crossWhen losing your religion, they say you go through five stages: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. This final stage is the best!

Mike (Buffalo Boy)

Wow Mike, Thank goodness someone else has this opinion. I too since I was 12 and my parents gave me the choice to stop attending religious classes have struggled with it. Actually I dont struggle with it any more. I just dont believe in Organized religion. It is one of the few sticking points that separates my wife and I. I am sick of people telling me that I am a bad person for not believing in God or religion. Am I a bad person for not believing? I work in Health care, I coach swimming I am constantly concerned with helping others so I am a good person am I not? I dont need religion to tell me to abide by laws, and rules and to life a good life. I dont need a god to remind me of those things. And really isnt religion just glorified philosophy anyway? I mean if Aristotle had talked about an invisible being that taught us our morals and values he would have probably been hung. I think the Greeks have it right. Their Gods are mythological yet they all have a lesson to teach. Whats wrong with viewing Christianity that way? Why do Christians have to take it all so literally. I do not believe in this invisible being. I think that it may be a figurehead for the philosophy of Catholicism. But I can honestly say that even when I was young, God never helped me in any of my endeavors. Freewill, I made my own descisions. IF you think about it, religion is a way for people to externalize their behaviors. Oh it was God who showed me the way, or It was Gods will, No you did it so you have to live with it. I could talk about this subject forever so Ill end it with this. Religion is a FAITH based system. There is no fact in it. I read the entry about Creationism. Creationism has no proof or anything to back it up. Evolution at least has some documented proof from more than one source and data to back it up. It is evidence based with loads of examples through the fossil record to back it up. That is why here in the States we have been undergoing this thing where it seems to be more important what the faith of our politicians are vs. what they can do to run our country. What ever happened to the separation of church and state? I dont want our politicians making Faith based decisions I want them making informed data based decisions and the data shouldnt come from their religion.
