All-Day Kindergarten Comes Too Late For Me

schoolMy kids' school will have full-day kindergarten next fall. This is an initiative from Dalton McGuinty's government.

Almost 600 elementary schools across Ontario will be named Tuesday by Premier Dalton McGuinty as the first in the plan to provide a full school day for kindergarten children from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., plus affordable before- and after-school care, should parents want it.

I think this is fantastic, but it's exactly one year too late for me. My youngest starts grade one in the fall. I missed it by thiiiiiis much.

This makes up for the good luck I had in '93 when I was the last graduating class from Michael Power's original location near Islington and Bloor. They moved near Centennial Park in the fall of '93 and I had no interest in that extra commute west.

Even Steven.

My old high school, chock full of academic streamers, was getting 're-branded' as a regional dummy school. So there were a few last class'rs worried about having the school name upon their University of Choice applications. No worries for me; I rec'd a pair of final year 52s* and a fold creased diploma in the mail :)
*The 2nd semester mark I requested after intercepting a mailed out 49% warning notice for a class I was a 80% student in. Walked in, signed a blank exam paper, walked out.

CQ: hold on, rebranded? Eh?

There are rumours my old high school is going to be torn down and integrated with the school behind it. Wow, that's not a very good thing, because Thomson was a good school and Bendale was all trouble.

Still waiting for affordable daycare promised in the Liberal Redbook of 1993. I'm hoping to claim my child care expenses retro-actively for my son born in 1994 (now in grade 10) and my daughter born in 1997 (now in grade 7)
