I could go without a cell phone. I have a landline. We all survived just fine without cell phones before they became practically universal. I am even known to turn my cell phone off! My dental hygiene means keeping my toothbrush, although there are alternative approaches.

Tough call.. but I think I'd have to keep my toothbrush.

But that would be a shitty week without the phone.

March 25, 2013 @ 12:14 PM

Even if you'd give up the toothbrush, who has the balls to admit it?

March 25, 2013 @ 12:16 PM

Is this a serious question??

If you can't pry your phone out of your hands for a week- you've got issues... unless it's business related.

However, you'll need the phone if you don't brush your teeth for a week as no one will get close enough to talk to you.

March 25, 2013 @ 12:17 PM

you'd be surprised

Some people check their phone 150 times a day and can't give it up for a day let alone a week.

Especially younger people.

Can I still use my finger to brush my teeth?

I'll give up my toothbrush and use a substitute.

What substitute? Your finger?

March 25, 2013 @ 12:32 PM

I have gone for a week without a cell phone. I occasionally forget it in the glovebox of my car or whatever. Or I let the battery die, and don't check it for so long that I might as well have gone without it.

March 25, 2013 @ 12:52 PM

What's a cell phone???

March 25, 2013 @ 1:00 PM

I suppose you could use mouthwash. But hygiene and health trumps convenience, if it's either/or.

March 25, 2013 @ 1:20 PM

Don't even have to think about it.

...although I did use an app on my phone to remind me to floss my teeth every night until it became an obsessive habit...

March 25, 2013 @ 1:21 PM

If I had to, I could go without my phone for a week, but if it's only a toothbrush I'm giving up, I'm fine with that.

As for cleaning my teeth, I'd use a combination of my finger with toothpaste, gum, mouthwash, toothpick and floss.

You kids and your loopholes!

Can't go without my phone, don't have a landline.

March 25, 2013 @ 3:43 PM

Phone.. not even close. Without a phone, you need to 'talk' to people. I think they'd appreciate it if you had clean breath.

March 25, 2013 @ 4:23 PM

I would brush my teeth with my phone, and floss with the charger cable. Take that, loophole!

March 25, 2013 @ 4:23 PM

I could go a week without a toothbrush because my phone has a toothbrush app.

I don't have a cellphone, but if it means turning off my Primus phone, then no way. What happens in an emergency if someone needs to get a hold of me or I need to call someone. It wouldn't work if I didn't have my home phone. I would floss and use my finger to brush my teeth if I had to.

A cell phone, yes.
A smartphone, no.

March 25, 2013 @ 6:16 PM

Not even a question, give up the phone!

Hey Mike,

Again, loved, loved, loved the latest, "She's So Young" podcast - in it, your Mom says she wishes she could persuade you and your lovely bride-to-be to put your phones down. So I thought it was cute when I saw this question. My answer? It'd be really tough but if I had to, I could do the phone. But SO much data sits in that thing.

We were at my mom's place for lunch on Sunday, and for a 2 hour conversation at the table, no phone was touched. That was easy. But my phone was by my side because I like to know my kids can reach me 24/7.

The fact is, I'm not one of those people who meets up with a friend or family member and checks his phone throughout the visit / convo. But, I do enjoy my phone. I have no land line, so not only is it my only phone but it's the world's collective knowledge at my finger tips. Not to mention business emails, those awesome site comments, Twitter, sports scores, news updates and so much more.

It's just awesome and I'm glad I have it. But it doesn't interfere with my friendships and family get-togethers.

Well said.

I love my android phone, but I do not let it interfere with family time. Our house rule is no phones at the supper table.

Mine actually rang twice last night during supper. It stayed in my pocket.

I could give up the phone easily. Not a smart Phone user so, just an old crappy Nokia flip phone. I like it that way.
