Happy Clinchmas Eve, Toronto

For the first time since 1993, our Blue Jays could clinch the A.L East pennant. It could happen tonight, as the Magic Number is only 2.

That also makes this the first time the Jays could clinch since I started blogging in 2002. There have been a few highlights over the years, as well as some lowlights, but nothing like this. This is absolutely fantastic.

Remember when Carlos Delgado hit four homers in one game?

Then, Roy Halladay won the Cy Young Award. That was pretty awesome.

Then, there was the season from hell. Click that link to see when we bounced off the bottom.

Cito returned, I witnessed a walk-off grand slam, and Johnny Mac hit a magical Father's Day home run.

Oh, and Jose Bautista hit 54 homers one year, setting a new franchise record. That's a lot of dingers.

Then, there were the teases. One big tease was just last June. We led the league, before returning to mediocrity.

But here we are, clicking on all cylinders. Happy Clinchmas Eve, Toronto. It's been a long time coming.

That game on Sunday was as good as any play-off win! This season has been so special for Blue Jays fans. We will even allow the bandwagon jumper- ons to enjoy the fun with us.

Love the post - you need an updated picture for the "Clinchmas Eve" does not work to have Colby, Anthony Gose and JA Happ.

It's been a long, long wait. I hope things work out so that the clinch happens on the field, not with the Jays in the locker room watching the Yankees lose. After 22 years, we deserve to see the on-field celebration.

Anybody know what the cost of MLB.TV will be for the post season? Will there be local blackouts (however, I guess I can use work's US-based VPN to skirt that restriction)?

September 29, 2015 @ 7:19 PM

My understanding is that mlb.tv is blacked out North America-wide for post-season. I'll certainly let you know if it works for me, or if I can find a way around it.

You know what'll kinda suck?

The Yanks will lose tonight, bringing the magic number down to 1.

Then, the Jays will win game 1 of the double header tomorrow. Pennant clinched!

But there can be no big celebration... no champagne... because in 30 minutes they have to play game 2.

One night say that you "jinxed" the weather tonight.

Go redsox, let's clinch tomorrow

@markosaar Once again, a useful post from you. Worth the trip to this blog!

PS. Where is Cheryl and "her" beloved Orioles??

How about the 2009 season when in Ricciardi's last year as GM, the team got off to a 27-14 start by the middle of May that year only to finish off 75-87. Talk about teases!

I am going to sit and watch the game this afternoon and enjoy it as a 'fan' would... I can't remember the last time I did that.

Let the champagne flow!
