What The Hell Are You Doing to the Blog, Mike?

question markMy brothers think my blog sucks now. I don't know if I agree with them, but it has been over nine years of following the exact same format. That's 10786 entries I've thrown down, and the risk is a long, sad fade...

its-better-to-burn-out

Rust never sleeps, so it's time to shake things up a bit. You've likely already noticed the first change. After 10786 entries authored by yours truly, I've shared logins with five others.

You've already seen entries from three of the five. Funny commenter Ryan G (who I've never met) posted an essay on the weirdness of it all, the infamous Bev wrote about her trip to Jamaica, and Humble Howard contributed a very interesting article about how he's dealing with being fired from his morning gig on Boom 97.3.

I mentioned five others have writing permissions on this blog right now. I'm going to wait for the last two to post something so it will be a surprise. Is it Argie? Is it OJ Boy? Is it Dan Duran?

Having new authors has created one little wrinkle with my Twitter account. New blog entries automatically update the RSS feed (as they should) and the RSS feed automatically generates a new Tweet from my @torontomike account. That likely spooked a few friends and family members when they saw this:

If you're wondering, I'm going to continue to do my thing, there'll just be a few additional authors over here. I've edited the HTML so it clearly tells you who the author of each entry is, so you'll know whose words you're reading.

And I may add more authors, so let me know if you'd like your own login. After all, I'm shaking things up over here. I have 10786 reasons to try something new.

I think that ChantelleintheCity should come on board as your new Blue Jays correspondent!

I read your entries in Google Reader, and it is not clear that there is a different author for these new entries (well, apart from the writing style!). It all makes sense now!

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

@Claire

You're right!

I edited the HTML on the site so it says "by Toronto Mike" or "by Humble Howard" or whatever, but I never edited the RSS.

I'll do that now so even those of us who read this stuff in Google Reader or wherever will know who the author is. Great idea.

yea, what are you doing Mike? after all, it's not like it's YOUR blog or anything..

Attention RSS subscribers!

The title will now be Title by Author, as you'll see here: http://feeds2.feedburner.com/TorontoMike

That should fix the Twitterfeed issue as well.

Hey Mike,

I think the success of guest columns at most blogs are when those guest columns are not of a personal nature. For the first few posts from the guest authors, personal is fine to introduce them, but I'd encourage them to write more non-personal stuff, like something about Toronto, or presenting an opposing view on Rob Ford from your own, or something like that.

Your most successful posts are probably the ones that are not as much on your own life, but on other things. The same would hold true for the guest authors. An example: Humble Howard can blog on radio in Toronto as his next post, independent of himself.

Just a suggestion.

It's an interesting move, but yours to make.

Of course having a Toronto celebrity in the mix doesn't hurt.

I won't read if Argie posts though. His thoughts aren't anything I deem worthwhile.
I'm guessing an appropriate alternative point of view may be Irvine. At least he bases his opinions on facts and not hate.

I don't think your blog sucks, Mike. If I did, and still showed up for a regular read, that would make me a lugan (borrowed from Stafford).

I'd definitely read if Argie were to lay down some syllables.

I'll watch the experiment with interest.

Your family must have flipped with worry to think you'd be canned. Although adding the word, "again" should have tipped them off.

Brother Ryan

I think this will make the blog suck more!!! Sorry Mike. LOL

But I do like the guest bloggers, specifically Ryan who has always been a favorite of mine.

What a name too!!!!

McNulty,

You're such a woman. You and your fellas love to throw the 'hate' word around so much its lost all meaning.

Where's that tolerance you and your boys are always talking about? Just because I dont approve of your lifestyle choices, does not mean I hate you. I will continue to pray for you.

My lifestyle choices?

What lifestyle choices?

Please elaborate.
Enlighten me.
