If You Could Only Own 20 Albums

cdThere are 1623 complete albums in my collection. That's a lot of music. Imagine if you had to start your collection from scratch but you were capped at twenty discs. Which twenty albums would make the cut?

It's a ridiculous question, because in reality there is no 20 CD maximum, but it's a question that really gets you questioning the value of each album in your collection. If I had to prune my collection to 20, here are the discs I'd own.

  1. Alice In Chains - Dirt
  2. Arcade Fire - Funeral
  3. Beastie Boys - Check Your Head
  4. Foo Fighters - The Colour and the Shape
  5. Green Day - Dookie
  6. Guns N' Roses - Greatest Hits
  7. The Lowest of the Low - Shakespeare My Butt
  8. Nirvana - Nirvana
  9. Pearl Jam - Rearviewmirror (Down Side)
  10. Pearl Jam - Rearviewmirror (Up Side)
  11. Public Enemy - It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back
  12. Radiohead - OK Computer
  13. Rage Against The Machine - Rage Against The Machine
  14. Soundgarden - A-Sides
  15. System of a Down - Toxicity
  16. The Tragically Hip - Yer Favourites (Disc 1)
  17. The Tragically Hip - Yer Favourites (Disc 2)
  18. Weezer - Blue Album
  19. The White Stripes - White Blood Cells
  20. Neil Young - Greatest Hits

That wasn't easy. At the last second I bailed on my Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden selections and went with their greatest hits packages. I figure the mix on Nirvana beats the collective that is Nevermind. I did, however, stick with Alice in Chains' Dirt instead of going with their greatest hits compilation. Tough decisions were made, now it's your turn.

Hey Mike,
There is one album that I have purchased over the years in a number of different formats; as a record, 8-track, cassette and CD....Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. Just a little tidbit of info for ya.

IF greatest hits are one CD it counts as one, if not the greatest hits packages count as two or more. Otherwise I would have included the Whole Police boxset as opposed to just their greatest hits CD...Same for the Cure Greatest Hits
