I'm seeing this way too much on f-book & twitter:

BEST.POST.EVER.

Come on people, don't be a clone, show some originality.

February 28, 2014 @ 8:56 AM

Speysidephil

@Argie

Why are you looking at f-book and twitter? They are a waste of good time ?

February 28, 2014 @ 8:59 AM

Toronto Rayray

Random thoughts:

The Fords are comic relief. Can't take 'em seriously, entertaining as all hell.

We need a Toronto Mike app. It would be wicked awesome for the podcast especially.

I hate doing taxes.

I don't think Todd Shapiro can carry his own show as he's more of a sidekick. I wish him well, but I'm skeptical.

I'm hungry and want an Egg McMuffin.

Facebook is only a waste of time if you friend people you don't care about. When you care about your FB friends, it's always worthwhile checking in.

As for Twitter, again, it depends on who you follow. I'm a very big fan.

February 28, 2014 @ 9:03 AM

Argie

@Speyside
I agree they both are a waste of time but frankly, I'm always entertained by stupidity. Its another reason I come here.

February 28, 2014 @ 9:14 AM

@Argie

How ironic.

February 28, 2014 @ 9:20 AM

@Declan
It is ironic when someone uses that word when they don't really know what the meaning of it is.

I saw Alan Thicke on TV this week promoting a new show he is starring in.
His face doesn't look real. I guess from plastic surgery, Botox whatever. Has anyone else seen him recently, it really is quite grotesque .

@Torotno Rayray

Nice... I want an egg mcmuffin now, too.

February 28, 2014 @ 9:31 AM

Kenny Rogers is my benchmark for grotesque plastic surgery. I don't think its at that level yet

I actually had a face-to-face with Alan Thicke a couple of years ago. He's likely doing something... botox or whatever... but I agree with Wayner that we haven't hit Kenny Rogers territory yet.

February 28, 2014 @ 9:39 AM

Speysidephil

@Mike &Wayner

Yep have to agree Kenny tops the list.

February 28, 2014 @ 9:42 AM

Speyside,Mike&Wayner,

I don't believe you guys can comment on the state of Kenny Rogers' face since he lives in the US and its falls under another jurisdiction. Just sayin'.

Now that the Olympics are over and the Leafs are playing, we can all go back to bitching about David Clarkson and his retarded contract.

David Clarkson has an awful contract, but it's our awful contract.

February 28, 2014 @ 10:21 AM

@Mike
I love how Nonis is saying "we wont be doing much at the trading deadline." Well of course you wont be doing much - you're screwed with Clarkson's contract.

@ Bottom Feeder & Rayray - I just grabbed a McMuffin on my way back from a meeting....man that hit the spot.

@ Argie- Ironically enough...that's why I read your posts...

1) I've always enjoyed Piya Chattopadhyay whenever she does fill in work for CBC Radio 1 (Metro Morning the last couple of weeks and next week for Q) or The Agenda on TVO. I wish she had a regular gig. She's fantastic.

2) I took a chicken legs out of the freezer this morning. Does anyone know a good marinate I could use with them? I plan BBQ them tonight for dinner.

February 28, 2014 @ 10:30 AM

Argie

@Glen
She's OK but she's no Erin Burnett.

February 28, 2014 @ 10:37 AM

Philly-Bob

@ Glen - I'd suggest either white wine with some garlic in it, or a nice teriyaki marinade (you can buy it at any grocery store)

February 28, 2014 @ 10:46 AM

Andrew

@ Glen

Crushed or liquid garlic
soya sauce
hoisin sauce
chilis
salt
pepper
scallions or green onions
little bit of sugar.

put in a bowl, mix, cover the legs.
make sure you let the legs drain for a bit before putting them on the bbq - the little bit of sugar will cause flames.

Cheers,
Andrew

Habs won and Leafs lost. That's wonderful. Daniel Briere scored twice. My Coyotes lost though. Hopefully my Suns win tonight.

They're predicting more snow tomorrow. That's not a good thing. I had enough winter. It's either really cold or it warms up and snows. I'm going to be in a 5 km race on March 16. If it's going to stay frigid cold like it probably will knowing this year's winter, then I'm not going. There is no way I am walking 5 km in frigid cold. A short walk is bad enough. If I don't go I lose money because I have to pay for this. I'm going with my trainer. I will lose money if I don't go because there is no refund. Please let it warm up for that day if nothing else and no snow, even if it has to get cold days before or days after that.

@Toronto Mike

I've listened to your podcast since episode 1. That means I've heard 70 of them now.

In 2014, you've been fantastic. Seriously. The guests, content and hosting is 10x better in 2014 where I'd now put your show up against any.

Just thought I'd pump your tired but I don't mind because it's true. Your last 10 episodes are best than most I hear on radio: sattelite or terrestrial.

TO all who bashed TO Mike on his post about veggie shakes...

I have been doing it for three weeks now, every morning I mix some juice, berries, Greek Yogurt, spinach and kale. I have more energy than I can remember in a long time, I feel a lot "healthier" and I've dropped another inch off my waist...and Mike is right, you can't taste the veggies at all.

So, Thank-You TO Mike!!!!

(Oh, and Lorne, once again, thanks for that tomato sauce recipe..I'm never going back to store bought)

31 years ago tonight, the final episode of M*A*S*H aired on TV. Anyone remember it?...Jeez, I am old..

@ Mike - I stand corrected. Having Re-read

http://www.torontomike.com/2014/02/how_im_eating_my_greens.html

I now see that the closest to basing on there is Corey doubting it tastes good (I had my doubts too Corey, but it really does taste awesome. I find using vanilla Greek yogurt and orange juice gives it an almost creamsicle type flavour) and McNulty calling you a hippie.

However, Yeah..they're great!!!!

February 28, 2014 @ 1:06 PM

So the Leafs managed to give up two goals short handed on one power play..That's impressive..not good impressive but impressive non the less..

Clarkson COntract - Isn't time to move on from that...Most were wrong about Kessel trade so this might go the same way..give it some time..

I thought Bernier was awful last night. That second short hander was all on him.

February 28, 2014 @ 1:55 PM

mrmojorisinca

Yeah one every 5 games or so he has a big gaff like that...I don't get it...solid in most other areas..

February 28, 2014 @ 1:57 PM

McNulty

Still a hippie.

February 28, 2014 @ 1:58 PM

Philly-Bob

Ya know what grinds my gears?

People in Montreal who say "Course you need a Montreal goalie to win Gold!!" Cary Price is from Anahim Lake, BC.

If, in 4 years, the NHL decides to go to Korea, and Bernier keeps playing the way he is, it is likely that he will be on that team. If we win gold with Bernier in net, I don't want to hear one frenchie claiming him as theirs. He plays for the Toronto Maple Leafs, you can't have it both ways.

....damn French

February 28, 2014 @ 2:23 PM

Lorne

@Philly-Bob: Glad to hear that! Enjoy. =)

February 28, 2014 @ 2:41 PM

Wayner

Anyone out there driving VW Tiguan? Good or lemon?

February 28, 2014 @ 3:29 PM

Corey

@Phil

Wow, that must really grind your gears, since it's the second time you've posted it in a week. I actually haven't met (or read) a Hab fan that thinks Price is actually born in Montreal, or Quebec for that matter. Are you sure they're not just boasting that he's a Canadien?

February 28, 2014 @ 5:07 PM

Rick C in Oakville

@4x4, wow that long with the Mash final episode. Watched well into reruns, but only caught Hawkeyes leftie view a few years later( Yes i'm a slow learner, but in my defence enjoyed the quick wit of the show). The family of the creator of the program were disappointed when it took the sharp left.
Bet Chief Blair's lead investigator on the Ford file has many a new one that has been ripped into his back end, after letting opportunities to haul him in were missed. Let's see if Ford gets at least a DUI in the next couple of months.

@Andrew

The soy sauce marinade worked great. Thanks.

Here's the trailer for the new Godzilla movie. It's directed by the same guy who made "Monsters". I loved that movie.

February 28, 2014 @ 6:28 PM

Andrew

@ Glen

Great! Glad you liked it. It really only works with dark meat like legs or thighs. The meat seems to absorb the marinade better than white meat... and I always find dark meat has more flavour to begin with.

You can really do it with a whole chicken too on a spit. You just increase the ingredients as needed. Stuffing the chicken with some lemons and Chinese 5 spice seems to work too.

Cheers!
Andrew

February 28, 2014 @ 8:30 PM

Philly-Bob

@Corey - that was my point. It is because he's a Hab. So, if Canada wins with Bernier down the line in an Olympic or revived Canada/World cup, they can't claim him too. It's either where he's from, or where he plays. I have a lot of friends who are Hab fans, all I've been hearing for the past two weeks is "Our goalie this and our goalie that" ....same guys who we're claiming Luongo 4 years ago cause he was "born and trained there"......

February 28, 2014 @ 9:00 PM

Philliy-Bob

Anyone else think the Blues have the Cup locked up....Miller and Ott...glad they're in the West

February 28, 2014 @ 9:01 PM

Argie

What the hell is going here? I take the afternoon and this is what happens? The only thing of note is philly-bob LeBeouf plagiarizing himself.

Today's open mike is about as exciting as a Baptist wedding.

February 28, 2014 @ 10:35 PM

Cheryl

My Coyotes lost but my Suns won last night. Anyway, Habs over Leafs tonight. I hope so. Briere and Subban will score.

Well, haven't tried the veggie shakes. I need a blender to do that which I don't have. I'm afraid of blenders. A long time ago I was helping my mom make something in a blender. The container jumped up just like that and there was some smoke. My mom was around, but now I'm alone and have no mom. I know this happened a long time ago, but I'm still afraid of blenders. I'm not going to get one.

Well, I'm seriously going to be in a race on the 16th. I'll only not show up if it's too cold like the minuses with wind chill. If it's above freezing, it will be good.

Very interesting quote from Toronto’s top city bureaucrat, city manager Joe Pennachetti:

"If you hear anyone - I won't say who - say we're broke, it's incorrect. But if Torontonians want to live in a world-class city, it will take more revenue".

March 1, 2014 @ 11:16 AM

Speysidephil

@Mike

"More revenue " equals "More taxes ".
If that's what you want to become a so called world class city then go for it.
My guess is the majority of Torontonians are quite satisfied with current services and are totally against any new taxes whatever shape they come in.

March 1, 2014 @ 11:51 AM

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

@Speysidephil

He also said that while the city’s financial footing is strong, if Torontonians truly want to be world-class, the city needs to take in more money — his preference being a sales tax or a slice of the HST.

“We are the sixth largest government in Canada,” Pennachetti said. “We do not have the revenue tools that we should have.”

This, he continued, is the only way Toronto can both grow and deal with issues such as affordable housing and congestion.

Tacking on 1 per cent to the price of locally purchased goods would bring in $500 million, which would “fix everything,” he said. But even half a percent would be enough to pay for transit expansion.

He pointed to the example of American cities, which often collect sales tax and parking taxes, among others, to expand and invest in infrastructure.

Pennachetti also defended the unpopular land transfer tax — “from my perspective, I needed it” — and praised environmental advancements the city has made — “It’s been an amazing story that often goes unnoticed.”

March 1, 2014 @ 11:55 AM

Corey

@Phil -

You're making too much of the Price thing. In his case, I think if Hab fans want to boast, it's reasonable. He's spent his entire professional career with with the Canadiens and their farm team. They developed him. It's not like he's bounced around, learning from a bunch of different teams. I'm a Leafs fan, I hate the Habs, but this isn't worth getting your knickers in a knot about.

March 1, 2014 @ 12:28 PM

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

@Phil

I actually agree with Corey on this one...

March 1, 2014 @ 1:57 PM

Luigi

I don't understand how a city sales tax would work. Is the city border the boundary? If so, if I was to go grocery shopping, why would I want to pay an extra tax south of Steeles when I wouldn't need to? Also, suppose I needed to buy something at a store like Future Shop-why would I buy it at the location on Yonge Street in North York when I could save a few dollars on the tax by going 15 minutes further north to the one on Yonge Street in Richmond Hill instead?

March 1, 2014 @ 3:55 PM

Corey

They're talking about a 1% tax. So in your Futureshop example, a big ticket item like a $1200 TV will be 12 bucks more in the Toronto location. Guess it depends on how far you feel like going to save the $12.

Habs beat the Leafs last night. Ole ole. That's great, but it was overtime so the Leafs get a point anyway. Oh well, Currie is 1 and 1. Balsdon won the first game.

Yes, the thing about blenders is true. I am afraid of them. If someone is around or if someone else is operating it, I'm okay, but have me use a blender when I'm alone in my place, forget it. Is there a way to make those shakes without a blender? I don't think so.

March 2, 2014 @ 8:07 AM

Speysidephil

No your wrong Cheryl.
The Habs and the Referees beat the Leafs last night. Lousy calls all night.

March 2, 2014 @ 3:55 PM
