I find it hilarious/sad that the talking heads on Fox News and the like can't just be happy that it looks like there might be a peaceful resolution in Syria. They're more concerned in dragging down Obama.

Who cares if the Russians are the ones brokering the inspection/confiscation of the chemical weapons...as long as they aren't being used anymore.

The right wing in the US would rather see America burn to rubble than have it thrive under a Democrat.....

@Phil -

Admittedly I haven't been following this as closely as I probably should - I'm working on wrapping up a project at work that's been consuming most of my time. Every time I've scanned the headlines Obama's been the one pushing for military intervention. What am I missing?

One last gasp of summer. 30C today!!!

Yeah, I'm looking forward to hockey season, but I am not looking forward to cold and snow. The Farmers Almanac, apparently, is suggesting it could all start in mid-October out here. Gag!!!!!!

@ Corey - To the best of my understanding. John Kerry, when asked in a press conference what it would take to stop an attack on Syria, said that they would have to turn over all their chemical weapons to the international community and submit themselves to inspection. He was being sarcastic, and said "not that they will"

Somehow Russia got involved and Syria as agreed (in theory). Now the talking heads on Fox are saying things like "Russia is going to replace America in a world leader role" And "Putin is embarrassing Obama and the entire US"

Who gives a crap...as long as they aren't using chemical weapons on their own people anymore.

I made dinner for my wife the other night, and then I casually mentioned that as of September 17, I was going away for a while. Naturally she was a little surprised by my announcement.

"Oh don't worry", I continued. "I won't be far. You just won't see me for a while. And to be honest, I don't know when I'll be back, which is why I made you this delicious dinner, and bought you this heartfelt greeting card."

Likewise, as I was wrapping up a meeting with my boss just yesterday, I indicated to her that since I won't be in the office, she better assign my work to someone else until I return. She wasn't particularly happy about it, and suggested that my job might not be here when I decided to come back.

"That's ok, I understand your position, but in life, some things are more important than a job. But listen, I want to thank you for all your support during my time here. It was a pleasure", and I shook her hand and walked out of her office.

On Tuesday, GTA V will be released. Goodbye everyone.

Some things in life are more important. I had to go to a 12 step program for Diablo 2. It was a long, long process, but I'm better now. ;)

@Andrew: I just bought Diablo 3. What have I done?

Nah, I play a lot of games, but I can't say I've been addicted to any of them. More the opposite, like ADD. I start piles and seldom finish any. Took me well over five years to beat Vice City for example.

Drove home from a meeting in Owen Sound yesterday, and stop to get gas at a UPI station. Price is $1.399 for the grade I am buying. I notice when I first start pumping, the price is starting on the pump, but it does not feel like any gas is coming out.

I fill up, pump says $69.25 – 48.97 Litres, and so does the printed receipt. At $1.399 a litre, the total should be $68.51. I know the difference is only $0.74 but I question the guy, and he gives me some lame story about air pressure, humidity etc. that affects the volume of gas being pumped.

I know the guy was bullshitting me, but is this common in gas stations? First time I have ever been aware of it.

Humble & Fred were extremely complimentary of Dean Blundell today... also mentioned that Todd Shapiro will be visiting within a few weeks. Should be interesting!

@ 4x4 - the guy ripped you off...doesn't matter if it's .75 cents or $75,000 he still ripped you off. Many gas stations do this and it is a crime that should be reported.

Well, so far nothing bad has happened today so that's good. Well, it's not 30 C today. The cooler weather starts today. Snow starting in October doesn't sound too good, but hopefully the almanac will be wrong. It sometimes is. Well, less than three weeks now and it's hockey. That's what we need is some hockey. Cardinals will beat Detroit in Sunday's football game.

Sorry for the triple post!

Just wanted to add, generally if you're posting an image, you should host it somewhere like http://www.imgur.com -- it's bad form to use smaller sites' bandwidth linking from others.

Imgur will even give you the links you need, and offer options for different sizes or a clickable thumbnail.

I am waiting for the end of October when the new Batman game comes out. I am seriously considering booking a day off of work to play.
The last 2 Batman Arkham games have been amazing.
It's a new company making this Batman game, so I am a little apprehensive, but it'll still get my 60-70 bucks.

@ 519 Rob: The last Batman Arkham game was fantastic. Except for one of the Riddler token items. No matter how hard I tried i couldn't get it. The game is virtually completed and passed except for that one item. After trying for two days(not playing all day of course) I gave up in disgust. the game has not been touched since then. There is a mutual respect between the game and I. It knows it has bested me, but I know that it is effing with me.

I'm a COD guy when I do play. Not sure how I feel about the new one coming out. Each time they release a new one, the game speed seems to be faster and faster.

Does anyone still play World of Warcraft? I lost about 2 months worth of hours to that game once upon a time. I guess something I can always pride myself on is I thought I spent a lot of time playing it, but was happily pleased to learn the amount of hours people infested in the game. Not because they wasted their lives and lost their wife and their house and their kids. Or that they paid those websites countless dollars for gold that was being farmed in China. It made me happy, because I knew that I wasn't that big of a loser.

I had a friend who checked the timer and he literally played that game, for an entire years worth of hours. How sad. He also had no girlfriend and job at the time(not because of the game). I guess using your right hand for other activities could only fill up so much of his day, before he had to give it a break and hit up WOW.

Oh and on a final note. I have had a long hard fought summer against the Raccoon population in Oakville. It became a war of attrition neither side truly winning for a long time. They would attack for days and i'd put a cage out and catch one or two of the bastards. Then they would retreat. I truly think they were testing my weakness' and that of the cage. They were canny and smart and I think they knew like a chess game they had to sacrifice some raccoon pawns to achieve their ultimate goal. That goal being ruining my lawn and leaving a pile of Raccoon fecal matter on my patio so large that I would have no choice, but to move.

Thankfully my European parents didn't raise a quitter. I lost my girlfriend to this war with the Raccoons. I wouldn't lay down and die. I was feeling beaten, but not bested. Well I would like to say that after 2 long months, that I have bested my Raccoon foes. 10 relocated Raccoons. 2 cats taken to the humane society. 1 chipmunk released immediately. Those are the numbers it took to rid my street of my foe.

My neighbours sleep better now, or so they have told me. Lawns and animals are safer.

I'm glad I won. I feel a sense of loss though. I feel like the battle with the Raccoon's and I was one that started centuries ago. I feel like a part of me is done with. I will not falter in my resolution to protect my home from the Raccoons. I will see what next year brings. I can tell you that my friends the nematodes are helping to rid my lawn of grubs. We will see what they do when I destroy their food source completely.

To that I bid you all good weekend.

@Ben Vidal:

I liked Modern Warfare, but holy smokes they just goes off the deep-end for the sequels. Topping themselves with atrocities committed really left a bad impression on me. I also don't like how calculated and formulaic they feel. Designed by a company with a predatory CEO who's only mission is to pump as much cash out of gamers as possible.

I find I've much preferred small independent games for the most part lately, where people are making them more for the love of it. They're typically more novel and interesting, cost less, and take up less time. They're also (generally) not designed to be addictive and pump cash out of you. (How much have you spent on Call of Duty map packs, assuming you play multiplayer?)

I played World of Warcraft over a 6 week period when it was newish, but found it terribly tedious. I played Ultima Online for longer, but barely any friends did, making it kind of pointless. I knew lots of WoW players though, with varying amounts of lives being ruined.

I lived with a married couple for a bit while in university, and that guy was up at all hours playing it, going on "raids". I don't know how his wife put up with it, but they're one of the strongest couples I've ever known.

I have been playing vids since I used to code them out of BYTE magazine in the late 70's early 80's on a Commodore PET and then an Atari ST. Whilst in university my roommate and I stayed up for 36 hours straight playing the Star Trek: 25th Anniversary adventure game on a 486DX66 with a 2mb video card! It was heaven as I was killing time playing Civilization on a Mac Classic.

Boy, times have changed. My brother works for AMD (he's head of worldwide sales for the GPU division) so I'm waiting for new presents soon :)

I love video games.

Just had a call from my daughter who is off to 2nd year university, living off campus in a house. There are 5 people in her house, 3 she knew prior and they are all compatible and serious about their studies. Land lord at last minute has a no show and rents to a student whose parents I think are glad to be rid of him. Well for the last 2 weeks this loser has been partying, smoking it up, played Xbox non stop overaging their internet. She feels uncomfortable around him and the riff raff he is hanging out with. Against my wife and daughters wishes, I called the landlord and brought this up to him. He basically said they will need to sort it out as he always sees these personality clashes in the beginning and they sort themselves out. I'm new to this as my son was always big enough and street smart enough to sort this out, being my daughter I am far more protective. My wife says give him until mid terms and he should fail out by then, but maybe this guy is some kind of savant and will keep getting passing grades and be an utter effing thorn in my side. Wish I could go Tony Soprano on him at this moment.

Well, I know. Preseason hockey is good, but the games don't count and so the regular season actually starts October 1 where my Habs will crush the Leafs. Suban and Briere will score lots. You'll see.

Well, this is a drop in temperatures, that's for sure. The snow just better not come too soon. My trainer is moving to Hamilton in Octber, on October 1, so he has to commute to Toronto. If the snow is too bad, he won't come so not a good time to have a bad winter.

@4x4 Time - Canadian and provincial laws dictate that should there be a difference between the transaction amount on the pump and what shows inside the station/store, the pump amount is considered the correct amount. You were ripped off, and should report the station to the Ontario Ministry of Consumer Affairs (or whatever it's called these days).

In Ontario, most gasoline retailers rip off consumers when it comes to 89 (mid-grade), 91 (premium) or 94 octane gasoline. I'll date myself by noting that there was once a 1.2¢/L difference between regular (87 octane) and premium (which was 92 octane). No matter how you slice and dice it, roughly 16¢/L is the difference now. I was in Winnipeg in August. The difference between regular and premium was 10¢/L there. Last year in the Maritimes, where at least one province (Nova Scotia, if I recall correctly) regulates the retail price of automotive fuel, the difference was 7¢/L. Across the US, the price difference is usually 10¢/US gallon. That's 2.65¢/L. Why are we getting ripped off on anything above regular? Because the gasoline retailers can.

Before anyone suggests that I use a lower octane fuel in my car to save money, the fact is that I cannot. My car is no longer stock. It is emissions-legal, unless I move to California. All of the memory allocation that once had the stock settings that also made accommodations for less than 91 octane are gone, replaced by more precise calculations and coding for only 91 octane fuel. I have significantly more power and torque than when the at stock, but in daily driving, I have the same to slightly better fuel consumption than I did when the car was completely stock, all of it being very close to the published Canadian fuel consumption ratings. Of course, when I'm on a track, that all changes.

The repetitive loop on Indie 88 is awful. I tune in occasionally and keep hearing the same songs over and over and over. Their playlist may be a bit better, but they are programmed just like every other station. Too bad.

September 16, 2013 @ 6:17 AM

That's whuy I don't bother with radio anymore. I mean no matter what radio station you listen to, you get a play list if you listen to it long enough. Radio was much better in the old days. Now it's just very few announcers and it's the same loop of stuff. That's why I don't bother with radio anymore. I listen to my MP3s. I get to play what I want to hear and not what some programme director thinks I should herar.
