So I'm outside with my neighbors last night and I say "hey remember the 3 day blackout of '03".

All of a sudden my son and his friends are gathered round like I'm Grampa Simpson from the lemon tree episode, regaling them with tales of yore...

Then it dawns on me....none of these freaking kids were even alive for the blackout of '03 (okay, to be fair, one of them had been born 5 weeks prior to it...)

Made me feel real old...

Can someone let me know when the scam that is Drive Clean is going to be retired??? I just had to have the test performed on my 10 year old vehicle, and of course it passed, without issue.

The interesting thing is that I've noticed they changed the format of the test results. They used to provide the actual numerical values of the test results, so you could compare your results to the minimum acceptable standards. Now they just indicate whether the car "passed" or "failed" each test. I suspect the change is because people were noticing that there vehicles were coming in so far above the minimum standards that they might begin questioning the necessity of this money grab.

I have never had a vehicle come close to failing this test, and I don't know anyone who has. Sure you might catch some dude in a 20 year old beater with a bad exhaust system, but with the improvements in car manufacturing over the past couple of decades, I think this would be a pretty rare event. Time to end this charade.

@ Corey - Agreed, but if they eliminate "Drive Clean" they'll just replace it with a different money grab....

My power didn't go off, but the fire alarm went off twice, last night and this morning. No good at all. I guess the rain had something to do with the fire alarms going off.

Ok kids, gather around... it's story time...

Like an idiot, I tried to go to my ball games last night. The commish refused to call the games, which meant the game could only be called by the ump at the diamond. So off I went to a game in northern Brampton.

I left the house at 5pm. It was already pouring rain in west Toronto, and visibility was terrible. I turned onto the 410 from the 401 and gave my head a good shake. There was no way games were going to be played, and it was going to take me 4 hours to get there. So I got off at Courtney Park and started heading east.

Wow. I've never seen anything like it. Flooding everywhere... street lights off... total chaos. A 20 minute drive took me 3 hours.

The power at home went out last night at about 5:30. It's still out. Yes, I'm one of those unlucky 30000 who still have no power in west Toronto. I'm at a remote location trying to get some work done.

This is the longest power outage of my life next to the August 2003 blackout which lasted 24 hours. Here's my write up about it: http://www.torontomike.com/2003/08/blackout.html

I'm told yesterday was the biggest rainfall in the recorded history of this city, beating the old Hurricane Hazel record. I'll leave you with this:

July 9, 2013 @ 10:00 AM

Douglas

@Mississauga Phil - how many of those kids were born nine months after the '03 blackout?

@Corey - DriveClean is nothing short of a tax grab - on testing facilities, too. They all had to pony up about $20,000 for the new computer system. One of my clients withdrew that amount from his investment portfolio to pay for it in his shop. The old system actually measured emissions at the tailpipe. Based on that, I am sure that my 2006 car would have failed, as I have "leakage" in the combustion system, burning oil, all of which is about to get repaired. The new system simply checks for the various emission components via the OBD-II port. Using that test method, my car passed.

When DriveClean came in, I remember hearing the joke that it managed to take half of the cars in Hamilton off the road. It wasn't much of a joke, nor an exaggeration, as the provincial government pointed to the "success" of the program in the area.

Re: DriveClean

Here's my most recent opinion of the mandatory emission test:

http://www.torontomike.com/2012/06/another_emissions_test_pass.html

My birthday is this month, so it was time to renew my vehicle's license plate. I drive a 1999 car, so it was also time for a vehicle emissions inspection report.

I've been driving this car for 13 years, putting 250,000 kms on it, but it passed the emissions inspection with ease.

If my shitbox is passing with ease, who's failing?

July 9, 2013 @ 10:18 AM

Corey

@Douglas and Mike -

I just checked the stats on the Ministry's site - since the program's inception nearly 90% of light vehicles passed the test. I'd wager that the vast majority of the 10% that failed happened in the first couple years of the program's introduction.

Speaking of MTO stuff - I've been driving for almost 30 years but only recently I have noticed this. During rush hour some people (i.e. assholes) will head into the left turn lane a few hundred metres before the actual turn to get ahead of everybody then at the last minute the jump back into the lane that is going straight. I wish police would track these effers down and ticket them to hell.

I've noticed this practice is big in the Steeles & Yonge area. I don't know if its an ethnic thing but it seems fairly recent.

Perspectives

Ok kids; gather around its story time.

As my epic bad luck would have it, I arrived in Calgary 1 day prior to the flooding, unpacked and settled into my rental. I was in Calgary to do some work then begin a long, much needed break from working so much.

Thursday it was raining heavily when I walked downtown to do the work I’d arrived to do. Coming from Vancouver, I was accustomed (and like) dark rainy days. We get a lot of them especially in the winter. Thursday afternoon a message popped up on my iPhone that 6 neighborhoods were under mandatory evacuation and residents had till 3 PM to get out. It was around 1:50. People started leaving & I went to my rental figuring I’d be fine. It was far enough away from the river that I didn’t see it getting flooded. I settled in, bought a pizza and then came the knock I didn’t want to hear. With the Trans Canada washed out and Hwy 3 closed, the way home was via Edmonton (or Montana) and 2 days of driving. I stayed put. I bought food, water jugs & the place had a BBQ so for 89 bucks I bought a tank of propane. I managed to nab a few UPS power supplies, took them home and charged them. I drove my Jeep to the top of a hill and parked it in the street with a note in the window I had to leave it there because of the flood. I woke up the next day to no power. I was lucky; my power was only off for 3 days. UPS batteries, an iPhone for internet & a big iTunes library helped me pass the time. What stands out the most is the X’s on people’s door signifying they had left. It was like something you’d see in a war movie.

When it was over it looked like a war zone. The 12 story building I used to live in was “un-inhabitable”. Its 2 story underground garage was completely flooded as was the first floor. Residents were told they “might” come home in a month but to expect longer. After 8 days one of my friends was let back into his apartment. 8 days of sewage & a powerless fridge made the place so vile he puked upon opening the door. Everything was destroyed. Another friend of mine arrived home to find his place neck deep in water. After breaking down & crying to his Mom on the phone, the place was pumped out, all his stuff was tossed and he left with all he had in life; an Android phone and the clothes he was wearing. My holidays turned into a exhausting session of helping people clean up.

Imagine everyone on your street took out all their belongings and furniture and put it out to be picked up as garbage. That’s what my old neighborhood looked like. I looked around in awe. The pubs I’d spent many a day hoisting a cold Big Rock were gutted, the owners grimly surveying millions of dollars in damage. The fitness centre I worked out in (the Talisman Centre) is hopeful some areas will open soon but its “unknown” when their pools will open. That place alone has 6 million dollars in damage & counting. People soldiered on but you knew they were thinking “what will I do, where will I go”. In a matter of hours the lives of people were washed away & many remain homeless waiting weeks or months to go home. Imagine downtown Calgary, home to some 200,000 jobs without power for a week. Imagine the LRT offline because the steel rails were bent like pretzels. Imagine a river a kid could wade has not just breached it’s banked but flooded HALF of the entire downtown and Stampede grounds.

And that’s nothing compared to High River. High River is a small town south of Calgary. Most of its residents have been there a long time. They’re good old fashioned Alberta rednecks (meant in a good sense)…hardened to floods, baseball sized hail & everything else the prairie sends their way. Now they stand on TV, sobbing, trying to come to the understanding that the house they grew up in is gone forever. Even the most hardened redneck has to admit that High River “might never be the same”.

When I was finally able to get home, I came down the Coq, (we say Coke) passed Hope and there was no better feeling than hearing the whispers of The Peak on the radio of my Jeep. I was home. I arrived back to the West End, sun shining, and patios filledl with people drinking. Yet, I kept thinking that had I not decided to move, I probably would have lost everything and I too would be homeless with nothing but the clothes I wore to work.

I biked to work, on the border of Etobicoke, this morning. I noticed the lights were out at the last Ontario Place or CNE, whatever they are, driveway out onto Lake Shore Blvd., but thought nothing of it, assuming it had to do with the Indy being set up.

When I got to Windermere and Lake Shore, the lights were out, and while MOST vehicles were obeying the rules, a couple of jackasses in both directions ran the dead lights. I noticed all the lights were out approaching the office, and of course the office itself was dead.

I sat with some battery life in my laptop, tethered to my phone for internet. One coworker showed up, but the boss gave up trying to get to work because of a bigger clusterfuck on the Queensway and called it.

On the way home I noticed all but one of the Ontario Place crossings now had their lights out, as in, more areas lost power this morning.

The annoying part is that none of this was indicated on Toronto Hydro's map.

I don't think anyone here is going to give half a crap about this because he was an overweight video game reviewer, but I think it's notable that Ryan Davis, of Giant Bomb passed away. He died on July 3rd, and the death was announced yesterday.

It's a little bit relevant here because he hosted Giant Bomb's podcast, which is one of the most popular in the world. It's done a lot to promote the format. (#10 in Canada, and I think it might even be #2 in the USA.)

Video game "journalism" is a horrible joke, and a shill game, but Giant Bomb stood out as a bastion of independence. It was founded by Jeff Gerstmann & Ryan Davis when the former was fired from Gamespot for giving a negative review to a sponsor's title.

I realise it's common to think of games as "for kids", but it's a essentially a popular new media format. It's nascent and maturing at a quick rate. I don't see game playing as any more a waste of time than watching movies, TV, or reading fiction.

The really sad part is he died on his honeymoon, within five days of being married. The cause of death isn't known. There's LOTS of immature dorks online automatically attributing it to his weight, but who knows at this point.

@ Argie: I'll one up you. How about people in the left turn lane waiting because of oncoming traffic then the lights change and the two cars that are in the intersection(one fully in the intersection the other half in) go. That I don't have a problem with. It's the assholes in the 3-4 cars behind that proceed to go through and turn left after lights have turned green in the opposite direction. NEVER EVER a cop around to nab these low life's.

The scariest part are the moms in a mini van full of kids that are risking the safety of everyone involved. I've seen too many close calls and even crashes as a result of being that 4th car through

Often times now if I'm at the front of the line, I hit the gas and just lay my hand on the horn as if I'm going to imminently crash into them. Needless to say it scares the hell out of most.

The idiots that hop into the on ramp lanes on the 401 etc. trying to gain 8 or 9 car lengths, knowing full well what the lane is really for. The OPP do nail East bound 401 at Dixon road offenders regularly, but this is a high offense area for this BS.
The left turners I start to steam at are the ones who listened too closely to their instructor and stay behind the white line on a green, and never make the left on the yellow or red. Waiting until the next sequence to pull out. 2 could have easily turned in that moment.

@Corey, regarding Drive Clean: I'm a member of a GTA Mustang club and this has been the topic of discussion for years. There were many ways to make a performance car pass with the old system (mehtyl hydrate, timing changes etc.), new one is far more difficult to fool. That said, these cars make up such a small % of over all cars tested on the road, running your lawnmower on Saturday would create more pollution than the performance cars of today. The new system has led to "Not Ready Errors" when a car hasn't been driven enough to log results, a check engine light has been turned off with a scan tool recently or if your battery has been low or disconnected causing the log to be erased. I would be more in favour of a yearly or every 2 years safety inspection, as our company Sprinter van must be inspected annually to receive it's yellow approval sticker to operate.

There is a Subaru club that has wired a 2nd OBDII port in where the original would connect, and they supposedly successfully emulated a pass down load, so look for this market to expand defeating the current system.
BC is suppose to phase this out eventually http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/british-columbia/clark-to-phase-out-vehicle-emissions-testing/article4210590/

As for the flooding, just heavy rain out here in Oakville, and power was out for most of my neighbourhood last night. I seem to have lucked into a grid that doesn't seem to go off like the others, even in 2003 we lost power for only 2-3 hours.

What I don get is that they named a woman hockey player very few would even know. Does the Baseball HOF or the NBA HOF name women to it? I thought entry into the Hockey Hall of fame as a player was based on statistics, length of career and impact from a career playing in the NHL,no?. Are there players in the HHOF from European Leagues, AHL etc, I do not know.
If they are voting women into the hall as players, then what is the criteria to be accepted? I thought there was some talk of suspending Womens Hockey in the Olypmpice until there is more competitive balance from all countries competing.
If they are voting women in based on "events" like World Championships or Olympics, then should Paul Henderson be in based on an historic event achievement?
This not a man vs. woman thing, I am just curious.

July 9, 2013 @ 8:30 PM

I just remembered a Chris Chelios story. Years ago I was invited to an Oilers game when I was in Edmonton on business. The seats were great, 5 rows above the ice right at the visitors blue line. We got there and the teams were still warming up. There were a couple of guys a couple of rows below us yelling at Chelios and holding up a sign which I could not see. Anyway the Wings are skating around looking at the boys and laughing..Before Chelios leaves the ice he skates over and says something to the guys holding the sign and every starts laughing...The guys turn around and the signs says something like (cannot remember 100%) "Hey Chelios, my sister is butt ugly, but she is still better looking than you"..

It's relative.

For example, we can say Steffi Graf is one of the best tennis players of her generation. I happen to believe she was the very best. Steffi Graf, without a doubt, deserves to be in the tennis hall of fame.

But Steffi Graf wouldn't be able to beat the lowest seed mens player. She'd be destroyed.

It's relative... so you have a female hockey player be the Bobby Orr of her sport, which is women's hockey.

July 10, 2013 @ 9:00 AM

markosaar

White, Male, Hetero, Christian, Conservative & Entitled.

My problem is the "fuck you, got mine" attitude. Also Argie just espouses such similar values to people dear to me that I find it exceptionally frustrating as I can't just dismiss him.

But the thing is, go to any major Canadian news site, and roughly half the commenters are more Argies. And roughly half are insanely biased the other way. I used to have a bit of a political identity crisis, but feel firmly in the middle because I'm regularly accused of being both a commie downtown elite leftie and a right-wing Harper-loving Randoid. (For the record I'm still waiting for senate-reform/abolishment and think the whole "get tough on crime" platform is wrong-headed and pandering.)

I definitely leaned a lot further to the right as recently as maybe a year ago, but especially socially I lean left. I just don't see the harm with same-sex issues. Abortion I can understand people's objections, but I feel it's still a matter of the woman's body, her rules.

Where I do not tolerate objections at all is when when abortion is not permitted even when it's a matter of life or death for the mother. I can't believe that's even an issue. The fetus/baby is dead anyway, and yet certain western hospitals will not perform the procedure.

I would enjoy watching Phil try to collect a thousand examples and posting the links here!

Wow, looks like the "a' word is being used again.

Mark - that's a straw man argument and you're wrong. Today, in western hospitals both the baby and the mother can be saved. Oh and please don't bother brining up the case in Ireland. Both the mom and baby were doomed. The baby was too premature and the mother was going to die regardless as to if they aborted or not.

July 10, 2013 @ 10:15 AM

markosaar

I apologise, I wasn't trying to strawman you; I was trying to define my own opinions.

But yes, I was talking about the Ireland case. But saying "the mother was going to die regardless" is disingenuous. They refused her because she wasn't in "immediate danger". It only became too late once the hospital had finally decided she was actually in fact in danger.

Ireland is specifically an issue, and timely, as the updated law is being voted on right now: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-23251581

I guess my statement could potentially be untrue by tomorrow.

July 10, 2013 @ 10:29 AM

Argie

mark,

Its not as clear cut as BBC or other mainstream media types would have you know. Not all facts have come out about the case but there is speculation that the mother had eclampsia which meant she was doomed.

Again, if they aren't White/Male/Hetero/Conservative, you attack.

Prove me wrong....don't just call me a wank, tell me how I'm wrong.

July 10, 2013 @ 11:48 AM

Argie

Phil,

So you're saying I hate all women, liberals, gays, non-Christians and everyone younger than 18 and older than 55?

I think its obvious you're wrong.

July 10, 2013 @ 11:51 AM

Mississauga Phil

@ Argie - Much like your comment about 99.9999999% of terrorists being Muslim, the proof is in the numbers, you consistently attack anyone outside the aforementioned demographic.

And I didn't say hate, I said bash....

...and again, anytime you want to prove me wrong...

July 10, 2013 @ 1:09 PM

Ben Vidal

@ Phil: Lol big guy. It's all good, calm down. Argie says what Argie says. I think it's his shtick. I can tell you there are about a million more offensive ways he could have said what he said. Truth be told I found what he said humorous more than I found it offensive. I know that there are things that he says in this blog that are borderline offensive, but once again borderline. I have to give him some kudos though, because he walks that fine line. It actually takes a lot more effort to do than go the outright offensive route.

So for the record Argie, I have no problem in what you said. I would only argue that at the really high levels if you enjoy men's soccer. Women's soccer isn't a bad watch.

July 10, 2013 @ 2:06 PM

Argie

OK Phil, so because I state a fact (I admit frequently) I'm a basher.

Here's an idea, why don't they stop bombing and killing and I'll quit talking about it? Deal?
Ben,

Woman's soccer??? You must be kidding....

July 10, 2013 @ 2:11 PM

Ben Vidal

Yes Argie. As I stated at really high levels. For example Olympic soccer. I didn't mean run of the mill amateur women's soccer.

One thing to note Argie.

Often times you take offence to people bringing up catholic priests being pedophiles and rapists. Now I'm not drawing a parallel between a priest and terrorist. I'm saying that out of the entire Muslim population a small number are terrorists. The same point you've made about Catholic priests.

So the same could be said about people who make similar statements about Catholic priests. Once they stop touching little boys, then people will stop talking about it. Deal?

July 10, 2013 @ 2:21 PM

Corey

Womens soccer, Men's soccer - there's a difference?

July 10, 2013 @ 2:21 PM

Ben Vidal

Corey. Good on you that elicited a chuckle. Once again if at a high level you like mens soccer than womens isn't a bad watch.

July 10, 2013 @ 2:24 PM

Argie

Ben,

When or if we hear about a priest diddling a young boy or girl feel free to mention it. Funny thing is I haven't heard of any recent cases (which is good). Every freaking day, we hear about bombings in the middle east and south Asia. That, my friend would be the difference.

Believe me, any priest who does that sort of thing should go directly to jail. I just wish the media would be more honest about it and state that the vast majority of cases are homosexual priests abusing teenage boys. Fortunately most dioceses today are not allowing these types into the priesthood. Oops, I think I just started another debate - here we go.....

July 10, 2013 @ 2:39 PM

Mississauga Phil

@ Corey - No difference, both are about as entertaining as watching paint dry...

July 10, 2013 @ 3:49 PM

markosaar
It just so happens 99.999% of terrorists are muslim. Sorry if you don't get that.

The IRA, The Unabomber, Anders Breivik, Timothy McVeigh all beg to differ.

I'm pretty sure the vast majority terror attacks carried out on US soil were committed by non-Muslims. (Though not managing to cause as much loss of life fortunately, upstaged by 9/11.)

You've got the white supremacists more lately, anti-abortion violence of the 90s, Jewish Defense League of the 80s (guessing they weren't Muslim), and a bunch of smaller crazy groups.

According to this, "between 1990 and 2010 there were 145 ideologically motivated homicide incidents committed by far-right extremists in the United States."

Conversely during the same time, “al Qaeda affiliates, al Qaeda-inspired extremists, and secular Arab Nationalists committed 27 homicide incidents in the United States involving 16 perpetrators or groups of perpetrators.”

Never mind religion and ideology -- I think anyone that resorts to murder to make a point is sick in the head.

July 10, 2013 @ 4:52 PM

Mississauga Phil

Lawyered!!!!

Love it markosaar

July 10, 2013 @ 7:26 PM

Fact

More radical Jewish threats happened than Muslim on US soil

July 10, 2013 @ 7:32 PM

Corey

I've gone down this road before - not too interested in doing it again, but I will say this: North America has largely been insulated from terrorism until very recently. markosaar (and Phil), please look at GLOBAL statistics for terrorism, and you'll find Argie is much closer to being correct than you might expect. Also look at total number of deaths attributed to these various factions. 3,500 people died during the 30 years of IRA conflicts. 3000 died in a single day on September 11, 2001. Lawyered?

July 10, 2013 @ 8:01 PM

Just a question

Do the half million dead Iraqis killed in the hunt for WMD count as victims of terrorism?

July 10, 2013 @ 11:02 PM

markosaar

Yeah, I don't know who posted that, but I don't even want to go through the effort of replying to Corey's "GLOBAL statistics".

Yes there are more Muslim terrorists globally, but once you enlarge the scope like that, there are so many more definitions, caveats, relative perspectives, agendas, etc... I just don't have the energy for it.

It's still not an overwhelming majority unless you limit it strictly to Israel's perspective.

July 10, 2013 @ 11:43 PM

Corey

Okay, markosaar, I guess we'll take your word for it then.

July 11, 2013 @ 6:51 AM

Argie

Is it 99.99 or is it 99.99999% of the attacks? Who knows. Either way wherever there are muslims, we see a conflict and violence.

In the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Pakistan, Chechnya, Turkey, Eight, Syria, Lebanon, Gaza, Iraq, India, Nigeria, Algeria and so on....

I'm sure I've left out a few other countries.

But of course, mark, this could be just a coincidence, right?

July 11, 2013 @ 8:30 AM

Ben Vidal

Can we at least all agree that Raccoons are a vermin that shouldn't have the same rights as humans? I planted some grass about 4 weeks ago and this mother effer keeps digging despite me putting down nematodes and all sorts pest control. I think he pulls back the sod for shits and giggles. I know it's for shits at least, because he drops a steamer each morning on my patio. Problem is my two dogs; he seems to arrive right around 11 which is the last time I let them out. One dog could handle it's own against the bastard, but the other isn't big enough.

Of course Raccoons are protected and the humane society won't do eff all unless they have made a nest under your deck. I have a cement patio so I'm SOL on that one. Sad thing is if I call a pest control person they will only come to pick the asshole up and release him within 2 KM. If they drop his/her ass off any further they could get disoriented and ultimately maybe, possibly, a small chance in hell die. Problem here is those effers will walk 5KM alone in a night. So really all the exterminator is doing is giving the asshole exercise, so that he can work up an appetite to then come to my backyard and shit on my patio.

Such a vicious cycle and I don't condone violence towards animals, but this guy has it coming.

July 11, 2013 @ 8:42 AM

Argie

@Ben

I agree 100%. I hate those effers too.

I just hope Phil doesn't mind that I openly hate them.

July 11, 2013 @ 8:48 AM

Ben Vidal

To tie this in to the conversation thread in the last 5th of this open mike. I consider the Raccoon to be the terrorist affecting my backyard. I haven't had a chance to ask him what his political/religous affiliation is, but i'm sure he's part of the Green Party. BASTARD!

July 11, 2013 @ 8:48 AM

Speysidephil

Raccoons are useless pests that warrant a controlled and widespread extermination.
Just exactly what is their purpose other than to shit, destroy lawns, barns, attics etc. etc.

July 11, 2013 @ 9:01 AM

Quantico

According to this data, there were more Jewish acts of terrorism within the United States than Islamic (7% vs 6%). These radical Jews committed acts of terrorism in the name of their religion. These were not terrorists who happened to be Jews; rather, they were extremist Jews who committed acts of terrorism based on their religious passions, just like Al-Qaeda and company.

http://www.washingtonsblog.com/2013/05/muslims-only-carried-out-2-5-percent-of-terrorist-attacks-on-u-s-soil-between-1970-and-2012.html

July 11, 2013 @ 9:02 AM

Argie

I did speak to a Quaker raccoon once. He was very peaceful, felt that the other raccoons were giving him and his family a bad name. He didn't condone violence or destruction to property. He just wanted to live in peace with everyone. Mind you, don't getting started on skunks.

July 11, 2013 @ 9:06 AM

Mississauga Phil

@ Argie - Nah man, you go on and hate those raccoons...fuckers dig into my garbage all the time...

July 11, 2013 @ 9:23 AM

markosaar
Okay, markosaar, I guess we'll take your word for it then.

LOL okay lets just take your unsubstantiated claims instead!

Anyway, I don't completely disagree with you (and Argie), but 99%+ is ridiculous hyperbole.

July 11, 2013 @ 11:08 AM

Argie

mark,

Okay, even if its 70% (which its not), that's way too much - do you agree?

There are about the same number of Christians and muslims in the world today. Would agree that there is a disproportionate amount of terrorist attacks perpetrated by muslims than there are by Christians?

July 11, 2013 @ 11:21 AM

Corey

I really hate lazy interpretation and promotion of statistics like "Quantico" provided. Why is that meaningful? What is the Jewish population in the US vs. Muslim population? For this stat to have any relevance at all, both popoulations would have to be equal. Are they? Is one stat increasing/decreasing over the time period defined? What were the targets of the terrorist acts of each group and what was the effectiveness? I could go on and on. Provide some insight instead of just regurgitating.

July 11, 2013 @ 1:25 PM

Mississauga Phil

@ Cory - But Argie just regurgitates the same thing about Mulsims/Homos/Anyone who isn't him and you agree....

July 11, 2013 @ 1:52 PM

Argie

Phil,

I only "regurgitated" facts on Islamic terror because you made a ridiculous claim that I'm against everyone who is different from me. Its your way of calling me a racist/homophobe/misogynist or any other buzz word the left use.

Instead of proving me wrong, you just attack me with a libelous claim.

July 11, 2013 @ 2:18 PM

markosaar

I capitulate because I don't want to have this argument under an identity so closely associated with my real name.

Apologies. I don't completely disagree with you guys, and I'm probably getting too caught up in semantics, which is stupid.

July 11, 2013 @ 2:28 PM

Mississauga Phil

No argie...just intolerant

July 11, 2013 @ 2:31 PM

Argie

"Intolerant" Geez, there's another buzz word.

Man, I can't wait until tomorrow to discuss that child porn perv who consulted Kathleen Wynn and Dalton. Oh I mean "allegedly".

July 11, 2013 @ 2:39 PM

Mississauga Phil

@ Argie - Guy should be drug out into the street and shot...anyone who messes with children deserve the same fate.

July 11, 2013 @ 2:54 PM

Speysidephil

Argie, I am sure there must be a video of the child porn Perv, Wynn and Dalton together. Maybe the Star can work on getting that one.

July 11, 2013 @ 2:54 PM

4x4 Time

@Argie, Speysidephil - That perv is being represented by Clayton Ruby. Did you catch him on last night's news talking about his new client...WTF?

July 11, 2013 @ 3:19 PM

Argie

Its tough to tell who's slimier - the accused or his lawyer.

July 11, 2013 @ 3:30 PM

Corey

@phil -

You have a bad habit of painting people with a broad brush don't you? Let me get this straight: Because I didn't follow your logic that Argie only wanted white christian males in the HHOF, that must mean I'm in agreement with everything Argie says? As I said before - baffling Phil. Sometimes it seems you are just looking for an argument.

July 11, 2013 @ 3:39 PM

Argie

@ Corey

Its true - Phil is always looking for an argument. Unfortunately, I keep biting every time he baits me.

Of course if I just ignore him, he'll just keep coming back whining I won't debate him.

July 11, 2013 @ 3:59 PM

markosaar

I would like to formally compliment the drivers of downtown Toronto. Traffic was some of the worst I've ever seen, yet no one seemed angry, and a couple of cars even actively moved out of the way so I could zip by on the shoulder. Thanks!

(Except screw you lady in the Lexus SUV ... you're going to kill someone pulling out into traffic like that.)

(Oh and also you, bike courier running a red at University & Dundas. Fucking retard.)

July 11, 2013 @ 5:08 PM

Rick C in Oakville

@ Ben: May have half a solution for you on the raccoon situation, since you don't want to impose a full Jihad on them (just for shits and giggles not imploring anything). I had a massive grub issue in my lawn this year, and every day my lawn looked like it had been roto tilled. Planted seed and staked down the plastic construction webbing you can get at Home Depot. They couldn't dig into the grass, and eventually it rooted enough that they couldn't do any damage to it. I see the odd plug but not massive carnage.
As for getting them off your patio: A friend of mine ;) had a pergola they would climb up on and drop their mess on his patio and patio table every night. He baited mouse traps (with cheese no poison) on the top of the pergola and eventually after a few snaps they moved on. They have never returned so he has told me ;). Not only is their waste nasty it is a huge health hazard for your dogs. Read a few years ago about a dog that ate or drank some of the waste, basically the bacteria nearly destroyed the dogs intestinal track. There was a case where a young girl in Toronto also came in contact with the same bacteria and died from it. Good Luck

Cheryl

What a day I had. I was supposed to get some new software installed for work. Well, the help ddesk person told me I don't have enough ram. I only have a gig of ram in my work computer. Anyway, this means I have to buy a new computer on an urgent basis. Anyway, a friend will take me shopping on Saturday to get it and then have the reinstall on Tuesday. I was hoping I could be up and running, but no, the new software won't install on my old computer. The old work system will be gone in a week and a half so that's why I have to get this new software installed.

Anyway, what's wrong with the Diamondbacks. They're losing lots lately. Oh well, they're a baseball team, but it's nice to see them win. Oh well, Jays suck. Hockey starts in less than three months.

@Cheryl: I blame Microsoft: Many applications we sell work only on XP, check out Dell's of lease systems. good deals and support http://dfsdirect.ca/
Cheers Rick

July 11, 2013 @ 10:33 PM

markosaar

Blame Microsoft? You sell stuff that only works on XP? That's an almost 12 year old operating system. An eternity insofar as computing is concerned.

July 12, 2013 @ 12:16 AM

Rick C in Oakville

@Markosaar, I always blame Microsoft LOL. The low volume medical applications we sell take years for the suppliers to get pay back on, so we do get caught behind the changes in OS.
