. Her new hubby is way cuter anyway ;)

This holiday is the worst for adults without kids... crass commercialism, stressful obligations, overt religiousness... I'm happy to break bread with friends and family, but I'd happily chuck the rest of it out with the organic waste.

But... there is a 3 year old in my house who is loving this holiday, and the sheer joy emanating from him warms the hell out of my cold, cold heart. I wear my santa hat for him.

There are definitely negative aspects to the Christmas season regardless of your family situation but kids believing in Santa enough to send letters or to ask for presents is one of the few pure and positive aspects left.

I was surprised that in particular would bother someone.

Urooj Islam - good point. yeah, the innocence of kiddies is truly beautiful - i tell my nieces i'll be texting santa and the freak out is amazing

Good news for anyone (like me!!) who missed last Friday's Neil Young live concert-streaming event.
CTV will be airing "Neil Young: Home Town" on Sunday December 10th between 9 and 11 PM. Not sure if the entire show will be re-broadcast, but there will probably be additional, behind the scenes footage included. Apparently this event was available to be screened (at least in part) on Neil Young's
official Facebook page, but I'm not on there, so it was a no go when I tried a couple of days ago.

December 7, 2017 @ 11:52 AM

Pretty darn sure that Brtiney Spears was long-ago replaced by the far more agreeable Britbot
model from that Austin Powers flick!! Believe me, I'm far from any sane person's idea of perfection
(I nearly have a face suitable enough for AM radio(!!), but Ms. Spears is a so-far removed from her
salad days as a smoking hot ingenue (best-experienced with the volume on mute-LOL!). Note: the proceeding comment has nothing to do with ageism or my being a pervy middle-aged Cro-Magnon!! Sadly, I doubt even Brit Brit remembers what any of her original features look like!! Such a shame.

As for Hall and Oates, when I last saw them in June of 2016 I was deeply disappointed from start to
finish. I had previously seen them at Casino Rama in 2004 on a three act bill (where they were featured in the middle) and they only performed 9 songs (plus some collaborations in the encore,
which I sadly missed due to my Nervous-Nellie of a concert mate's fear of missing the last bus back
to Toronto.) Daryl Hall's voice was already struggling back then and the inclusion of solo tracks which were in no way hits, was perplexing to say the very least. Last year's gig featured a 15 minute
version of "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)"which is about 10 minutes to long except for the most
sycophantic of H +O fans!! At least two other non-performed hits could have easily fit in that time
period. Also, was upset that I went 0 for 2 in hearing my all-time H+O fave, "Wait For Me" (a 1979
Top 20 charting single). They performed this song in several concerts along the Eastern Seaboard in 2017, but Toronto wasn't one of them. Caught live video from Youtube and it was a crappy version!!!

P.S., feel bad for Shania that Mutt-Douche Lange cheated on her, but as you so correctly surmised,
she definitely traded-up with that Swiss dude Frederic. Still, Mutt is like a musical Messiah to me
(except for his work with Michael Bolton, C. Dion, Maroon 5 and Nickelback!!!), so I'm afraid that his bad behaviour almost gets a pass from me. Remember: I did say "ALMOST"!!!
