My Mom is 90 and I hear her voice every Sunday afternoon on the phone.

I love you, Mom!!!

I love that Jann Arden song!

Happy MOther's Day to all the Mothers on Toronto Mike.

Looking for Tim

I'm a long time lurker who is hoping someone here will recognize my friend Tim Bosma.

He's been missing Monday night.

This is what spring looks like in my part of the world.

Mother is the name for God on the lips and hearts of all children.

I have the best mom anyone could ask for, I hope you all are as lucky.

Happy Mothers Day to all the Mom's here!!!!!!

Will the Leafs win tonight? My heart says yes but my mind says no.

We would have killed the Habs but the Bruins are too tough for us still.

Go Leafs Go!

Hopefully you have all had great relationships with not just your mom, but both parents.

If that's the case, cherish your time with them, and remember the love and sacrifices they made for you.

Sometimes as adults our views will differ from those of our parents, but where possible put all that aside and love them as much as you can. We only have 1 set of parents, and they can never be replaced.

I've got five hours blocked on Saturday to dig up my mom's front lawn.

True story.

I spent 3 hours starting this fun project last Saturday.

So yeah... I love my mom.

May 10, 2013 @ 10:04 AM

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

And I took the kids out shopping last night so they could spoil their mom... because that's how I roll.

I can imagine this weekend can be tough for those who have lost their mom or those who don't feel that bond with their mom and perhaps don't have a relationship with her. I know that before I became a father there was a bitter taste to Father's Day because I had nobody to call / see / celebrate.

So if you're lucky enough to still have your mom with you, and she's a great mom, be sure to let her know she's appreciated.

May 10, 2013 @ 10:10 AM

Another Lurker

I noticed the return of OJ Boy lately. I'd say he'd been gone for years.

OJ Boy, if you're reading this, where did you guy and why did you return?

May 10, 2013 @ 10:28 AM

I no longer have a mom. I lost her in 1987 due to colon cancer that spread to her liver. I still have a dad though so Father's Day means something.

My Habs lost last night. That's so heartbreaking. I thought they could at least win this round. The only good thing was my PK scored a goal. Now I don't care who wins the cup as long as it's not the Leafs so I say Go Bruins. Then all that is left is boring baseball. Oh well.

May 10, 2013 @ 10:47 AM

I have a question for the baseball fans who still tell me it's too early.

At what point is it no longer too early?

June 15?

July 1?

August 1?

Please tell me when it's not too early so I can tell you the Jays are in deep, deep trouble.

May 10, 2013 @ 10:49 AM

The Jays season has been over since the end of April.

They can't beat the teams within their own division (Boston, New York, or Tampa Bay).
Plus in order for them to have a chance at a playoff spot they would have to go 77-39 the rest of the way. That will never happen.

This is a terrible team.

May 10, 2013 @ 11:03 AM

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

I agree with Glen, and it's well documented on this site and on my brother's podcast. :)

This is an awful, awful team. They've looked like crap since game one and the more I watch (yes, I'm still watching) the more inept our lineup and starting pitching appears to be.

The other day my brother Ryan told me he was still 40% sure the Jays would make the playoffs this season. As I told him then and I tell you now, if the season started today and we could reset back to 0-0 and ignore this horrible start, the Jays wouldn't make the playoffs.

Forget going 77-39 the rest of the way... this team won't get 77 wins this season.

And to make matter worse (there's a blog entry coming on this topic), this team is not at all likeable. They're awful and impossible to like.

May 10, 2013 @ 11:07 AM

Yet all the cheerleaders on The Fan still praise Gibbons and say he is not a problem. As many of us stated a long time ago, this team needed a new voice and approach for starters.

And one other thing...I would trade Lawrie. Actually, I would have traded him last year.

May 10, 2013 @ 11:14 AM

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

Actually, it wasn't my brother's podcast where he yelled at me for suggesting the Jays were in big trouble. It was mine... episode 32... we have the chat early in this one, so have a listen:

May 10, 2013 @ 11:24 AM

FYI Jays Fans: I just re-listened to the first 11 minutes of the chat I had with my brother one month ago.

In retrospect, it's pretty interesting.

May 10, 2013 @ 11:42 AM

The Jays are good example of the pitfalls you can experience when you choose to “buy” a winning team rather than grow one. Sometime it works out and you end up with a cohesive group immediately. But sometimes you’re stuck with simply a talented group of individuals

I'm thinking of Tim and hope that he's found safe soon.

I'm a mom of three boys (ages 4, 7 and 8) and all I want for Mother's Day is a great big hug from them. That and a good night's sleep.

@Wayner, I agree. The Jays just don't look like they're a team, KWIM?

I do think that the Leafs will win tonight - Go Leafs!

Hoping the Leafs send the series back to Toronto... I'll be watching.

If we win, I wonder how it will affect everyone's Mother's Day plans. Will game 6 on Sunday be an early NBC game? Maybe...

Go Leafs!

And this Tim Bosma thing is bizarre, hope they find him alive and well.

May 10, 2013 @ 1:26 PM

Re: Tim Bosma

Police are looking for a white male, possibly from Etobicoke, with tattoos on his arms. Specifically, an tattoo of the word "ambition" on his wrist.

If you know someone who fits this description, please call the tip line (905 546 2100) or CrimeStoppers (222-TIPS).

May 10, 2013 @ 1:34 PM

Dave Williams

@Speyside Do you think their may be more to the Tim Bosma case. It almost seems strange that two people would allow this guys wife to get a good visual of them, then abduct the guy and steal his truck. The police have not stated how the guys arrived at Bosma's house.
There is a deeper story to this. I am sure details will emerge as time goes on.

Mother do you think they'll try to break my balls?...My Mom would appreciate this because she is still pretty cool..

May 10, 2013 @ 1:46 PM

Agree 100%. Except when they finally fire Gibby (as he's known to his cheerleaders), they then sing the praises of the new manager and say "oh well, things just didn't work out here for Gibbons."

May 10, 2013 @ 1:48 PM

Yesterday, approx 25,000 pro-lifers marched on Parliament Hill. I think its awesome - what's also awesome is that year after year, they do it peacefully.

Why can't radical lefties or terrorist jihadis protest peacefully like the pro-lifers? Oh I know why, because the pro-lifers do it in the name of love - not for selfish reasons.

May 10, 2013 @ 1:52 PM

So Argie, who the hell bombs/shoots up abortion clinics or threatens the lives of doctors who perform abortions? Are those not pro-lifers? Are those your ideas of peaceful protests?

Lumping everyone of a certain belief into one stereotype is so counter-productive. But I know you don't care about being fair, just inciting a response.

A great article on how Obama has abused his power. Thankfully we have a leader that places his country above personal popularity.

May 10, 2013 @ 2:24 PM

Nice constructive criticism. I think Eillen is an awesome addition to the show. She's quick on her feet and very funny.

May 10, 2013 @ 2:28 PM

Those 5 or 6 cases of abortion dr. shootings in the past 20 years represent such a small % of pro-lifers. When you have practically every protest by islamists or clueless lefty "occupy" types, anyone with a brain (even you) can see there is a huge difference.

Then again, maybe you can't.

Eileen is awesome and I hope Humble & Fred have someone else on deck in case she moves on.

It actually took a while for me to warm up to Kelly Cutrara. She seemed a bit prudish and overly sensitive to political correctness and religious issues early on. It seemed like she was trying to stay safe and "employable". She was great when she finally let her guard down.

Eileen's the quickest wit on the show. I like the younger perspective she brings to issues and she's able to hold her own in their discussions. I think she'd be tough to replace.

May 10, 2013 @ 3:26 PM

Your morality is sadly lacking if all you want is a child born, but not a child fed, not a child educated, not a child housed.
That's not pro-life, that's pro-birth.
Imagine if 25,000 had used there energy to help the kids who are here in the now.

Why did this Tim Bosna guy book a viewing at 9:20PM? It is dark out & it is too late for some stranger/strangers to come to your house. It reeks of danger.

People have got to wise up but I guess living in Ancaster you dont think anything like this can happen. Hopefully, he is not harmed but the longer he is missing the worse off the situation can be.

May 10, 2013 @ 4:35 PM

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

I'm guessing it's because he's a big dude. Strong adult males don't always think it's too dark or late for strangers to come to their house.

It's baffling... hopefully the info about the tattoo has resulted in solid leads.

May 10, 2013 @ 4:45 PM

9:20 is not that late.

Also why was he wearing such a short skirt? He was asking for it.

Anyone know where his ratings are at?

@markosaar, I see your sarcasm. Read the same 2 suspects had looked at a similar truck last Sunday, but as the guy selling it was "a very large guy" according to police, probably thwarted this situation happening to him. My hobby is fixing up older sport cars, and I have had guys come by my house after 10 to pick up parts etc. so 9:20PM would not seem too late. His cell phone was found near Brantford and Police are concentrating on investigating in this area. Hope all turns out well for him and his family.

I also wanted to comment on the Temporary Worker Situation: as this week I was working in Cornerbrook, St. Anthony and Goose Bay Newfoundland labrador. Areas with supposed high unemployment. The Tim's in Cornerbrook and St. Anthony both had young Philipino counter help, and the Pizza Delight in Goose Bay had Philipino staff also.
Got to hand it to them for coming to such remote places to work. I am use to seeing this all over Alberta where ever I go but not down here.

Cheryl, no shame in being a Habs fan. Just think, they were last last year and this year they #2. They'll do better next year. Injuries didn't help either.
Ottawa also got a lot of lucky breaks, just like in game 4 their first goal should've never counted. It looked like Zenevejev (I probably spelled that wrong) turns his skate at the last second to direct the puck in the net.

Definitely a unique day for weather. I was getting hot in the car on the way over to my Mom's from the sunshine, then got pelted by hail on the way from the car to her house, then got soaked by rain on the way out.

When have I said that food, shelter & education shouldn't be provided??? Those things are already provided by the govt and also my many Christian organizations (particularly Catholic charities).

@ Argie/ Dave - While I agree with your sentiment, your delivery sucks. I am both pro life and pro choice. Having had abortion presented to me as an option, I chose the more difficult path. I did not think my child deserved to suffer for my lack of foresight, and it was the best decision I ever made.

However, who are either of you to tell someone else how to make that choice?? The arrogance that you know someone else's life and situation better than they do?

Walk a mile in someone else's shoes...on a weaker day that could have been me, or you.

May 13, 2013 @ 11:32 PM

Dave Williams

@Phil, I nor Argie stated that we are telling anyone to make a choice. I feel it is a sad day when abortion is a method of birth control. Also, YOU did not make an abortion decision so stop trying to make your self feel holyier than thou. A woman in you life made the decision with or without your consent regardless of what that decision was.
