Prince Be, Dead at 46

Prince BeAttrel "Prince Be" Cordes was 46. He was the first black rapper to top the Billboard Hot 100 with P.M. Dawn's single "Set Adrift on Memory Bliss."

Don't know if you remember the movie 'Varsity Blues' but the huge guy that played Billy Bob, Ron Lester, died yesterday. He lost a ton of weight, but died of liver and kidney failure.

They label it as "rap" though I would label it more as smooth R&B. Gotta love how they snagged the Erik B and Rakim bassline to Paid in Full.

I'm pretty sure that Tone Loc - Wild Thing came close or hit number 1 in the late 80's though.

It's likely Tone Loc would have made number 1, but back in the 80's hip hop was viewed as a "fad" so it's likely some radio stations were slow to play it. Hey, Toronto was right up there. I know all too well.
