Tie Domi

It's a tie. Both are rediculous.

December 3, 2010 @ 12:01 PM

Leafs for the long, slow screw!

At least Ford will be gone in four years.

December 3, 2010 @ 12:12 PM

So far, Toronto Maple Leafs. But only because we haven't seen much of Rob Ford. Maybe he won't mess around too much with what makes urban Toronto great, but privatize some services and deregulate some laws to make it easier for businesses and entrepreneurs like street food vendors and restaurants which for some reason can't have "backyard" patios or a second floor. He could work to extend Toronto's last call. Perhaps he'll expand our lousy subway network. I'm still optimistic.

December 3, 2010 @ 12:26 PM

Rob Ford. We didn't vote the Leafs into office.

I started this on Twitter, so here's what happened there...

@Rockstar_Aimz That's a tough call. RT @torontomike: Trying to decide what's more embarrassing: our hockey team or our mayor

@hear_it_here @torontomike Rob Ford the new Leafs coach?

@DownGoesBrown @torontomike The mayor situation can be fixed in a few years.

@Jbarr @torontomike Hockey team. Much more global public embarassment.

@petekic @torontomike C'mon Mike...really?

December 3, 2010 @ 12:45 PM

Pension Plan Puppets

Ford by a mile because he'll screw non-Leafs fans in Toronto too. Idiot got locked in his own office. Great work voters.

December 3, 2010 @ 12:48 PM

Although Ford is realistically a bigger embarrassment (and actually matters), I doubt many people outside of southern Ontario know who he is. I'm sure you don't know who the mayor of Montreal is, but you know they are doing much better than the Leafs. Therefore due to shear public knowledge I vote the Leafs

December 3, 2010 @ 1:06 PM

Leafs without question... As mayor, its way too quick to pass judgement, whereas the Leafs are responsible for too many years of futility, and what seems like many more bad years to follow.
What's also an embarrassment is the leafs fans' (myself included) inability to detach themselves from this destructive love-hate relationship/obsession with the Leafs. Relationships are supposed to be two-way with both sides giving and receiving. So far the fans have done the bulk of the giving, while the Leafs have consistently returned our loyalty with lumps of coal (which'll give you free access to the platinum club, because that's what really important to Leafs Nation + MLSE's definition of "giving back").

Please... I'd rather watch a playoff team from the standing room section instead of pampering myself to "a luxurious dining experience" in the midst of fake fans in overpriced suits watching a corporate money-grabbing business.

Ranting is fun, ain't it?

December 3, 2010 @ 1:09 PM

Hand's down it is the Leafs. Ford hasn't done anything to embarrass the city at this point. Can I offer up a third choice? I'd like to nominate Iggie...That is a real embarrassment and, should he luck into the top job in Ottawa, the whole country will be embarrassed. Now that is some power.

It's an honour just being nominated.

December 3, 2010 @ 3:12 PM

the leafs because ford wont last long

December 3, 2010 @ 4:05 PM

The Leafs suck factor is just a way of life I accept. One vote for Rob Ford.

December 3, 2010 @ 4:06 PM

I too vote for Rob Ford. Maybe in four years, everyone will come to their senses and vote him out of office and vote for George Smitherman. I never did like the Leafs because I'm a Habs fan all the way.

December 3, 2010 @ 4:30 PM

Cheryl is a Habs fan? Hmm, learn something new everyday.

December 3, 2010 @ 4:43 PM

Miller was the biggest embarrasment of all time for this city. We were so close to becoming a clogged toilet that couldn't be flushed anymore.

Give it up Mike. Give the guy a chance...isn't that the creed of all left wing-nuts like yourself? Or are you just a hypocrite like all left wing-nuts everwhere.

December 3, 2010 @ 4:47 PM

I think the bigger concern is that people still came (come) out in droves to support both. I mean look at just how much money MLSE has taken with such an awful product... and then there's Rob Ford.

@mlse Leafs only hurt psyche, Ford's a moron RT @torontomike The Leafs vs. Rob Ford: Which is Greater Toronto Embarrassment?

@petekic @torontomike lol I'll agree on the Leafs part but they have brought shame for just realized now? Getting shutout ever 4 games?!

@theactivestick @torontomike I would argue Ford because the people of Toronto did not choose the Leafs players or coaches.

@WestAnnexNews Rob Ford v. The Leafs, who is the pinnacle of our civic Hall of Shame @torontomike? Ford, hands down. We didn't vote for the Leafs.

@_Justink @torontomike Ford an embarrassment? He's exactly the mayor we need, unless you like annoying bike lanes and grass on roofs.

December 3, 2010 @ 5:04 PM

The Leafs. People outside of the 416 wish they had Ford for mayor. Nobody wants the Leafs.

Leafs by 42 years

#1..What a effin stewpid effin question............
Mr. Ford has been Mayor for a week...

The Toronto Maples have been an embarrassment for almost 50 years....

Mike, maybe this week go out and play in your sandbox and come up with a better debate for next Friday !!!!!

December 3, 2010 @ 5:59 PM

The Leafs (LAFFS) hands down. At least I saw the Stanley Cup parade in 1967 & will probably never see another in my lifetime.

Give Ford a chance - at least he's trying to save $$ which is needed in T.O. Problem was he was the LESSER of 2 evils on Oct. 25th.

December 3, 2010 @ 6:09 PM

Well, Ford isn't very good. Believe me. I hope Smitherman will get in after four years. Everyone will come to their senses and vote for Smitherman. George Smitherman is really a good guy.

December 3, 2010 @ 7:06 PM

Leafs are the bigger embarrasement.

December 3, 2010 @ 7:14 PM

leafs bigger embarrasment...give fatty a chance.

December 3, 2010 @ 7:21 PM

Yeah Ford has been awful - he promises to lower taxes, get rid of street cars, expand the subway, reduce moronic spending on the Arts, get rid of the other socialist fees, etc.

Good question Mike.

December 3, 2010 @ 7:48 PM

Let me guess - you're really George Smotherman aren't you?

"Cheryl", is that the name your husband calls you?

December 3, 2010 @ 7:50 PM

No one ever really says what was wrong with Miller when complaining about him, except for petty or nonsensical stuff. He really changed the city for the better. Miller brought in the green movement of garbage reduction, reducing plastic bags, worked to make cycling safer and more viable, and brought in important greenroof legislation. He got the world's attention and kept Toronto relevant.

Miller was very vocal about transit expansion and however imperfect Transit City was, he got the province onboard. That's leadership. He talked the talk and walked the walk, taking the subway to work. Under Miller, redevelopment of the eastern waterfront began, and we have amazing public spaces to enjoy like the gorgeous Sugar Beach and more on the way. He didn't neglect our most important public space, Nathan Phillips Square, ensuring it would be a functional and beautiful space for the next generation. In short, David Miller was a great leader who deserves the respect of any true Torontonian.

FORD because no matter what i try to do, i can't change the fact that i love this bitch i met when i was 5 or 6 and can't get her out of my mind!!!

I watch her treat me like crap, lie to me, and put little effort into our relationship. However, i do love her nonetheless. Some call it being blind. Some call it being loyal. I call it a disease, which I will name MapleLeafitis. That's right. I've got the itis, and tomorrow i think i am going to spend some time with my bitch.

This disease is going to kill me.....

December 3, 2010 @ 8:26 PM

twins from bolton

The Leafs for sure.
Ford would have our taxes cut in Caledon since they have increased 50% in last 7-8 yrs.

A joke just like the Leafs.

December 3, 2010 @ 8:57 PM

Sherell has a husband? He must be a winner too! Let's pray there are no offspring.

December 3, 2010 @ 9:15 PM

It ain't Ford, as he could never:

Inspire loads of followers - as the other option did a few years back - to make the Rube and Stereotype Meters explode by wearing Rob Ford shirts and yelling "Vote For Ford!" during Conan O'Brien's local tapings.

Have hundreds of supporters paint their faces in his colours while regularly driving hours to watch him debate. And once there, they would never sit for 2 1/2 hours, watching him get slaughtered on point after point, until he grabs a meaningless victory at the end, causing them to erupt as though their hero has just won the Nobel, the FIFA World Cup bid and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

December 3, 2010 @ 9:46 PM

Rick C in Oakville

No brainer it's the Leafs. Give Ford a chance, I don't have any skin in this game being a GTAer, but even if he kicks the union slackers to the curb it will be a great accomplishment.

December 3, 2010 @ 10:32 PM

Mel Lastman

My vote is for Rob Ford, in hopes that they'll forget about that whole botched Olympic bid thing.

December 4, 2010 @ 12:52 AM

The word greater is subjective. The Make Beliefs have been hands down a joke for a longer time than Ro-Fo has been in office. I.E the Liefs exist in a constant state of embarrassment. That being said, Ro-fo will end up causing a greater spike on the embarrassment meter over the next four years than our hapless hockey team will. My vote is for the mayor.

December 4, 2010 @ 12:59 AM

The Leafs, hands down. Ford won an election. What have the Leafs won since 1967? Ford is about making things better. The Leafs are about mediocrity (and that's giving them more than they deserve).

December 4, 2010 @ 1:25 AM

The Leafs.

A lot of people like what Ford is doing or will do. No one likes what the Leafs are doing.

December 4, 2010 @ 5:00 AM

December 4, 2010 @ 7:23 AM

Okay okay. Enough already. I do not have a husband. No, I am not George Smitherman. Both my personal trainer and I really like George Smitherman. We will vote for him again if he runs again. I don't like Rob Ford. I don't trust him. He's full of himself. We need Transit City.

December 4, 2010 @ 8:09 AM

That's it Mike, you leave me no other choice. That thing on four wheels you call a car is toast.

I've sent Mayor Ford to save Toronto and this is how you reward me. There's no need to be upset because Mayor Ford is stopping the construction of more Ho Chi Minh trails.

It's not a question of which is doing a worse job - obviously Rob Ford just started and gets some benefit of the doubt - it's more a question of which is more embarrassing to the city.

I frequent plenty of blogs and forums where the discussion of our new mayor is bringing us great ridicule. MetaFilter, for example, recently had this discussion:

Which is tarnishing our good name more?

December 4, 2010 @ 2:07 PM

Sammi is a news flash...Toronto doesn't have a good name anywhere. We have been ridculed and made fun of for a long time now. Perhaps something different is what we need. I'm guessing you thought Barbara Hall was a great mayor too.

December 4, 2010 @ 3:39 PM

Mel Lastman or Tie Domi being the most popular player of his era and having a 'Night' to honour his length of service?

December 4, 2010 @ 4:16 PM

Tie Domi is a jerk. He's a dirty player, takes too many penalties. That's okay though. He was a leaf. Smitherman would have made a really good mayor if people only gave him a chance which they didn't.

December 4, 2010 @ 4:48 PM

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

Did somebody say Tie Domi?

December 4, 2010 @ 5:16 PM

Yes, Tie Domi is a jerk big time and he's a Leaf. Go Habs.

December 5, 2010 @ 8:23 AM

To quote Sherrell:

"I too vote for Rob Ford." Then back Smitherman?

I think your personal trainer should train you........not to piss on fire hydrants!

December 5, 2010 @ 8:08 PM

Rob Ford.

December 5, 2010 @ 8:34 PM

Fred P.

Rob Ford hasn't enough time as Mayor to be an embarrassment.

But I can tell you this, David Miller was more embarrassing than the Leafs, and so was Bob Rae when he ran the NDP.

So was the city coucil that worked under Miller.

Nothing like bashing a guy before he's given a chance.

You should write for the Star Mike.

December 6, 2010 @ 4:39 PM

George Smitherman is really a great guy. As I said, you don't know him. He's great. He should have won. I do not piss on fire hydrants. My personal trainer is great. He votes for George Smitherman as well.

December 6, 2010 @ 4:52 PM

can we do a re-count? after the Cherry thing today, I would like to change my vote to "Rob Ford".

December 7, 2010 @ 6:34 PM

Stu Dent

Definitely Rob Ford...he's too stupid to see just how stupid he is.

December 7, 2010 @ 8:21 PM

Ford is the bigger a##hole since NOBODY.....

December 7, 2010 @ 9:13 PM

I have to change my vote to Rob Ford today.

December 7, 2010 @ 9:49 PM

Right on. Rob Ford is the embarrassment. He's just plain stupid. I really hope Smitherman is around in four years and then I'll vote for him again. Smitherman wouldn't have had Don Cherry at his speech, that's for sure. George Smitherman is a nice guy and he would make a great mayor.

December 8, 2010 @ 9:56 AM

And Smitherman, like all those before him, would have had a galla event costing the tax payers a fortune...So far so good. One week in and no problems...Just progress. Go Ford!

December 8, 2010 @ 11:55 AM

Jacques Plante

December 8, 2010 @ 3:37 PM

Believe me. George Smitherman is a great guy. He's a lot better than Ford. The Leafs do suck as well though. Go Habs.
