Can anyone tell me why razor blades cost $20-$25 for a ten pack?
Seems to be a bit expensive.

November 13, 2013 @ 10:14 AM

Ben Vidal

@ Nigel: Actually there was an expose a couple of year ago showing how much shaving companies are bilking the average citizen. The blades and the cartridge they are built in to actually only cost pennies. P&G also utilize Gillete razors as a profit driver for their business enabling them to use those dollars to advertise other products

That's why the online buck a shave company is gaining traction.

Although I do rule, flattery won't improve your odds in this one.

It'll be completely random... and I'll only accept everyone's first comment (if they're smart enough to stack the deck with several comments).

$20 for a 10 pack? What is this, the '70s and you're using a Wilkinson Sword injector to go with your Hai Karate aftershave?
I just dropped $58 for 16 of those Gillette Fusion ProGlide Power(TM) blades. Argh.
I'd love a trimmer. Apparently it is all the rage to trim 'down' there. By the way, what is it about young guys in my gym who are 'never nakeds'? They always have a towel wrapped around them, even before leaving the shower stalls.

Scored my first goal of the season last night for the Cherry Hawks. It was a tying goal in the third and top shelf where grandma hides the cookies.

@ Mike: Does CQ also have problems with you when you get freebies to give out to blog readers?

It's possible he's written about it before, but 99% of the time I have no idea what he's saying.

I'm not sure... a lot of his issues seem to stem from the fact companies aren't giving him stuff to try or give away.

I wish I could grow a big thick beard like they wear in Iceland, but I have to shave after five days of growth or I just look awful.

CQ

@ Ben Vidal and Toronto Mike
I'm fine with this giveaway.
1) Proctor and Gamble is, or was, a quality company; at least they had treated my late grandfather nicely during his retirement years.
2) Toronto Mike hasn't been accepting 5, 10, or 15 free deluxe electric razors over just the past five years.
3) Gillette isn't dumping this prize strictly into Mike's personal loot bag, unlike when Ford Canada extends their Summertime car rentals, and test drives with golfing days and company tours, to Mike while offering nothing except off-season Women's Conference invitations to various Mommy Bloggers.
4) Nor have we heard of Gillette double gifting to Mike with free season opening Leafs tickets versus Montreal plus annual corporate shindig invitations as well. This included an invitation after Mike's re-posting (via his controlled commenting threads) of the Burke / Mae rumours although Ford Canada is a major sponsor of the Leafs and their arena.
5) Other industry competitors, as nationally headquartered here in S. Ontario, of P&G Canada haven't been sending their consumer freebies to Mike and virtually Mike only - such as General Motors of Canada has been doing.

You do realize Ford, GM, Hyundai and Nissan only lend me the car for a week. I don't get to keep the car.

I drive a '99 Mazda with 260,000 kms on it.

November 13, 2013 @ 11:20 AM

Ben Vidal

@ Mike: There you have it. You have CQ's approval. Also surprising is that what he wrote made sense up until the 4th point.

Carry on with the give away Mike

November 13, 2013 @ 11:35 AM

Mississauga Phil

@ CQ - Why are you so bitter about the freebies Mike gets. The man produces a quality site that gets tons of hits. This causes companies to want to promote themselves on Mike's blog. If they choose to do this by giving him a car for a week to review, or some nice seats to a leafs game, what does it matter to you.

From your posts, I get the feeling you're a bit bitter with life. Try being more positive and you'll attract positive things to you.

If I were in your shoes, as opposed to lashing out at Mike for the perks that come with his success, I'd ask him what he does to make his blog so successful and try applying that to my own site (sorry man I've tried to visit your blog and I just find it incomprehensible)...

But since I don't have a blog, nor the desire to start one, I'll continue to enjoy Mikes...and throw my hat in for the occasional freebie he gives out.

November 13, 2013 @ 11:38 AM

CQ

@Toronto Mike
You forgot the Mercedes Smart Car.
I walk a pair of 2000 running shoes*. At least I had an excuse for walking to and from the Islington inter-city transit station this past weekend. (The subway line was partially shutdown for maintainence.) I caught and departed from the Mississauga bus(es) outside of the actual TTC bus bay station.

* I had a nice pair of mid 1990s leather Clarks - until the shoe trees I used had swelled during an extended unused storage and completely burst their seams and soles.

I'm not about to begrudge Mike any of the swag or promos that he is the recipient of. Good on him, I say. He is a media outlet, companies have the right to run promotions by/with him. If any of these make his life a little bit better, good on him again.

November 13, 2013 @ 11:54 AM

Mississauga Phil

I'm with Irv...Mike you should include 1 complimentary back shave as part of the prize :)

November 13, 2013 @ 11:56 AM

I too am doing the #Movember thing, I shaved the entire noggin and the head is growing back quite nicely.

I will return the much anticipated goatee that my wife like in December and keep it nicely trimmed with the TOMike supplied Gillette Fusion Proglide trimmermathingy.

Also, my company is called coreFusion, so it just makes sense that I get it.

Thanks Mike, I'll pick it up this afternoon when I stop by for the Podcast ;-)

Given razors are as expensive as an ounce of gold, I'm in for this.
Can anyone explain why they alarm the doors on the razor aisle? This is more security than I've seen at the Walmart Jewelery counter.

@Rick C

Apparently was one of the highest shoplift items wherever they were sold.
Given the price , I guess so.
