Vidal Sassoon, Dead at 84

In MemoriumVidal Sassoon was 84. He was a widely recognized British hairdresser, credited with creating a simple geometric, "Bauhaus-inspired" hair style, also called the bob.

I only know his name because of ads like this and couldn't be escaped in the 80s.

I remember a long time ago going to a Vidal Sassoons salon. My mom used to take me there. They are a pain. You have to go to a change room and change into a gown first. that's a real pain and the wait times are long as well. At least they were when I went. Didn't know there was a person named Vidal Sassoon until now though. Sorry he died.

Despite the jeopardous situation each of those women seemed to be in, it's good to know their hair was on point.

@Cheryl. There are higher-end salons that still make you go into a room to put on the smock. I used to go to one a few years back that not only did that, but they'd also give me a glass of wine while they cut my hair. Fantastic!

Of course, that's nothing compared to the old-timey barbers who would offer up a selection of choice pornography while you relaxed in the chair, which I never really understood. It's like a dog that chases a car. What's it gonna do when it catches it? In other words, what's the point?

I didn't get a glass of wine there. They didn't do that. I just remember having to go to another floor to a change room and take everything off and put on a gown and then sit and wait until the person who was ready to do my hair was ready, and they would often run behind schedule. Well, it was so long ago.
