Shows I Watched: Family Ties

tvFamily Ties was a key part of the NBC Thursday night lineup, and can't miss television for a period in the 80s. It launched the career of Michael J. Fox but in our house the focus was on Meredith Baxter-Birney who many thought looked like my mom.

My favourite episode of all time was "My Name is Alex" which was a rather trippy two parter revolving around the death of Alex' friend. Here's the heavy conclusion of that episode, which actually holds up really well.

Here's the opening theme.

Great episode, great show. A few years back, my guitarist was in contact with Tina Yothers about the possibility of us playing some gigs with her band. Things fell through and I don't know what happened, but just the thought of playing on ths same stage with her band was surreal considering the fact I watched that show religiously when it was on.

I remember that episode (when he was in therapy) was shown without commercials.

Great episode. Thurdays were never the same when they took family ties off the air. However I hate the song "At this moment" because of this show. :O
