I read this week that Tony Romo was going to get a steel plate placed in his collar bone so he will not break it for the third year in a row.

This had me thinking about the Maple Leafs. Maybe the Leafs management should have every player have a tracheotomy in training camp. That way we can guarantee that the team does not choke next year.

@The Voice of Reason

This season, the Leafs choke when they accidentally get two points.

Having said that, I was excited to see Nylander score the late tying goal the other night and I have enjoyed rooting for the kids. In the Shanaplan I trust.

March 11, 2016 @ 8:30 AM

Argie

@Mike
I trust the Shanaplan - for the most part. My one concern is that after 3 or 4 brutal years and getting a lottery pick each time, we could still end up like Edmonton.

Was really intrigued by the Goose Gossage coverage yesterday. Thought his interview on Tim and Sid was cringe-worthy but also great for the 2 guys. Sid nearly lost it during the interview .

Speaking of cringe, I find Canadian media coverage of Trudeau's visit to DC embarrassing. It just makes us appear so desperately wanting approval from the coolest kid in the class. I get it - it's all largely symbolic and no real "talks" went down, and I suppose if it helps this country in some shape or form, such as reminding American tourists to come here, then I guess that's a good thing, but I just had to step away from CBC's nauseating coverage yesterday.

On a related note, Mike Myers looks pretty damn good for 78.

Trudeau's meeting with Obama? Really? I checked CBC News & The Star's websites and I can't find anything about it. Must be one of those "secret" meetings.

So I'm not first. Doesn't matter. How about those Habs. Alex Galchenyuk does it again. PK Subban got hurt though. Get well soon, PK. I know. I don't like some of the things PK does, but he is really a good player and the thing is that he is a hab and I don't want anyone to get hurt no matter who they are. My Suns lost though. That sucks. Also Menard lost again. This sucks. I want my money, but I won't get it. Menard isn't winning much. My trainer is getting his car fixed so he will have it for now anyway, so he won't have to drive a standard car yet, but eventually it is going to happen and then he will need more lessons because he only drives automatic cars.

@TO Mike

Did you know that the original Michael Myers mask (could be the one in the pic even) was cast from William Shatner's face? It might have originally been made for star trek or something else but it was ultiamtely discarded in some studio prop department, and the producers of Halloween happened upon it when they needed something cheap and creepy.

On the topic of 80's slasher flicks, there's one I just re watched that's somewhat under appreciated. It features Linda Blair doing almost nothing in it, yet she does manage to keep her split-pea soup down, and Vincent Van Patten. It's called Hell Night and it's on the youtube thingy.

this was question TSN Radio earlier this week..
who's a better fit for Toronto Steven Stamkos or John Tavares

I lean towards JT, nothing against SS, but think his best years are now and not two years from now.

Tavares is a better player than Stamkos, but a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

@Sam

I'm not sure why the CBC continues to report this that the Canadian PM visit is generating headlines around the world. A quick glance at some of the foreign daily's (WSJ, NYT, ..) show that this is clearly not the case. The kicker is on newsmap.jp, there is little, if any, attention being given, even at home. This story, and ones like it, are meant to create the illusion of support at home. Reality check: the rest of the world couldn't care less and many Canadians are embarrassed.

Quint I asked Mike the past few weeks about his issues with Humble and Fred. I am sure he is quite hurt by the way Humble trashed him on the podcast. We should just let sleeping dogs lay.

March 11, 2016 @ 11:35 AM

McNulty

@ VOR

What evidence do you have that many Canadians are embarrassed? Besides constant editorials from the Toronto Sun, who is embarrassed that the PM of Canada was greeted with respect and treated to a state dinner by the President of the United States?

And any time anyone says, "Let me be the voice of reason" you know that they are not.

And the following news organizations have covered this story...

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-35772329
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2016/03/10/stronger-us-canada-ties-on-menu-for-trudeau-obama-discussion.html
http://www.aljazeera.com/blogs/2016/03/trudeau-obama-enjoy-160310134154115.html

That's just a quick glance. Sure, the Trump sideshow dominates the news but that's because it is a circus and Trudeau isn't.

The only people who claim to be embarrassed are the people who disliked Trudeau before he ran for Parliament. They hate the name. They hate the he doesn't meet their hypocritical criteria for Prime Minister.

For 10 years the Harper government steered the economic ship that is Canada. Their dutiful stewardship allowed for a surplus that would sustain us through the inevitable decline in the resource markets. When the crash came, these nimble conservative economists were ready, having anticipated this decline and socked away a rainy day fund.
Who can forget when the Right Honourable Joe Oliver, Mister of Finance, proudly proclaimed a surplus of $1.5 billion dollars and a balance budget. "Mission accomplished!", he professed from the deck of the HMCS Athabaskan, dressed sharply in his flight suit, as the navy throngs cheered wildly.
A moment we won't soon forget I'm sure!
But there was danger on the horizon my friends. Surely the steady hand of Capt'n Harper would navigate these treacherous economic waters and safe us all!
But an ungrateful populace had other plans in store for our valiant Conservative crew. They threw away substance and stability all for the chance of a selfie with he whose name I dare not speak.
All that work, all that economic wisdom .... gone in the time it took to mark a ballot.
And that surplus and balanced budget?
Ravaged by the Liberal hoards in less than 5 months as the chosen one preens and readies himself for the next photo op. All while Canada burns.
But fear not good fellows, there is a beacon of hope commanding the opposition benches.
Rona!
She of substance and stability. She of humility and light. When the time is right, she will proclaim the location of the hidden rainy day fund that was created through the sheer determination and force of will of her predecessor Ol' Cappy, and return Canada to what it once was. And when that day comes my dearest brethren, when Rona reveals where rainy day treasure lies, she will, with her crew of stalwart economic wunderkind, free an ungrateful populace and Make Canada Great Again!
True story bro!

I think we surround ourselves with like-minded people with similar values and political leanings.

Nobody in my circle has anything negative to say about Trudeau's visit to Washington this week or his appearance on 60 Minutes outside of the fact that they showed a picture of Kim Cattrall while talking about Maggie.

Horse shit on anybody calling it an embarrassment. as someone stated above the only people calling it an embarrassment is the sun and the national post who haven't hesitated to go after Trudeau daily since he was elected. The same terrible newspaper I'm sure voice of Reason reads every single day.

The tongue and cheek way that Nigel put it is spot on. Whatever turmoil our economy is in, has nothing to do with the liberals. All the fault of the previous government. At least trudeau is out there meeting dignitaries vs. Harper sitting in back rooms masturbating to pictures of oil wells.

I'm sure Voice of Reason is the same guy that created the anti trudeau/ wynne facebook group. If you want to see the type of people that hate the liberals, go over to that page. You'll be able to read all the racist misogynist and utterly deplorable posts that go on there. From fellow Canadians unfortunately.

Can people also stop putting up that meme of how much a homeless person gets vs. the syrian refugees. As if it's unfair of Trudeau and our government to give them a helping hand. I especially like the one that hates on the refugees for having an iphone, but the supposed poor person has a nice golden lab..... It's not even comparing apples to apples and anyone who buys into that post are probably the same ones that say I can balance my chequebook the government should be able to balance their budget...

Rona Ambrose. Well there is enough said right there. She's partisan trash, who suddenly had an epiphany on pot after 10 years.

Everybody is entitled to their preferences and views but there are limits. My wife likes to put jam on a bacon sandwich, which is something I find revolting. Likewise, when I make french toast, I put salt and pepper on it (and maybe hot sauce), whereas she coats it with powdered fucking sugar and maple fucking syrup. This is why she is my ex wife. That, and she had a "moment" at a concert a few years back when James' lead singer Tim Booth came off stage and danced suggestively with her. I think he was singing "Laid" too.

March 11, 2016 @ 2:24 PM

Irv

Why I bother..but...

@VoiceofReason. The "car crash of an economy" you refer too is the result of oil at 38.69 USD & natural gas at 1.82 USD. Natural Gas prices peaked in 2008 & have been on a long, slow decline. Oil started it's decline in June of 2014. It's simply impossible to produce fossil fuels at these prices even in "right wing" jurisdictions (think Saskatchewan). Last time I checked Brad Wall was right wing & pro business. Secondary to this is the decline in the price of copper, iron ore, potash, etc. All of these are international issues & out of the control of the government. Perhaps the question is why was so much focus placed on the development of natural resources.

Politics is show business for ugly people. The pomp & grandeur you're witnessing is simply part of the spectacle. I'm not sure what school of business you went too but "networking" is a commonly accepted way of developing business interests.

Finally, what's the harm with Trudeau appearing on Vogue, etc? In case you missed it, people like attractive people. That's how humans work. Nearly every products marketing campaign uses attractive people. Trudeau & his wife are attractive & they have the classic "nuclear family". That may not matter to some corporate executive but it does matter to Joe & Jane Average. And they may well buy Canadian products because of that image. I live in a mountain resort town in Western Canada. International tourists play a huge part of the booming economy here. I'm quit sure all the hotel owners, restaurant owners, etc have no issue with a good looking PM getting publicity in the largest potential market for tourists.

March 11, 2016 @ 2:30 PM

James Edgar

@ Mike yes it is a great song!

@ Ryan salt, pepper and hot sauce actually sounds like it might be good...
I will say though that powdered sugar is the way it was originally served in France so it's hardly a crime for your ex to put it on hers. and of course with maple syrup being one of the 4 food groups in Canada it's extremely unpatriotic to complain about it's use at any time. no doubt CSIS is watching you carefully

@JamesEdgar - My family came to Toronto from Belfast in ' 66 so we grew up enjoying the culinary delights of the po' working class (Northern) Irish. Yes I'm being ironic. As such none of us really embraced so called Canadian food until we got older. I remember losing my mind when I first tasted a properly cooked steak at about age 21.

This is part of the reason why I never have been able to understand the appeal of dessert. To this day I don't eat any kind of cake, pie, gummie bear or god damn tic tac. It's probably a good thing nowadays that I don't have a sweet tooth, but my folks just didn't have the dough to give us dinner AND dessert.

Well given your previous post it certainly seems my presence got under your skin LOL. And where did I say I supported Trudeau? Argie said he didn't see how Trudeau was an embarrassment. Does that mean Argie is a Trudeau supporter too?

As for the situation with Wynne in Ontario, well you people elected her. 3 times LOL. And if you believe Wynne is the most "corrupt" government in Western Civilization then you've never drove past Highway 10. I'm sure American's, Italians, Brits, Spaniards, & the Greeks would definitely disagree. Further, Turkey is in negotiations to join the EU. Is Erdogan's government less corrupt than Wynne? Or does Wynne support ISIS & shoot those who protest against them?

I'd like to ask you a question though. Explain to me how "Trudeau is in over his head?" I don't want your opinions, I want facts. How is he "over his head?".

Ya know what I think though VoR? I think you're a lot like those Christian types who hate gay marriage because it's "anti family". They say that because they can't say "I hate fucking faggots". You just hate Trudeau. If he fed every hungry kid in Africa, you'd probably complain there was too much salt in the food.

The world was watching, and laughing , if I can steal this line from VoR. And many Canadians were embarrassed. This is obviously the substance that Trudeau is sadly lacking.

March 11, 2016 @ 5:03 PM

meanwhile

The world mourns the loss of Berta Cáceres, an Indigenous woman who peacefully yet persistently resisted the destruction of waterways in Honduras for mining projects.

Berta Cáceres, a hugely influential environmental activist, Indigenous leader, and winner of the 2015 Goldman Environmental Prize, was murdered in her hometown of La Esperanza, Honduras, on March 3. She would have turned 46 the next day. It is a tragic ending to the life of this courageous woman who risked everything to protect her beloved homeland from desecration.

Whether or not JT has "substance" is moot. Trudeau & family are visiting the USA. Said country has a love affair with all things celebrity. Trump is a celebrity. Reagan was a celebrity. Arnold was a celebrity. Jesse Ventura was a celebrity. Kim Kardashian is a celebrity.

The PM acts as a representative of Canada. He is in the United States. The view him as a celebrity (rightly or wrongly isn't the point). The country also has strong roots in traditional marriage & the family to which Trudeau's family fits to a T. It's symbolism.

As for the people who are embarrassed my guess is that most of them already disliked Trudeau. They're simply robot partisans who follow the party line. Nothing Trudeau could do would satisfy them. They want him out of office. They still can't get over the fact that he won & they "lost". And come the next election Trudeau will win again too.

Political slant aside, I really fail to see how JT doesn't have the substance to be a politician. He went to Washington. He's developed good relations with the most powerful person on earth (Obama). He's created a bridge between the two nations. That is EXACTLY what a politician is supposed to do. Last time I checked the economy of your province (and mine) relied heavily on trade with that country.

Trudeau and family have carried themselves with class on this visit to the United States. Good for him. Good relations is good for business.

We can't even begin to imagine how dangerous it is to be an activist in places like Latin America. A few years ago a Mexican blogger named Felina spoke out against a drug cartel in her Mexican town. The drug cartel butchered her & posted the murder (photos) on her Twitter feed. It is suspected that her killer was actually a follower using an alias. Prior to that, a faction of #Anonymous had challenged the drug cartel (@freeacuna) . They suddenly disappeared from the internet & have not been heard from again. @ Irv,

Yes I was thinking about how easy we have it when things like that are going on in other parts of the world. Our problems of whether J. Trudeau was 'embarrassing Canada' are just silly things. Seems like we live in a dream world here in Canada. Maybe we're lucky. We can argue over inconsequential things.

Canadians were so embarrassed by Mulroney in 1985 at the Shamrock summit that they elected him to a second landslide majority in 1988.

Oh definitely, Canadians do often forget how fortunate they are. I think that's just human nature though to argue over inconsequential things. Perhaps we're bored? I suppose it's much like commenting on a blog. In the end it's a pointless endeavour which fixes nothing at all.

RE: Trudeau & Obama State Dinner

I didn't vote for Mr. Trudeau because I think his economic plan is a bad one and his refugee plan is poorly thought out, but he hasn't embarrassed the country at all. I liked the job Mr. Harper did in the role and I would've voted for Mr. Obama both times he ran for President.
I think the visit to Washington was a great idea and it was fun to watch 'our' first family getting some attention for a couple of days in the US media.
Besides, we've seen what a benefit it is to both countries when the President and PM get along (Reagan/Mulroney, Clinton/Chretien) and how bad it is when they don't (Bush/Chretien, Obama/Harper), so let them break bread together-there is no negative in this :)

It's true. If someone writes a comment you don't like, it's me. Even when I'm working in a Faraday Cage without any cell or network connectivity. It was me. It was always me. And I want to apologize for surfing on computers without any network connectivity while doing forensics on them. It's my fault I made all that evidence inadmissible in court.

Due to this, I've just contacted Public Safety Canada along with CERT (Homeland Security) to advise them that I am a "threat" to society. I better turn off my webcam or the NSA will use the SET to turn on my monitor and watch me drink this beer.

I suppose I should contact the RCMP as well. As they handle "internal national security threats" it only makes sense. It's good though. I think I left my sunglasses at the Calgary detachment that last time I was there.

Doesn't Harper show a bit of conceit and ego by re-branding their government as the "New Government of Canada"? Doesn't he trade in our sovereignty by proposing to let US war planes fly over our air space? Didn't he want to do something stupid by saying we should participate to the Iraq war?

The demise of the Federal PC party wasn't due to Kim Campbell. It was due to the rise of Preston Manning & the Reform Party. Mulroney did what every other Quebec politician did. He ignored the West and put their concerns on the back burner. And at that time the West wasn't just a bunch of hick farmers anymore.

There are two types of Conservatives. The first is the suit and guy type who kisses the ass of corporations (Harper, Mulroney). The second is the grassroots type (think Ron Paul in the USA). Mulroney had become "Big Ottawa" and let down the West. You drive south of Calgary and you can still see signs that say "More Alberta, Less Ottawa". It was that arrogance that destroyed the Federal PC party. And to be blunt, it was that same arrogance that wiped out the Alberta PC's. Corrupt, big corporate ass kissers.

March 12, 2016 @ 12:58 PM

Irv

@Dawn

The newspapers have no choice but to give away their paper because no one is reading the paper copy. And the associated cost of that paper copy was all about the transportation of it. The tablet only thing is likely because you couldn't read the paper on a small phone (and there are many out there still).

There is apparently a newspaper in Montreal that spent millions building a digital version of the paper. I recall reading someplace that it was successful to some degree. I think what the papers need to realize is that even on a tablet, the "conventional" newspaper is dead. They need to rip the whole thing apart and come up with something different

But they likely won't. Media is a business owned by a bunch of old people resistant to technology. And would you pay to read the dribble the Star, Sun or Post creates? A typical newspaper is filled with either political conjecture or idiots who believe most of us really give a fuck what some actor was wearing. In this case it IS a case of substance versus fluff.

If you're in the media business, get out because you're going to get fired and be homeless and destitute sometime in the future. Same reason I stopped keeping up to date on Novell Netware years ago.

In cased you missed it, I wasn't banned from either radio forum. I asked years ago to be banned from SOWNY. And if you read Quad Cities (or do you need me to post the link) I ASKED to be banned because I was sick of starting threads which ended up being hijacked.

And I am not "Ziggy". My understanding is the person people assumed was Ziggy has started a lawsuit against some guy named Mike Cleaver. I quote "He goes on a personal vendetta to out Ziggy. He was proven wrong and hit with a major libel and slander suit as well as a DOS attack on the station Ziggy works at. Massive financial penalties and jail time upon conviction. And now he posts the following". As all court records, criminal or civil are public, logically the legal action would have my name tied to it.

So, I am not Ziggy. Further He even posted false video claiming the innocent person was an amateur. That is there and of record. The innocent party then contacted a recent former poster here and with his assistance, was able to confirm the originating IP of Mr. C thru a traceable .gif code. Using that information, an action was both launched in BC where the poster lives and Ontario, the home of the former moderator. That, too, is searachable and available for your review.

Said assistance was provided by ME. I gave said individual the information and showed him where to get the tools to find the information he required. Other than I don't know what he did with it. So again, I'm not Ziggy.

As for the use of my name, do you really think that alarms me? And why the anonymous attacks slick? Afraid to use your real name? And I didn't start any flame war. I posted on why the economy was weak (low oil) and said that was beyond Trudeau's control (or any PM). Then I was attacked.

I'm not upset over any conversation. I get tired of the constant bleating I'm some evil "troll" terrorizing forums. Let's hope you do the same and actually think about who started this.

@King & Weber: Obviously a reference to my home town. And I did post that. We also ascertained Dell murdered his father. The death was originally ruled a suicide but it made no sense. His father was just in the processing of setting up a charity for animals. Positive people don't kill themselves. Further, he apparently shot himself in the eye which also makes no sense. If you commit suicide with a gun it's usually under the chin or to the temple. It's a matter of how your hands work best holding a weapon. But the most telling give away was when I found Dell's "Gaming Account". I believe it was XBOX. He had a photo of himself with his eye shot out as his avatar. It struck me as beyond fucking odd (and creepy). It is in my OPINION that Dell Millard who is right up there with Bernardo. Given the guy owned a livestock incinerator (I believe he bought it in Winnipeg, likely to deter any paper trail) but has no livestock on his Ayr farm, well..it's not hard to raise an eyebrow.

Speaking of Waterloo Region, a 15 year old girl is missing there. Her name is Genevieve Catala. She has used several online "handles" --> emo_chick_gen" & "misspwediepie". The latter appears to reference a Swedish Youtube star. Whatever social media you use, copy and paste those in the search. If you find anything (comments, post, etc) that was recently made by her (last week or so) send it to Waterloo Regional Police. They may be able to extract information out of her. From what I read she has no phone but has a computer with her. Based on what I extract from photos, she's using a Mac. Downtown Kitchener (where she may be) is no place for a 15 year old girl.
