The Choice that Really Wasn't A Choice At All

hangerLast month, I wrote about the problem with my favourite jacket. That's the kind of amazing content you can expect here. In a nutshell, I love my 12-year old leather jacket but the lining and pockets have virtually disappeared, and some might suggest it's time for a new one.

Your comments ran the gamut from "don't be a cheap ass, buy a new jacket" to "do whatever it takes to repair that jacket". I think I started to believe I had a choice to make, but in reality, it wasn't a choice at all. I had to save my old favourite, because that's how I'm wired.

I shopped around, got a bunch of quotes and ended up splurging for a new thinsulate lining, new pockets and a functional zipper. I turned it in yesterday and she'll be as good as new by next fall.

Except she won't be new, and that was the point.

Did you get a new helmet to wear around all day too? I think you need one.

I just realized what this entry is missing... a picture of me in said jacket!

And while I'm doing that, we're due for another shot of me and my gemini award.

Stand by...

Do you feel the same way about your favorite underwear and socks?

@Ryan

No, I don't repair my underwear and socks. They get replaced.

Hey Mike where did you get it repaired? I've got an old Danier that I need the lining redone. My wife says it would be cheaper to buy new but like you I can't part with this jacket.

Rick, it's actually being repaired by Danier.

They'll replace the entire lining for $70.
