Duplicate Songs

music

When you've got 1275 discs ripped to MP3, you're going to have some duplicate songs.  iTunes makes it easy to isolate these dupes, so I can tell you that if I just played such songs I could could listen non-stop for eight days.  As a random example, I have The Tragically Hip's "Gus: The Polar Bear From Central Park" on In Between Evolution, Yer Favourites and the 92nd Grey Cup Commemorative CD.

You might be able to guess where I'm going with this.  What song is repeated the most often in my collection?  That song is "Black" by Pearl Jam which appears on 11 albums.  Upon further review, a number of Pearl Jam songs appear 8, 9 and 10 times due to the many official bootlegs they've released recently.  That's not really fair, is it?

If I disqualify live recordings, the song that appears on the most albums in my collection is "Respect" by Aretha Franklin.  It appears five times on the following discs.

  • The Soul Train 25th Anniversary Hall of Fame Box Set
  • Aretha Franklin's 30 Greatest Hits
  • Akeelah and the Bee Soundtrack
  • The Ultimate Soul Collection
  • Forrest Gump Soundtrack

I've also got a copy of the Otis Redding original.
