Make Your Own Kind of Music

musicTaryn and I have started watching season two of Lost on DVD. We enjoyed watching season one this way and now we're three episodes into the season you all watched last year.

The first couple of episodes featured a song sung by Mama Cass Eliot called "Make Your Own Kind of Music". That Desmond guy kept playing it on the turntable in that hatch. I wasn't familiar with the song but it reminded me of another tune. It reminded me of Eric Carmen's "Make Me Lose Control".

I hadn't thought about Eric Carmen's "Make Me Lose Control" in years but then I heard it during an episode of Dexter last month and the memories came flooding back. I'm almost certain the 45 single of this cheesy Carmen song was in our house. I don't think I bought it... I think maybe my brother Ryan did. I can see the 45 rpm record in my mind and I remember hearing it quite a bit in the late 80s. Ryan, chime in here and set me straight...

"Make Your Own Kind Of Music" must have inspired Carmen because both songs have this poppy catchiness that pounds the song into your cranium until you're forced to sing it aloud, even though you know you shouldn't.

I'm trying desperately to scrape out the remnants of Mama Cass to no avail. Meanwhile, here's Eric Carmen's "Make Me Lose Control".

Your memory has not failed you. Ryan owned that record and would later go on to form the Eric Carmen fan club.
