Sporting Events I've Recorded to VHS

RewindOn September 11, I posted a picture of the Globe and Mail newspaper I've kept from September 12, 2001. Just as I'd keep newspapers following significant news events, I used to record significant sporting events to VHS.

Kids, in the days before PVRs and DVRs, we had these things called VCRs and we'd record television programs to VHS cassette tapes. That's right, the video images wrote to tape, actual tape. You'll have to take my word for it.

Only a few of these sporting events have survived to this day. I still have the following games stored away:

  • Toronto Raptors Inaugural Game
  • Wayne Gretzky's Final Game
  • Final Leafs Game at Maple Leaf Gardens
  • 1991 All-Star Game from SkyDome
  • Final Jays Game at Exhibition Stadium

Here's the photographic evidence.

That's cool... I have a pic that I framed of the crew from Hockey Night in Canada from that game... we took it at centre ice with the scoreboard behind us. It was a lot of fun working that game.

If you get a chance Mike, look at the opening and see if you can spot when the steadycam operator loses his footing and tumbles down to the ice!! Classic and couldn't have happened to a 'nicer' cameraman ;)

Where are the Jays World Series wins?

I used to tape music videos. I'd tape City Limits, MuchMusic, MuchWest, Friday Night Videos, Switchback, etc and shows whose names I don't even remember. I also have Live Aid and The Conspiracy of Hope tour. It's gold! Tapes are tough to store, but I could never give them up.
