I'm first. I'm so glad I found this open Mike. That was a good hockey game last night. My Coyotes beat my Habs. That's great. My Suns lost though so that's not good. Hopefully my Cavs, Nets, and Suns will win tonight. Big basketball night. I also hope football will be good on Sunday. I need my Ravens, Browns, and Cardinals to all win. Won't my Browns ever win a game?

November 17, 2017 @ 8:24 AM

H.o.E.

^ Because they're the Cleveland Browns and they're terrible.
You might be waiting a long time to see them win.

Finally won the door prize this morning. Three hours so far at St. Mike's for a broken finger ha.

Love how the truck was parked in the bike lane too, before then flinging the door wide open into me.

November 17, 2017 @ 11:50 AM

James Edgar

@markosaar that sucks. I hope it feeling better. It would certainly be helpful if there was a bit of enforcement of the bike lanes. I see trucks parked in them all the time. And of course taxis

@markosaar

That sucks man.

I'm still haunted by something that happened to me last summer. I was in the Royal York bike lane heading north and in front of the TTC station at Bloor a car stopped suddenly on my left and the right door opened without a glance. I was *this* close to getting creamed. A pedestrian watching even let out this giant "No!" scream that I heard as I was ducking and deking right.

But the scariest thing ever was this past summer at night when I was riding a very calm and quiet stretch of the Waterfront Trail between First Street and Sam Smith Park. A driver blew through a stop sign whilst speeding and missed me by 1-2 feet. He never, ever looked over and may have never seen me.

November 17, 2017 @ 11:57 AM

The Voice of Reason

I am a cyclist and a driver. These bike lanes make no sense. There is a bike lane on Harbord which is a one minute bike ride south with much less traffic and safer. There are bike lanes on Dupont to the north and Davenport to the north of that. The City loses parking fares, Business' lose clientele (i have witnessed this with a couple independents that I visit regularly), loss of small independent business character is not good for anyone that has chosen the city life over the burbs. I have to wonder what the motive is to force these into place? I do think they are dangerous. Is it true that some of the independents in the area received a letter from the city stating that the area is slated for condo development? I am asking...I heard this recently. Lastly, if any city official may read this please go visit Berlin as an example. Beautiful wide thoroughfares, wide sidewalks that accommodate cyclists and walkers. Toronto, too late to be a great Int'l over night.

November 17, 2017 @ 1:03 PM

Urooj Islam

Damn, these maniacs literally have no awareness of their surroundings or even where they are parked.

Get well soon, markosaar.

November 17, 2017 @ 2:30 PM

Brian

The bike Lanes make sense but need to be enforced better. Way to many issues with cars and doors that can cause major injuries.

Heard bell/CTV let people go again this week. Sorry to all who were let go

There were strong rumours yesterday that Lance Brown and Joe Tilley were packaged out of CTV Toronto and they were just going to use TSN people to do their sports updates. They've both been there since the mid-80s.

I can't confirm this has happened yet, but it sounds like it's imminent.

Lance & Joe we the best & still are the best sportscasters as well as Sunil Joshi who was canned a few years ago by same station.
Long tenured people making a good $ regardless of their work.
Sounds like me after 38 years - let go (restructuring - LOL) as well as many other people with 20 or more years.
Work ethic sure has changed, be young & make the minimum & hopefully gain experience when you start a new job.
How can Bob Cole & Grapes still be working? Stale the last few years.

Bob Cole is the voice of several generations of hockey. I would take Bob over Jim Hughson any day.

Why would you Kick Out the Jams with Dave Shoalts? I'd rather hear his 10 favourite stand up comedy bits or top 10 favourite comedy specials.

We don't mock his stand up "career" enough.

@H.o.E.
Let's try not to be so hard on Cleveland, shall we!! After all, if the likes of Huey Lewis and that eternal
enemy of Rock and Roll, Jann Wenner, are to truly be believed, well, then, the Heart of Rock and Roll
is in Cleveland!! I mean, it was a good enough city for Ian Hunter to write and sing a song about back
in the day, even if it was just a pandering re-write of the earlier "England Rocks"!!

November 17, 2017 @ 6:46 PM

Broni

I heard a radio host complain that "the bike lanes ruined Bloor", because he got stuck in traffic driving to the gym from Christie Pits to Bay Street. If he's not using the subway for that trip, the bike lanes aren't the problem. He's the problem.

November 17, 2017 @ 7:19 PM

Count me in as another Bob Cole fan, and Joe Bowen is the best homer on the planet (that's his job!). I haven't lived in T.O since 1999 but I do remember Brown and Tilley and liked them both.

Bloody f'ing cold on the prairies on and off since Halloween. Gonna make for a long winter.

November 17, 2017 @ 8:27 PM

Cheryl

Markosaar, I hope your finger gets better. What a great basketball night. My Cavs, Nets, and Suns all won. That's great although my Cavs needed overtime to get the win. Well, I have my Coyotes at 2:00 this afternoon and then tonight Leafs at Habs. Lots of hockey. Well, why can't my Browns win? They have to win some time, don't they? I need wins tomorrow in football by my Ravens, Browns, and Cardinals.

I saw the tweet about TM podcast ratings. Not that I am an expert but ratings for online usage always seem somewhat random and unreliable. The top 10 that you tweeted about did lean towards recency as you had mentioned but the results should not be inscrutable.

bsmntdwllr73

That really sucks about Malcolm Young. He had been ill for a number of years so this is not a
complete surprise. His rhythm guitar playing was the backbone of AC/DC's sound. Much like
the Ramones and Motorhead, you always knew what you were going to get when you put on
an AC/DC album. I always found that to be reassuring. RIP.

Zimbabwe hopefully has a chance to fluorish after the army took control. I have always followed the politics here as I have a personal family connection to this as, my grandfather (mothers side) and his brothers around 1915 all decided to leave Scotland and look for countries in the Commonwealth to settle.
His brothers went to New Zealand, Australia and one went to Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). My grandfather being the youngest left had an opportunity to go to Rhodesia as his brother had a successful tea plantation, but at the last minute was convinced by a Canadian official to head to Ontario where in Northern Ontario the last of good arable land was open for homesteading, where he settled in New Liskeard. My family in Rhodesia all collectively left by the late 70's moving to Australia as the political climate was becoming evident. You always wonder what would have been if my Grandfather had made a different decision (I know my grandmother would have have been happier, she always complained he had the opportunity to go to a warm country and picked Northern Ontario!

Thank you Cheryl, James & Mike, much appreciated!

Actually much worse today. Bruising from the fall is now in full force and the finger actually hurts now. Surgery on Monday to insert pins. Broken in three places.

I had no idea what a big deal it was at first or how important an index finger is. Surprisingly debilitating and a major setback for hobbies. I'd just been playing bass 2-3 hours a night for the last two weeks, for instance. And I'm half keyboard jockey at work.

November 18, 2017 @ 12:11 PM

markosaar

To elaborate, I thought it was "just a finger". I'd walked into St. Mike's before with a bone broken in my elbow and was in and out in 45 minutes. I was not expecting to spend over eight hours there, and will be required to return several times, for a broken finger.

It's time to have these dewey (DUI) bikes of the road. Most who ride them have been charged previously. Anyone can get a Dewey scooter regardless of previous convictions. The law here has to change.

6-0. Sorry Cheryl your team is Do Do & don't step it in it.

My Habs really did put on a shit show. It really wasn't worth listening to at all. It was a real shit show. Well, my Coyotes won earlier. Hattrick for Anthony Duclair. Well, I'm ready for some football. Go Browns, Ravens, and Cardinals. Also basketball. Go Nets and Suns. I don't know why my Habs had to lose. It was all one-sided.

Every Canadian team seems to be on the way up except the Canadiens.

They seem like a team out of 1997, no one builds teams around goaltenders anymore especially one who seems to get injured so much. It's not the way to go in 2017.

I've been a vocal proponent of bandwagon jumpers. When the Jays took off in 2015, I loved the bandwagon jumpers. The more, the merrier!

November 19, 2017 @ 6:34 PM

Urooj Islam

Bandwagon jumping is fine but mocking a team and league's fan base and drawing ability in the city at every opportunity for years then jumping on a bandwagon is kind of strange. But, to each his own.

I will watch the Grey Cup.

@Urooj Islam

I've never mocked the CFL. I've repeatedly said I root for the CFL to succeed in Toronto, but that doesn't mean I wear rose-coloured glasses. Drawing 15,000 to a Sunday afternoon game at BMO was not good. The Argos have a serious attendance problem, and I like to discuss it and see if it can be fixed.

November 19, 2017 @ 6:56 PM

The Voice of Reason

@Mike

The CFL has to push the league more with grassroots programs. Other than TSN and related channels, The Argos get no media coverage.
If you could change that, the fans will come.

November 19, 2017 @ 7:39 PM

Sid_V

@VoR - CFL has initiated multiple grassroots programs to serve youth and a range of other communities that haven't been represented in their core fan base. It is going to take time, but the effort and investment is there.

November 19, 2017 @ 9:00 PM

How bout my LV Golden Showers.They get their 12 th YES 12 th win of the year,that's great,I knew that would happen.Hec that team from quebec might not reach 12 wins till 2018 and that awful team in Arizona is on track for not getting 12 wins for the entire season.I don't think anything else at all went on in sports yesterday.

November 20, 2017 @ 5:22 AM

Cheryl

Well, my Ravens won. That's great. My Ravens shut out the Packers. I wish my other teams did just as well. My Browns lost again. That sucks. Also my Cardinals lost again. My Nets lost again, but my Suns won. Well, hopefully my Cavs will win tonight. Win the fifth in a row. I also need my Coyotes to win. They better beat the leafs tonight.

November 20, 2017 @ 7:58 AM

@bsmntdwllr73
I've got nothing against the city of Cleveland. I've never been there, although if at some point their IndyCar race event would have continued while Toronto's did not, I probably would have made the trip at least once. Apparently, unlike Toronto and most other temporary tracks, people in good grandstand seats could actually see much of the track.
My comment was related entirely to their appropriately turd-hued NFL team.

That would be cool, got the book after the podcast.

@Urooj Islam

I got there, posed for a pic with John, saw George Chuvalo, then after a bit I started to feel a little like an embedded journalist. It turns out when you're not an embedded journalist, that's not a great feeling.

So I didn't stay long. I saw John signing a bunch of books and the joint was packed. There were familiar faces, including one well-known former Sportsnet and Fan personality who has a massive chip on his shoulder because his current boss screwed me and my wife out of thousands of dollars and apparently that means he has to give me the stink eye all the time.

So I hopped on my bike and am now watching the Leafers with the fam.

Well, how about those Cavs. That was a great win. They just poured it on and it was so wonderful. I love my Cavs. How about those Coyotes. They won as well. That's great. See, my Coyotes are hot now. My Habs play tonight. They should beat the stars. Get back on track, Habs.

Apparently Cheryl's 0-10 Browns could still make the playoffs if all of these 47 things happen: https://twitter.com/espn/status/933094475076739074

Well, my Habs lost again. They did lose to the Stars. Awful game. Well, my Cavs and Coyotes will win tonight and my Suns will win tonight as well. Oh, by the way, I have an early morning appointment on Friday, December 1. I have to be out of the house at 8:00, and I won't be back until who knows when, probably the afternoon. If things don't change, then I'll be late posting to the December 1 open Mike no matter what. If you post the open Mike at 7:30 on December 1, I may be able to post first. Just giving you a heads up. I was just giving you a heads up. It's not tomorrow, but it's a week from tomorrow I have an early appointment. I probably won't be first unless the December open Mike is posted at 7:30 at the latest. Chances are it won't be and then I'll post my first comment who knows when. Well, hockey was not so good. My Habs lost again. They tied it, but couldn't win it. My Coyotes lost again. My Cavs won though. They're a great team. My Suns lost though. I was not a David Cassidy fan. Well, good thing Bob Seger and John Mellencamp are still alive.

I wouldn't have thought it was possible for a 6-10 NFL team to make the playoffs.
I wonder what the odds would be against all 47 of those things happening? That would be some parlay bet. Two of the 47 specific games would have to end in rare NFL ties.
Cleveland's playoff hopes could fall apart as soon as today if Dallas doesn't beat the Chargers.

November 23, 2017 @ 10:27 AM

What happened to Anonymass? His or her beloved Vegas Golden Showers are getting warm again and they don't play leaky defense.

November 23, 2017 @ 10:36 AM

bsmntdwllr73

Also quite happy that Bob Seger and John Mellencamp are still Among The Living (Great
Anthrax album, by the way!), especially when you consider that the former had to halt his
tour recently to undergo serious back surgery. P.S., I'm also missing Anonymass's most-
compelling recaps of the LV Golden Showers' hockey exploits!! Say, am I the only one
who thinks that Anonymass would make a great name for a Death Metal Band? And yes,
I'm aware that there is already a thrash metal band from Montreal using the name ANONYMOUS!!

November 23, 2017 @ 12:14 PM

Anonymass

@ all....You just have to assume the LV Golden Showers are going to win every game they play.They could only trickle in 4 goals last night and yet was enough for another WIN.
They play again on Friday and they will win no matter whom their goalie is.They are not like some other team whom lives or dies depending on how their goalie plays and that's it. They are not like another team that pays a high Price for one good player and the rest of the team stinks.
