I'm first, but what do I get to say? OK here goes ... how about those Habs?

Naw Cheryl does it better

February 10, 2017 @ 8:27 AM

Yes, how about those Habs. Well, they did beat my Coyotes, but I got what I wanted, an overtime win and my Coyotes still get a point. Unfortunately my Cavs lost though and that was not a good game. I'm second today. I guess I missed being first. Well, snow on the way. Oh well. Anyway, nothing more about work yet. Hopefully I will hear something next week.

So my wife was hearing things "in the walls". I immediately called an Exorcist because why waste time like they do in the movies. It's a fucking demon already. So I grab my Yellow Pages, and I pick the guy who is clearly on his game: AAAAAAAAAAA Exorcism Services is the very first listing I right?

Anyhoo, it turns out all the Priests are down in Thailand for some weird reason...odd I know, but whatever. So I think..well maybe it's not a demon. Maybe I've got a family of wolverines in my walls. So I head over to Canadian Tire to look for Wolverine traps but they don't have any. I settle for mouse traps, but to be honest, I'm feeling guilty already, because there are those standard traps where you can kill 'em outright, you can zap 'em, you can poison them or you can even get one that makes their feet stick to glue..permanently. There wasn't one trap in that whole store that allowed you to LOVE THEM. Well, there was one catch and release model, but there was only 1 left, and it had clearly already been opened and possibly, I had to make a tough decision.

I settled on a trap that is basically a tiny guillotine, because I figure I could have a little ceremony, and village mice could gather and throw (tiny) rotten tomatoes at the guy and stuff. But it was 145 bucks so eff that right?

So it's day 6 and I am now officially a mouse serial killer. Four of them have succumbed to my brutality, and I have to say, I actually feel kind of bad for the little guys. I really do. Here they are just living their life and suddenly a broken ass neck.

Two small things that make me feel a bit better though. I'm sure it was very quick, and each little guy went out with his mouth full of delicious peanut butter...

February 10, 2017 @ 9:43 AM

@ Ryan..

Thank you for that :)

February 10, 2017 @ 10:11 AM

@Ryan: there is a natual scent to use - mint or something? and it supposedly makes them go away. we have critters in our attic too, hoping winter kinda froze em off :/

February 10, 2017 @ 10:17 AM

Ryan G

I saw that scent thing too, and considered it, but I figure it might just send them to a different part of the house. I have a cat, and she was losing her shit hearing this stuff in the walls, and I ain't taking her to no cat psychiatrist.

A few weeks back there was one actually running around on my second floor and she caught it and was tossing it around and stuff. I managed to catch it in a bag, and I suspect being scooped up and saved from a gigantic beast was the greatest moment of it's life, only to be outdone a few minutes later when I released it outside.

Also, I've ordered the Canada Parks Pass twice and have yet to receive anything in the mail.

Meanwhile my own SISTER has gotten hers, as well as other friends who ordered after me or close to when I ordered. I'm just annoyed - I did call them, and they can't track my orders or anything. SO I just have to wait.

February 10, 2017 @ 10:36 AM

I ordered one last week j.

I'll post here if and when I receive mine.

Where's our favorite Libtard* Mike at today ?

* Wanted to be the first to call him that here today.

@ j & Beatts
Ordered my pass online first week of January and received it last week of January.
Also know of 2 family members whom ordered after me and have received them.
Soo just under a month seems to be the ticket.

February 10, 2017 @ 11:31 AM

@Ryan G

My sister, who was living with me at the time bought the glue traps. So I get home on a Saturday night and find 2 mice screaming stuck in the traps... I figured the most humane thing to do was to kill them right now, rather then let them starve and die in the glue

So I went and got a butchers knife and chopped their heads off...I'll admit I didn't sleep super great that night

I told my sister that if she wants to set glue traps she can kill the mice herself... So to everyone out there, unless you're willing to finish them off yourself, don't buy a glue trap and think its more humane than a standard mouse trap

Could the Toronto real estate market get anymore closer to insane buble popping territory, with the sale of the bungalow near Greek town this week.

Further to your tweet about NCR.
Not Criminally Responsible.
Many of us have a very difficult time accepting people like Mr. Li and Richard Kachkar free to walk among us after having committed such horrific offenses.
That being said, people cannot "fake" their way into an NCR. It is clear to everyone that Li and Kachkar were not of sound mind on the day of their offenses. Many professionals and experts within the mental health field have input into determining an individual's mental state at the time of their offence. Then the Ontario Review Board (here in Ontario) reviews all of the treatment history of the individual before making any decisions.
Mr LI has obviously shown a consistent ability to function while under treatment for the past few years. This includes a gradual re-introduction back into the community.
I understand how difficult this is for the family and I imagine I would be horrified if the man responsible for my son's death was going to be a free man, but Canada's justice system is not just punitive, it's about rehabilitation.

February 10, 2017 @ 6:46 PM

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

Here's my perspective on NCR. I was the foreman of a jury of a murder trail, and the accused pled NCR. So he admitted he killed his daughter, but presented evidence he didn't know right from wrong at the time.

We found him guilty of second degree murder.

I agree with everything you wrote. Mr. Li should be given an absolute discharge at this point.

February 10, 2017 @ 6:55 PM

@Rick C,

Tell me about it ... been trying to buy a house, but not at these prices for such shit. Feel I missed the boat.

February 11, 2017 @ 1:20 AM

Good questions. Are you talking about a radio? I use the internet. is good. You can get Tunein premium for $10.00 a month. that's how I get my basketball and they have commercial free music stations as well. I can't help you with radios though. Well, my Nets lost again. They always lose and they had a big lead and were leading at the half. My Nets suck. My Suns won though. That's great. At least they can win once in a while. Well, I have hockey and basketball both tonight. A Habs game and a Coyotes game along with a Cavs game.

February 11, 2017 @ 7:58 AM

Just watched a documentary from CNN, History of Comedy, part 1.
Suffice to say, I found it both entertaining and informative.
Apparently there's 7 more parts, not sure of when its airing, ie weekly/time slot.
I'll continue to watch online.

If you're easily offended, you don't need to watch.
If you're looking for a reason to be offended, this show is perfect for you.

Part 1 focused on censorship, and featured Red Fox, Lennie Bruce, and of course Carlin Carlin, and his 7 words, of which contemporary comedians took a run at.

Part 2 is about the ladies in comedy.

Do you have a link? This sounds like an awesome series.

All I could find on CNN was the trailer, and the youtube link is broken.

Appreciate it, thanks!

February 11, 2017 @ 12:44 PM

Ryan G. and Daniel, thanks for the laughs. Having had to deal with mice in my last house, I feel your pain.

February 11, 2017 @ 1:32 PM

Funny stuff, Ryan, thanks!
The classic traps work best - yes, with peanut butter or just peanuts.
I used to use the glue version and would drop them in a bucket of water when one was caught. Just gruesome thinking about chopping their heads off!
Key for me is to be vigilant keeping fresh traps loaded in the garage - at all times. When I get lazy and neglect this vigilance, the little buggers find a way into the house.

@Mike: Did I read that right? Derringer is coming on the podcast?

February 12, 2017 @ 6:09 AM

Well, my Habs lost another one. That's no good at all. Why are they in a fricken slump? Who knows. They'll win tonight though. They're in Boston tonight. My Coyotes won last night though. That's great, an overtime win. My Cavs also won last night. That was great, but my Suns lost. 10 cm of snow today. At least I don't have to go out today and my trainer isn't coming today. He is curling today though and he could make the Intermediate Men's Provincials March 2.

Yesterday, Derringer tweeted that he had a big announcement to make Tuesday at 6am. I retweeted that and asked for guesses. Someone guessed the big announcement was that he was coming on Toronto Mike'd, so I retweeted that, of course.

Coincidentally, my next two guests worked very closely with Derringer. Maureen Holloway is next, then "Lobster Boy" Craig Venn.

I'm still hoping Derringer drops by at some point this year. He hasn't said no, he just asked me to ask him later.

- Anyone using the term 'Libtard' online always makes me picture them as Floyd R. Turbo, a character Johnny Carson often did from the late 1970s up to the time he retired from The Tonight Show. Not that they don't probably exist in some form in every country, but it sure seems that the U.S. has a higher proportion of those types of guys who think the moon landings were faked and professional wrestling is real.

- I am always a little bewildered at people online constantly complaining about particular programs on GTA AM/FM radio. I don't get what compels them to keep listening to something they say they don't like. It's 2017 -- even in your car, you've now got a multitude of other options besides local terrestrial radio available. If you can't find anything interesting or entertaining, you just aren't bothering to look for it, and must like complaining. I don't have enough time for a lot of the stuff I do want to hear, never mind wasting time with stuff I don't like.

- What happened to Ed The Sock's scheduled appearance?

Well, disgusting game last night. Habs lost. I don't know what went wrong, but Carey Price allowed four goals. That's not like him. Anyway, Habs are in a slump and they have to get out of it. My Nets play tonight and my Suns play tonight as well as my Coyotes play tonight. My Habs don't play until Saturday afternoon. What's wrong with the Habs? Carey Price shouldn't be allowing four goals. Anyway, hopefully I will hear something about work today, but who knows.

So it's Monday morning and i'm finally posting to Fridays open Mike.
I'm just getting time to post now because i was driving to my sisters in Beachburg Friday to help with the aftermath of her house burning down last Tuesday.
The house is a total loss but her and my brother in law were able to get out with their dogs. the cats unfortunately did not get out and even worse the heard them crying out. the house was engulfed in flames by then and they couldn't get back in.

To make matters worse my sister's youngest son Ian died in a house fire at age 24 when he was living in B.C. on December 26th 1996 just over 20 years ago. He died because he went back to rescue his GF's family cat. So this is all pretty traumatic. Not just for them but my whole family, My Dr thinks my type 1 diabetes was triggered by Ian's death for example.

Me My Wife San and my other Sister Gayle went up to help up as much as possible and to offer moral support. Needless to say it was an emotional roller-coaster .

Friday while we driving up there My sister , her son Sean and my brother in law had gone in with the insurgence guy and had a look . He confirmed that the house was a write off , not that anyone who saw it couldn't see that for them selves.

Saturday we spent the day in the remains of the house looking for anything that was savable and that had some sort of meaning or importance. We were fortunate to find my sisters mementos from Ian intact and for the most part not even very sooty as well as their passports and some other papers and mementos that were important to my sister. We managed to fill 17 2 cubic foot boxes which was pretty amazing . Most of that stuff are things we thought they would be attached too and want to try and clean up. I think the china and glass wear are probably ok not sure about the rest. the stink is overwhelming.

I took the hard drive out of my Brother in laws computer and his external drive to see if i can do some recovery but his office was part of the most destroyed part of the house and both wore subjected to severe heat so that's a bit of a long shot.

They live in a small town so the support has been tremendous! clothes ,food , offers of help and cash all flowed to them immediately afterwards ( the town pharmacist delivered my Brother in law refills on all his meds, a new glucose meter and test strips and a $250 check from the lions club before the fire was officially out). My Brother in law is 72 and not in the best of health so the support is really needed and appreciated.

So a couple of suggestions for the crowd.
1.Go hug your loved ones. Go No I'll wait.
2. Ok Go check your smoke alarm batteries ASAP .
3.Put important papers in a fire resistant safe or similar , or maybe keep them in a getaway bag near the door .
4. Go a hug the loved ones again.
5. Maybe think about moving to a small town

I'm sorry to hear this. Especially the tragedy of 1996. I can't imagine...

February 13, 2017 @ 9:30 AM

Beatts and Dawn - thank you for the reassurance. I am just sad, I really want my pass haha.

And I called Parks Canada - they said they can't track it, tracking number is for my records, so I will wait. Just find it unusual I haven't received but clearly I am not the only one :)

Ryan - yes, when our cat was with us he caught one mouse and loved it - the mouse not so much... it's sad we don't want to kill them but really they aren't our friends running around inside our homes. i genuinely hope they have moved on to somewhere else, haven't heard them for a little while. otherwise, it's off to buy traps. i would love a cat but mom says no more cats haha.

February 13, 2017 @ 9:41 AM

What a terrible tragedy. I am really sorry this happened. Glad they were able to rescue a few important items - especially from her first son.
Poor kitties.

February 13, 2017 @ 11:12 AM

@JamesEdgar: so sorry to hear about your sister and brother in law. i am glad they were able to rescue some important items. hoping that the warmth from their community and their family, helps tide them through this devastating and difficult time. xx

Sorry to hear about the tragedy, James Edgar. Anyway, my Coyotes won and shut out the Flames 5 to 0 so my Coyotes are on a roll and my Habs are in a slump and I can't believe Carey Price allowed four goals. My Nets and Suns both lost so basketball was not very good and my Nets keep on losing. Why can't they win just once. Anyway, my Cavs will win tonight. Pitchers and catchers reported yesterday. Spring is on the way. I like Orioles, Indians and Diamondbacks. On opening day, my Orioles play in the afternoon and my Indians play in the evening so that's perfect. I don't know if I'm working by then. I thought I would hear from someone yesterday, but nothing so who knows. I'm doing okay though.

Now that was funny! I'm listening to Humble and Fred talk about the duct cleaner guys not calling cell phones as much as they do old land lines. Guess what! A duct cleaner guy calls my cell number.

I should have followed in Freddie P's footsteps and said "F--k you, F--k you, F--k you, F--k you", but alas, I chickened out.

Your Habs coach was fired today & Habs get Claude Julien for the 2nd time as coach.
He was fired before & then MTL. hired Terrien again.

This is like a merry-go -round.
It's time for YOUR HABS ownership to see the problem. Your GM, not the coach.
I predict if, if, if the Habs make the playoffs out in the 1st round. Just like last year out with a whirlwind with few losses & don't make playoffs.

February 14, 2017 @ 7:58 PM

I know my Habs had Claude Julian before and they hire him again. Why would you hire a coach who has been fired before. anyway, my Habs have to come out of the slump that they're in. Anyway, my Cavs won last night. That was a good game and hope they win tonight just before the all star break. My Coyotes lost though. That was not very good. Anyway, so still nothing from work. People are ignoring my emails for sure. Anyway, so wish I had millions and I could just retire.

February 15, 2017 @ 7:47 AM

Thanks for the advice about I hadn't thought of online options.

@James Edgar,

I'm so sorry to hear all that.

Going to advise my friends not to replace their hardwired alarms with battery-operated ones as they were just talking about doing...

February 15, 2017 @ 9:30 AM

Well, great basketball game last night. My Cavs won just before the all star brea and my Suns also won. My Nets lost. I think I may drop them. They flat out suck. I hope my Cavs can repeat. That would be great. If my Habs can get out of their slump, they'll win the cup as well. Looking forward to baseball. Opening day I have my Orioles and then I have my Indians after Orioles so like a doubleheader. I finally heard from the CNIB. They filed the report yesterday morning and it's up to work to make it more accessible. That's what is happening. Anyway, so who knows when and if I'll be working again.
