I'm first. Goody, goody. My Cavs won. That was great. They will win the finals. I know it. Cavs in four, maybe five. My Indians got rained out. My Orioles had a day off. My Diamondbacks won though. That's a great thing. Chris Owings homered and that was great. Anyway, so Cavs all the way, another championship. Party party. Well, I don't know if there will be a party. I don't think I can afford to pay for one since I'm retired.

I hope everyone has a relaxing enjoyable summer filled with Patios, BBQ's, Jays, friends and family... Because we don't get a lot of summer in Toronto, so lets make the best of it

With a few occasional exceptions, the only time I listen to conventional (AM/FM) radio anymore is for a few minutes on weekday mornings to hear a brief sports, weather, and newscast on 1010 or 680. Does anyone else find the use of the term "double overtime" to be odd? I heard Tim Haffey use it this morning to describe Ottawa's elimination from the NHL playoffs.
I think it's something that slowly migrated here from U.S. sportscasters who use it when talking about basketball. I know it's not uncommon today and I suppose I should have gotten used to it by now, but it still sounds strange to me because I did not hear it as kid, not to mention it sounds silly and is just plain inaccurate. It's a second overtime period. What's "double" about it? It doesn't mean they've now played two games. It doesn't even mean they've played twice as much overtime if (for example) the game-ending goal is scored 30 seconds into the second overtime period. "Double overtime" seems to somehow imply there must be something more important or severe about it, like the super-duper double secret probation (or whatever the term was) in Animal House, almost as though scoring a goal would mean the team now gets two wins, not just one.

The biggest shock of the postseason thus far was Boston actually winning a game in Cleveland.

It reminded me of when the Russian bled in Rocky IV.

I see your point, but I also call it double overtime. It's the easiest way to convey it ended in the second OT period in a way everyone understands right away.

So you were at the CNE grounds to look at the redone markers in the parking lot for the location of the bases at the old stadium. Any sign of them repaving the decaying roads inside of Exhibition Place? The pavement was embarrassingly breaking up during the IndyCar race last year. Now that I think about it, does anyone see or hear any advertising at all for the Toronto Indy race? It makes me think the city and race promoters may have lost interest and be ready to give up on it soon, maybe after this year. Just about the only mention you hear of it in recent years is complaints about closing Lakeshore Blvd and making people have to walk all the way around the outside of the Princes' Gates to get from the GO station to the amphitheatre to see Iron Maiden or whatever will be there on that weekend in July.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/590/raceline-radio/tomas-tales-pp-means-pave-promote/

BTW, not that I remember it because the 1980s Ballard mediocre and bad Leaf teams drove me away from watching hockey, but supposedly Erik Tomas did some play-by-play of Leafs games once upon a time.

@H.o.E. - I think I have always known extra overtime periods as "double", "triple", etc.
One Americanism that I despise coming over the border is the calling of a hockey sweater a "jersey". Baseball, basketball, football and others, yes, jersey. In hockey, it is a sweater. "Funny" how Canadians like to pi$$ on Americans and Americanisms, but so readily adopt them. More like irritating, actually.

I came off the Martin Goodman Trail over the bridge at the Bud Stage b.k.a The Amp, so I didn't notice any work being done on the road. But maybe!

I'm about to write an entry in which I share my pics of the Exhibition Stadium base markers. Stay tuned!

The conservatives who complain this is a "liberal blog" are strangely quiet on the eve of the CPC picking a libertarian and former Quebec separtist as their leader, hahahahaha. "Just Not Ready" Justin must be giggling with glee as he jogs around the land.

Last Saturday, I had the immense pleasure of seeing Midnight Oil in concert again. What a show. What showmen, performers on the stage. They are all in their 60s now and can still crank out the songs without resorting to simply turning up the volume. I was most impressed by drummer Rob Hirst, who looks at least as fit, and possibly more muscular, than he did 30 years ago. The Oils put on a great show, and the sound production team they had at the Danforth Music Hall made it sound great.

The Oils have always been an activist/protest/socially conscious group, all the way back to their formation as Farm in the 1970s. Between songs or when the group needs a brief break, you can count on some political commentary from band leader and former MP (twice elected, Australian Labour Party, in a posh Sydney, New South Wales riding) Peter Garrett. After saying how much he/they appreciated being in Canada after weeks in the U.S., Garrett said, "I know you guys have a little boy for a PM... ...but Trump is a monstahhh"!" I don't always agree with Garrett, but he isn't one to B.S., whether it be in or about Oz, the U.S., or even Canada.

I see that Hillary took to bashing Trumps budget that she claimed is aimed at hurting the poor. Did Hillary express any contrition, any remorse for the inhumane aftermath of the illegitimate, unjustified military intervention in Libya which she championed? One recalls with nausea her smiling face and waving hands as she approached Mr. Sarkozy in the forecourt of the Elysee to finalize the dirty and devilish deed.

Leave it to TVOR to draw a hard and fast connection between 2 completely unrelated policies! Now make a conclusion about Benghazi based on the moon's orbit just for kicks.

I had a Cheryl moment just now.

Was posting on another topic and thought "Hey It's Friday and I see no open Mike?"

Could not find the damn thing....Had to refresh the page and low and behold...Like an aspiration it slowly came into focus..

I don't have much to share. My youngest daughter started her first part time job tonight (not counting babysitting) She's nervous, as you would imagine but will be fine. Or she'll burn the place down, who knows ?

As for me, I've been in horrible pain for the past couple weeks with what I thought was a pinched nerve in my upper back/neck. I've since been diagnosed with "Thoracic outlet syndrome" which is just a fancy way to say I have compressed nerves and arteries, but saying it to certain people brings out some compassionate "oohs and ahhs" but no offers of a neck rub from any beautiful women (wife included) . So the only person that rubs it is my well built chiropractor. Unfortunately his name is Paul, but he has a nice personality and is getting results...

I noticed that a couple of weeks ago Jill Colton was a guest on the No Fun Intended podcast with Mark Hebscher and Liz West.

I believe that the odds of her appearing on the Toronto Mike podcast is equal to the odds of the Vegas Golden Knights winning the Stanley Cup in 2018.

Why do you say that? She said she'd like to visit, I just haven't ever followed up because I don't think I want an alt-right guest.

You'd definitely be branching out and pushing the envelope if you had Jill on the pod. I'd listen. I'm actually listening to the Richard Syrett pod this weekend.

@James Edgar

I do understand your feelings about your dad. April was the month of my Dad's death, May is the wedding anniversary, and June is his birthday - 99 coming up! He's been gone since 1985 and I still think of him frequently.

I gave it a lot of thought... and I don't think I'd enjoy 60-90 minutes with someone with that belief system. I invited her on after she left CP24 and then I read her tweets. No thanks.

Good call, TM. Plus I doubt your sponsors (and listeners) would smile politely as you allowed an a**hole 90 mins of a**holery.

@TorontoMike

Regarding Jill Colton, that was precisely my point. She is such an ardent Trump supporter, I did not think you would be comfortable with her as a guest.

I never suggested that she would refuse to appear on your show. I was just making, what turned out to be, a lame attempt at humour.

As a possible guest, I would put her in the same category as Andrew Krystal.

Well, not a good night. My Indians lost. They had a 4 to 0 lead. Jose Ramirez hit a home run. Well, they lost 6 to 4. This is awful. My Orioles got no runs at all and got shut out. At least my Diamondbacks won. Jake Lamb homered again. That's great. My Cavs are winning in four or five. It will be the champion, repeat. My Cavs will win it all again.

Good news Cheryl, Toronto FC won the Trillium Cup last night. This may be the biggest Trophy that the city wins at all levels this year.

Congrats Cheryl.

What's with these people? They claim MSM is all fake yet swallow hook, line & sinker the "incredible investigative reporting" of some random dude posting on youtube.

For years, I viewed both liberal or conservative stances as valid stances where each had their strengths & weaknesses. But more & more now, I view conservatives as being intellectually, morally and integrity bankrupt.

@Wise Choice Mike

MSM is not fake, but in Norther America it is definitely a left wing bias. The Washington Post, NYT and the CBC are classic examples of pushing the left wing agenda.

Cheryl

I don't want to talk about baseball. All my teams lost last night. My Indians lost again. Franky Lindor homered, but they lost. My Diamondbacks also lost and my Orioles also lost. It was a bad night. Bring on my Cavs. They're winning it all again this year. I know they are doing it.

May 28, 2017 @ 7:59 AM

Cheryl

I have a sore throat. I woke up with the thing. It sucks. I don't know how I got it, but I need sympathy. I don't like sore throats. I wish it would just go away. Well, I don't feel that great. My Indians won yesterday so that was great. Josh Tomlin pitched a real gem and he pitched a complete game. Jason Kipnis also hit a home run. Well, my orioles and Diamondbacks both lost. That's no good, but my Indians were great yesterday. Now I need to get rid of this stupid sore throat I have.

Take Tylenol & call the DR. in the morning if persists. Your BBall teams are floundering bad.

Cavs done in 6.

May 29, 2017 @ 7:42 PM

Cheryl

Well, throat is still scratchy. I think I'm a little better. Anyway, Neocitran. Why are two packets stuck together like that? I mean you have to cut them apart. I did thinking I cut it just right, but then one packet spilled out. They should make it so it's in single packets that you don't need to cut apart. There is obviously some mark on the package where you are supposed to cut, but I can't see it. Anyway, my Orioles won a nailbiter. That was great. Dylan Bundy pitched a gem as usual. My Indians made it a nailbiter in the ninth, but still won it with home runs by Austin Jackson, Edwin Encarnacion and Carlos Santana. My Diamondbacks lost though. My Cavs will repeat. I know they will do that. Cavs are the best. You all should know that.

Since it started a few years back, the JFL42 festival has always been a great 10 days at the end of September (although the name still seems a little awkward, and doesn't include the words "Toronto" or "comedy"). The lineup was announced this morning. I think there's always been at least five things I want to see every year, even if I've never heard most of the rest of the acts. The headliners like Bill Burr, John Mulaney, and Tim And Eric are at the Sony Centre, while other acts are at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, Royal Theatre (on College St. W.), and other smaller venues. Last year I saw Dana Gould at a very small venue called Revival, a former church (also on College St. W.).

May 30, 2017 @ 8:50 PM

Cheryl

Okay. About the Neocitran, my trainer told me there is a mark that looks like a scissors, but of course, it's visual and that's why I can't see it. Anyway, so he cut the rest of the Neocitran packages which is a good thing. They should make them so you don't have to cut them apart. That would make sense. Oh well, it's one way of not caring about blind people. I heard a guy named Franky Ballard sing a cover of a Bob Seger song, You'll Accomp'ny Me. He sure wrecked it. I have no idea who Franky Ballard is, but he's no Bob Seger and Bob Seger sings that song millions of times better than Franky Ballard. Franky Ballard is no good. He's a loser. Well, my Orioles lost. That was no good at all. My Indians won though. That's great. Trevor Bauer pitched well. Jason Kipnis homered twice and Bradley Zimmer also homered. My Diamondbacks won as well. Great pitching by Robby Ray. Yes, the Cavs will win the NBA final. Of course they will. Cavs are the best.

May 31, 2017 @ 7:39 AM

Cheryl

Well, my Indians lost. That sucks. Why did they have to lose. Franky Lindor homered, but that's all they got. My Orioles won though which is great. Chris Davis and Adam Jones homered. Also my Diamondbacks won. Paul Goldschmidt hit another homer. Well, tonight my Cavs play. They will win. Cavs in four or five. I hope it's four. Cavs will repeat. Franky Ballard is no good. Franky Ballard wrecked a Bob Seger song big time. People like Franky Ballard shouldn't be around. Why can't people write their own songs. Maybe it's because Franky Ballard is too lazy to write them.
