Balloon Boy "Did This For A Show", Angered Kanye

baloonsI was busy yesterday afternoon and missed the entire Balloon Boy episode. You've heard it all by now. Six-year-old Falcon Heene from Fort Collins, Colorado was thought to be travelling in a home-made helium balloon resembling a UFO. There was a lot of media attention, a big search and little Falcon was eventually found hiding in a cardboard box in his parent's attic over the garage.

The parents have been revealed as possible media whores. They've been on a reality show, they chase storms and the dad submits content to CNN in which he claims there's life on mars. This has led many to suggest this whole episode was a hoax and a ploy to give Falcon's parents more TV time. The hoax believers, and I'm one of them, will often refer to when Falcon and his family were being interviewed by Wolf Blitzer on Larry King Live. He asked Falcon "Why did you not come out of the garage?" After his parents repeated the question, Falcon responded by saying "You guys said that, um [pause] we did this for the show".

I'm just sorry I missed this all in real-time when the memes were littering Twitter and the blogosphere. Hoax or not, the balloon boy gave us this:

And for that I'll forever be grateful.

Why would they want all this media attention? Are they trying to sell something?

I find it sad how thousands of dollars spent flying the two planes, all those people who took time out of their day and all the media coverage/attention was paid to 1 single, stupid boy when there are thousands if not millions of children around the world who are closer to death than he is. Yet not a single dime is spent saving their lives. What's so special about this particular boy? If he really did climb into the balloon after his dad said not to, then he deserved to be stuck there until the balloon came floating down.

This stinks. They obviously want to be the next Gosselin family - have their own reality show so that the father doesn't have to get a real job. What kind of parents make their kid lie, let alone lie on tv? No wonder the poor little guy vomited.

If it smells like a hoax, it usually is. Odd how there's actually YouTube video of the balloon taking off from the backyard...and "dad" looks oh so pissed. Dad Heene sounds like someone who never really grew up. Don't we all have 20ft wide Mylar balloons in our backyards???

Weird bunch in that house. I was watching the Today show and the whole family was being interviewed. Falcon puked and dad kept on with the interview.

Reality show will be coming for this tin foil hat brigade.

Is it just me or are people becoming more & more gullible to what they see on TV. Obviously, this "HELIUM" balloon did not have the boy in it from the very start & if anyone buys one of those helium balloons from fairs, do you actually think it could support the weight of a 80lb boy.

& what is with these so-called aviation experts?

HOAX, PUBLICITY, of course. Now be careful for what you wish for.

so it was as hoax--and yes, this answered my question of "are they trying to sell something?" --> a reality TV show idea that's what!
