Bill the Shill is headed to Ottawa. He pushed out the long time host to take over the slot like he did with Ted Woloshyn.

Bill has been fired twice from the morning show spot. I give him 2 years before he's let go again.

My Coyotes won last night. Woohoo. That's so awesome. They are heating up again and that's a great thing. Hope they keep it up. The City Workers are still talking, but who knows if it's going well or not. My guess is probably not. My trainer lost on Tuesday. That means he can't even win Major League. St. Denis beat him. He has beaten St. Denis before. He should have done it again. That's awful my trainer lost. Stupid Bell is going to be in our building in March. It's all because some people want this Phibe junk. I want nothing to do with it, but they have to hook us all up, like run a cable through everyone's apartment. I want nothing to do with it. Okay, so maybe the internet would be faster, but I think that once people start using Bell, their internet will go down a lot and they'll complain and they won't want it anymore. I know all this. I used Bell for years and they're horrible. Sympatico went down at least a couple times a week and their customer service was so helpless and they can't speak English very well. Anyway, I am sticking with Primus. Primus never goes down and their customer service is great.

The CRTC got it wrong by ordering cable companies to order minimal channel packages. It will end up costing us more!
What they should have done is order the Cable companies to make all basic HD channels available without any of their digital boxes that are a plain ripoff.
Most tvs are digital ready and don't need a box!
When cable was introduced in the late 60's, you only needed a Jerrold convertor if you wanted to receive anything above the basic channels.

anyone know where Bill Hayes is now?

February 19, 2016 @ 9:00 AM

Jody Thornton

GUNTer, if you're speaking of the Bill Hayes I'm thinking of, he hosts the late night show from 10pm to Midnight on Wednesday at Newstalk 1010. He fills in many times on the weekend as well.

It sure seems that with the announced changes at TSN1050 that they are quietly pushing Mike Richards out. The excellent podcast that you did with him was quite revealing in that he seemed quite bitter about the way his morning show was managed and how it turned out. He seemed to candidly point the finger at management as well as the bizarre PPM scheme for the poor ratings. While he seems like a good guy and his beating cancer is very inspiring, the truth is that in 2016 listeners expect more insight to peak their interest. Funny voices and parody songs take a lot of talent but should not be the foundation of a sports show.

Hopefully the Naylor/Landsberg show captures the right mix of insight and entertainment to finally give Toronto listeners a sports focused morning show worth paying attention to.

Probably an obvious prediction but I'd expect Richards to play out the string and then make his exit from 1050. Will he last the year?

Dennis Wideman...Why the hell would he agree to turn over his phone? Those texts sure didn't do him any good. Wonder what will happen with the independent arbitrator.

February 19, 2016 @ 9:45 AM

GAry

I though the 20 games that Wideman got was nowhere near what he should have got. He should have been suspended for the rest of the year. The more I watch the video clip, the worse it looks.

TSN really dropped the ball on Tuesday not showing the PSG vs Chelsea Championes League match. I know it was on beIN sports but advertising themselves as "The new home of Champions League", TSN has to do everything in their power to get the marquee matchups.

Next week Juventus vs Bayern Munich won't be on TSN. Really sucks for fans of those teams.

And telecom companies wonder why streaming and cord-cutting is becoming so popular...

@JodyThornton
yes - thanks. im sad that Bill is down to a 2 hour shift (!!!!!) once per week and some fill ins.

Fk that, the linesman was in the way. Wideman should be exonerated, the linesman should be charged with loitering.

@David The CRTC ruling is a lame-duck ruling that comes 20 years too late, anyways. The cable companies will still find a way around it, won't get fined in any way, and will continue to gouge their subscriber base.

It's kinda the reason they're hemorrhaging customers-- and it is entirely the cable companies' own fault.

February 19, 2016 @ 2:34 PM

David

It is a shame and Highway robbery that consumers are held for ransom to get an HD signal for every one of their TV's even though all TV's built in the last 5-10 years are all capable of receiving all the unscrambled digital signals provided by the cable company.

The CRTC should have stepped in years ago when HDTV started to take off. The shame is on them. The ground rules should have been laid out at that time.

The cable companies are just capitalizing on the CRTC's lack of action, insight or KNOWLEDGE on the subject! What else is new?

Toronto Mike.....where are you? What are your thoughts on this?

February 19, 2016 @ 3:40 PM

David

It will be fascinating to see what silly packages are offered by the cable companies on March 1 to be in compliance of the CRTC ruling!

Hard day for me today at work. For 2nd time in last 10 years 2 people in our company's reception area with heart problems passed away before they got to the hospital. . Commotion galore & many of us older workers were telling others to leave & let the responders (Fire & Ambulance) do their job.

Saw it before & knew this person was gone before going into ambulance. Seen it a few times before & I knew.

A difficult day. Monday will be a somber day for sure.

Police have some explaining to do on this situation. Leaving passengers locked in a bus for 25 minutes with a 2nd degree murder suspect, while they loitered outside. Lucky the guy didn't go off and create a hostage taking situation.

There is no City worker strike for now, but they still have to vote and Council still has to vote so who knows, but for now there is no strike, but you never know. They could reject it. My Habs won last night. That's great. I told you the Habs will be hot. From now on, they will win every game, guaranteed. PK Subban is not going anywhere. Okay, I don't like some of the stuff he does, but he really is a good player. Habs won't trade him. My Suns lost, but my Nets won. I hate Bell. Thanks to some people in my building, stupid Bell has to come to every apartment and hook up cables. It sucks, but I am not going back to stupid Bell. I'm going to laugh when there are people complaining about their internet going down a couple times a week and Bell customer service is not helping them. It serves them right. They should get Primus. That's what they should do. I am not going back to Bell ever. I hate Bell.

Anyways, P.K. Subban will keep playing at the BELL centre. The Habs will never trade him anyways, P.K. LOVES playing at the BELL Centre. And anyways, Habs fans LOVE going to the BELL Centre to watch the Habs win every game they will ever play. At the BELL Centre.

February 20, 2016 @ 5:27 PM

Yawnie

So,anyways,we all know subban will finish his career at the BELL senter and so will Carrie Price she is the best even thou she never plays anymore anyways
Primus is the best anyways even tho it never ever goes down and nobody ever has to call customer service anyways there customer service is the best.bell always makes a mess when they come to istall I know that cause my trainer tells everyone that anyways Go Orlials they will win the world series I know that will happen anyways

I had Siobhan Morris on, she's at 1010. And Jim Richards, too.

And John Downs, Amber Gero and Mike Toth, who used to work there.

TBH, the only AM radio I ever hear is some 590.

My Coyotes lost. This is no good, but they lost 6 to 4. Lots of scoring in that game, but they still lost. My Habs didn't play last night which is unusual for no Habs on a Saturday night. Well, let's hope the City Workers accept their new contract, but who knows if they will or not. Anyway, I really don't want Bell to come into my apartment, but they have to come anyway because there are some idiots who want Bell. I wish I could convince them that Bell is no good because they really are no good. Okay, maybe this new Phibe thing is faster internet, but it's no good if it goes down twice a week and then they will be calling customer service and complaining. I know what Bell is like. I should have gotten rid of them a long time ago before I did. Primus is the way to go. They're the best.

Steve Edgar of Oakville, just heard your letter read on the CBC's 180. I have the same issue, here in Bronte. But my neighbors put their dogs out all year round. The upside is, they wake me in time to listen to Saturday's "The House" and The Sunday Edition.

urban suburban turban

Brilliant idea by Christopher Hume in the Toronto Star concerning 'air gondola' lines going down the Don Valley etc... to solve transit woes.

Completely far-fetched crazy liberal anti-car imagination. It will never work.

Except of course it has in an 'inferior' country not vast in 'rich culture' like our great white brains.

Medellín, Colombia is presently home to three Metrocable lines. Linea J and Linea K are both urban commuter lines that link directly to the city’s rail system. Linea L connects residents to Parque Arvi, a large park located on the outskirts of town.

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the team has acquired the San Jose Sharks’ second-round selections from the 2017 and 2018 Entry Drafts as well as forward Raffi Torres in exchange for defenceman Roman Polak and forward Nick Spaling.

February 22, 2016 @ 8:51 AM

Cheryl

Raffi Torres used to be a Coyote. Oh well. My Nets and Suns both lost last night. The inside City workers are working to rule. That doesn't really affect anything. It's the outside workers who are more important and we are supposed to get some snow this week so they better accept it. My Habs and Coyotes will win tonight. That will be good.

My Habs, Coyotes, and Suns all lost. What a night. This sucks. Baseball will be starting shortly and I know I used to hate baseball, but now I love it. I'm glad I renewed my subscription. My Orioles will do well and so will my Diamondbacks. I don't know why my Habs keep losing and my Coyotes keep losing. Who knows.

February 23, 2016 @ 6:54 AM

February 23, 2016 @ 9:40 PM

My Coyotes lost again and my Nets lost again. This sucks. Anyway, it's a bad streak. They keep losing. Anyway, baseball will start shortly. What I like about baseball is that there is more focus on similar players. The game is slower than hockey though, but it's the thing that I started to like about it. April 4 is in a little over a month.

How about those Habs. Great game. Capitols almost came back, but didn't. Two goals by Max Pacioretty. Wonderful. That's my Habs and they will be hot now, make the playoffs and play against my Coyotes in the finals. In less than two weeks, fricken Bell will be coming into my apartment. I really really don't want them to, but they have to. It's all because a few people want Phibe. I do not want it. As I said, once people get it, they will be complaining about Bell not working, about Sympatico being down. I don't know why they have to come to my place. I don't understand why they have to do that, but it's to install some cable or in case I want it. I do not want Bell. You see, Primus hardly ever goes down. It will go down once in a blue moon. Primus has great customer service. They won awards all the time for great customer service. Bell sure hasn't won anything.

I went on vacation for a couple of weeks, so I fell way behind on my podcasts.

I didn't even notice Geeks & Beats was shut down until I heard Mike mention it on the Rob Johnston episode. Guess I can stop that Patreon, but I haven't received the miracle travel mug of travelling I won in a draw!

Pity. I knew most of their stories from following ajournalofmusicalthings.com but still enjoyed the summaries and their banter. Also it was my main dose of Alan Cross as I just don't listen to radio these days.
