An answer* to my question upon your Jan. 2nd entry is wished for. [It's all in the Game].
-Whether you've watched any classic TV like All in the Family or (original Twilight Zone). I haven't seen an episode of the Wire.
You were born in the mid 70s, maybe you took a pass and assumed mid 1980s Cheese spoiled back right into the 1950s?
* Well, that and re-employment for myself in Toronto.

Yes, I've seen a great deal of All in the Family. In fact, just a few months ago I watched the episode where Edith almost gets raped. Great show...

I've seen a few Twilight Zone episodes, and always like it, but I haven't sought out more for some reason. Not sure why...

Oh... and I've re-read your point about mid-80s cheese a few times now, and I still have no idea what you're asking or saying.

Every decade has cheese. The masses enjoy cheese.

I wish. No, I do not blog full-time.

1980s sitcoms and dramas - I find to be - a lot lamer and safer by formula than overall TV during other decades. Few would consider Alf, Simon and Simon, or Hangin 'In (CBC), great TV. That was the dominant level of the North American boobtube during your core youth years.
BTW, that All in the Family episode aired tonight on Antenna TV, followed by a second post-rape episode. Last night's listing had a funeral for a unrealized Lesbian cousin.

Why was Billy from Mad Dog and Billy fired?

Your candidates are:

Ron Paul,
Rick Santorum

How was the beer in Germany, taste anything really good?

Time for Cheryl to chime in - LOL, just like her HAB NOTS

I'm not certain why Billie was fired. I know her contract wasn't renewed... rumours are that Mad Dog Jay wanted her out, but that's merely speculation.

Can I plead the fifth on that one? Sounds like cruel and inhumane punishment.

I'll marry the one that lets me enjoy porn.... I don't think that's Santorum.

Ok Mike...

So, lets say that the Maple Leafs franchise folds (I wish!)

Then what team would you love with all of your heart?

January 13, 2012 @ 9:34 AM

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

@4x4 Time

I spent a lot of time with Germans, and they seem to focus on three beverages:

Coffee
Water
Beer

The Coffee is always very good, and it starts in the morning and continues throughout the day. Lots and lots of coffee.

The water is always served in glass bottles. There was no plastic bottle action like we have here in North America. Many, many glass bottles of either still or sparkling water.

At lunch and dinner, it's beer. Whatever my German friends ordered, I'd have the same. The wheat beers were very popular, and everything tasted great, but I can't remember the names...

If the Leafs franchise folded, I'd go with Edmonton.

In the 80s, while my Leafers battled for fourth place in the Norris, I loved watching the Oilers for obvious reasons. I'd adopt the team with all my heart if the Leafs disappeared.

Did I miss something? Weren't Humble and Fred supposed to make a big announcement about a media conglomerate this week? Haven't had time to listen to the podcasts but I know I haven't found anything on this website, Freddie P's website, or the show's website.

The announcement is imminent. By the end of the month, for sure.

In fact, I'd look for it the day they have Bob McCown on the podcast...

I've spent some time lately thinking about how to better monetize the Toronto Mike brand. Currently, some money comes through Adsense, and more comes through the selling of textual links for SEO. But that's really just gas / Starbucks money.

There are some very early discussions about starting a Toronto-centric podcast and stuff like that. Just spitballing at this point.

I still regard this thing as a hobby site where I practice various SEM techniques and vent / share for therapeutic reasons.

January 13, 2012 @ 4:05 PM

Geoff

Well ... thanks for venting / sharing ...

Know you are a big Pearl Jam fan...Are you one of those guys that know every word to every song they play and sing along 100% of the time?

Last show, I felt like I was the only guy in the ACC not doing this...and they are my favorite band. But how the hell do people know 100% of the words to every song?

Anyway, do you have a favorite PJ record? If so, which one?

Yeah, I sing along to every song. Well, almost every song. There are some recent album cuts I don't know as well.

I even sway to the music. What else happens at a Pearl Jam show, stays at a Pearl Jam show.

For years I swore by Vitalogy. Then No Code. Lately, I've been all over the place, even diving back into Ten and Vs.

Hey Mike, hope Germany was nice.

Kate brings up a juicy bit of content for H&F. After doing some snooping I haven't been able to figure out much of what happened there. She had recently announced her separation on air prior to being shit caned, doesn't keep in contact with her co host of I don't know how many years, and was the co host that took over after humble left (I think). Lots of good insider stuff to talk about on the show. Any chance?

January 13, 2012 @ 8:22 PM

With a job/career, blog life, 2 young kids, playing sports, watching the Wire, JavaScript and XMLQuery debugging, how do you keep the marriage working?
If I hear of one more separation I'm going to scream (3 over the holidays)...

Jason from Sudbury

@Toronto Mike: Have you tried figuring out what Eddie is singing in Yellow Ledbetter?

As far as the Habs, dont even get me started. I'm pissed. What a shit show! Gauthier needs to be fired asap. As far as I'm concerned he should've been fired for signing Tomas Kaberle. Definitely a fireable offence.
As far as the Cammeleri trade, I dont believe this bullshit that they've been discussing this for a month. And Rene Bourque? Seriously? Ok so he's not as bad as Kaberle, but he's still under contract till 2015 and I feel this may be an other albatross around their neck.
I think they hit the panick button. Personally I would've kept Cammeleri, or, if he had to be traded, at least shop him around and try to get some value, dont go to the first team that comes along.

I don't actually want to attend the outdoor game, I just want the 24/7 treatment!

That 'back door' thing still has me pissed. A complete violation of trust, if you ask me, and I'l elaborate further after my son's hockey game.

Off to George Bell Arena!

There are three parts to this story.

1. The initial slight which was pretty damn hurtful
2. The violation of trust which still boggles my mind
3. The meatus-ification of yours truly, something I have no interest in participating in

I'm going to be a little more patient before opening up on this one...

What has happened to Optimus Reim, I guess the Monster won the battle for now.

Reimer is same as Raycroft after he won Calder Rookie of the year & what has Raycroft done since.

Reimer is a great team player, but hasn't played to ability since his "head shot" months ago.

January 14, 2012 @ 6:26 PM

Mike, pour your heart out as you have a lot of support on you site.

This must be something that really "damaged" you.

I & others are concerned.

January 14, 2012 @ 6:30 PM

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

@andrew

Reimer hasn't had a chance to find his groove following his concussion. There's been no time for him to play out of it when we badly need points right now.

Monster's been the hot hand, so I don't blame Wilson for sticking with him. It's going to be a dog fight to make the playoffs and we can't afford to wait Reimer out.

Still, I hope he gets a start here and there and is able to play his way back. This Monster success feels like an apparition.

True or False? When you were younger, your brothers and your friends hung posters of girl teen idols on their bedroom walls, you put up posters of Steve Jobs and Star Wars characters?

Steve Jobs? My phone is android and my desktop runs Ubuntu Linux. Although when really young I did have a Star Wars poster in my room.

But then it was Public Enemy. Public Enemy posters, boyz.

Mike-- George Bell arena is where my hockey career ended at centre ice on a knee to knee hit in 1973 playing for Royal York Ranger bantams. Broke my femur and knee cap and carried off ice into hallway and my trainer grabs my leg and starts moving it and telling me its just a bad bruise . Ouch
