Blind Dave

I had forgotten about a Tuesday round; just popped over for my early morning visit. Lets hope this baby rocks!

Another glorious day in southern SK today and it looks like it'll hit about 24C. I went for two long walks yesterday and it felt darned good to get out there for pleasure again.

Missed the Leafs game last night, so I have no idea if the play reflected the score. Guess I'll find out soon enough.

May 7, 2013 @ 9:18 AM

PFTW

Yes, the play did reflect the score.

Mike's been posting his random shots. Any other photographer/wannabe-type people posting pictures online?

I feel like I know how to take a good picture, I'm just not very inspired or creative.

2 boring stories to get the comment count up for Mike's experiment.
1. Shopping at Sherway Gardens was a pleasure last night. The mall was deserted. Cougars everywhere however.
2. My brother phones me up to tell me he got the 5th playoff game at the Air Canada Center. He shares season tickets in the platinum section (yes, he is a sushi-eating Bay Street lawyer). He then tells me that it'll cost me $750 to go. What to do, what to do... (mind you, what are the chances that there will be 5 playoff games played at the ACC this year?).

May 7, 2013 @ 9:40 AM

PFTW

If only they could have traded the crowd inside the ACC with the crowd standing outside the ACC. The atmosphere for the game might have been more electric.

I do think the Leafs were nervous to start the game last night. lots of skaters were falling for no apparent reason. Not a good sign of things to come.

I expect they'll be more settled and prepared in the next game, but that may not be enough.

May 7, 2013 @ 9:53 AM

Argie

I've given this a lot of thought but I still can't decide who I hate more, the Habs or the Sens. Not just the teams but their annoying fans.

Oh, and can Carlyle please find more ice-time for Kadri?

Alright, Open Mike! It's Friday and this goddamn week is over! I--

wait, my producer's telling me that it's only Tuesday. We're actually closer to Monday than to Friday.

I-- I-- damnit. So many days. So many long days.

We're live? Umm-- so, anyone else noticed the-- umm-- Trilliums in bloom?

Norris finalists were announced.
Letang, Subban, and Suter.

I'll say Letang, but...seems like a toss up.

When one dumbass fan decides a Toronto Stronger sign is a good idea, it embarrasses the entire fan base.

Mike W. Boon please save it for the podcast!

Mark I also love snapping pics when inspired. I collect them here:

@ Mike - Completely disgusted by that Toronto fan...classless.

However, as was pointed out on the radio this morning, a lot of the Boston fans who are complaining about this are the same people who were tweeting some vile, racist things about Joel Ward of the capitals last year when he scored against Boston...might I also remind people of the banana's being thrown on the ice at him as well.

This does not in anyway justify the stupid actions of the "Torontostrong" fan, but when people go to twitter to complain, maybe they should look back in their own timelines....cause it sounds to me like certain Bostonian(?)'s think that racism is okay...but "Torontostrog"...that's offensive

Every fan base has their share of morons.

Habs fans are idiots, Sens fans suck, a Bruins fan just pushed a Leafs fan down a flight of stairs, Canucks fans riot...

No team has a completely classy fan base because there are morons everywhere... I'll bet there are a few commenting on this inaugural Tuesday Open Mike!

Speaking of photography, i thought this was a really neat project. A photographer took a picture of his wife and her three sisters one day in 1975, and it turned into an annual event for 36 years. Amazing to see the aging process documented this way.

Dalton McLiar is now saying he had no idea how much shutting down the plants would cost...very convenient that addmitting he did could find him and his caucus in contempt of legislature.

http://www.torontosun.com/2013/05/07/former-premier-dalton-mcguinty-testifies-at-gas-plant-committee

Kinda makes the Ford witchunt over using stationary to raise funds for football look quaint....(and no Ford dans, that doesn't give him a free pass on the rest of the crap he's pulled)

May 7, 2013 @ 12:44 PM

Argie

Phil,

Since they can't arrest him (can you imagine this wanker in prison?), they should withhold his pension.

May 7, 2013 @ 1:12 PM

Mississauga Phil

@ Argie - My hope is that they can prove he knew and he and his entire caucus can be brought up on contempt charges.

...this would probably put a big hole in JT's federal campaign as well. I know Provincial and Federal Lib's are separate in theory, but.....Liberal is Liberal

Cheryl

I love my Habs. Too bad if you don't. The Habs are my team and they will win tonight. Please don't let the Leafs win the cup. If they do, I have to hide in a hole so someone has to help me dig it.

I just downloaded Lady Antebellum's new album from Itunes. It's called Golden. It's an excellent album. You guys should get it.

Anyway, hopefully Bob Seger had a great birthday yesterday. I hope you guys listened to him. Bob Seger is great. His slow songs are the best because you can really hear his beautiful voice. boy, he's so good.

My dilemma…

Although I want to give Wynne a chance, after everything that's occurred with McGinty I can't vote liberal at the next election. And when I hear or see Tim Hudak...I just want to punch him in the face (he seems constantly pissed off or constipated, you pick). NDP, as always, is a joke...where or where is John Tory?

May 8, 2013 @ 7:43 AM

Argie

Wayner,

Why would you want to give Wynne a chance? She was scary as the Education minister and will be even more scary as Premier. She's started off quietly in light of the many Liberal fiascos but give her time, she'll will be even more destructive than McLiar.

Hudak and Tory are pretty much the same guy - except Hudak is usually pissed off.

May 8, 2013 @ 9:03 AM

Dave Williams

@Phil; if Rob Ford would have been even small percentage corrupt as Premier Dad, you and others that hate Ford for no real reason would be calling for the man to hang without a trial.
Hudak is the man to lead us out of the financial dire straights that the Liberals have left us in.
Sad thing is most that post here are former Dalton supporters, but now deny that they voted for him.

May 8, 2013 @ 10:34 AM

mississsuga phil

@ Dave - if you read what I posted, I am no fan of Dalton. I specifically stated how silly it is that Ford got attacked over fundraising while Dalton seems to be getting away with waisting millions, if not Billions of tax dollars

However, just because Dalton is a liar and a crook doesn't mean that Ford has done no wrong either. I voted for Hudak and his team last time, and will do so again.

@TOMike,

So I caught up on Toronto Mike'd this weekend. It's amazing how much work you can get done building a data centre listening to podcasts.

1 thing: YOUR MIKE IS TOO LOUD. I have to crank the volume to hear Rosie or Monica (In her shoes) but then you come booming in!

Other than that, great content, thanks for the mentions.

It's Wednesday am I too late??? date night last night and we went and saw Iron Man. I like it more and more as I think about it. Not nearly as cartoony as the rest or the Avengers. And still had some humour and LOTS of stuff blowing up.

I'm afraid to look at any leaf games. I can't take the stress. Let me know once they have eliminated boston! :)

@Phil, the key difference between Dalton and Ford is that one has factual evidence of misconduct and the other has fabricated evidence of misconduct.
Sadly, people in this province have backed a proven liar for the better part of a decade and bought was he was selling, while a hard working politician has had the same people that bought into the deceit do every unethical thing to attempt to tear him down.

May 8, 2013 @ 12:42 PM

For all who think I bash Ford needlessly. I've attached a link to great story from the Sun. Ford was at the Leafs game on Monday...drinking gingerale out of a beer cup...not beer...gingerale. If you read the story, he even let the reporter take a sip....Kudos to Ford for some self control...it really is a great article....worth a read...Still not a Ford fan, would vote against him if I got a vote, but credit where it is due.

Believe it or not, my mic isn't too loud... I'm too loud compared to them. I project and get right on the mic...

From now on, when I see other people are not projecting the same, I will lower my gain.

My Habs lost last night. They had a lead and I thought they would hold it, but they didn't and they lost the game in overtime. Well, I hope the Leafs lose. That's what I need, so go Bruins and if my Habs lose tomorrow, they will be eliminated. That wouldn't be good.

Looks like Tuesday Open Mike was a hit! I thought I was on this site at sometime yesterday or today.. clearly not because this is the first I see this! Too bad about Katherine Chancelor! I watched that show through high school and university and on and off through the years. I've got back to watching it recently and she was still in it - she was playing a sick person, but didn't realize t was real life.

I'm not even going to discuss the sad end to the Leaf game tonight... :-(

3 cheers for our useless federal government. It wasn't enough they try to muzzle the scientists we all pay for, not they are telling them what kinds of things they are allowed to research. Sorry I mean only things that have a business application.

http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2013/05/07/national-research-council-industry-science_n_3229738.html

Another nail in the coffin for a once progressive shining light in the world.

May 9, 2013 @ 10:56 AM

Cheryl

Well, that was a happy ending for the Leafs. My Habs will win tonight to stay alive. Leafs lose tomorrow night so I don't have to hide in a hole. No cup for the Leafs.

May 9, 2013 @ 11:12 AM

Dave Williams

@Ben; you clearly missed the point that was made. The government is attempting to "manage" the funds that are available to the scientists. Although the research funding is a nessessity, these people seem to lose their focus on what the research funds were made available for.
Kudo's to The Harper Government to make these people accountable for the funds that they are spending. After all it is our tax dollars that the government manages for us.

May 9, 2013 @ 12:54 PM

Ben Vidal

@ Dave Williams: Once again you miss the point. First the Harper government says you can't talk about what you are researching unless we approve it. Then they say you can only research what we say is appropriate in terms of big business.

The people want scientists that are working for the people and working for greater good, not working for big business results. Clearly you don't see the implications of what this will do for big business' in Canada.

Some of the greatest inventions, innovations, cures, scientific progress was made not by being told what you can and can't research.

Clearly someone as obtuse as yourself doesn't seem to recognize it. Instead you must have a pre eval on all research before it can be done in your world. I think it's time to go back to getting coffee for your boss.

May 9, 2013 @ 1:52 PM

Tron

@ phil, I can't tell if you are being sarcastic on the "ford/beer/ale" column. It sure looks like beer, it's in a beer cup,but it's ginger ale? The whole thing sounds absurd. The writer, said he "drank" from the cup? If he was there couldn't he just see it or smell it? Why go to such an over-the-top and unbelivable step to prove his political buddy is innocent from drinking?

I don't give a crap if he drinks or not (I do care if he walks around the city drunk though) but if he drinks a beer I don't care. But again his brother said he hasn't seen Rob drink. Which again is an absurd lie that even his supporters don't believe it. That's the very weird thing about these brothers, I really think they have are complusive liars, they just say things out three and don't care.

As for another story, I was watching council yesterday after 7pm when the hockey game was on and it was just sad. The Chair Nunziata was giving out scores and the Mayor was running in and out when hearing cheers from the gallary. I was watching and thought is this adults working or kids? It leaves me shaking my head

As for Dalton. I think everybody is hypocrite on waste. When "your team does it" it's okay. When the other side does it it's an outrage! The people who talk about power plants waste but hardly talk about G20 waste done or the missing 3Billion by the other side is ignored. And vise versa. Nobody has credibility.

May 9, 2013 @ 2:36 PM

Mississauga Phil

@ Tron - no man, no sarcasm. It was refreshing to see the responsible side of the Mayor. And I don't have a "team" if the PC's get into power and fraudulently mismanage our tax dollars like the Libs did...I'll scream for their head.

That's why I don't affiliate myself with any political party/ politician. People who identify themselves as Liberal or Conservatives then think they have to defend anything their chosen champion does, no matter how irresponsible/ embarrassing/ criminal (Dave W I'm looking at you.....)
