No Wonder I Enjoyed Conan So Much

When Late Night with Conan O'Brien debuted in '93, I was instantly smitten. I watched every night and laughed my ass off. Those early years at 12:30 were magic.

No wonder... check out this 1993 pic of Conan O’Brien with his writers for Late Night with Conan O’Brien – Bob Odenkirk, David Reynolds, Robert Smigel, Andy Richter, Marsh McCall, Louis CK, Dino Stamatopoulos and Michael Gordon.

That's quite the lineup.

You're right, Late Night with Conan O'Brien was brilliant and a must-see. I had no idea Louis CK was a writer.

I loved watching Letterman first at 11:30, then Conan at 12:30. Which reminds me of one of my favourite Conan moments, when Letterman was a guest. I am paraphrasing here, and probably have part of this not word-for-word:

Letterman: How'd you get this job, anyway? Did you enter an essay-writing contest?
Conan: Yes, and I came third.

I don't watch late night shows much any more, but I still do enjoy Conan. I can't get into Fallon, who chuckles at his own jokes before finishing to deliver the punchlines. Seth Meyers is still hit and miss. Conan was great writer first, then became a great show host.

Conan's original show at 12:30 was great. Somehow his show today just doesn't seem to cut it.
