Brother, Can You Spare a Wii?

The Nintendo Wii arrived for Christmas way back in 2007 and was an instant hit. If 2007 sounds like a long time ago, it's because it is. It's been eight years of Wii play in my home.

Wonderful Christmas

The last few years, however, the Wii has primarily been used as a weight loss tool for Dad and the family Mario Kart machine. That's the one game we all still love to play, and family tournaments are epic.

Sadly, the Wii is dead. It no longer reads discs, so Mario Kart is kaput.

Does anyone have a dusty old Wii lying around they no longer want? Brother, can you spare a Wii?

Why are you sitting in a box of pizza?

Are you under the impression that's me in the photo?

Yes, that was my impression.

Oops. Not sure why I came up as "anonymous".

Anyway, I just made you about 17 - 20 years old. Merry Christmas!

When I was that age (my boy is five in this photo), I'd have been sitting next to an Atari 2600.

But in reality, I ended up with an Atari 2600 clone called Gemini.

Still using mine. But you can pick them up $80 refurb at EB: https://www.ebgames.ca/SearchResult/QuickSearch?q=wii&platform=37&rootGenre=44

I'm sure any number of used game shops downtown will have the system to. You can probably pick up a NES at the same places. =)

We're in the same boat.

Our unit is slowly die-ing in a different way- I just refuse to put any more money into it. One day it will read a disc, the next day it won't. Disc isn't scratched in any way, either. Then the next day, it works again. I suspect it's a firmware problem that Nintendo obviously isn't going to address. It's been completely reset a few times- however the problem still randomly appears.

My wife found a PS3 on clearance, and a no tax day to boot. 3 controllers, PS3 headset and the unit for $130 all in. I'm excited. I mean, the kids are really excited.

If that falls through - I have one as well that is just collecting dust.

Just as an FYI: you can mod those things now to read games off a hard drive. If one were so incline and happened to have Wii games stored on a computer somewhere......

@fourteen

You made me laugh so hard this morning that I spilled my coffee ("Yes, that was my impression." + "Anyway, I just made you about 17 - 20 years old.").
Please, please come back and comment again. We need > fourteen, and

Anybody know why does wiki chokes on "& l t ;" as a replacement for the less than symbol ??

@Gump,

I assume you mean Mike's site rather than wiki?

I found previewing your post before submitting it messes up the override characters.

Too funny Mike. I had to go check in my old antiquated entertainment cabinet to see if I still had it (I do) so if the other offers don't work out let me know. Wouldn't be able to get it to you until the week after next though. I also have some kids VHS movies if you are interested!

Mike, I have had my share of cardboard pizza but never tried the wooden kind. To be fair, it does look good. :)
