Rowlands was best known, of course, for forbidding 'The Bare-Naked Ladies' from performing at City Hall because of their 'controversial' name. The same politically-correct nonsense might even be more applicable today!

This from June Rowland's granddaughter.

I am her granddaughter and she actually was not in the city at the time of the barenaked ladies debacle, it was a decision made by a protocol officer named Chris Korchinsky. She did not approve of the decision whatsoever. It is unfortunate that this is what she is remembered for. She was a fierce feminist and broke the glass ceiling for many women in politics. She fought for affordable housing and introduced the first anti-smoking legislation in Canada. She was a formidable woman and will be dearly missed.

Jeez, who knew? Interesting, but it happened on her watch, and in politics, blame tends to flow upward. She had a pretty impressive career, nonetheless.

And that whole nonsense really helped BNL break!

The Barenaked Ladies could probably use that kind of publicity again in 2018, regardless
of their recent sold out Massey Hall concert.

I'll bet that Big Bang Theory theme alone has bought them each a nice cottage.

@Mike Probably not Steven Page, as he has been suing them for his 20 per cent!! And to think that Thomas Dolby's "She Blinded Me With Science" was used as the theme music in the very episode!! Ah, well Mr. Dolby is probably still cashing mad cheques from his work on the soundtrack to that '80s film "classic" Howard the Duck!!!

Howard the Duck!

As a kid, I was excited that a movie was featuring a duck and the chick from Space Camp!

@Mike
Don't get me started on H the Duck!! Saw that beauty of a film three times in its opening weekend!!
And I even bought the soundtrack!! 'Tis a real shame that Lea Thompson never got the chance to
launch an actual singing career, although some of her onscreen bandmates were actual musicians.
And to think that Space Camp came out earlier that same summer!! Always blew my mind that Lamar
from Revenge of the Nerds was also one of the stars of that film!
