Summer Movies

calendarI've been hearing buzz about this little art house film called "The Dark Knight". The reviews have been off the hook, as the kids would say, assuming the kids are still saying that. It's so hard to keep up. I still think gnarly is a cool word.

Ajax Mike wrote me a note after seeing "The Dark Knight". "Take the time. Make the effort. I seriously cannot articulate how good of a movie that was." Forget Ebert, that's one hell of an endorsement. It's so good, you can't even express how good it is. I'm sold!

So yes, I will see the new Batman movie in theatres just as soon as the stars align and I have an opportunity. On the other end of the spectrum, things aren't looking very good for another film I've been anticipating. "The X-Files: I Want to Believe" is getting weak reviews, so I'll likely be catching that one on TMN in about a years time.

It's a shame. I was really looking forward to it. Forget I Want To Believe, how about a little I Want This Movie To Be Good.

I can't believe how much hype is around this movie. I love the last Batman with Bale and I'm sure to love this one. But would this movie be doing this well without the Ledger Legacy?

I am not sure. Morbid? I guess not but apparently he is oscar worthy and if he is in the five for supporting actor he's the shoe in sympathy vote... even if he deserves it.

The buzz was happening before Ledger's death, though mostly behind the scenes. For once however, the hype is true. Ledger turns in a stellar performance, and everything else in the film rises to his level. Not just the other actors in the film, but even the technical stuff. Sound design, score, costume design (and I don't just mean the *costumes*), everything was done exceptionally well.

The only criticisms I have is that it does start to run a little long (not that I can think of anything to cut out), and Bale's growly Batman voice starts to sound a little off after awhile. It almost sounds like he's trying to do Clint Eastwood with a chest cold.

Saw it three times (July 15, 17, 18) and loved it (clearly).

The hype was already getting massive (see the forums on SuperHeroHype.com) and then the Ledger thing put it right over the top. He is amazing in the movie though, everyone is. Aaron Eckhart gets overlooked I think as he's pretty damn good as Harvey Dent.

Also, refer to BoxOfficeMojo.com for a listing of all the records it has broken, it should be at $300 million some point next week.

Got a babysitter and headed out to the movies!!!!

I loved it and all the acting was great, however, it was way too long for me...I think they could have trimmed a good chunk out of the first half and it would have been just perfect..

Worth seeing in the theatre with the big screen and cool sound!

So Mike - did you see the movie?

I'd give it a 9.5/10.
