Not a great year, John Hillerman passed away yesterday.

Man, Magnum, P.I. seemed like a big deal when I was a kid.

It may sound generational, but growing up in the 80's and 90's was great in so many ways.

November 10, 2017 @ 8:11 AM

Eagerly awaiting the scolding Mike's going to get later on for purposely hiding this.

November 10, 2017 @ 8:22 AM

I'm here, but not first. Well, I was busy putting groceries away. They came a little late. Oh well, Grocery Gateway gives me better service if I get the first window of the day. Getting them late in the day they tend to be slow all the time. Probably they were slow because of the bad weather. Snow already. Anyway, my Cavs lost again. It sucks. They were winning at the half, but then they lost. My Coyotes lost in overtime. They blew it. This sucks. My Habs also lost again. They got fricken shut out. My Cardinals lost as well. Nobody won last night. That really sucks.

RIP John Hillerman. Pretty sure I watched every Magnum PI 3 times.

on a personal note I had a sleep study a few weeks back ,my second the first being at a clinic my my current Dr thinks is pretty much useless which is why she sent me for second one. the first one was inconclusive and did not explain why i only sleep about 4 hours a night and of course am exhausted all the time.

The new study diagnosed me with severe sleep apnea. Quite a difference and i have a CPAP machine to test for the next 5 weeks to see if i can make that work for me. First night I dragged it off my face after about 2 hours of very fitful sleep. I managed to last until 4am the next night and made it all the way through the next but did wake up at least a couple of times as it's pretty uncomfortable. I checked my fitbit and it showed a different pattern to my awake restless cycle and actually counted an extra 45 minutes over average sleep. Not conclusive but an encouraging sign.

Last night i finally slept through the night and kind of feel a bit more rested than usual. No change on the Fitbit though.

I've had a few friends go through this and having the CPAP literally changed there lives so I'm hopeful that mine will too.

I'm Tired of waking up tired as the Diodes sang back in the 70's

November 10, 2017 @ 8:46 AM

Just wondering, who will be the first in this section to post about separating the KOTJ episodes
from the main feed? I'd like to humbly apologize for inadvertently helping to stir that particular
hornet's last a few days ago. I'm very passionate about music in the way that some of your listeners/
readers are into sports, and it frustrates me that such a big deal is made over what should really be
a non-issue. Apologies to anyone who was offended.

November 10, 2017 @ 9:18 AM

James Edgar, my wife has been using a CPAP for the past four years and it's made a huge difference. Her sleep apnea is severe, but when she wears the CPAP, she doesn't snore at all.

Some masks are more comfortable than others -- if yours is uncomfortable you might be able to research better ones. I think I would have trouble wearing ANY of those masks, but my wife has no trouble. She also has one of the higher-end machines -- I think it's regularly around $1800, but after OHIP and her insurance rebate it netted about $300. These things are expensive, but worth it, as her sleeping experience is much better with the expensive machines, and they also make less noise. (Her first machine was low-end and it made a fair bit of noise that took some getting used to for me.)

I hope you're able to get comfortable with the mask, because it really is amazing what a difference these machines make.

November 10, 2017 @ 9:45 AM

@ James Edgar
I too use a CPAP machine and it took me a long time to get used to it, but eventually I did. I've used it for 5 years and I would say I only got truly used to it about 2 years ago.
For me, I discovered that the full face mask is the only style that works for me. The masks that only cover part of your face don't work for me.
I've found that I prefer Res-Med masks, but it's purely a personal choice. Your CPAP place should let you test different masks if you are having trouble finding one that you like.

November 10, 2017 @ 9:58 AM

James Edgar

Thanks for the input. My CPAP place is letting me figure out the masks . I have an under the nose one now as it's the least obtrusive ,hopefully that will be how I continue . I have an appointment Moday to go over how its going for me. One thing making it uncomfortable is that i may have a sensitive nose . It gets quite raw if i get a cold and have to blow my nose all the time and i had the same experience this week with the mask. I tried Vaseline with aloe last night and it's definitely better today. That may just be me getting used to it too but i think the vaseline helped. Maybe i just need to toughen up too .

I have a res-med machine but i think the mask maybe another brand I'll take a look. Res-med is the name that comes up first in a google search for the most comfortable masks so i can se myself with one in the future.

One question how are you keeping your masks clean?

November 10, 2017 @ 10:16 AM

On the Toronto Mike'd front, there was a great deep dive yesterday with 93.5 The Move morning show host Blake Carter.

Next week, there are two deep dives and a KOTJ. Paul Romanuk and John Gallagher are the deep dives and Stephen Stanley (founding member of Lowest of the Low!) is kicking out the jams.

November 10, 2017 @ 10:30 AM

Currently listening to the Blake Carter Deep Dive!! Can't wait to hear the John Gallagher return
visit as I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of his new book at my home library branch. The Stephen
Stanley KOTJ episode should be great as well! Always grateful for any and all content that is provided.

November 10, 2017 @ 10:38 AM

@ James Edgar
I clean my mask with CPAP mask wipes that I get from my CPAP place.
I just couldn't get comfortable with the nose-only masks and I find that although the full-face mask makes me feel like a cyborg, its 4 points of adjustment let me get it more comfortable.

Good to see all these male predators having accusations against them brought into the light. These are numbering up into the 100's with some of these men. Looks good on Hollywood too; they always present themselves as these "good socially aware" people. As a former oil patch guy I always found them speaking out against oil and gas bullshit given they flew around in planes and lived in giant houses.

I'm amazed to read about all the people who are dealing with sleep apnea. A couple of years ago I was reunited with my childhood best friend who I discovered is a long time sufferer. It took him quite some time to find his comfort zone but these days he is doing quite well.

I always thought CFL'ers worked at Home Hardware during the off-season. And yes, I am a CFL fan. The league is huge out here in the west.

Currently listening to the Mike Hogan episode. Great stuff!

Its Remembrance Day. I've found it pretty funny that the NFL has made a feeble attempt lately to wear military style camouflage team gear on the sidelines in a not so subtle way of saying "we support the military". What a bunch of pathetic goons. Nice try, a-holes. And I'm also disappointed in the VFW not having more spine and taking a more hard line stance than this. Send a message like the rest of us will this weekend.

I have that dreaded two-hour dentist appointment this afternoon. They have to do impressions and put a temporary crown on. It's two hours in the dreaded dentist chair.

November 13, 2017 @ 7:50 AM

Yesterday I saw your hard-hitting tweets and enthusiasm about a classic Canuck TV show.
I went to the same elementary school as Snake from Degrassi and one time I traded comics
with him back in 1983 or so. That's pretty much the closest I ever got to a Canadian showbiz
legend!! Well, except for that time I tuned down a half-can of pop from the drummer from Helix

I re-watched that first Degrassi Junior High episode yesterday.... maybe the first time I had seen it in 20 years. It's the "all the way with Stephanie Kaye" episode and it was pretty great, even though Joey came across as such an asshole.

I once took a leak beside Snake at a Raptors game, but that's my brush with his greatness. I met Joey at the CNE when I worked there and let him play a few games at my booth for free. And poor Wheels... the saddest story to come from that great Canadian series.

November 13, 2017 @ 9:59 AM

Yes, the real life tragedy of Wheels' demise might be the quintessential cautionary tale of perhaps
why parents should think twice before allowing their children/teenagers to enter showbiz
prematurely. His appearances in an early Degrassi:TNG episode and in a Degrassi anniversary
special were heartbreaking to witness. On another Degrassi: TNG note, I found the wheel-chaired
Jimmy Brooks to be more credible and likable than his portrayer's current position as the Six's
foremost ambassador (just one dude's opinion, Folks!!) Finally, not sure if you have seen a more
recent picture of the actress who played Stephanie Kaye, but would really like to know what
happened there!! No big deal, really, as I was always much more besotted with the likes of
Caitlin and Melanie!!

I think at one point Stacie Mistysyn, the actress who played Caitlin Ryan, had a regular Saturday

ever ironically gave the Zit Remedy a spin or two?!?

Sounds like it barely begins to atone for what was done in the first place...

@Neil Clarke Warren,

I must confess that 25 to 35 years ago I was never sexually harassed by a women or a man. Again it looks like I am in the minority .

Oddly I got harassed every so often as a young waiter. Completely inappropriate passes from women more than twice my age, my ass slapped several times. And then when older male waiters would notice they'd tell me they'd kick my ass if I didn't get a phone number or dared complain about it.

In my case it didn't really affect me much besides some confusion at the time. I uh ... really wasn't interested in women 20 years my senior. But they didn't exactly have power over me.

Great comeback by my Cavs. They were losing so badly at the half. Great miracle comeback to win. My Suns lost though which wasn't good. My Nets hopefully will win tonight. Also in hockey I need wins by my Habs and Coyotes. Well, big long dentist appointment. It was grinding down the tooth after freezing, and impressions galore. I had to keep biting and biting. Two fricken hours in the dentist chair. Now I have this fricken temporary crown on for two weeks. The crown has a metal taste to it. Why couldn't the guy just pull the tooth. It's way at the back, and nobody could see it. Then my dentist said that if I ever have a bridge, it's four hours in the chair all at once. No way, I am never getting a bridge. No matter what happens, I won't get a bridge. My teeth are good though, but now the problems crop up.

"Reckless Daughter" (A Joni Mitchell biography) by David Yaffe
"Dreaming the Beatles" by Rob Sheffield
and "Chuck D Presents This Day In Rap" All four of these books were a good read!

My Habs and Coyotes both lost, but my Habs at least went to overtime. That's great. My Nets also lost. Nothing good happened in sports. I really hope my Cavs win tonight. I need them to win. I really don't like this temporary crown. It sucks. The tooth doesn't hurt, but it feels really weird and it has this metal taste to it. I should have just been strong and said pull the tooth. @chris - The flag sellers may not be selling as many of the 'Eye-talian' (as Mike Richards pronounces it) flags next summer with them not qualifying. But I don't remember ever seeing a U.S. flag on anyone's car in the GTA.
And other than the countries Mike mentions, I can't think of any others who block traffic. I seem to see a lot of German (despite very rarely running into any recent German immigrants or hearing the language spoken) and England flags, but never heard of them blocking traffic. But obviously there's no 'Wee Britain' area where they would congregate.

I can't pretend to be interested or cheer for another country. I'll watch if and when Canada ever qualifies again by beating out the places mentioned in "Lawyers, Guns and Money" (I hadn't thought of that song in a long time, until I heard it used coming back from a break on 1050 this morning where Matt Cauz was apparently filling in for Landsberg).

-Regarding scanning the radio dial and getting strange stations, I heard a Philadelphia news station on 1060 AM while in a window seat on a GO bus on the QEW on a Sunday night recently.

November 15, 2017 @ 10:58 AM

I hope that the version of "Lawyers, Guns and Money" that you heard coming back from commercial break on 1050 this morning was the original version and not the censored, abridged version from Mr.
Zevon's initial "Greatest Hit(!) compilation (final verse omitted, if I do recall!). You probably couldn't tell
as I'm quite sure that only the chorus hook was played!
