Spider-Man will finally be a part of the Avengers and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

That's both Amazing and Spectacular!

Eve Adams. These Cons are master greedheads. At least they are honest and transparent in their pursuit of their own interests and personal benefit.

For the record I don't hunt, I do eat meat and I agree with Don Cherry sometimes, but not all of the time.

Why the hell was social media attacking Cherry for jokingly calling Ron MacLean "barbaric or a savage" for eating a seal burger? Since when are the clueless masses of social media the great defenders of hunters? Is it possible, even in the slightest way, that they're only defending the seal hunt because its don't mostly by native hunters? I've never hear of them defending redneck Joe of Alberta who hunts deer.

In hindsight he could have easily referred to the seal hunt as a barbaric act committed by savages.

I would care about that if I was 10.

@Eekan
Adams and JT belong together - both are empty suits.

Yet another Spiderman reboot? Geez. I can't even fake outrage, because as tiring as this is getting...I'll still watch it. I still prefer Maguire over Garfield as Spidey.

BTW, here is some video of our show last Friday. We did something new, we got the whitest guy in our band who isn't too comfortable on the mic and we made him rap and he killed it!

I dislike Cherry. I mean, I really dislike the man. But the outrage over this is ridiculous.

I think people need to get over themselves and stop trying to tear down everyone that may have slighted them.

Focus on journalists who tell false stories. Focus on politicians that betray the public trust.

I find Don Cherry thoroughly entertaining. I often disagree with what he says, but I'm always interested in what he has to say. It's been this way for decades now.

Having said that, I didn't even notice this outrage. I'm not sure how I missed it, but I did. Maybe I follow the wrong (right) people on Twitter.

February 10, 2015 @ 9:11 AM

Don Cherry has become terribly irrelevant (and terrible in general) in recent years, but this outrage over his seal burger comments is hilarious.

It was clear to anyone who was watching that the man was just joking around. I honestly can't believe that anyone would think otherwise.

That being said, as a self-professed burger aficionado, I'm now very curious about trying a seal burger.

Hey Argie, although I am traditionally a Liberal voter, I will not vote for this whiner JT. Big fan of pere Trudeau, no time for la fils.

Not sure what to think about the Eve Adams move. I think it's a complete strategic move. JT gets Soudas and all the background info on the conservative party. I think Harper would have done the same thing, doesn't make it right, just a very political move.

On the other hand Harper made a big cabinet shuffle. This move feels like he is arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

I have a question for the hivemind.

Do any of you hunt?

I've never hunted, and have absolutely no interest in hunting. I'm wondering if any of you hunt and why you do it.

February 10, 2015 @ 9:37 AM

Ben V

I have never ever hunted and have no desire to. Most of this is due to the fact I don't want to hold or fire a gun.

I also enjoy eating my food and not seeing where it came from/how it's processed.

i.e., I used to be a consultant and had projects at a Heinz Pickle and Ketchup factory. I couldn't eat eithe of those items for about a year after.

February 10, 2015 @ 9:46 AM

Al The Royal Pain

I don't hunt and frankly couldn't hunt (been fishing a bunch, but couldn't bring myself to even kill a fish).

However, my best friend (since kindergarten) is an avid hunter. He's got all the guns, camo and even an actual bear rug (that he killed) in his basement. He's had me over to try bear & boar sausage, venison steaks and various other game fare. Being a meat-eater, I'd be a hypocrite if I objected, and i don't.

It's funny because many people I know who would find his love for hunting abhorrent probably don't understand that...for the most part...the people who have the most love and respect for nature and the environment are the hunters and fishers, and when it comes to issues involving how we deal with the environment (especially when it comes to our forests and lakes) we should really pay attention to what those who actually make use of our outdoors have to say. They have a much better grasp with the issues and what might be causing them.

Now, when it comes to gun control issues, my buddy and I differ drastically...but we just avoid that topic.

February 10, 2015 @ 9:50 AM

Irv

Arguing about politics & who is better is like arguing that the Russian mafia is less violent than the Algerian mafia.

@TorontoMike. I've gone hunting. People hunt for a variety of reasons. Some hunt because it's an economical way to feed their family. A deer license & a bullet is much cheaper than buying meat at the store. Others hunt for the "sport". I disagree with this. There is no sport when you're armed with a 30-30 and a scope. Still others hunt because to them natural game = safer and healthier than meat in the store. There is no hormones, etc in a deer or a rabbit you shoot in the forest.

Had the pleasure of hunting with some native guys. Very cool. First we buried our hunting clothes for a few days so the human smell was gone. Then rather than boots we wore a style of moccasin so our feet were quiet. And, when they did shoot something the first thing they did was give a gift to the "creator" to thank him for the gift of meat.

Hunting is natural. Cows in little pens are not.

February 10, 2015 @ 9:51 AM

Cheryl

No, I never hunted. I don't want to. I would be scared to carry a gun. I never had a seal burger. That would be interesting to try some time. I have tasted venison before, but I don't like it. I've gone fishing before, but it's boring. You're just sitting there waiting for the stupid fish to come, like listening to the paint dry. Well, my Coyotes won last night. That's great, but my Nets lost. I have Kean in the Brier pool. I was the first pick. I told the leader I wanted Kean again and I have Kean. I don't think anyone has picked yet though. Kean will win and be Team Canada in Worlds. Trust me.

February 10, 2015 @ 10:00 AM

Irv

@Ben V

I'd argue that hunting and seeing how your food is made is actually a good thing. If we are going to stop factory farming & processed food, we NEED to see that stuff. You want to fix the health issues of society? Let them see exactly where their food comes from. Change would be swift.

One of the problems of modern mankind is we are disconnected from nature. Even the "eco hippies" are disconnected from nature. They view it as a park & a place to go hike with their "North Face" jackets on (as if that makes them closer to nature). The disconnect is why we view nature as something to exploit versus what we live in.

February 10, 2015 @ 10:29 AM

Ryan G / hobogauntlet.blogspot.ca

I do not hunt and feel terrible for any animal that has to go through that terror. I must admit to feeling conflicted since I am by no means a vegetarian. Although I will continue to eat meat, I find myself generally becoming more sympathetic. A few years ago I wouldn't necessarily have a problem with say, a rodeo, or a circus, but I do nowadays. Poor bastards getting their balls strung up, flipped over at high speeds, or balancing on a ball wearing a tutu.

A summer dress I understand, but a tutu is tutu far.

ps - Cheryl - fishing is inherently boring - that' s why it's called fishing and not catching. I once went ice fishing in north bay and the stench when you first walk into those huts is something I will never un-smell. The hilight of the weekend was constantly getting challenged to fight by rednecks in the local bars because their women liked us city boys, mostly because we were the only ones not wearing baseball caps and Snap On tools jackets.

Hey Argie

Thoughts on this video ?

February 10, 2015 @ 10:42 AM

Ben V

Irv: I don't necessarily disagree with you. I personally don't eat a lot of hyper processed food. i.e., ready made meals from M&M's, frozen boxed meals from the grocery store or a lot of fast food.

I don't know that if everyone hunted or had to kill an animal at least once before they ate it that it would stop facotry farming. It's all a matter of what you become used to. Travelling to other countries you get to see how non-chalant they are about killing animals and eating parts of those animals I may never dream of eating. It doesn't change their eating habits overall. I'd also argue that North America major grocery stores don't sell all of the parts off of animals, but doesn't mean all those parts not sold in their stores go to waste.

I do think it's important to understand when you get $0.40 chicken wings at your local pub or head over to the mandarin for an all you can eat buffect complete with chicken balls, that chances are they came from a factory of over fattened and over drugged birds.

I do agree with you about the disconnect with nature. There is a lot of disengenous people out there. I find Yoga enthusiasts to be some of the worst. Raving about how they eat organic cucumbers and tomatoes, meawhile they are all decked out in lu lu lemon attire from head to toe. Just because you pay $50 for a bottle of organic shampoo or body wash doesn't mean you are more caring towards Gaia. Or all the people on the paleo diet, yet they wear nothing but Under Armour and drive around in big cars.

I own north face jacket, as I have two dogs and walking in this weather necessitated the purchase, vs. trying to be closer to nature.

@Argie: Video is actually realistic. It's filmed in Ireland & that is representative of "yob" behavior. A yob is UK slang for hooligan. It's likely the thugs in the video are portraying the "English Defense League" (anti Muslim & sometimes anti gay). They're well known to anyone involved in national security or intelligence in the 5 eyes. The song is great and has been prominent on radio (Top 40 and Alt rock) for a year

@Ben V. You know, I was looking at a North Face jacket this weekend in Banff. I figure if I'm going to end up being a mountain guy I better fit the part LOL. They do make nice stuff and I shop at MEC for footwear & outdoor stuff. Wearing a military jacket doesn't sit well when you take your wife out to eat at Chateau Lake Louise & I'm liable to get popped by some crazy radical. As for LuluLemon it's EVERYWHERE in Vancouver. Vancouver = no sense of fashion at all.

@Ben V 2. I saw a lovely CBC bag with the label on & took a picture to send to Toronto Mike. He called it "exploding pizza". I'm going to surprise him at Christmas.

Wrong again, my delusional friend. What you described might have happened 20 years ago. Today, its muslim gangs beating up Jewish teenagers and gay men. Oh and of course there is a nasty matter of their rape gangs. http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-28934963

A roller coaster of a day. Heard that 1 of my freinds passed away late last night from ALS at 52. A godsend for him & his family. Saw him a month ago & knew imminent & so did he. He fought to the very end.

Wife had surgery today for her Chrones disease & all went well. Supposed to stay overnight, but the doctor said if she "has a movement" & is up to it she can go home.

She is now watching TV & saying she is going into work for a "short time" tomorrow. She is a trooper.

Grandson is growing too fast & already standing up with help & not even 2 months old - 12/13/14.

Life goes on & the Leafs still Suck.

Christofascism (the name being a portmanteau of Christian and fascism) is a concept in Christian theology first mentioned by Dorothee Sölle, a Christian theologian and writer, in her book Beyond Mere Obedience: Reflections on a Christian Ethic for the Future in 1970.[1][2][3] To Sölle, Christofascism was caused by the embracing of authoritarian theology by the Christian church. According to Sölle, it is an arrogant, totalitarian, imperialistic attitude, characteristic of the church in Germany under Nazism, that she believed to be alive and well in the theological scene of the late 20th and turn of the 21st century.[4][5]

Dale, sorry about your friend, but glad your wife is feeling better. So your grandson can walk at two months old. My trainer's son is 13 months old and he is just starting to walk. How about those Habs last night. I thought they were going to lose it, but they won 2 to 1 with David Descharnais scoring the OT goal. My Coyotes, Suns and Nets all lost, and the Leafs lost as well. Good that the Leafs lost. I'm pumped up about the Brier. I have Kean. One guy has Jacobs and another guy has Koe. People are slowly picking their teams. Oh, someone picked Menard already. Kean will win it though. I said they will and go off to Worlds. If there is a Worlds pool and Kean is in it, then there might be lots of people who want Canada and I would have to take someone else. Anyway, Kean is winning the Brier. Bring on the Brier.

@Anonymous: The silence from the Christian community is deafening. Where are the Christian leaders denouncing these actions? I haven't heard a single Bishop speak out against it. Every single one of them should be on every TV show they can get on decrying the actions of their Christian member.

I mean, I'm not racist or Christian-phobe or anything-- but it's really worrying when you think about just how many of them there are. It's like every country just ignores their immigration laws and lets anyone in as long as they're white or claim to be a Christian refuge. And then they just start having kids. I was downtown the other day, and it's like you can't go past a single street corner without coming across a white Christian church. They're like Starbucks.

They're even going after our kids. My nephew's in school now, and I swear his class is over 50% white. And the teachers just fall over themselves to make sure they're "accommodated"-- it's ridiculous. Every single student is FORCED to observer their holidays. They even shut down the entire school board just so they can "observe" their religious holidays. And I bet they all they all just skulk away behind closed doors into their churches and sing in a weird foreign language (latin or whatever). It's really creepy the way they way they do that-- why do they have to gather together like that. And you know they're reading from that "book of peace" with all the mass murder and wrathful god.

I'm not saying we need to kick all the white Christians all out of our country or anything, but it's only fair for OUR safety if we think about limiting their numbers, maybe just ask them to not hold so many religious ceremonies. I have some friends who are white and Christian, but they're not all like that. What will happen if we leave this unchecked, and one day there's more of them than us, and suddenly they decide it's time to declare another "Crusade". I lose sleep at night thinking about it.

Thanks to all for your comments with my loss of a dear friend of mine. Best possible solution even though I HATE to write about it.

The Sabres made a BIG splash with trades today evolving for the future & so did Winnipeg. Both teams will be a lot better next year.

What have the Leafs done other than putting Kessel on the 4th line last night & putting him in a red jersey today during practice as a fringe 4th liner or sitting for the next game.

DAH !!!!!!!!! Shanny or whoever get your @$$ is gear & do something NOW. Trade deadline day is a joke just teams getting rental players for the rest of the season.

Well, the Raptors had to win last night. No good. Anyway, Habs win tonight. Guess what's happening on Saturday. It's Leafs at Habs. Habs will win really big. I know that.

Anyway, I'm more excited about the Brier. Bring it on. Anyway, Grocery Gateway ripped me off again. My order came 45 minutes latte. They have two hour window deliveries so you would think that they could be on time, but they can't. Also they had my order mixed up. I was putting stuff away and some stuff wasn't right. The driver called me and said it was mixed up so he came back. I had to fish in the fridge for stuff I already put in and gave it back to the driver, but there is a can of something that I overlooked still in the fridge. Lorne is obviously being facetious but he makes a good point. The media coverage of Chapel Hill was rather slow in the coming as well. Further, the guy who did the shooting is (mostly) being presented as a murdered rather than a terrorist. God knows if this was a Muslim guy who shot 3 Americans we'd have a squadron of F35's overhead & the media would be forever updating us with each detail.

And like Lorne, I get tired of the request to have "Muslims" apologize for the radicals that are part of that religion. I'm a white blonde male. I don't have to apologize for the actions of Paul Bernardo. I don't make it a point to emphasize that because I share characteristics of Bernardo, I am not like him.

Tim there is a difference between radical anything and "normalized". Believe me, there are lots of good old fashioned White Canadians who are under surveillance & monitoring because they are radicalized. Some of the most radical folks are animal rights activists but we're able to differentiate between a guy who believes we shouldn't randomly shoot dogs to someone willing to firebomb a KFC. Hell, I'm pretty sure I was under surveillance at one time. Sometimes I wonder if I am now too (and given my job I'd expect it). Watch the Watchers.

It's a follow up article like this in the star that pisses me off even more.

Slightly even more infuriating is the fact that the first article was presented as news and then this one gets posted as an opinion/commentary piece.

Especially as the first article perpetuates the anti vaccine crowd mentality.

Once again, I completely disagree with you. I watched CBC newsworld last night. Every few minutes the crawl on the bottom of my screen kept telling me "3 muslims killed in North Carolina". Shouldn't it have said "3 PEOPLE killed in N Carolina"? But no it all changes when muslims are killed.

Either way its tragic and the bastard that did it should go away for life but the MSM certainly is making it about religion before we even know the details. Who knows maybe he did target them because of their religion. What we do know is that he was an angry atheist who hated ALL religions.

February 12, 2015 @ 10:49 AM

Ben Vidal

@Argie: Isn't it the same way news reports were stating that Christians were being killed in the middle east? Shouldn't they just write they are killing people?

Pretty sure you also commented on that in an open mike as well.

February 12, 2015 @ 11:23 AM

Argie

@Ben
You're joking right? When 1000s of people (both Christian and muslim) are killed in that hell hole, their religions should be reported.

You can now respond back with a predictable "of course when its only 3 people, it doesn't matter, right?" Go ahead, I'll give you the last word.

February 12, 2015 @ 11:36 AM

Irv

@Argie. So disagree with me, do you think I care? By media standards, it took a very long time to hit the networks in the United States. Same way the slaughter by Boko Haram was slow to hit the news & then intelligence pointed out some of the news media facts were wrong. I'm pointing out the biased nature of mainstream media & the manifestation of stereotypes.

The bias of the media & their motivations are clear. And I mean ALL media, not just a certain political leaning strip of it. I had a chuckle over Brian Williams getting fired for "lying" LOL. This from a media system that..embellishes the truth ALL the time LOL.

Did this guy shoot those people because of their religion? It's very possible. His method of execution (and the extreme level of it) demonstrate absolute rage. Was it directed at them because they were Muslim or because they were religious? Right now we don't know, but I'd say it was, at least somewhat, a factor. He's a radical extremist Argie, but should the worlds atheists need to apologize for his behaviour?

If 'radical' Islam ran this country we'd be up shit creek without a paddle. Belly dancing and poet and mathematician and 'regular' Muslims are okay with me. Fortunately that radical Muslim takeover, well, it's not going to happen. But wait. There are 'radical' capitalists and corporatists and fundamentalist, hard-right Christians that want to fuck us up just as well. Personally I think George Carlin hit the nail on the head when he said they want everything, including your social security.
