Well, the Blew Jays have to win 1 out of their final 3 games just to have an over 500 season. What looked like a very special season(the first in over 20 years) has turned out to be very average.

Ok Mike, spill the beans.

H+F put on a good show but it's crystal clear Humble and Lady Friend are no more. What's up?

Is it the same old story? Young women uses older man for breast implants and leaves him for younger man?

"baseball been betty-betty good to me"

Since AA and Gibbons are coming back next year, expect the same level of mediocrity in 2015.

September 26, 2014 @ 9:09 AM

The Jays won't win again this season. The Orioles will sweep them. It's Chris Tillman on the mound tonight, then Wei-Yin Chen tomorrow and Miguel Gonzalez on Sunday. My Orioles will win again and sweep the Jays, trust me and my Orioles will do well in the playoffs and go on to win the World Series. I love my Orioles and I always will. I just wish there would be some way to speed up a slow game like a clock in baseball or something like that. Ravens will win on Sunday over Carolina. My Cardinals don't play as they have a bye. My trainer's team is curling in Kitchener with my trainer not curling. Dale Matchett is taking my trainer's place.

With your Orioles home and cooled out and preparing for the playoffs and my Jays long done like dinner, look for a Jays sweep.

As I said in the last Open Mike, that's not my story to tell. Howard will talk about it when he's ready.

September 26, 2014 @ 9:18 AM

@ Stan

It's not Mike's place to talk about Howard's relationships on a public blog.

I hate that Maple Leafs Square is going to be renamed Ford Square, just as much as I hated that Skydome was renamed (I will continue to call it Skydome, at least until I get a great deal like Mike did !!)

Doesn't matter if you like baseball or not. Twas a brilliant storybook ending to Jeter's career in his last home game at Yankee stadium. It had it all. No I mean it. It really...had it all.

The cynical side of me wonders if Baltimore was throwing him meatballs, but they have something to play for and even tied the game up late, escalating the dramatic tension tenfold. I'll forgive the Yankees' broadcaster for acting like it was game 7 of the world series, because in a was. This was Jeter's night and the moment was bigger than the game itself. It was Rocky and Field of Dreams and every other cliche'd sports movie. The stage was set, and in true Jeter fashion, he delivered just like he has done so many times before.

Last night's game was a modern day sizzle reel for MLB, and by extension, good 'ol American values. We've all seen the old timey grainy film with Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle and the like, but as decades go by, these icons naturally lose a little bit of lustre. Enter Derek Jeter, who has rightly taken his place among these sports heroes for today's generation of baseball fans.

Make no mistake. I realize it's only a game, and a child's game at that, but it's no different than the joy this city and country felt when the Jays won it all, and Gretzky or Crosby scored the winning goal. I'm not a Yankees fan and I'm certainly not a believer in unicorns and rainbows, but you gotta hand it to 'em, it was a magical evening in the Bronx.

September 26, 2014 @ 9:37 AM

@Rick 2
From now on I'll be referring to it as "Rob Ford" square.

September 26, 2014 @ 9:45 AM

In regards to ML Square..I like Jurassic Park but it doesn't' apply to the Leafs at all..they should give it a name that represents Toronto and all the sports here..but let be honest everyone will keep calling it Maple Leaf Square no matter who the says the names changed.

Wondering who has managed to watch a game (NFL/CFL/MLB/NBA) from start to finish? Not sure if it's just a matter of being out enjoying the summer/fall, the games being too long or just seeing too many average games. I'm sure many people can add the NHL to that list although generally I find the games are shorter (same quality issues though) and so a bit easier for me to consume. I'm thinking that the FIFA World Cup was probably what I last watched from start to finish. Just curious.

September 26, 2014 @ 9:59 AM

@ Anonymous

I've watched 85 Jays games from start to finish. I've also seen numerous CFL and MLS games too boot.

It pays the bills.

Well, so my post posted twice. Things happen. Anyway, my trainer's team just lost 7 to 4 to this Michaud team. That sucks. They play again at 5:00. I think maybe my trainer needs to be there for them to win, who knows.

I already know what my hell will look like: Every channel I turn the TV to will only have curling on. Men's, women's, junior, senior, disable.

The closest thing to this is turning the TV on to our many sports stations in March.

Must do my best to avoid hell.....

I watched lots of OHL last year (it helped that my Storm were pretty F'n good last year). I'll watch WAY more OHL than NHL again this year.

In my life, I've watched thousands of Jays games from first pitch to last out.

The last several years, however, I find I only watch chunks of the Jays games when I do bother to tune in.

I do, however, watch every Leafs game I'm available for, from the first minute to the final buzzer.

I also watch a bunch of complete Raptors games, although sometimes I tune out and back in again for the fourth quarter.

I no longer watch NFL or CFL.

Whoa buddy, I mean no disrespect to Humble. In fact, I'm a fan and listen regularly. A also read this blog regularly. "Stan" is not my real name but my tribute to the world's greatest office dog!

But Humble is in his 50s and got great satisfaction and loads of content from sharing details of his relationship with Amanda "Lady Friend" Watson. Every show had stories of his sexual renaissance and cohabitating with a young, sexy woman and the breast enlargement and whole 9 yards.

Then, around the time Ashley Madison came on board as a sponsor, she disappeared from the show. No more stories about her, no more mentions, she was erased.

As you and @Toronto Mike said, it's Humble's story to tell, but why no explanation or stories as to what happened? I mean this respectfully as a fan, it's strange this is off the table and has been for so long.

Remember when that guy commented here about Ashley Madison's sponsorship upsetting Lady Friend? Remember how we laughed it off? Looking back, there might be something there.

Just like Rinse! He came here and said Rob Ford smoked crack and we all laughed it off and then the video! Some things seem funny at the time and then turn out to be bang on.

Dear Humble: The Truth will make you free.

Doug Ford doesn't appreciate the cost of $80/person for the "common folk" to attend the Empire Club debate today - 45 minutes before it's to start. Yet earlier this week he had a "campaign gathering" whereby HE charged $75/person & has another in next few days for more $/person.

@ Cheryl
When you first starting to follow baseball you also loved the Diamondbacks & you haven't said anything since. Because they are the WORST team in baseball you change you allegiance to one of the best. In case you missed it Cheryl the Arizona baseball team today fired their 2 top coaches. You probably don't know who they are.

Derek Jeter - nothing to say except what a great career & even better finish last night against Cheryl's team. Possibly the first player ever voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame with 100% acceptance on the 1st ballot.

One of my best freinds passed away last week with ALS & actually did the challenge in his wheelchair in early August. He was 52.
Love Ya Bryce. My heart is with your family & freinds.

Does no one remember the polls that said the June provincial election was "too close to call" when in fact Wynne won by huge margin??
Why do the news outlets keep giving these polls credibility?

September 26, 2014 @ 6:47 PM

Why doesn't The Fan or TSN Radio 1050 have a sports trivia game show on a regular basis in their radio schedule? Have 3 contestants answering sports questions from Tim or Sid for big prizes. And since the Fan broadcasts many of it's shows on Sportsnet it might make some great TV.

The problem with all sports stations is it rarely deviates from talking about the previous nights game and interviewing out of town beat reporters. It's time to change things up.

The new TSN site is horrible. I listen to 590 (Sportsnet) by default but always go to TSN for visual. Granted, the old TSN site was getting tired but- wtf?
My desktop monitor looks like a giant phone app now.
Everybody is using the exact same web/app style now, even CBC. Big pic, short headline, vertically stacked.

The Sportsnet site has always been visually terrible. Now to choose, terrible or horrible.

September 26, 2014 @ 8:08 PM

TSN's new site is terrible - cannot get a lot of videos especially OTR with Landsberg which I watched frequently. Sportsnet site is better than new TSN but time to change also.
Bothe Terrible & Horrible.

Just like their radio stations. The only person I listen to is Bob McCowan on drive home from work.

Q107 listener also & losers with new format of JUNK. I gave up 2 months ago.

So, when Rogers bought the rights to NHL games for a shit ton of money, wasn't it stated that there wouldn't be any blackouts? Or was I hearing things? I don't know, and not that it really matters.
Anyway, for the past 3 or 4 years I was able to catch all regional Habs games on TSN Habs on Shaw Direct. Looks like I'm shit out of luck this year though, unless I decide to dish out 200 bucks for Centre Ice or Game Centre Live and that ain't gonna happen. So basically, when Habs games are blacked out, my options are to either listen to it on the radio streaming TSN690, or try to find some sort of 3rd party stream online. Very frustrating!

September 26, 2014 @ 8:57 PM

@jason: "no blackouts" is to "you can watch any game" as "free phone" is to "$935".

(hey, look, unbridled snark! things get better one step at a time)

September 26, 2014 @ 9:54 PM

Well, yes, I didn't say anything about the Diamondbacks. They're cleaning office, that's for sure. Anyway, they'll be in the thick of things next year with my Orioles. My Orioles lost last night. that was no good. It sucked. Well, they'll win today. How about those Habs though. They beat Colorado again. Wonderful. My Coyotes also won in overtime. That's wonderful. My Trainer's team won the next two games so they are 2 and 1. Hopefully they can win the spiel.

September 27, 2014 @ 6:21 AM

I saw what you get on you wireless. Wife has the same comparatively and last bill was $71 and change. They are definitely adding in the cost of the phone. She uses that Samsung thing the big one.

BTW, if you all want to save on your data plan, log out of Facebook. I kept noticing my wife used a lot of her data plan. I thought it was from her streaming audio but she told me it wasn't. So I put a packet sniffer on the phone and captured the data all night. Turns out it was Facebook late at night with several updates which were substantial. If you want to be an active FB type, have it email you updates, etc. It's cheaper. And that FB messenger thing makes it work.

Carriers love these apps. They consume data sometimes even if not being used. It's like leaving your water taps running and paying by the gallon.

September 27, 2014 @ 7:40 PM

The game sucked today. My Orioles lost. It was an awful game with three errors in the game. They better not play that way in the playoffs and they won't. My Trainer's team lost the last game. They are 2 and 2 and they got knocked out so no trainer's team tomorrow. Anyway, Ravens will win tomorrow. That will be great. They'll beat Carolina tomorrow. Ravens are going to be in the Superbowl with my Cardinals. I love the NFL. It's great. I'm going to win the money. I have five wins already. I will have six wins after my Ravens win tomorrow. My Cardinals don't play tomorrow because they have a bye.

September 27, 2014 @ 9:09 PM

@guest: we talk about multiculturalism, because it's important, even moreso in the face of something like that. Because if we don't talk loud about the difference between a culture of people, and a faction of murderers, then too many people will confuse the two and assume they're one and the same.

September 27, 2014 @ 11:40 PM

Well, big sports day today. I'm not going to listen to baseball today because my Ravens are playing and I want some football. Ravens are going to beat the Panthers big time. I want my money. I'm the only girl in the pool and the girl is going to win all the money. I only have one loss so far so it will stay that way. Also my Habs play tonight at 6:00 against Washington.

Chess should be a required subject in school. I can think of 20 educationally-desired behaviours it teaches: skills, aptitudes, abilities, strategies. Including the most important question of all, 'why?' Why did my opponent do that? What is his/her goal? What is 'in play' I have not detected? What is he/she hoping to accomplish with this manouvre? Studying chess is like studying power and politics accomplished through media, economics, and war.

September 28, 2014 @ 12:02 PM

Well, how about those Ravens. I told you they would do it. I have six wins now. Nobody else does I don't think. I am leading in the pool. Anyay, it was 38 to 10. The Baltimore ravens are the best. My Orioles did win as well 1 to 0. Great. They face the Tigers. They will beat the Tigers, then beat the Angels and then beat the Nationals to win the World Series. Looks like it will end some time in November. My Habs play tonight at 6:00. They'll win tonight.

Well, I'm definitely at the top of the pool. My Ravens are 3 and 1 and my Cardinals are 3 and 0 so I have six wins and nobody else has. Great, isn't it. Anyway, Orioles play on Thursday. They'll beat the Tigers, no problem. It will go in three games. Then they will beat the Angels in four or five games and then beat the Nationals in four or five games. I'll be right. I'm sure about that. My Habs lost yesterday. It was 2 to 0. No good at all. Well, they'll win the next one and win the opener on October 8 over the Leafs big time.
