Maple Leafs 1, Rangers 6
Writing these Leafs recaps is usually one of the first things I do the morning after a game. It's past noon and this is the first time I turned on the laptop. That was one ugly game and I don't even feel like recapping it.
It would be easy to blame this atrocity on Red Light Raycroft, but it's not that simple. There are two issues at hand. One is the craptacular effort from this team when Andrew Raycroft is between the pipes and the other is the overwhelming evidence this is simply a shite team in serious need of major surgery.
Why do the Leafs suck with Raycroft in net? Do they play with more passion for Toskala because they trust Tosky to make game-saving stops when necessary? Last night's game was dreadful. When the fifth Rangers goal was scored and Scott Clemmensen made his Leafs debut, I had to turn away. We deserve so much better, which leads to the obvious truth MLSE has to deal with at some point.
The Toronto Maple Leafs, my favourite team since I was old enough to follow the puck, stink. They aren't even good enough to finish in the top eight in the Eastern Conference. As addressed several times on this site (go to my Leafs category if you're sadistic), there's no hope for the future. The present sucks and the past hasn't been much to write home about in over 40 years, so what do we have? We have a mediocre team, a captain who should be traded, a GM without vision and a coach who is proudly underachieving. This team needs an enema.
