I hate to start things on a negative note - OK, maybe "hate" is too strong a word. Well it turns out one of the dirt bag terror "suspects" (suspects, yeah right) was ordered deported in 1998. That's right 1998 - 15 effing years ago. WTF is he still doing in this country?

Its just farther evidence that Canada's immigration/refugee system (actually its a taxpayer funded trough) is so screwed. Not only has he been living for free, free healthcare, free everything else, this piece of shit wants to blow up a passenger train. This country is a joke.

Ohhhh, I wanted to be 1st, if only to say, the Leafs are in the playoffs and everything is A-OK in Toronto today.
Everyone : get outside, get some fresh air, leave the negativity behind, keep your hope (economic, peace, playoff ) alive and have a great day!

A Maple Leafs vs. Habs first round will be absolutely crazy. I can't wait.

It's been a long time coming.

@Argie

Didn't want to go there at the moment, but I agree 100%. Oh, and he doesn't acknowledge the criminal code either.

I'm a hardass when it comes to immigration and deportation and I am not ashamed to say so.

Double digits in southern SK today!!! That's two days in a row and the snow and ice are disappearing fast.

With the demise of igoogle fast approaching, I've been playing around with "Symbaloo" (symbaloo.com) and "ighome" (ighome.com) this morning. I like them both, but will certainly look at something else if someone has a better alternative.

@Argie, there is a bleeding heart sector of the Canadian populus that defends the rights of these type of people. These same people keep finding loopholes that allow crap like this to remain free in our society. Our government has to get tough on this. If a person is in Canada without the proper verifiable documentation. They should be immediately detained and escorted back to where they come from on the next available flight.

If I were drafting a playoff pool on Monday in a very dark and scary place, who would be some good first round grabs?

The only thing tha can screw up a Leafs/Habs 1st round are the bloody senators winning their last two games.
Is it possible??

I meant to add and the Leafs lose Saturday night.

Listening earlier this week in Ohio to US debate on the radio about "terrorists" and what should be done immediately to strengthen the Patriot Act laws to make immigration into the US harder and deportation easier among other idea's. It all sounded logical to me.
Maybe they need to start treating anyone, regardless of where they were born, who walk in to public places and start shooting innocent people as “terrorists”. Maybe then there would be the same appetite for gun law reforms. Just sayin.

The big Humble and Fred announcement has apparently been made by SiriusXM:

http://www.siriusxm.ca/Spruce-It-Up/Canada-Update.aspx

Thanks for the exclusive, guys!

It'll be another distribution platform for the show. So it's a podcast that doubles as a show on some Astral stations and triples as a show on SiriusXM.

April 26, 2013 @ 10:51 AM

markosaar

So did anyone not figure out they were coming to satellite radio like over a month ago?

April 26, 2013 @ 10:57 AM

Cheryl

Go Habs. Habs all the way. that's the way to go. They will win and the Leafs will fall. Anyway, Habs will win the cup so there's lots more hockey left. As for terrorists, what's this country coming to? It's scary, really it is. Who knows why they're letting them in. Well, I didn't know much of George Jones's stuff. The country I like is the modern stuff. too bad he's gone though.

April 26, 2013 @ 11:27 AM

Arlene Bynon is on Sirius?
That's not the enticement I need to finally get satellite radio...

April 26, 2013 @ 11:41 AM

Hey Mike, what does XM Sirius pay for the Humble and Fred show?

Just curious... Ward and Al announced the same deal recently. Ward and Al are nobodies and I'd have to believe Humble and Fred are getting a much better deal.

@Gump

Now we know where Arlene Bynon is resurfacing after getting turfed by 640. That's an answer to a question nobody is asking.

@No Dope

I'm not privy to the specifics of Ward and Al's satellite deal and I'm not going to share any details of Humble and Fred's deal. Needless to say, the more ears their show gets via various platforms, the more they can charge advertisers.

The station that will air Humble and Fred is called Canada Laughs.

April 26, 2013 @ 11:47 AM

Ben Vidal

Arlene Bynon was perhaps the worst radio personality ever on the airwaves. I truly think that she screened callers so that they were almost as boring as she was.

The only person close to her is that bag of wind Adler. Has anyone told him to stop using his radio voice to sound proper and instead just talk?

@Argie: As for you what you said I agree with you for the most part. I would only argue that the refugee system hasn't always been broken and I would say it isn't completely broken. I have a co worker that came from communist Czech Republic. Their family came here as refugees and fled Czech in the middle of the night. Canada provided them an appartment, food, jobs, clothing. The entire family successfully contributes to society as a result. So we can't look at it as being a completely broke system. I just think in the case you are referring to he should have had his ass booted back to a stateless Palestine regardless.

Some things I just don't understand.

Rob Ford grabs a woman's ass and the internet suffers a nuclear meltdown with condemnation. A couple of weeks ago we find out that over a thousand people received diluted chemotherapy drugs and not a SINGLE comment has been posted here critical of the Liberal Government or the Ministry of Health. Suffering from cancer wasn't horrific enough. Suddenly you are told the treatment you are receiving by the health care system isn't the right dosage. You are now even more scared and vulnerable. Everyone in this province should be angry. But you aren't.
Why do you want to vote for this government again? What are you so afraid of?? Does a case of beer sold at No Frills really that scary?

April 26, 2013 @ 6:07 PM

Corey

I actually believe that if the Leafs get the Habs in the first round, they'll do some damage in the playoffs. All I keep thinking is it would be just our luck for this to be a miracle season in which the Leafs win it all, only to have to hear, "Yeah, they could only win it over a 48-game schedule" for the rest of time. Does the idea of the Leafs winning a championship during a lockout shortened season bother anyone else?

April 26, 2013 @ 6:27 PM

Blind Dave

Ok, I'll take Wednesday too as long as Friday remains constant.

April 26, 2013 @ 7:23 PM

Not in the least. I think 50-ish games is a damned good benchmark for the quality of a season.

And besides, the playoffs are a battle of attrition. It's no easier now given the one game every two nights compact schedule of this year.

Toronto Mike Sued?!?!?!?!

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/hockey/former-leafs-general-manager-brian-burke-files-defamation-suit/article11585739/

Former Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke has filed a lawsuit with B.C. Supreme Court, saying he was defamed in online comments accusing him of having an extra-marital affair with a sports reporter.

Burke alleges the online comments published by 18 people, whose identities are unknown to him, are untrue.

MORE RELATED TO THIS STORY

The statements, which the court documents say were widely circulated on social media, claim that Burke was fired as the president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs because what the comments say was a sexual relationship with Rogers Sportsnet reporter Hazel Mae.

“Contrary to popular belief, the reason for Burke’s firing was not his willingness to pull off the Roberto Luongo trade...” says one of the comments noted in the court documents. “Well it didn’t take long for Brian Burke and Hazel Mae to hook up. In the summer of 2012, Sportsnet removed her from the glass desk because she wouldn’t fit, insisting that she stand while on air.”

The online postings went on to suggest that Mae was pregnant, and that the “lucky dad” is Burke.

In a statement released on Friday, Burke’s lawyer Peter Gall said the comments, allegedly made under pseudonyms such as “Slobberface” and “Mowerman,” are false and defamatory, and that they have hurt both Burke’s and Mae’s families.

“Brian has decided that it is time to stop people who post comments on the Internet from thinking they can fabricate wild stories with impunity,” Gall said. “Brian is determined to find the authors of the lie about him and those who have circulated the lie.”

The court documents say Burke is suing for losses and damages to his reputation. His lawyer is also seeking to have each of the 18 defendants restrained from publishing the statements on the Internet.

None of the claims have been proven in court, and a statement of defence has not been filed.

Burke, who is married to CTV News Channel anchor Jennifer Burke, was fired as the general manager of the Leafs in January. The former Vancouver Canucks general manager is now the part-time scout for the Anaheim Ducks.

If he won, it would change everything. Facebook would be sued into oblivion. As would Twitter. And big forums like Reddit? Forget about it. Google would be screwed.
