Kris Versteeg, We Hardly Knew Thee

leafsAs you've likely heard by now, Brian Burke has traded Kris Versteeg to the Philadelphia Flyers for first and third round draft picks in 2011. You can put a fork in Versteeg's Maple Leaf tenure at 53 games. He just arrived via trade on July 1.

Back then, Versteeg cost us Viktor Stalberg and prospects Chis DiDomenico and Philippe Paradis. So, really.. when you think about it.. we gave up Viktor Stalberg and prospects Chis DiDomenico and Philippe Paradis for a first and third round draft pick and Bill Sweatt. Would you make that trade? I would.

Even though Versteeg raps...

I was a fan of Versteeg, but this trade seems to make sense. So good bye Kris.. thanks for a half season of effort.

He'll do a lot better with the Flyers.

a first and a third? wow, The Flyers mortgaged their draft this year for him? If he doesn't deliver them a cup it wasn't worth it

Whitby - Clark

FYI - Bill Sweatt never ended up signing with the Leafs. He went to Free Agency and the Canucks signed him to an entry level contract. He's currently playing for the Manitoba Moose.

Philly is obviously going for it this year. Way too much for Versteeg. But Philly is making their old mistake. Get a goaltender you idiots...
Good job Burke getting Philly to overpay...

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

Didn't know that about Bill Sweatt. Thanks for the correction.

David Im in agreement, Burke hasn't exactly lit Toronto on fire since taking over as GM but its been shown in order to turn a franchise around that has struggled for several years you need many, top, quality draft picks and he got an extra first rounder and a third rounder for Versteeg, definitely not worth it, most GMs would have been lucky to get a 2nd round pick and leave it at that. But now you guys have two first rounders this year and two third rounders right? Burke has to have a good draft this year or fans of the Leafs have to start yelling bloody murder.
