Strombo Show Now On CBC Radio 2

radioThe Strombo Show is now on CBC Radio 2. George Stroumboulopoulos will get four hours every Sunday night starting November 8th.

Bear with me as I pat myself on the back for calling this back on July 12.

I've got CFNY on the radio, trying to listen to Strombo to hear what he'd say about Martin, but I'm not hearing The Strombo Show. I'm hearing a guy named Jeff Leake playing the typical music 102.1 plays these days, and there's no mention of George Stroumboulopoulos or The Strombo Show. The "S" word hasn't been uttered once.

Did Strombo quit Corus?

One week later, there was more evidence that Strombo and Corus had split ways. By the end of the month, I was calling the death of The Strombo Show on Corus, including 102.1 the Edge / CFNY. Then, I got the call.

George Stroumboulopoulos called my Blackberry and we discussed his ideas for an "independent FM". It was clear from our convo that The Strombo Show was going to resurface somewhere. I think CBC Radio 2 is an ideal home for the show and I can't wait to check it out.

He called you on your "blackberry" - are you trying to be cool?

Who is this show for? Most of his television audience are women aged 45+. Will he be playing the music they like?

Elvis, when you're as cool as I am, you don't need to try.

It just comes naturally.

Did you listen to George when he did his CFRB show?

No. I only heard his Corus show, but I liked it.

This is awesome news. I really think that CBC Radio 2 has the potential to be a great outlet for good music if they offer more stuff like Strombo and the Rich Terfry show. Hopefully they give George freedom to play some quality stuff. Sort of the anti Edge 102.

I'd love to see Radio 3 go terrestrial, but short of that I'd like to see them incorporate younger, edgier rock music to Radio 2. Strombo's a good start.

He will have more freedom on CBC than he had at Corus. This is fantastic!

Sunday night is always tough. Too many thing going on...may catch the last half-hour to hour before falling asleep

On The Hour last night, Strombo said something about 'the spirit of radio' and at first I thought that was going to be the name of his new show (I was falling asleep).

A classy man and a real talent. I wish him well.

It’s great that you “pat your own back” I only get envious when a guy can “blow they're own horn”
