If you are a baseball fan, how can you not be following the careers of Bryce Harper and Mike Trout.
It seems MLB can learn a lesson from the NBA on how to market its young stars.

April 22, 2016 @ 8:36 AM

I'm still shocked Prince is dead. It seems so sudden, and he was so young.

Drugs do not discriminate, you abuse them and ultimately they catch up to you.

Cheryl? Cheryl? Cheryl?

It's crazy that the CN Tower was scheduled to be purple last night for the queen's birthday.

It's a twofer!

So who here is watching the NHL playoffs?

The National Post can be reliable for one thing other than terrible reporting... Their hard on for Justin Trudeau. Everyday at least one of their leading articles is about him.

Not overly surprised the duffster was let off. However I was enjoying a bowl of popcorn when the judge lambasted the Harper government and the PMO for their shady dealings.

Pretty indifferent to Prince's death. Not because I wish him ill, but it has no affect on my life now. I'm surprised by how many people suddenly became prince fans. To irv's point yesterday everyone mourns these celebrities, but I can't for the life of me remember the last time someone spoke about him or played his music or seemed impassioned about his life at that moment.

Annoyance. All the aholes who don't pick up after their dog when they go for a walk. I guess if a dog goes in the bushes and you don't pick it up that could be forgiven. However if you own a lab and let it @#$@ in the middle of a path or sidewalk you are scum.

t-minus 2 months until the Euro Cup. Large amounts of soccer daily for several weeks doesn't get much better than that. Neither does going to the south of France to catch a couple of games.

The National Post hard on for Justin is interesting considering Postmedia Network owns both the Post and Toronto Sun now and both papers share the same office now at 365 Bloor Street East.

April 22, 2016 @ 9:37 AM

Ben V

@ Toronto Mike: yeah I know. The Hard on I speak of though isn't necessarily a good one. I think they hate him so much much they can't not talk about him and be envious of how much attention he is getting world wide.

They start off their latest article with "To truly grasp Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s media strategy, one must first appreciate this: He does things no other politician will do" and then end with "For now, only one thing seems certain: The more Trudeau does this, entertaining though it may be, the greater the odds he’ll trip"

Then it makes perfect sense.

April 22, 2016 @ 9:56 AM

I never did care about Prince's music. Anyway, my Pacers lost again. That sucked. This is killing me in my pool. There may be someone dropping out and if there is and my Pacers don't win, I can have his team. I'm not 100% sure about that though. I heard there might be. How about those Orioles. They were losing. They managed to come back and win although it was a nailbiter. Diamondbacks also won. Baseball is good.

I feel your pain. In my NHL playoff pool, I'm toast if the Kings bow out, and they're down 3-1.

April 22, 2016 @ 10:00 AM

"To truly grasp Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s media strategy, one must first appreciate this: He does things no other politician will do"

Yeah like yesterday when he alerted the adoring media that he was headed to gym in Brooklyn to "work out." Unfortunately for JT, Prince died and he didn't get that front story shot of him in his yoga gear.

Better luck next time. Because, we all know there will be a next time.

It's ok Argie. Another 3 years and the cons can have another kick at the can. Perhaps they will have another white knight professing respect of the tax payers and transparency who will turn out to host one of the biggest houses of jackals the country has seen.

By that time your worst fears will be realized legalized pot, assisted suicide not longer an issue and the abortion debate will be dead.

Have you seen spotlight Argie? Would love to hear your opinion on that.

April 22, 2016 @ 10:09 AM

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

Just chiming in to say the abortion issue has been long dead in this country.

April 22, 2016 @ 10:14 AM

@ Ben
They are waiting for, hoping for and anticipating his fall.
And the more he doesn't the more it drives them and a small section of the public crazy. The type that say "everyone is embarrassed by Trudeau" and "the world is laughing at us".
But oh well. You'll never change their minds.

April 22, 2016 @ 10:17 AM

@ Argie

The working out photo op press release made me cringe. And I like Trudeau. Those are the moments that make me shake my head.

April 22, 2016 @ 10:27 AM

Wrote a script which interacted with a social media and 100% of the National Posts write ups were negative toward Trudeau. I've got no trouble with the media investigating & attacking the PM. In fact I encourage it. But when it's JUST about finding something to bitch about the media is useless. They'll be bankrupt soon enough anyway.

@Argie: Attention whore stuff aside, what's so wrong with following JT to a boxing ring? In case you haven't looked around this country is full of people who are obese & that includes a lot of kids. Having the PM partake in what is rigorous physical activity just might be a good thing. I don't know if you've ever tried boxing but the training component is excellent. We need more leaders who set good examples like that.

April 22, 2016 @ 10:32 AM

@Ben V re: doggie deucing..yup, it really is incredible how thoughtless so many people are.

Similarly while driving into work today I saw some teenaged girl open a package of something and oh so casually throw the plastic wrap to the ground. You might say well..she's just a kid, but I saw a grown up man do the same with a coke can this week as well. Then of course there are the cigarette butts. Perhaps smokers who do this just think they'll just bio degrade, but who's kidding who..they know better.

April 22, 2016 @ 10:35 AM

I agree boxing is a terrific workout. I wish I had to time to do it on a regular basis. I hate just working out for the sake of working out. Know what I mean?
Nothing wrong JT working out and inspiring people to get off their ass - its just the way he does it. Its always a show, a "look at me" exhibition.

I'm with you on Euro 16 this summer, I'm all over it. Hopefully my ENG boys can do it.

April 22, 2016 @ 10:51 AM

Ben V

@ Toronto Mike: Tell that to the conservative MP and MPP out in the kitchener waterloo area

@McNulty: I don't understand why they want him to fail so badly. He's in there for 4 years hoping for that would hurt everyone. I'm not always a fan of staged photo ops, but the media nationally, in the US and internationally love him right now. So if he goes to a Kum N go gas station in the states they will turn it into a media spectacle. At least he looks genuine when he's doing these things.

April 22, 2016 @ 10:52 AM

Honestly, the key to working out regularly for the sake of "working out" is to get into a rhythm. Once you get into the flow, working out becomes part of your lifestyle. If you don't go to the gym you'll actually miss it. And you look forward to it. It can be as simple as walking uphill to get yourself going.

You could also consider getting something like a Fit Bit. They allow you to monitor your daily steps, food intake, sleep, etc. They send you a weekly update and you set goals every day. You might set your daily steps goal as 5000 and aim for that. It might make you walk a bit more because you'll think "I need to get the 5000 steps"

Unless your in training, you don't really need to do more than 60 minutes of exercise a day. What you want is a high intensity. It IS tough to find the time. I get that. I commute 90 minutes each way to work. And some days you just can't go because of scheduling. But once you fall in the groove you'll look forward to it.

April 22, 2016 @ 11:04 AM

Duffy innocent of all charges. What does this tell us about Harper. never mind I already know.

April 22, 2016 @ 12:48 PM

zilch 2

Duffy the puffy conservative attack pig ('today would have been Michel's birthday' to Margaret at Pierre's funeral. Margaret almost collapses) is a nothing but the other nothings didn't bring him down.

If you take fitness advice from Irv, I have a bridge in Surrey to sell you.

April 22, 2016 @ 12:59 PM

Neil Clarke Warren

I am only going to post 1 TIME not 3-4-5 times.

April 22, 2016 @ 1:42 PM

@VoR. LOL, a bridge in Surrey? Sweetheart, you're too much of a puffball to last more than 10 minutes in Whalley, Newton or any other Surrey neighborhood. As for my fitness, next time I'm in Ontario (which is very soon) I'll stop by your place and we can work out together. Deal?

@Zilch. Easy to blame Harper, but in my opinion it's more than Harper. The rules set for senators were really vague. This was probably by design in case there was ever a scandal. The rule of thumb in criminal & civil law is vague is bad. I mean most of them are fucking lawyers themselves. They know the game. With Duffy it's a case like Ghomeshi. You KNOW the motherfucker is guilty but the law is the law. You have to follow due process or you become..Cuba.

@BenV/TM Re: Abortion. I don't think that subject is that dead. The Waterloo guy is Stephen Woodworth. Waterloo Region is sort of a unique place. The most technologically advanced area of Canada, but it's also got a strong Mennonite/German background. Mennonites aren't just against abortion, they're against birth control, etc. While many have modernized they still possess very very traditional values & vote that way. When I lived in Wat Region, there was often protests against abortion out from of Grand River Hospital. In fact, i would say that some elements in that region are as right wing as you'd find in Southern Alberta.

@McNulty. Admittedly I find the whole photo op thing overbearing. But every person in power does it including the Queen. You can't blame them for doing it. A huge element of society actually likes that stuff. Harper was guilty of the same thing too. The staged song and dance shit, rallies where only confirmed Conservatives were allowed in, etc. It is the Selfie generation after all.

April 22, 2016 @ 4:27 PM

By dead I mean there is 0% chance of abortions ever being illegal in this country.

Relax oldtimer.

April 22, 2016 @ 4:41 PM

Oh I agree with that. But, there are factions who will certainly try.

April 22, 2016 @ 4:44 PM

Well, my Orioles lost. That was no good, but they lost 4 to 2. My Diamondbacks also lost 8 to 7. They won't lose today though. Both my teams will win and hopefully my pacers will win. Oh well, if they don't, there is definitely someone dropping out of the pool. His Cavs are up three games to none and he's dropping out so I get the Cavs. I have no idea why he's dropping out, but he is, I mean he is winning three games to none so he's nuts, but that means chances are more for me to win.

The Jays Colabella banned for 80 games, possibly his rise can be attributed to them the last season.

Forgot to post on Friday but, did anyone see The Star's political cartoon on Friday?
You'll love it, Mike!

Don't know what is sicker, Holmolka actually having kids or a guy who actually wanted to marry her?

Rosie DiManno's article nailed it.

April 23, 2016 @ 4:40 PM

Another part of that whole story that has been forgotten is the complete failure of the police in the investigation. Dozens of officers made mistakes. There was a 6 month long inquiry into that failure. DNA wasn't processed fast enough and had it been it might have stopped some of the crimes.

It's right up there with the 1997 failure of with processing Pickton evidence. He hired a sex worker in 1997 and attempted to kill her. She escaped but not before slashing him. They both ended up at the same hospital. No one went forward with charges because the woman was a drug addict and prostitute. Years later, they analyzed the clothes and boots of Robert Pickton from that night. They found DNA that could be tied to several missing women. Had due process been followed & charges pursued they would have got him. All those women he killed over the next 5 years would have not been murdered and cut up. This was a man who sold human flesh as pork.

This is all public evidence now. It wasn't at that time. In fact if you check the CPIC CNI/DNI police databases he was on record as a person of interest in a sexual assault in like 1991 or something.

I agree, Holmoka should not have kids and should have been declared a dangerous offender. But the fuck up is ours too. And we seem to whitewash that all away. Can't be stepping on the toes of our institutions, now, can we.

@fourtern, meant to add his steroid use was the possible reason for his performance , BlackBerry auto correct failed me again

April 23, 2016 @ 8:10 PM

Rick C, now I get it. Autofill and auto correct can cause embarrassing texts, I've learned to check the checker very carefully!

My Pacers won. That's great. It's even now. Anyway, so I can still have the Cavs. The guy who had them decided to drop out. He wanted out. He's nuts because his team is winning three games to none. I don't care because my chances of winning are going to be greater. If my Pacers don't win and get eliminated, I have the Cavs. How about those Orioles. Home run by Chris Davis. Tyler Wilson pitched a good game. Diamondbacks also won as well. Wonderful that they could win as well. Baseball is good.

As a Stars fan, based on tweets from the team and media, there is no local broadcast of the game, (I suppose due to NBC's mandate.) Either way, always funny to hear Gord and PIerre on SN.

April 24, 2016 @ 4:07 PM

My Orioles lost and my Diamondbacks lost. My Diamondbacks lost in a very long extra inning game. It sucked. Cavs won, goody. Actually I am not crazy about Lebron, but I need them to win anyway because I want my money. If my Pacers can't win, then the Cavs have to win so I stay alive in my pool. I don't know why that guy dropped out, but he did. Anyway, my Pacers will win tomorrow night I hope.

April 25, 2016 @ 6:38 AM

Jason from Sudbury

Chicago is out. Guess I'm going for Pittsburgh now.

April 25, 2016 @ 11:38 PM

My Orioles lost. What a bummer. It was a horrible game. It was a shame because Kevin Gausman pitched very well. Anyway, it was 2 to 0, boring game. My Diamondbacks won though which is a great thing. Hopefully my Pacers will win tonight and the Cavs win the next game. I want my money. I am going to get it because if my Pacers don't win, the Cavs will win.

April 26, 2016 @ 10:07 AM

Admit it, there is NO POOL for basketball. WHY would a person leave the pool with the top ranking team in East Division the Cavs. Last year you mentioned somebody died & you were able to get their pick for either NFL or MLB playoffs.

There is NO POOL & if there is there is no water in it.
If there is LOL - take your $100 & bet it on the Habs next year for winning the Stanley Cup in 2017.

April 26, 2016 @ 7:09 PM

My orioles lost. It was another awful awful game. They lost again and my Diamondbacks lost. My Pacers had the lead for a long time. They had to blow it. It sucks. Now you think I am making stuff up. Okay. I am not making stuff up. I never do that. It's not good to make stuff up. Yes, a couple guys died, but I said there is a guy who decided he wanted nothing to do with the pool anymore. He asked me if I wanted the Cavs. I said I did. Anyway, I hope my Pacers can still win though, but who knows. If they don't, the Cavs will. This year Cavs win the NBA championship. They have to.

April 27, 2016 @ 10:47 AM

The Good Dinosaur

Apple's radio station Beats 1 is live from Toronto (Zane Lowe's show). It's on the release of the new Drake record, but he's digging into the Toronto music scene.

April 27, 2016 @ 1:03 PM

Fk Drake. Jeebus, you people.

April 27, 2016 @ 4:51 PM

My Orioles finally won. That's great. Chris Tillman got his second win and Joey Rickard hit a three run homer. Zach Britton picked up the save. Now let's keep it going. Unfortunately my Diamondbacks lost though. Patrick Corbin loses another one even though Paul Goldschmidt homered. Anyway, my Diamondbacks need to pick it up. Well, my Pacers don't play until tomorrow night. Cavs are resting for now. Anyway, I think Pacers win this series in seven. Yes, they will do that.
