I'm watching quite a bit. I actually love these game times.

@all

I apologize for the server issues lately. I'll get it fixed. You should still be able to comment, it just takes a little longer than it should.

Al The Royal Pain

I'm not saying it's an amazing show or anything, but considering the theme of this blog, I recommend checking out the new Global show Private Eyes. The show actually takes place in Toronto, it's not Toronto trying to be New York or Chicago. It's basically a Canadian rip-off of Moonlighting starring Jason Priestly. Again, nothing groundbreaking, but man I love how they show the city, it's beautifully shot (the city). If that's not enough reason to give it a chance, the pilot features a cameo by Doug Gilmour (playing himself).

Oh...also...we're playing up in Barrie tomorrow night @ Donaleigh's:

Well, happy Father's day to the dads as well. Anyway, how about those Cavs. I don't know why I said I didn't really like Lebron. He's a great player and the Cavs are a great team. One more win to go on Sunday. The Warriors are nasty and dirty. The \Cleveland Cavaliers are a great team. Also how about those Orioles. Tyler Wilson was amazing last night. Too bad he always be this amazing. He pitched all through to the ninth and then Brad Brach came on. Adam Jones homered again for my Orioles. They almost had a shutout until David Ortiz homered in the bottom of the ninth. My Orioles are back in first place and hopefully will stay there. My Diamondbacks didn't play last night so they couldn't lose. Anyway, so Cavs all the way and I am winning my money. I'll get my money on Monday morning. The other guy won't get it.

IMHO, LeBron James is the greatest basketball player, ever.

How great would it be to see him lead Cleveland to their first NBA Championship? Heck, that city hasn't won anything significant since before the Superbowl was created.

@TOMike,

yeah the times are great for viewing here in North America.

For those of you who were Canada AM viewers, or who are curious about its sudden cancellation, Jeff Hutcheson now has a blog:

https://iusedtobeontv.wordpress.com/

If you start with the June 8 entry, he gives a background (over the course of several postings) of what the hosts knew about behind the scenes, what sort of advance notice they had, and the ominous signs that something was about to happen.

@Mike

Mike, Wilt Chamberlain is likely the greatest basketball player of all time.

The NBA had to modify its rules because of Wilts domination. Here is a short list;

1. Shooters cannot cross the free throw line while during free throws (Wilt would throw it against the backboard for dunks)
2. lane widened from 12 feet to 16 feet
3. offensive interference/goaltending
4. ball cannot be inbounded over the backboard (Inbounders standing underneath the basket would routinely lob the ball over the backboard for Wilt)

this is a great list - thanks. I have super memories of going to Beaver Lumber with my dad. He wasn't much of a handyman but he liked to poke around at BL and I'm sure my mum loved that I tagged along with him - give her some peace and quiet.

Towers - Living in a super small town we would sometimes go to the 'big city' - Brampton! and go to Towers. It was always on payday and we would eat in their caf. HAHA this was a big night out. sometimes I would get to buy a treat. But always, I would get to ride this little ferris wheel thingie they had at the front - you know the kind that are like a horse - you put in a dime and ride for a few minutes. it was this tiny ferris wheel - me and my sister thought it was amazing. YEARS later when we heard towers was closing we went over there - the wheel was still there. Sadly my ass would not even come close to fitting in the seat. Another Towers thing - my oldest brother when he was super young made my mum a mothers day card and the inside said "I gave my mother flowers she went to Towers". AHRHARHA that has been a family joke for 40+ years now.

I had forgotten about these two places.

GOOD TIMES.

Has DomoSpin been in the public eye since the DM tweet?

June 17, 2016 @ 11:43 AM

Barry

@ Carl

Other than posting his mock draft on Sportsnet.ca, I don't think he's appeared on anything. Kinda surprising, since the thing to do in that situation is get yourself on PST and have one of your buddies say, "Hey, Damien, I hear you had a little twitter trouble," then say, "Ha ha ... yeah, my account got hacked and someone posted something asking for a selfie. Ha ha ... had to do some explaining to my wife ... ha ha."

But locking your account and seemingly going into hiding makes it more likely that people will believe the tweet was legit. (And it may have been -- I have no idea.)

@Al -
I've recorded all of the episodes of "Private Eyes". I haven't been able to watch very much yet (still on the first episode), but I like what I see so far. At least it is not screaming(ly obvious) that it is a Canadian production. I thoroughly enjoyed the Shaw/Global/Showcase production "Continuum" that wrapped up late last year. It will be interesting to see what Vancouver's Reality Distortion Field Inc. production company comes up with next.

I suppose it comes down to what have you done for me lately. Joe Malone scored 44 goals in 20 games one NHL season. Likely the greatest goal scoring record in NHL history, but because it happened almost 100 years ago, it never gets mentioned.

Al The Royal Pain

@Douglas

Like I said, the show itself is just ok...I'd say on par with regular network-type shows that aren't HBO or AMC or the like. I just like how it shows off the city and the different neighbourhoods, schools, hospitals, parks and attractions (even the island).

It is obviously Canadian, but not in the negative way (I think) that you're referring. Quite the opposite, just as some shows show off cities like New York and Chicago and all their New Yorkness or Chicagoness, Private Eyes so far is doing a great job showing off Toronto's Torontoness. Lots of tower & dome shots, streetcars, different neigbourhoods, etc. Heck, they even make the Gardiner look nice.

Happy Father's Day weekend to all! The big news in Durham Region is the opening (finally) of Highway 407 all the way from Brock Rd in Pickering to Harmony Rd in Oshawa. It's taken 15 years of planning, arguing, suing, assessing, building and paying for the darn thing and it'll open on Monday. Free for use until 2017 and Saturday the Town of Whitby is opening up a small section of it in Brooklin for all to walk or ride on it before any vehicles are allowed. I know nowadays public transit is all the rage when it comes to transportation, but it really isn't a workable solution the way the eastern part of the GTA has been planned and built over the years. The car is king out here and it won't be changing any time soon.
Hope everyone gets a chance to enjoy the last weekend of spring!!

Friday Thoughts

Millard & Smich 1st degree Murder - Perfect. Rot in hell with Bernardo.

Lebron may be in top 4 or 5, can never compare to Wilt the Stilt, Kareem Jabbar, Jordan or Larry Bird. Shaq is close for those that I saw play.

Wanna see Steph Curry win with Warriors as he was born & schooled in Toronto with dad Dell Curry when he played for Raptors.

Gordie Howe. my late Mom's favorite player. RIP. Mr. Hockey.

The Jays - when Tulo comes back from DL- then what. Tulo back on roster? Goins, Travis, Barney have been awesome in their defense & offense the last 2-3 weeks. Buy Tulo out - LOL.

My Dad passed away 25 years ago June 26th.

Happy Fathers Day to all Fathers on Mike's site & especially mine. RIP Dad.

June 17, 2016 @ 11:17 PM

@Mike

YES, defense & Offense. Lebron still young. & could do more. Le Bron defense & all about himself.

Bird so far best Pt. guard ever in NBA - IMYO.

If Cav's win Sunday, Look out for Cheryl.

@dale

Whether he's the best of all-time or not is subjective, but I can objectively state that you may think he's "still young" but at 31 he has already played more minutes in his career than Larry Bird or Magic Johnson did in theirs.

Oh, and this NBA finals he leads both teams in points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals. I'll let that soak in...

The convictions on first degree murder for the murder of Tim Bosma, shows how hard everyone from the police, Crown and witnesses to get to this verdict.
Almost a case of Affluenza, as Millard could have purchased any truck he wanted. Hope his disgusting smirk he displayed in court is wiped from his face his first day in jail.

June 18, 2016 @ 8:31 AM

Cheryl

Who's Wilt Chamberlain? I honestly never heard of him. Magic Johnson I know the name, but I haven't followed basketball until the late 1990s. Nobody else can score 40 points in a game like Lebron. Yes, my Cavs are going to win. It will be awesome and then Monday morning whenever Bill goes to the bank, hhe'll knock on my door and give me the money. That's how it will work because if the other guy wins it, he has to give the money to Mike to take to his work to give to his colleague. That won't happen because I get the money. Bill had the Raptors by the way. Anyway, I want my money and I will get it. I really don't want to talk about the Orioles. The game sucked last night. It was boring. I turned it off. My Diamondbacks were awesome last night though. Home runs galore and Yasmani Tomas hit two of them and Robby Ray pitched well again and won. That was awesome.

On the argument mentioned here and on Toronto Mike'd about the CFL being more popular in Canada than the Raptors, Steve Simmons says:

The power of the Green Riders: A pre-season Saskatchewan football game outdrew Game 3 of the Raptors-Indiana playoffs series on TV.

June 18, 2016 @ 8:44 PM

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

@Blind Dave

The only argument that ever works in the favour of those who say the CFL is more popular than the Raptors in Toronto is TV ratings, and to be frank, I don't believe the TV ratings numbers.

I simply don't believe the reported numbers. Too few PPM devices at play, too tied to traditional viewing methods, etc.

June 18, 2016 @ 9:15 PM

Karen

@Cheryl I have seen Wilt Chamberlain on tv,he was a monster player.I have never ever heard of Bill or Mike anyway

June 19, 2016 @ 3:45 AM

Cheryl

Bill is in my building. Mike is as well. Mike was the one who dropped out of the pool, but someone at his work is in it. Anyway, my Cavs are going to win and then I will win the money. Bill has the money as he is the leader of the pool. He'll be knocking on my door and giving me the money tomorrow morning. I can't wait. My Cavs are going to win. How about those Orioles. Yovani Gallardo comes off the DL and he pitched a great game. Jonathan Schoop got a home run. This is wonderful so Chris Tillman is pitching today and Orioles will win. Mark Trumbo is long overdue for a homer so he will hit one. Also my Diamondbacks won as well. Another win by Zach Greinke. He had a slow start, but now he is winning every game. Paul Goldschmidt homered and Jake Lam did as well as Nick Ahmed. Nick hasn't hit one in a while so maybe this will get him going. Baseball was great last night.

Cheryl I've always thought you were an older woman considering how all your posts sound like how my grandmother talks about the Jays, but I just read you have never heard of Wilt Chamerlaine or Magic Johnson... Even though you talk about lebron like he's one of the best players to ever play.

Can you please post a pic of yourself. I know a lot of guys that would love to meet a woman that's up to date with today's sports scene!

@ Cheryl
Who is your favorite to win the Euro Soccer?

June 19, 2016 @ 4:46 PM

Cheryl

I can't post a picture. I'm blind. as for Euro soccer, I really don't care about it. Well, how about those Cavs? They won. Yes, they are the champions. Apparently Bill won't give me the money like I thought. Mike left me a message saying that Bill will be really busy today and he has $100.00 as he gave it to him and told me to call and set up a time when we can meet because I am going to have to work for my money. This is new so I just called him and he said he wants me to do some typing so I get my money. He said it's a list of different figures. I said I'm not good with that kind of thing and I won't do it. I won the pool so I shouldn't have to do it. He said fine, no money then until I agree to do it so I left Bill a message about this. Hopefully Bill will find a way to tell Mike to give me my money. How about those Orioles? That was a great game. Chris Tillman was a bit shaky, but pitched well enough to win. Matt Wieters and Jonathan Schoop hit home runs. Great game. How about those Diamondbacks. Get out the brooms as they swept the Phillies.

June 20, 2016 @ 7:59 AM

andrew

@ Cheryl

It seems your "pool" is run by a BS artist.
Speaking of brooms, is your trainer still involved with the speil.
Congrats on the win & your money?????? Who knows if & when you get it.

June 20, 2016 @ 6:20 PM

Yev Kassem

@ Cheryl....No money for you come back 1 year !

June 20, 2016 @ 8:39 PM

Cheryl

My trainer will still be curling next season, but only in a couple spiels and no playdowns so he and his team won't be curling much at all at least not in the early part of the season. Good news. I got my money. I complained to Bill. He comes knocking on my door saying he was not as busy as he thought. He had to go to the bank and get me another $100.00. He talked to Mike and told him it was totally wrong to make me have to do something for the money. I didn't want to type a big long list of figures anyway. Well, my Orioles lost. They were leading 3 to 0, but blew it. My Diamondbacks did win though with another homer by Jake Lam. Boy is he really hot now. Let's hope they continue to win. Well, I am savering this Cavs champion. Of course I like my Suns and Nets, but I'll be cheering for Cavs next season as well. They're a great team. Also this fricken election. Someone knocked on my door yesterday, Li Koo or whatever her name is. It's school trustee. I am not voting and why should I care about school trustees. I don't have kids or go to school so leave me alone. Also this Li Koo keeps phoning me as well with her automatic messages. Li Koo has to know not to bother people like me. Whoever she is and I fricken don't care about her or this stupid election and it's not everywhere, just in my area, but Li Koo just leave me alone. I don't need you at all.

June 21, 2016 @ 10:07 AM

Cheryl

Ho hum, another Orioles loss which they were leading earlier, but they lost it 10 to 7. The pen blew it even though Pedro Alvarez homered twice. My Diamondbacks played a great game though. That was great. Yasmani Tomas and Paul O'Brien homered. That's great so my Diamondbacks are heating up. Meanwhile I am still savering the Cavs championship. They're a great team. Anyway, no more calls from Li Koo. Well, I don't care about her. Why should I. She does nothing for me at all so good person or not, I don't care about her or anything like that.

June 22, 2016 @ 10:28 AM

Cheryl

My Orioles won last night. That was a great game. Ubaldo Jimenez won which is once in a blue moon that he wins. He's not very good. My favourite player, Mark Trumbo is finally out of his slump and hit homer 21 last night. Finally he gets to 21 and on top of the AL again. My Diamondbacks lost though. That was no good, but they lost. I got more junk mail from Bell again. Just leave me alone. I hate Bell. I am not going to ever go back to Bell. Anyway, so Bell bugged me after this Li Koo person bugged me. As I said, I really really don't care about this Li Koo person so hopefully I will never ever hear from her again.
